5 out of 5 stars TRAP MUZIK, the cd that put him on the map.......2007-07-25

Everybody should know TI by now. He been in the rap game for a minute. He bought it with this cd. He had the street athem 24's, which was a straight single; but rubberband man is the song that blew his career up. He was also on bone crusher's neva scared which he dropped a fire verse. Other hot tracks on this cd include the title track, i can't quit, be easy; a song in which he addressing the haters, let's get away; a smooth track that have TI talking to the ladies, the afore metioned 24's, rubberband man. For every TI cd that came out he had at least one deep song on it. I still love you have TI talking to different people in his family split into 3 verses. Bezzle should have been a single. Probably one of the hottest tracks on this cd. Bun B and MJG delivered fire verses. The last 2 tracks on here were straight as well. Not saying TI went pop after this cd; but the next 3 TI cd's had a different vibe. With that said, cop this classic cd from one of the best southern artists out right now.

5 out of 5 stars T.I. P.I.M.P. He's the Man.......2007-07-11

Since his sophomore album was released in 2003, T.I. has officially blown up. His singles "U Don't Know Me," "What U Know", "Bring Em Out", and "Big Things Poppin" are all major hits. With the release of "T.I. Vs. T.I.P." this month, T.I. now has 5 albums under his belt (2001's I'm Serious, 2003's Trap Muzik, 2004's Urban Legend, 2006's King, and 2007's T.I. Vs. T.I.P.). Trap Muzik, to be honest, is an album I thoroughly enjoy. I bumped the clean version like crazy when it first dropped, and have recently obtained an explicit copy and can't stop playing it. It's like I'm discovering it all over again. And if you're sleeping on his earlier albums, especially this one, then you better wake up.

I can't find a weak track on here. The title song "Trap Muzik" featuring Mac Boney has T.I. spitting about what the industry really is: a trap. ("This ain't no album this ain't no game this a trap!") "I Can't Quit" has T.I. speaking about his haters and how sometimes he wants to give up but keeps doing his thing. "Be Easy" was released as a single and you can tell why. The beat which samples Al Wilson's Somebody to Love really complements T.I.'s flow well as he boasts lazily and tells you that you don't want no problems with him. "No More Talk" has always been a favorite of mine. San Holmes samples Gary Wright's Can't Find the Judge and Tip spits some nice lyrics:

"When they run it into a tower, they just say it's Saddam
Screaming Allah the moment that it's hitting the building
With total disregard for all men women and children
See ni**as get killed when people mix they money with feelings
I'm filling my money up in the wall some in the ceiling
I'm just one of the millions of ni**az who ?
It's a war going on and they killing for nothing
We were in denial all awhile they where flicking the buttons
I'd rather be dying for something instead of living for nothing."

"Doin My Job" has T.I. telling his neighbors that he's not trying to cause destruction when he hustles, he's just trying to make a living. Kanye West provides the perfect beat. "Let's Get Away", produces by Jazze Pha, was also released as a single. I'm feeling this track; it's very chilled out and T.I. knows how to spit game to the ladies. "24's" was the song that made me check Tip out. I loved the beat, I loved his flow, and I still love it to this day. It was the perfect choice for the first single. "Rubberband Man" blew up as well. Produced by David Banner, T.I. used the rubberband to represent his struggle, as he says so in the song. "Look What I Got" is a hot braggadacio song with a tight beat by DJ Tooomp. "I Still Luv You" is one of T.I.'s most personal songs, other than "I Still Ain't Forgave Myself". He raps to his girlfriend, his dad, and his little daughter:

"How could I look her in her eyes and holla dat aint mine
Her stomach gettin' bigger, and time is gettin' close
Six, seven, eight, nine months and I ain't told my folks
Not just messiah mama, hell, I had told your granny
Three kids in two years, baby, daddy had it
But I ain't ashamed of you, I'm more ashamed of me
It's not at all your fault, you'd be better off blamin' me
But now I realize, where the problem lies
Forgive me babygirl, I apologize"

