Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The smooth sounds of Cafe d'Afrique.......2007-07-24

If youre looking for a very relaxing, mellow and laid back sound Cafe d'Afrique is just the thing for you. The house style drum beat that is featured on a majority of the tracks keeps the entire album exciting, fresh and upbeat, while the melodic vocal melodies and synthy chords keep the feel of the album mellow and sophisticated. Its definite lounge material and would be a great addition to anyones party playlist. Its sound is very trendy and would serve as great background music for any social occasion. It is definitely a great representation of the New York City SOHO nightlife scene, while remaining accessible to the average listening situation as well. I highly recommend it.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars The Lounge BIBLE ! A phenomenal two-CD set !!!.......2005-07-07

This two-CD set is truly a masterpiece. It is a shame that this Supperclub series of compilations is not as well known as some others like Buddha Bar or Bare Essentials from the Naked Music label. This series is immensely better. I have a huge collection of laid-back house and Downtempo music, and I have to say this CD is in the TOP 5 I own. This set consists of two CD's. One is downtempo, chillout, Nu-Jazz and the second one is more midtempo, laid-back house music. The quality of the tracks here is very high. There are no weak tracks here. All the songs (yes ALL of them) in this set are at least 4 stars, but most of them are 5 stars.

It's classy, groovy, jazzy, funky, and sexy. If you like all of that, do yourself a favor and get this one.

5 out of 5 stars Probably the best so far.......2003-05-02

I own all 5 supperclub compilation CD's and must say that this is one of their best efforts to date. Simply put, it's always a two cd collection.(salle neige & rouge) Salle neige stands for the restaurant part of the actual supperclub. It's all about lying down, relaxing and enjoy great food and drink. So yup, the music is very very loungy indeed, lots of slow tracks with wonderful female vocals (sweet bird is a stunning track as well as sei tu). Salle rouge is the club part of the supperclub, which got build after they remodelled the actual place, its more uptempo, deep vocal house. (think naked music, OM as labels etc)

    Album Description

2007 reissue of this collection of rare music library recordings. Volume 2 sees Blow Up's founder and DJ Paul Tunkin entering the vaults of De Wolfe, Amphonic and again KPM. As with a bulk of Exclusive Blend 1, many of these tracks were receiving their first commercial airing on this album's release. The album also introduced James Clarke's Wild Elephants to the world, which was subsequently picked up by Gap and used on the 1999 'Khaki A Go-Go' worldwide campaign. As a thank-you from the writer it was re-titled 'Blow Up A-Go-Go' and became the title track for the successful V2 / Blow Up compilation 'Blow Up A-Go-Go! Dancefloor Classics from The Legendary Blow Up Club'. This album includes tracks from many great music library theme writers including Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw and Syd Dale, and includes the Alan Moorhouse Hammond heavy classic "Soul Skimmer" and the spaced out tribal funk of Nick Ingman's "Tripwire". Blow Up.

3 out of 5 stars Solid Collection of 70's Action Adventure Cop Dramas.......2006-05-25

Nice solid & professional collection of some of the best known British soundtrack composers. It's nowhere near as much fun as the EASY TEMPO or the BEAT AT CINECITTA collections - but it's a solid collection.

    4 out of 5 stars Sangrila.......2002-04-17

This cd takes you on a journey into oblivion! It will gently pick you up and catapult you through several layers of moodyness and leave you happy, content and free. I have been a suc... for Cafe Del Mar compilations for a long time and I would happyly say that they are the best but this comes if not just as good then a single inch from it! Same vibe and feel but still distict different in attitude and "feel"! So it is not just something adding to your chill out pile but it will expand your selection.
It can be played as exellent background conversation music, chill-out when arriving home from a night at the clubs or just getting you started on the saturday night voyage through club land! I would highly recommend this cd to everybody that has listened and smiled when gently beeing carressed by Cafe Del Mar or Lazy Dog cds!

5 out of 5 stars Pleasant and calm music.......2001-11-06

3 out of 5 stars Man, must all good things come to an end?.......2003-05-02

I guess I never really make myself popular writing up negative reviews but nothing is worse than spending money on bad music. The entire supperclub series have been a joy sofar. I think this is the weakest compilation though. Sure, CD1 has some great individual tracks (Royskopp's sparks, Thievery Corp's liberation front) & and I must say it's better mixed than the previous volumes but it also has absolute crab tracks on it (like Doris Days, Funky Lowlives etc.) The same goes for CD2. In the end, I find myself skipping tracks or fast forwarding stuff and that is just the opposite of what you should do when listening to lounge or good groovy vocal house. I guess the CD series are a great reflection of what is happening to the actual supperclub. It used to be such a great great place but it's lost it's edge and became just another tourist attraction in Amsterdam

Sigh! In any case, you are better of buying one of the previous volumes, I recommend volume 3.
