5 out of 5 stars This CD is Definitely "Strong Enough".......2005-10-11

Following on the heels of their highly successful self-titled debut album, Blackhawk comes back strong with "Strong Enough". Once again that great Blackhawk musical style shines through on "Big Guitar", which coincidentally contains some strong guitar, both acoustic and lead. The signature song from this cd is "I'm Not Strong Enough to Say no", a song about a man who "gets weak" whenever his favorite girl comes around.

Blackhawk has been described as a "man's band", but I think everyone will like their music. There is a good mix of guitar, drums, fiddles, and keyboards to satisfy almost every musical taste. Their music is upbeat and fun to listen to. If you like good country music, make sure to give "Strong Enough" a try.

3 out of 5 stars Respectable follow up.......2004-04-13

It sounds like these guys were popped back into the studio after their first album in 1994. The first five songs are good and the second half of the CD has weak tracks that don't display the best of their abilities and talents. Thank goodness I bought this for a dollar at the bargain rack of a used CD store or else I would have been disappointed to spend $10 or $12 bucks on this CD. The CD ain't bad, but it could be better. I suggest buying their self titled album or other following albums by Blackhawk because they are a great group after all.

3 out of 5 stars Big Blackhawk fan disapointed on this album............2003-03-05

Although Blackhawk is one of my all time fav bands, this second album from their box isn't "strong enough" against it's other albums. The first five tracks, like "Big Guitar", "Like Their Ain't No Yesterday" and "Almost A Memory Now" are great calibre.

The best, being the roots-rock heavyweight "I'm Not Strong Enough To SAy No" make a great Blackhawk formulated song. An excellent one. The rest, like "Hook, Line And Sinker" or others after it are all almost boring cardboard. The lyrics in these last tracks are weak, and (no joke) cliche. Not dreadful, just a half-effort in the last half.

Other than that, it is a strong starter that didn't finish with better material.

Better try the awesome "Love And Gravity", or their self titled debut.

5 out of 5 stars What the heck I'll give it 5 stars.......2000-06-02

I'm not the biggest of country fans but I love this CD. It's really good. I like to define Blackhawk as "A man's band". Just about every song is well-produced. My favorite is "Ain't No Yesterday". If you have the greatest hits and want to add to your collection I suggest picking up this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD.......2000-04-12

The music was great.A CD you can listen to over and over. They have a very distict sound. They are awsome

5 out of 5 stars One of Tanya's classic albums.......2004-02-09

From 1986 to 1992, Tanya recorded a string of classic albums that confirmed her status as one of the best country singers of her generation. Of course, Tanya recorded some great music at other times in her career but not as consistently. This album from 1988 is typical of her classic period.

The album yielded three top ten country hits - the title track, Highway robbery and Call on me. A fourth single, Daddy and home, made the country top thirty but didn't get the support of the record label, only being released at Tanya's insistence. I agree with Tanya's assessment of Daddy and home - it is an outstanding cover of the old Jimmie Rodgers classic. The title track is particularly interesting, as it was the first significant songwriting success for Beth Neilson Chapman, who has since become both prolific and successful as a songwriter and has also made some impact with her own recordings.

Apart from the hits, which are available on any number of compilations, You're not alone, As long as I'm dreaming, Lonesome town, Lonely at the right time, Playing for keeps and Back on my feet are all excellent songs, most of them being ballads.

This is an essential album for Tanya's fans but if you haven't got any of her music, it's a great place to start.

5 out of 5 stars For Joe Six pack.......2004-04-09

I really liked this CD.

Freedom of speech is a two-way street. If the Chicks say something like they did, not everybody has to like it.

4 out of 5 stars All-Around Good Album.......2003-10-20

I'd just like to put my two cents in and say that I thought this was a pretty good album. Reggie Young, who played with Waylon Jennings in the 1970s and 1980s, plays some great guitar on this CD, and if some of the lyrics are a little weak (I have to agree with the other reviewer who found "God Must Be A Woman" to be a bit theologically off-putting), the music more than makes up for it.

I'm not sure that I'd go so far as to call it one of the greatest albums of all time, but I like it. If you like good, solid country music with a little bit of rock mixed it, you may like it, too.

5 out of 5 stars GROWING UP.......2003-07-23

This cd is one of Travis' best. His vocals are exceptional and very mature with many songs praising women. As a 13 year fan of Travis Tritt, I have noticed his songs gain much more meaning as he experiences life in different ways. His first song on this cd is called You Can't Count Me Out Yet, I think it's more about his comeback to the music industry with a good upbeat sound. Then next song is Can't Tell Me Nothin', in which I believe is something that every person out there can identify with as being young and naive and knowing it all. The third song is Strong Enough To Be Your Man, a reply to the early 90's song by Sheryl Crowe. It's saying exactly what the title says! The fourth song would be my favorite, Country Ain't Country. It's saying what we all know is true, money has overcome everyone's lives as the race to make more has made people be dishonest, immoral, and in a hurry to get to the next day without stopping to breathe. Now to make the rest of it short and sweet, the other 8 songs are talking about mature true love of a spouse, old forgotten healing songs for the heart, telling irresponsible men to straighten up before they lose the love of their life, staying true to yourself, time to let your hair down and have a little fun, this cd has it all from Travis.

For the people that may not buy this cd over what a previous reviewer said about Travis against the Dixie Chicks, it is simply not true. What Travis did do is actually defend the right for an American Citizen to express their opinion. Travis has helped our Veterans for many years with numerous concerts etc.. And what I personally heard him say in the interviews were actually a way the Dixie Chicks could make amends ( in which case he was asked how they could) with the people that they did upset (for exp. U.S. Soldiers) and that was to give free concerts for our soldiers, etc.. At any given point there was not one thing that Travis said against the Dixie Chicks, and like the general American public, he believes that every American person has the right to their opinion. So for all of you that aren't familiar with Travis Tritt's music, I fully recommend this cd, along with his other cd's, for a delightful display of country music at it's best!

