GH vs. original release.......2007-06-13

I bought this for my hubby who is a big fan of Expose. He prefers their original release as this doesn't have all of their songs from that first album. Otherwise he says it is an okay album.

Continuing in the long tradition of great American girl groups........2007-03-17

From the earliest days of the "Your Hit Parade" radio program in the mid 1930's American radio audiences have been treated to a succession of great girl groups. Starting with the Boswell Sisters in the 1930's and succeeded by such notable recording acts as the Andrews Sisters in the 40's and 50's and the Ronettes, Supremes and Shangri-La's in the 1960's the girl group sound always proved to be an extremely popular genre. Oddly enough, girl groups largely disappeared from the airwaves during the 1970's and it was not until 1984 when the British group Bananarama burst onto the scene with the classic hit "Cruel Summer" did interest in the girl group sound begin to re-emerge. Shortly thereafter a pair of promising American girl groups found their way onto the Billboard charts. The Bangles would appear first with the great single "Manic Monday" in early 1986. Just about a year later in February 1987 three talented young ladies from Miami released their debut single "Come Go With Me". Over the next six years Expose would amass a total of 10 Top 40 hits. "Expose: Greatest Hits" features most of these tunes along with some cuts from their albums and a pair of Remixes that were wildly popular on the nation's dance floors during those years.
"Seasons Change" would prove to be Expose's biggest hit. Released in the fall of 1987 it would spend one week at the top of the Billboard charts. All in all, Expose would rack up a total of 8 Top Ten hits including "Tell Me Why", "Let Me Be The One", "Point of No Return" and 1989's "What You Don't Know". All are included in this collection. I also enjoyed "When I Looked At Him" as well as the group's take on the old Skeeter Davis tune "The End of The World". Of all of the tunes that Expose released my favorite hands down has to be "I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me". Released in 1993 this would prove to be Expose's last big hit. Too bad because my ears tell me that the group had really matured and come of age and was probably destined for much bigger and better things. But alas, this simply never happened. History seems to suggest that with the exception of the Andrews Sisters girl groups only have a shelf life of 5 or 6 years.
I have owned "Expose: Greatest Hits" for several years now and I don't believe I have ever played it from end to end until now. But I have gained a new respect for the vocal prowess of this extremely talented group. Some of the tracks on this disc I really didn't enjoy all that much. The remixes of tunes like "I Specialize In Love" and "Come Go With Me" may sound great on the dance floor but do nothing for me listening at home or in my car. Perhaps my age is showing here. In any event I found Expose to be a worthy successor to the long line of great American girl groups. See if you agree! Recommended.

Another great 80's group.......2006-08-10

This is yet another great 80's girl group. They kept making hits left and right for quite awhile. When you think of the 80's cool dance music, you can't help but think of Expose. They also had some awesome love songs as well.

I think my favorite songs by Expose are "Come Go With Me" and "Point Of No Return". Another good song, from later in their career, is "In Walked Love". This CD is a great collection of some of their best hits. Another must for the 80's music collector.

This is delicious bubble-gum dance music from one of Miami's biggest male artists. This CD is titled "The BEST of Stevie B" for a reason........2006-11-08

In my opinion, this is the only compilation of Stevie B you need if you want a nice high of freestyle flashback. This CD contains many hits everyone has heard and loved and has been captivated by. Such tracks as "Spring Love", "Girl Iam Searching For You", "I Want To Be The One", "In My Eyes"' and "Dreaming Of Love" are perfect examples of these. I enjoy every last bit of Stevie B's work, however this is the only album that replay time after time. If you like other artists such as TKA, Johnny O, and Timmy T; this is a must have for your music collection. Don't hesitate to pick this one up. If you can't decide which Stevie B album to get first, GET THIS ONE! You will not regret it!