"Let Me Tell You Something" is a more grown up ladies track, something I wish Tip would do a bit more. Again Kanye West laces the beat with a dope sample of "I Want To Be Your Man". T.I. produces his own track for "T.I. Vs. T.I.P.", a dope cut where his two alter egos go at each other. I liked the idea for this album, but in present day 2007 I think TI is just trying to capitalize off his two names. "Bezzle" features Eightball, MJG, and Bun B. Now when you have three southern legends and a legend in the making on one track, you know it's gonna be nothing short of spectacular. "Kingofdasouth" has some more of those bragging lyrics. He has reinforced this claim plenty of times since this album dropped, but he's never sounded hotter than he does here. "Be Better Than Me" is a cut where you can apply the "Do as I say, not as I do" line. Tip tells a youngster that he can make something out of himself without turning into a young hustler. "Long Live Da Game" kinda serves as an outro song.

T.I. created an album that is nothing short of fire with this one. From "Trap Muzik" to "Long Live Da Game", everything is hot. Also, T.I. rolled solo for the most part, only having 4 guests, where 3 are on one track. Tip gets a chance to shine and the results are phenomenal. Since this record, Tip went a little commercial with "Urban Legend" and so on, but he's never lost his swagger or his flow. To date, however, this remains his best album with fire production and on point lyrics. "I'm Serious" comes in at a close second. If you think T.I. is weak because of his latest offerings, I suggest you give Trap Muzik a spin.

2 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2007-07-09

When I buy a CD, I expected to like more then 3 or 4 songs out of 18. My expectations for this Cd were obviously way too high. This was a very disappointing CD because the beats weren't catchy enough to keep my attention.

4 out of 5 stars "Trap Muzik" - Better Than I Thought.......2007-06-26

Without a doubt, T.I. is one of my most favourite rappers in the game. And no, I'm not saying this because he's one of the biggest rappers of the moment - although I only found out about him sometime around 2004 when "Bring `Em Out" was released, the dude obviously has talent, as his Gold-selling sophomore album, "Trap Muzik", proves.

Surprisingly, there's a lot of substance to be found here, much of it driven by T.I.'s Southern-drawled, swagger-loaded delivery. Although much of the album is spent on venting out on inferior rappers, as on the hard-hitting Southern bounce of the Mac Boney-assisted title track, "King Of Da South" or "No More Talk", a Rock-inflected insight into life in the hood, there's still plenty of substance in the following - "Doin' My Job", a Kanye West-produced insight into T.I.'s childhood and life; "I Still Luv You", a (mostly) heartfelt ode to his family and/or lover; "T.I. vs. T.I.P.", an introspective self-conversation that's surpriisngly original; and the uplifting "Be Better Than Me", where T.I. speeds up his flow over Sanchez Holmes' wah wah guitar/organ-driven production, is one of the most immediately gripping songs on the album, even if the song and it's "be better than me" implication contradicts the braggadocious s***-talk and opponent rapper put-downs he shows across the record, such as on tracks like the DJ Toomp-produced banger "Be Easy."

The biggest surprise, though, is rapper/producer David Banner, who lays out a surprisingly heavy beat for T.I. to spit his game over - T.I.'s not really saying much, but the gloomy organ, double-speed hi-hats, bassline and chorus-bound kiddie choir make the listening experience more enjoyable. If only "Trap Muzik" was filler-free; in other words, the ladies joints bring this album down. "Lets Get Away" is the most obvious example - an anonymous female crooner and Jazze Pha lend their vocals to the smooth hook over the aforementioned dude's smooth blend of organ and wah wah guitar, but the track completely falls apart, largely because of the sleazy sexual innuendo that slides out of T.I.'s mouth (slightly more specifically, his come-ons include squirting semen in their faces, sticking "it" into ecstacy-affected chicks who are licking his face...you get the idea); and although "Let Me Tell You Something" is less crass, it simply lacks sincerity. Then of course there's the materialistic ode to cars ("24's") and actual materialism ("Look What I Got") that not even T.I. can get away with (unlike almost every other rapper, I can put up with T.I.'s materialistic references easier).

