Leave it to Rhino to create the best possible sampler.......2005-10-19

If you're new to the genre of space-age pop, I'd reccomend picking up three discs. "Space Age Bachelor Pad Music" by Esquivel, Rhino's "Exotica" Martin Denny comp, and this collection of some more obscure artists from the great Rhino records. The best of the more obscure Exotica is represented here, as these tracks are surreal, campy, and dated to the extreme. Its hard to find good exotica (as another reviewer put it) mainly because while some of it is great, the more sedate stuff is boring. Most of this stuff was made to exploit the new marvel of stereo sound, but even without that merit its entertaining. Some of the tunes here are bound to get stuck in your head for a week. It conjures up images of the future of tomorrow, where anything is possible as far as space travel goes. Music so incredibly dated and yet so incredibly fresh and unique at the same time, I fully reccomend this album. Please Rhino, get this back in print.

Too cool for words.......2005-02-10

This album consists of "Space-Age Bachelor Pad Music". It is all pop instrumentals recorded between 1956 and 1962. Generally, pop instrumentals recorded during this time period were kind of dull (see anything by Jackie Gleason). But for this CD, the wildest and swingingest tracks were selected (although there is nothing by Esquivel, the King of Space-Age Pop). Most of the tunes here have bizarre instrumentation and crazy stereo effects. Which, of course, is exactly what makes this CD fun to listen to. If you dig cool and strange music, I think you will enjoy this CD.

Fun, fun, fun. If you're just getting into "lounge" music, this is a great place to start. It is all instrumentals, just so you are aware. So, pour yourself into something fabulous and enjoy!

I have been a Sinatra/Martin/Basie, etc. fan for many years. Good cocktail music is my pride and joy. This CD was just a little too "out there" to enjoy. However, the art work of the album is a classic. Sorry!

Great CD1. Where did CD2 come from and why?.......2000-10-11

The first CD is great and typical of a MOS trance type CD. It features a great mix of all the great anthems found on many trance/ibiza style cds. The first CD flows well (although the first song doesn't belong) starting with bingo bango and then on and on with airwave and darude's sandstorm hi-gate's pitchin, etc.

But, then you put that second CD in and its almost something from out of the collection of your little sisters cds. I mean these two cds really should not have been sold together as a package. I am a true trance listener buying and religiously listening to all of the new trance music. When I saw that this CD had darude and higate and chicane, I immediately (as many of you probably will) thought that this is just another great CD to add to the collection. Buyer beware! Still love that first CD though so it wasn't a total waste. Good versions of the trance tunes and great mixing as well. Just not the second CD!!

These are the two best of the Italo Boot mix albums.......1999-02-06

Italo Boot #9 and #10 are two of the best Italo Boot titles (My favorites are #8 and #11). Released near the end of the Italo inspired high-energy disco craze, these songs are some of the best of the genre. They did not get much club play due to the shift to house music during this periodin time. Meet My Friend is catchy and makes you giggle when Den Harrow lets you know that his "friend" is named "Dick". Sexy Girl is no lie considering Sabrina is one of the hotest looking Italian divas around. Shooting Star by Roy is easily his best work. The only problem I have with this CD is that the song Weekend lasts a mere 36 seconds in the mix. Weekend is the best song from Atrium's excellent collection (I wish he had a greatest hits CD). All in all, the mixing is excellent as in all the Italo Boot Mix albums. The worst part is that the music comes to an end too quickly since we only hear a small part of each song. This CD is great if you want to hear a collection of good Italo disco. I purchased these albums to use as a guide for purchasing the singles that I liked.