I was a little girl when I rode in my brother's car driving down the road and jamming to this awesome beat!! Even though that was over 20 years ago...nothing has come close to the New Wave generation. I work at a bar and everytime I request any of Stevie B's song...the entire house come undone. The beat will definitely get the party started...no matter what age group :)

THIS IS A GREAT CD. ITS FULL OF FREESTYLE HITS FROM THE LATE 80S AND EARLY 90S. MOST OF THE SONGS ON THIS CD DONT EVEN GET PLAYED ON THE RADIO ANYMORE. IF YOU WORK OUT THIS IS THE CD FOR YOU. I HAVE A COUPLE FAVORITES ON THIS CD- "TWO TO MAKE IT RIGHT" AND "SPING LOVE". 2 SONGS I GREW UP LISTENING TO. I WOULD SPEND MY LAST $20 ON THIS CD AND I THINK YOU SHOULD TOO.

This CD has many great popular Freestyle songs .There is no reason to not get it.
Although I recomend the two disk version, this CD is also very good but not as long. I would give the 2 disk set a 5 star rating.
The one disk will make you feel cheated compared to the 2 disk set.
Any freak would beg for the full pallette of songs.
This one disk version omits the biggest Freestyle star .
Ms.Judy Torres is not on the CD.
Judy has been feeding us Freaks the beat for our feet for a long time and still does.
Where would Freestyle be without her and all her sexy vocal Latinaness.
Her missing may hurt sales.Whoever caused that made a big mistake.
It gives me many hours of dance pleasure a week.
I wish that a volume 2 and more of ths CD becomes available.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to all the Freestyle singers who provide this pleasure to us Freaks.

First off, i was very proud to learn that The Cover Girls were Latina. Back in the 80's it wasn't too widely known when a performer was Latino. It was thought to be a better way of "marketing"...ok so this CD is Full of the Rhythum of freestyle..."Latino Old School"...this is our music!!!These girls are not only sexy but they're have shown to be very talented with ability to go from the dancefloor to the heart. They can serve up heaters for the freestyle dancefloor like "because of you", "inside, outside", "my heart skips a beat", and their signature song "Show Me"..."We can't go wrong" is beautiful. I also love the slow tune "Thank You"... One BIG dissapointment is that in order to get the original SLOW version of "Wishing on a star", you have to buy another CD...i love the slow version...also, track 11 is the weakest on this CD...a remake of Tina Marie's "I need you're lovin'...sorry but Tina is in a class hard to Get into...looking past this the only other thing is not to expect this CD to be 12" versions...they're all album versions, so DJ's who have graduated to CD's from VINYL...U'll have to go elsewhere for extended play versions but never the less these ladies are talented...they could easily tour with the other girl groups form the generation that was and is a STRONG voice from and for the Latino community...Music has NO COLOR but when u see you're own performing, u can't help but to be proud!!!...thank u girls

The Second Greatest Group Of Free-style!.......2007-02-13

In the late 80's, free-style ruled the dancefloors especially in places like Miami and New York and "The Cover Girls" were one of the movements biggest stars. Even though MTV did not embrace them, nor give them exposure, they managed five top 40 hits between 87-92 and several other minor hits and club favorites.

The songs that truly capture the free-style movement are "Show Me", "Inside Outside", and "Because of You" which are three of their most enduring songs. However, it was their two big ballads that became their biggest hits and those are "We Can't Go Wrong" and "Wishing On a Star."

So why 4 stars? Thsi collection is missing two of their chart hits..."Spring Love" and "All That Glitters Isn't Gold." Although a nice, disposable pop group, these girls were slightly overshadowed by the more successful and slightly more mainstream "Expose" and were effected by an ever changing line-up..which seems to be a common problem among girl groups since Expose had the same problem in the early 90's...as did 2day's modern equivilent "Destiny's Child." Anyways, recommended for fans of freestyle, and dance music in general.

I was so happy to find this "Greatest Hits" CD! The Cover Girls were one of my favorite groups of the 80's. They had it all...awesome dance music, great lyrics, and talented ladies.

Listening to their music brings back great memories of my high school days too. "We Can't Go Wrong" is an awesome love song, and "Because of You" is one of my favorite Cover Girls songs.