All in all, "Trap Muzik" is a solid debut with more substance than I expected, even if there are bits of filler to be found amongst the hard-hitting Southern music and smooth, "semi-Soul-ful" sounds that fill this album. 4 stars!

5 Best Tracks (IMO) (In No Order):
"Rubberband Man"
"Be Better Than Me"
"Trap Muzik" (feat. Bac Boney)
"I Still Luv You"
"Bezzle" (feat. Bun B & 8Ball & MJG)

4 out of 5 stars No sophomore jinx here!.......2006-11-15

Standout Tracks: I CANT QUIT, BE EASY, NO MORE TALK, DOIN MY JOB, LETS GET AWAY, 24s, RUBBERBAND MAN, LOOK WHAT I GOT, I STILL LOVE YOU and KING OF DA SOUTH. Filler: Let me tell you something(too sugary for anybody), T.I vs T.I.P.(boring filler), Bezzle(tight beat wack collabo), Be better than me(tries to be positive but fall flat on his face) and Trap Musik. Bottom Line: T.I second album is no sophomore jinx by a long shot. T.I flows get better with each song like No More Talk, Doin My Job, Look What I Got, 24s etc. Even though he has songs on here he should have 86'd with the quickness like Bezzle, Let me tell you some thing, T.I vs T.I.P. and Trap muzik this album still has enough hits to keep it within your arm's reach. Not bad for a southern rapper you werent thinking too much about when he first came out.

4 out of 5 stars Eleven years in the making?.......2007-07-22

Earlier this year, I read a press release saying that Wise Intelligent would be releasing an album and I did a double-take. Wise Intelligent was a rapper I loved in the 90s, and he inexplicably disappeared from the music in 1996. As a member of Poor Righteous Teachers, who put together four incredible albums during the first half of the nineties, and on his 1996 solo album Killin' U for Fun, the Trenton, New Jersey rapper established himself as one of hip hop's best talents; an excellent lyricst, socially relevant and conscious, and entertaining. Wise rapped with a purpose and conviction to rival Chuck D, and every verse and lyric had a purpose of social activism or relevance if not strictly for a party. PRT was also a really enticing group for the way they incorporated reggae into their brand of hip hop, and Wise especially did this by often using the flow of a dancehall toaster in his raps. Knowing all this, I was naturally very interested to see how "The Talented Timothy Taylor" would sound eleven years after his last release. This album comes out on Shaman Works Records, the same indie label who released CL Smooth's comeback last fall, and apparently this album is meant to be the first of a series.

Bringing home the cover showing a thugged-out Wise Intelligent and a scantily-clad lady, I had a few qualms, but the old addage about not judging a book by its cover holds true. After only a few listens, Wise had me sold once again. He sounds exactly like the same rapper I loved in Poor Righteous Teachers. The social activism here is awesome. He advocates for issues like the best did in the early 90s, but everything he raps about is totally relevant today. He raps about problems surrounding racism, drug wars, urban youth, and poverty. His verses are all very well-thought out, clever, and thought-provoking. My favorite tracks are a handful where he becomes personal, digging into his own life and offering some emotional insight on what he's been through. He frequently brings out the dancehall-toaster in him, which pleased me as well. I was extremely impressed with Wise Intelligent's performance on "The Talented Timothy Taylor," which was inspired throughout.

I also really liked the production. Wise could have gone a few routes with the music. I thought he could have sounded dated using his comfortable 90s-style production, or sound a little awkward over contemporary beats. The beats here are very current-sounding, but he sounds great over them. A few tracks bear the nostalgic soulful sound of a Kanye West production, complete with sped-up whiny vocal samples. There are a few bangers like he always brought out in his heyday, and some more subtle, understated ones too. The instrumentals are very nice. At 23 tracks, there are numerous skits, which tend to be vocal pieces of people going through struggles and despair, which Wise elaborates upon in the following songs.