5 out of 5 stars Strong Enough.......2003-05-09

After Down the road I go I didn't think Travis could make a better CD, but this is it. Every song onthis cd is great. He has a song for everyone. Travis is like a good wine he keeps getting better with age. It don't get much better than this.

5 out of 5 stars True country.......2003-04-30

Travis is one of the most under rated guys in this business, he just keeps turning out great stuff and he never gets the recognition that he deserves. I like the change and the feel of this CD, it's quite different from some of his usual stuff but that shows his true talents. From strong enough to be your man which is a great love song to Country Ain't Country which is so fitting in the days we now live in. I'm sorry but some of the music that they are playing today isn't country to me, but i'm thankful for travis he has stayed country, he likes to rock somtimes and does well at that to,but he does'nt play the political game, maybe thats why he does'nt get the recognition that he deserves!!!!!!!!!!!, but thats okay as long as the fans like and continue to buy his CD'S and go to see his concerts thats all that natters.

5 out of 5 stars Classic And Simple Sheryl.......2004-11-20

I haven't listened to Sheryl Crow's music in a few months, and for someone like myself who cannot live without music, that is a very long time. I popped her debut album on about 30 minutes ago and was blown away by the excellence that exudes from Sheryl, her vocals, her slick lyrical themes and her cool-cat style! What can I say, the woman is a true female rock icon - not quite as brilliant as Alanis Morissette, but very high up there! That debut album, "Tuesday Night Music Club," propelled Ms Crow to international superstardom in the mid-1990's, spawning countless massive hits that fuse country, pop, rock and folk. One of these songs was "Strong Enough," and is one of the album's best songs in my opinion.

I'm very disappointed to see that Amazon don't have all the singles from this album (such as "Leaving Las Vegas," "All I Wanna Do" and "Run, Baby, Run"), because I would have definitely reviewed them. Instead all it has to offer is "Strong Enough" and "Can't Cry Anymore," the latter I feel being the better of the two. This song, however, is such a content and simplistic piece of light pop. The lyrics are gentle, calming and the beat is very soothing. I could chill out to this song anyday - preferably on the back porch overlooking fields in the middle of the countryside as the sun sets. I'm aware that sounds corny, but just picture yourself there and you'll find yourself in agreement...

Strong Enough opens with a gentle hum and the soft plucking of guitar strings. Sheryl opens with the first verse, "God I feel like Hell tonight. Tears of rage I cannot fight. I'd be the last to help you understand. Are you strong enough to be my man? My man." What Sheryl actually does here is blend the verse with the chorus, ever so simply and sweetly. She then continues, "Nothing's true and nothing's right. So let me be alone tonight. You can't change the way I am. Are you strong enough to be my man?" She then sings the bridge, "Lie to me. I promise I'll believe. Lie to me. But please don't leave." A short instrumental then kicks in before she then continues with, "I have a face I cannot show. I make the rules up as I go. It's try and love me if you can. Are you strong enough to be my man? My man." A soft interlude then follows where you can relax and really enjoy this song's relaxing effect as Sheryl and backing singers harmonize. Sheryl then continues with, "When I've shown you that I just don't care. When I'm throwing punches in the air. When I'm broken down and cannot stand. Will you be man enough to be my man? Lie to me. I promise I'll believe. Lie to me. But please don't leave."

The song then ends softly as it started, leaving you with a fine Sheryl classic. You don't even notice the song much when you just think of the songs on this album because it passes by almost unnoticed, not because it's a poor song, but more because it is soft, understated and subdued. In conclusion, a brilliant piece of soft, light rock-pop from one of rock's finest solo female artists.

3 out of 5 stars SHERYL CROW Strong Enough [Maxi Single] [CD-SINGLE].......1999-12-01

I really did not care for the live version of all I Wanna Do. Artists do not seem to know when they have a good song and they should leave it alone. I thought Strong Enough was a good song on this cd.

5 out of 5 stars This is one awsome song.......1999-07-21

I think this is one of Sheryl Crows best songs, I would love to have it on my web page if I could, it is a great song.

This happens everytime. The professional mixers extend the song too far! You loose everything that is so good about the song. Its all techno and the lyrics are ocasionally blurted. And I didn't care for this CD, nore do I care for most of the remix's that these producers make. Its a shame. But every now and then I enjoy listening to them. They're nice while I'm sitting at my desk and I'm paying no attention to the song at all. Its often nioce backround music. Even though its supposed to be blasted at some club. I would just blast the real thing!

this is a great emix maxi..:) the club 69 mixes,,,well..are bad..they sound bland, and not very original..somewhat similar to the overdone madonna 'nothing really matters' club 69 mixes..:P the gem on the single is the pumpin dolls' remixes...moe radio mix wouldve been great..the marc andrews remixis also a great club track..:) d-bop's mix is very fast and somewhat trance-y...pick this one up if you love the original!

3 out of 5 stars Too much in the mix.......2000-05-08

The sad fact it is that the original "Strong Enough" is one of my favorite Cher songs, but the remixes on this CD Maxi single carry far too much weight, stretching as far as over 10 minutes. The edits are good. The Pumpin' Dolls do the best mixes in my opinion. Just a little bit much for a song that is already a dance masterpiece. Remixes in general just loose too much of what made the song special most of the time.