This is a must for any 80's music collectors!

Last month I went to drop my car at my mechanics and my radio was playing the Cover Girls-Greatest Hits. My mechanic said, "LADY YOU GOT CLASS!!! WHERE DID YOU GET THAT CD? MY WIFE ONLY LISTENS TO BRITNEY SPEARS". I love that CD so much! It takes me back when I was a teenager at New York going to Hearthrob's, The Tunnel, Emerald City, and the Paladium. Boy!Those were the great days! I also have the collection of the FREESTYLE-Megamix. Worth buying when you are a true freestyle freak, lol.

I am such a freestyle freak! Growing up in NYC, it was just what you listened to. The music just brings you back to the club scene from the late 80's & early 90's. I loved the song selection on the CD, BUT>> the transition in between songs was a bit overwelming. That would be the only reason why I wouldn't put it on at a party. The songs in itself are so much fun and exciting to listen to. There is no need for all the remixing & scratching before each song, because it takes away from the CD and the music which is what it's all about. Thats my only down note about it because the CD is great!!! I have the entire collection. The music took me back to when I was a teenager hanging out at the clubs in NYC & (the boogie down Bronx) with my friends. I think it's so cool that my kids know now what Mommy's music sounds like from the 80's!Thank you :)

Bad Boy Joe does an excellent job mixing the songs to flow together from one track to the next and picks the key parts of every song to actually replay as beats. All the songs are common and can be heard on ktu or any station playing freestyle. My only complaint is that I wouldn't consider these the 2nd best set of songs ever in freestyle.The songs are good, but some I think could have been saved for later volumes, but that is an issue in preference I guess. I would def recommend this for any serious freestlye fan b/c it puts good songs all in one place that are just keep flowing when played.

With Let The Music Play: The Best of Shannon, this legendary dance floor diva's biggest hits—from her '80s heyday and her successful '90s comeback—are finally available on a single disc. This album is a boon to collectors, since much of her material as been out of print for years, and completely unavailable in the CD era.

In 1983, the then unknown singer sang on a dance track produced by neophytes Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa. Within a few weeks, the 12-inch of "Let The Music Play" was being spun by every DJ in New York City. Shannon followed this success up with a string of chart-topping dance singles, but soon left the music business for a successful stage-acting career. In 1995, she returned to music with the European-only single "It's Got To Be Love" and appearances on singles by Afrika Bambaataa and Sash!, the latter of which made the U.K. Top Ten in 1998.

truth be told... Shannon was actually one of the top dance divas of the mid-1980's, she had hit after hit in the clubs, but after the dismal failure of her third album, "Love Goes All The Way", she quit music for a long while.

This set compiles all of her classic mid-1980's r&b singles, as well as a few latter-recordings. Making it the best Shannon collection on the market.

However, let's go to the negative points.
- As the cd clocks in at 68 minutes, there's still room... but yet ShoutFactory has included the severely edited version of Let The Music Play here, which cuts off an entire minute from the 45/single version. LTMP is Shannon's all time classic hit, the song everyone knows and loves by her... what is there to lose by adding that one extra minute to make the song the classic we love and remember it as? All of the other songs are complete.
- "Do Tha Wrong Thang". I don't know why this was included on here. It's an awful over-long track that has a few vocals by Shannon but is mostly a few rappers. The song has no tune or melody in the slightest and drags on and on and on....
- Outside of "Move Mania" (which was a UK top 10 hit), Shannon's more recent material has been very bland and formulaic. I would've loved some more album cuts from the first two classic albums over the forgettable La Bouche knockoff "It's Got To Be Love" and the in-one-ear, out-the-other dullness of "The Best Is Yet To Come"

However, since reissues of Let The Music Play and Do You Wanna Get Away are pretty much out of the question, this set is the most affordable and convienient way to get Shannon's classics on CD, even though "Move Mania" is the only post-1986 track worth a second listen here.