The album opens with the beautiful piano solo and vocal sample of "Another Chance at Life," a perfect opener. Wise raps about his return, and also provides insight upon the breakup of PRT, the death of his sister, and his hopes for the future. The more upbeat "I'm Him" announces his comeback again, in a confident fashion. The only track I really didn't like was "Sensi Party." Wise's verses are okay, but the weak hook and beat fall flat for a club track. The nostalgic, soulful "Go With Me" has some nice verses, and the very Jamaican-influenced "Youth & Thugs" brings the conscious rap to the forefront, addressing problems for inner-city youths over some rough production. "A Genocide" elaborates similarly, talking about what young, poor black males face daily. I really like "Ganja Smugglin," a great first-person narrative about a high-profile drug trade involving a man and his girlfriend. I like how he just makes this entertaining, but also subliminally puts some consciousness there too, and the beat is nice, with a reggae-styled hook. "Police Can Do" is solid, and my favorite song is definitely "Passing Tha Time." The beat on this song is perfect, a pumped-up, horn-laden soul track with a gorgeous vocal sample. Wise Intelligent's raps are inspiring, he speaks lovingly to a lifetime friend from behind bars. The racially-fueled "Still Black" and heavily-conscious "Mama Cry" both bring the relevance that hip hop severely lacks right now, over nice beats nonetheless that might bring back memories of Black Business and New World Order. The rock guitar-laced "Summer in the JECTS" profiles a day in the housing projects. I like how he just provides simple commentary, giving pure facts and leaving the listener to think of solutions. One of the best highlights is the short "Barnes & Noble (+Lesson)," a very clever and funny track. "This Is Love" is a decent love track, it's a little slow and drags a bit. "Intelligent Wise" is fast, pure, and fun, and "Set U Free" is well-produced and well-written. The album closes with the thought-provoking "Cold World," which talks about current ills of society.

If you really love hip hop, this is the type of album I hope you'd support. We have here a legendary vet making an unlikely comeback that is not likely to move many copies, and he brings a great performance with unrivaled talent. But most importantly, he's making good music with a positive message. This type of social activism and relevant music is certainly lacking in hip hop right now, and this is refreshing for so many reasons. It feels really good to listen and rave about an album by Wise Intelligent once again. I highly recommend "The Talented Timothy Taylor." Old fans will love hearing his unique voice once again, and new listeners will find him easily accessible.

4 out of 5 stars Wisdom Still Intact {4 Stars}.......2007-07-19

Wise Intelligent is mostly known for being the front man for the Trenton, NJ group Poor Righteous Teachers. While that trio produced a string of classic releases, very few paid any attention to Wise when he went for self. On his third release, Wise drops knowledge again. What to expect is pretty much cut and dry if you've been a fan for a while and he doesn't disappoint. Joints like "Go With Me" and "I'm Him" are the standouts in my mind. There are also solid tracks like "G*nja Smugglin", "This Is Love", and "A Genocide" to be found throughout the album. My biggest fear was that he'd come across as washed up. A lot of my favorite rappers from the past are attempting comebacks and aren't doing so hot. Wise is the exception. He sounds as if he never took a break and he's still as sharp as ever, so there's no need to even worry about that.

There are a handful of tracks that fell under skip material for this listener. "Sensi Party" has a good theme, but it lacked a decent hook and somewhat uninteresting production. The same could be said about "Youths & Thugs". There aren't any wack tracks and the message that Wise has made a career out of spreading remains in tact. The problem for me is when some beats and rhymes don't mesh all that well. Otherwise, things are great. I'd have to say that out of 18 tracks (5 of the 23 are skits/interludes) at least 13 are worth checking out.

