As part of the Global Underground series Dave Seaman took to the decks over the course of two days for Global Underground: Cape Town. Producing an energetic but far from frantic mix, Dave takes us through some of the best dance tracks of summer 2000. Building up between the two CDs and aided by his expert mixing, the set flows through seamlessly, giving you a feel for what it would have been like to have actually been there. But if you're looking for a standard mix of your favorites, you will be disappointed. From Moby's "Porcelain" to Muse's "Sunburn," Dave puts his own progressive slant across instantly recognizable trance, techno, and house and makes them very much his own. At first this is a seemingly confusing mix of chilled-out tunes with, at the same time, highly infectious rhythms. But as you relax into it, it is not long before you find your mind is helplessly caught up in the complex melodies and exhilarating waves that surge across each track, while at least one part of you is hypnotically thumping along to the beat. A word of warning--it may be a little while before you come to. --Amazon.co.ukAlbum Description

nice solid mix.......2004-02-05
One of the best mixes ever!!.......2001-06-16
Very Sweet Vibe.......2000-12-31
"More musical than mental...".......2000-12-27
Disc one begins rather cleverly with two short cuts, Sound 5's "...Hacienda..." and Rui Da Silva's "Earth." While the tracklisting gave me an idea of what to expect, those first two tracks set the tone's tempo down a notch while adding an element of character that seemed lacking from some of Seaman's other mixCDs. The mix than rises and falls through a series of pretty tracks (Ananda Project's "Cascades of Colour" being the standout here) before it's "Tyrantanic" crescendo. Here's where I heave a sigh though. We've seen that same Slacker remix of "Tyrantanic" to close disc one of S+D's "Communicate", and it's just kind of an awkward, stumbling beast of a song.
The tempo seems to pick up a little bit on disc two. Seaman drops a thought provoking sample as an intro over the first few swells of Quivver's remix of Pete Lazonby's class, "Sacred Cycles." Classic or not, the first three tracks are fairly uninteresting. They're ... trance. Then again, this is a trance mix. Anyway, the Planisphere track seems fairly generic and the Bedrock remix of "The Baguio Track" is just shameful (and awkwardly placed in the mix). The second disc launches after that however. Seaman drops in part of Bleachin's "Peakin'" as a bridge into the swelling "4am". Then from track 4 through 9, we have a very solidly mixed, very smoothly flowing series of tracks. ProTools mixed or not, they were definitely expertly picked, as they seem to rise into each other as a good mix should. Unfortunately, the last two tracks seem almost as though they were tacked on as an after thought. There's nothing interesting about the way they come out of their preceeding tracks or go into the next. While I think "Zerotonine" is a fun track and "No Way Out" is an excellent closer for the mix, there just isn't anything remarkable about how they're placed.
All in all, 3 stars. More musical than mental. I bought it on a friend's recommendation (and b/c I'm a GU junkie). So, if the tracklisting excites you or you're already a Dave Seaman fan -- go for it. If you're looking for something that does more for your mind, this isn't it.
Global Underground Does it Again.......2000-12-09
Dave Seaman's Cape Town CD is no different. It can be used for whatever you want. If you just want something to chill to and have a relaxing evening, just turn the volume down a tad and you can chill. If you want to dance, pump up the volume, and go to it. I enjoyed both CD's although the first one seems to have tickled my fancy more than the others.
If your looking for a CD to buy you never can go wrong with this label. Cape town is the exact same. If you like deep trance, its perfect for you. This is a must buy for a fan of the series, Dave Seaman, or trance in general.

Unmistakeably Dave Seaman...For The Most Part.......2007-04-03
Disc 1 is a little experimental for even Dave Seaman (who in my opinion is not as versatile as most of the other big name DJ's). I only wish he would have done this sort of thing more often in his career. The first seven tracks on disc 1 are very strong and mix exceptionally well together.
For the remainding tracks on disc 1 and most of disc 2 he settles down into usually genre of hard techno. There are a couple of nice progressive trance tracks interspersed throughout.
Overall I don't think this album has aged well.
Disc 1 4/5 stars and disc 2 gets 2.5/5 stars.
Cd 2.......2006-08-31