A trip down memory lane.......2005-10-12

A great compilation of Shannon's. The only thing that would have made this complete would have been the addition of the song "Dancin". All in all, a disc worthy of purchase. I enjoyed it alot.

Why include a severly truncated version of her biggest hit??.......2005-06-09

Shannon's biggest hit, the one enduring song in her catalogue, is "Let The Music Play," one of the 1980s' most immortal dance songs. Finally, a greatest hits is issued and one can have these songs on CD...but the version of "Let The Music Play" included her is a severely edited version, not even the single version, which I used to have on a 45!! What on earth was the logic behind that? And yet we get the full length versions of her non-hits. What a bummer. Also missing is "It's Over Love," her late 1990s collaboration with Todd Terry which was a NUMBER ONE HIT on the dance charts. What were the people who put this together smoking????

Shannon was one of my favorite artist from the 80s. Her strong vocal combined with the genius of Chris Barbosa and Mark Liggett production team made the Let the Music Play album timeless.

And just out of the blues, I found out that Shout Factory was releasing a best of album and I was excited. Well I bought the CD and I was bitterly disappointed. The sound quality is good but not excellent. They could have at least remastered it.

And also there was a MAJOR blunder. How did this album pass Quality Inspection?? One of my favorite energized songs "One Man" is not transfered correctly. There's an annoying noise flickering at 2.11 min

I never knew who she was in da 80's, all I knew was that, I loved her song "Let the music play" and I loved her voice. Well its safe to say that I will be buying all of her work. A+++

Don't buy this CD with the intent of getting the original songs.... the DJ chose to perform some of his own "freestyle" scratching inside every song.... you're not getting what you remember from the radio when this material was new. Pass on this CD with a quickness!

GOOD START...........2005-05-27

This CD definitely has a lot of good freestyle songs. However, a lot of these songs should not be on volume 1. They were decent hits but not some of the super hits you expect on a first volume compilation like this. The mixing is excellent and everything flows like you would expect from Bad Boy Joe. Being 4 other voulmes are out it doesn't pay for me to say the other songs I would have rather heard on here, but if you are only buying this cd because it is the first volume then that would be a mistake, you need at least volumes 2 and three to get A LOT of hits.

VOLUME 5 AND THE BEATS DON'T STOP.......2004-10-03

This cd only proves how strong freestyle is. This is the fifth volume and the songs are still excellent. There are no fillers on this album. Every song on disc 1 was a genuine hit. TKA and George Lamond rule this cd of course with songs of theirs that might be the best of each ever. The mixes are well done, everything flows like usual. I especially like "Arabian Nights". I can't find that anywhere and it is finally here. All and all this is the 5th perfect cd out there (after Bad Boy Joe's first 4 freestyle albums).

I cannot believe it...but Bad Boy Joe's Freestyle Megamix Vol.5 is definitely my absolutely favorite in this entire series! It's packed with incredible hits from some of the hottest freestyle legends like Lisa Lisa, The Latin Rascals, Sweet Sensation, George LaMond, TKA and one of my most loved..and hard-to-find club hits..."Dancing On The Fire" by India.

This Album has most of his hits, but they left out a few really good tracks. Thump Records must have not done their homework! Why didn't they put the songs; "Runaway Love", "I Know That You Love Me", "I Wanna Make Love To You", and maybe "Don't Go Away" on the album? They even messed up tracks 11 & 12, by printing track 11 as a "Highways of Love" remix when it's actually a remix of "I Gave My Heart to You" and also printing track 12 as The Music's Got me when its a remix of "Memories". Sloppy work Guys!! Johnny O deserves better! I wish I could of compiled this album and then maybe fans could experience all of his Hits with higher quality!!

This CD is bascially the same as the "Like a Stranger" album, with a few songs from his first album thrown in. So if you missed it the first time around then definetly pick this up. The two best songs are "I gave my heart to you" and "Don't give up on love" which both feature the beautiful of voice of Jimi Tunnell.