I can't speak for other listeners, but I was a little worried that Wise would trade in his razor sharp flow for something a more contemporary and up to date (a lot of my old favorites that are making comebacks have done just that). Fear not, the flow is still in tact. Despite come dangerously close to crossing the (even if only on one or two songs), he never actually crosses it. Whether you were a fan of Poor Righteous Teachers back in the 90's or even if this is your first time ever hearing him rhyme, I'm willing to bet that you'll end up loving this album. I recommend adding this album to your music library.

Perhaps this would have been better named Murda Muzak. With their fourth album, the third since their seminal The Infamous, Mobb Deep recycle themselves to the point of self-parody. How much slower and darker can your grooves get? How many rhymes about cash, crime, and hoes can you write? How many albums can Raekwon and Nas cameo on? There are moments that will shake you out of the soporific slumber: "Adrenaline" with its pounding drum track, and the slick, sliding bass line on "The Realest," featuring a cameo from Kool G Rap. However, during Mobb Deep's hiatus between Hell On Earth and Murda Muzik, artists like DMX, the Ruff Ryders, and Ja Rule filled the vacuum left by the Mobb's crime stories. To keep up, Havoc and Prodigy are going to have to get Deep(er) than the thugged-out "Quiet Storm" they present here. --Oliver Wang

5 out of 5 stars P holds the pen tightly........2007-06-04

This was one of like 10 cd's i had back in junior high. I probly got a hundred, maybe a hundred and fifty listens on this album and still throw it on. The beats would sound raw and innovative if they came out now and it came out in 99. Prodigy is a hella good story teller, sounding both tough and intelligent on every track. His vocals are layered and well delivered. You'll catch a new nuance to his rhyme pattern or pick up on a reference or metaphor you never noticed each time you hear it, and "Adrenaline" is probably the hypest song on the album and it does its thing quietly; make you damn near break your neck on that bassline.

5 out of 5 stars Mobb hits hard with Murda Muzik.......2007-02-04

The MOBB kills em with this LP. "Quiet Storm" and "Streets raised me" are just some of the hard hitters laced on the cd. INFAMOUS MOBB DEEP can't be touched. If you're an Infamous Mobb Deep fan, you know you must have this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Classic M O B B.......2006-11-16

After making three solid albums, Mobb Deep return with another bangin album Murda Musik. Hav and P's rhymes were fire, Havoc's production sounds as fresh as its ever been and every guest appearance was on fire. Standout Tracks: STREETS RAISED ME, WHATS YA POISON(everybody was on point even Cormega), SPREAD LOVE, IM GOING OUT(Lil Cease busts the best verse of his rap career on this one!), ALLUSTRIOUS, ADRENALINE, WHERE IM FROM(unexpected but great matchup with 8ball), QUIET STORM, WHERE YA HEART AT, THE REALEST(Kool G Rap shut it down disrespectfully!), U.S.A., ITS MINE(the best collabo out of all the collabos they did with Nas) and QUIET STORM(Lil Kim's verse on this song is still classic). Filler: Let a ho be a ho(Saturday Night Live boring) and Thug Musik. Bottom Line: Any Mobb Deep fan will not be dissapointed with this 4th album. Prodigy and Havoc put together their best album next to Hell On Earth. With songs like Whats ya poison, Spread love, Adrenaline, Where ya heart at, Where ya from and crazy matchups with 8ball, Lil Cease, Lil Kim, Cormega and Kool G Rap this album is bound to be one of those albums you will still reach for after years to come.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting compilation.......2007-06-11

This was noteworthy at one time for being the only way you could get most of the album "New York London Paris Munich" on CD. The differences make it an interesting collectable; it omits the updated disco medley of "Moderne Man/Satisfy Your Lust", and presents both songs in their original format, when both tracks were split into a 7" single. It is an odd choice, since both of the songs are recorded in a style that owes more to glam rock than disco, and they sound at odds with the rest of the tracks. This isn't an album proper, however. It also contains the original B-side to "Pop Muzik", "M Factor", and this particular compilation remains the best way to own that track (the eventual issue of "New York London Paris Munich" on CD contained a wealth of bonus material, but the bonus tracks are all linked together and contain little fragments of one another at their beginnings and ends).

I don't really understand why another reviewer complained about the sound quality of this disc, because I never noticed anything bad about it. Now that "New York London Paris Munich" has been released in a more deluxe package, you may want to pick that version up instead of this one. However, diehards will want that version of "M Factor" with the proper intro.

if you liked it then, you will love it now in digital - just turn up the bass.

4 out of 5 stars Eurodisco meets New Wave.......2007-04-13

I bought this cd due to the fact that my old 12 inch single version of Pop Muzik is still in the cabinet, yet I have not used a turntable in years. The songs are definately dated, but that is part of the allure. I will say some songs have fared better than others especially overseas, which is where I first heard two of the songs on this album. Overall if you enjoy late 70s Disco with New Wave mixed in, then this will be a good choice.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T GET ME WRONG THIS IS A GREAT RECORD.......2006-10-14

however THIS edition is on the "COLLECTABLES" line - well, as the other ones from this company I have purchased it sounds like they transferred the vinyl right to a CD burner in a living room.

This is a MONUMENTALLY great recording - Moonlight and Muzak / Woman Makes Man ! Genius. DO NOT BUY THIS ONE - there are other releases however I did not look further into the catalog on amazon when I purchased this 2nd rate rubbish - so I am returning and reordering.

The title track, and the song following it,are techno pop, even do wop.The song,Satisfy your Lust, was dirty. The lyrics for the other songs are clean, though.

This collaboration makes you grateful to have a 'track repeat' command on your cd player! Declaime is one of only a handful of individuals that will have you on the edge waiting to hear what will be said next. The combination of his unique voice and lyrical skills, along with Madlib's excellent (as always) production makes this a must for anyone claiming to be a hip hop supporter. Basically, I don't think that any of those 'Lootpack affiliates' can ever put out enough releases. I can't believe I'm the only one to write a review on this record that's been out for this long!! WAKE UP!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Messy Marv - Muzik Fo Tha Taliban .......2007-02-04

San Franscisco Rapper Messy Marv latest release is "Muzik Fo Tha Taliban" (2007). This album opens up "War" (Intro) a one minute track which consists of a war scene, guns blazing backed by Islamic singing. Messy Marv then try's his own Too Short impression on the weak "Come Here *****". "Wow" is a typical bling bling cut. One of the better track's on this release is "God's Vessel", first time I have heard of rapper E.S.L., I like this substantial track. 4-Tay follows up with a bouncy forgettable track in "Charger". Trigg Dot Dot drops "Dot Trigg", repping himself, while Husalah of the Mob Fingaz provides a grimy cut with "Reason Why". Messy Marv makes another appearance on the less then memorable "***** I'm Fresh". Keak Da Sneak puts his player on for the semi-decent "Night Rider", then Bay Veteran Yukmouth of the Luniz reps the "Westcoast" with the Realest and Lady Inc. Messy Marv & Mitchy Slick drop a thugged out cut with "The 2nd Letter". A-Wax contributes something different with the introspective "Everybody", rhyming and singing on a decent cut. "Poppin Bottles" & "Go Get" , "I Didn't Know" sound like the kind of material you would hear in a bad b-rated movie. Jacka of the Mob Fingaz and So official provide another street cut with "Dope Steam". The album's closer is "Taliban", Guce & Killa Keise rep being strapped up like a Taliban. This album really has nothing to do with the Taliban, if anything Messy Marv probably chose the title/album cover to get some attention. "Muzik Fo Tha Taliban" is a release die hard fan's of Bay Area may check out, to me this cd holds very little value outside a few decent tracks. 1.5.

Don't Sleep on this album! It's one of the best albums out now and T.I. is a very underrated rapper. He's got nice beats and he really represents the south in this album. 24's, No More Talk, I Still Luv You, Trap Muzik, Be Easy, and Doin My Job are my favorites, but the whole CD is tight. If you haven't bought this CD buy it now!
