5 out of 5 stars Enjoy Yourself: Listen.......2007-06-22

When I was little, I remember hearing about Guy Lombardo but like every kid I was half listening. Growing up, I still heard my parents talk about his hits and I remember family song fests where some of these songs were sung..although probably not well (smile). Now as I have developed an appreciation for the music from that era (because I was doing some research on the music of that time period); I discovered why the adults of the Lombardo decades were so enthusiastic about his sound. The lyrics are fun and the songs make you think that nobody on their death bed ever worries that they hadn't spent enough time at the office. Folks like ourselves who are working non-stop could take a page from the Lombardo book because it truly is later than we think. So enjoy yourself and give this album a listen. It will be like taking a walk down the memory lane of your parents or grandparents who enjoyed these songs so much.

5 out of 5 stars And the band played on and on and on for 50 years !!!!.......2004-06-04

Hailing from London, Ontario, Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians would have their first hit record in the fall of 1927. Incredibly, there would be 217 more charted hits over the next 27 years!!! The band would continue with live performances until 1977. What accounted for the enduring popularity of this outfit? After all, most of the critics dismissed Guy Lombardo's music as "trite and predictable" and dubbed him "The King of Corn". And many big band afficianados never really took him seriously either. But the record buying public loved him!! In fact, it has been estimated that over 100,000,000 Lombardo recordings have been sold!!!
Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians recorded for 4 different record labels over the years. This collection features 16 of his biggest hits on Decca between 1934 and 1954. These original recordings having been lovingly remastered for your enjoyment. There are 7 #1 hits here including ""Penny Serenade", "What's The Reason (I'm Not Pleasin' You), "Red Sails In The Sunset" and one of my all-time favorites "The Band Played On". The package also includes a nicely done 12 page booklet.
Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians were one of the most successful recording acts of the last millenium. This music should be included in any serious collection of 20th century American popular music. And while there are several discs currently available I feel that this is the best of the bunch. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Fine Music.......2001-12-14

Though most of Guy Lombardo's top chart hits not included here, you may really ENJOY YOURSELF when you listen it. "Enjoy Yourself" is amazing, and "Red Sails In the Sunset" is beautiful. Moreover, Guy's version of "Harbor Light" may give you a different experience with Platter's version.

5 out of 5 stars A song for the 90's if ever there was one.......1999-05-14

Don't know much about the other songs on the cd, but this remastered version of Enjoy Yourself (It's later than you think) is too funny. It's got great horns, a cha cha/latino sound and lyrics that will make you laugh out loud. If ever there was a warning song for fast paced career driven 90's people--this is it.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Good music, bad presentation.......2005-11-04

I bought this boxset last month and I got disappointed because the booklet print is really awful, also the CD print is in bad quality. The cases were broken from the outside and it's a shame because these are excellent records. If you are a collectionist then don't buy this boxset because it's really bad.

Kylie/Enjoy Yourself includes the two 'original' albums from Kylie Minogue.

5 out of 5 stars First two albums.......2005-05-09

In 1980's Britain, the most successful pop record producers were the team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Many of their singers faded from popularity as quickly as they emerged, leaving a legacy of doubtful importance. A few did rise above the rest, including Bananarama, a lovely trio, but the star that shone the brightest was Kylie.

The two albums in this set were Kylie's first two albums. They include all her early hits except Especially for you - a stunning duet with Jason Donovan, originally released on one of his albums, but also available on Kylie hit compilations.

Nobody who was around in Britain in the late eighties will ever forget the chorus line of her first hit (one of several British number one records) - I should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky - it's the kind of song you either love or hate. Many hate it, and I sometimes feel I ought to - but no, I love it. There was always something about Kylie, even then, that set her apart as something special.

The two albums in this set were produced entirely by Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who wrote all the songs except for Locomotion (the Little Eva sixties classic) and Tears on my pillow (the Little Anthony fifties classic). These two covers helped to convince me that Kylie should be taken seriously - they are both brilliant. Indeed, Locomotion provided Kylie with her only huge American hit during this period. As to Tears on my pillow, I've heard several versions. Kylie should be proud of her cover, which gave her another huge hit. Je ne sais pas porqoui (an English language song despite it's chorus line), Got to be certain, Hand on your heart and Wouldn't change a thing were among the other hits from these albums.

While many will continue to dismiss Kylie (especially these early albums), she is much better than many of the singers she is sometimes compared to, and has proved it by lasting longer than any of her critics thought possible.

To The Good Times is the self produced second release by the Heather Combs Band. Featuring the writing and playing of core members Heather Combs and Michael Godwin, this record contains many of the HCB crowd favorites from the last few years. The textures, arrangements, and songs on To The Good Times are much more ambitious than first release Guilty, and are a testament to the teams continuing growth musically and creatively.

5 out of 5 stars The most amazing band in the Bay Area!.......2003-06-18

Heather Combs will be a star. Get it now, and you will be glad you did. She will bring out emotions in you that you never knew you had.

          5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2002-01-25

Just received "To the Good Times" in the mail today and have listened to it twice since I ripped it open. Heather Combs has incredible talent . . . not only does she sing all the main vocals, but she also plays 6 or 7 different instruments on the album and co-wrote all the songs. Amazing! Her music is so deep and soulful -- it touches you way down in places you'd forgotten were there -- and she sings with such passion. Her sound and her music have matured beautifully since the "Guilty" album (I'm on my second copy -- wore out the first one!). This is a "must have" album. I'm eagerly awaiting an east coast tour, Heather!

          5 out of 5 stars sassy-pants says:.......2001-12-18

In this time of boy bands and flat-bellied, teen goddesses singing in three octave ranges without an ounce of passion or a sense that they've even lived what they're singing - Ms. Combs sticks out like an orange, nut-covered cheese log on your aunt mae's holiday buffet table. Untouched and totally different(hey, cut me slack here, it's the holidays). For the working stiff, who wants to hear something sweet from the planet earth they reside on: the Heather Combs Band may be a new refuge.

After listening to this album, you know Ms. Combs means what she writes and displays the type of intelligence and ackowledgement of life's bumpy but beautiful course explored by other great storytellers who don't pretend life is perfect but explore the range between the good and bad times and revel in the rush and emotion of each and appreciate it for what is - a snap shot of life at a specific point. Lucinda Williams, Melissa Ferrick, Bonnie Riatt, Joni Mitchell and other female rockers come to mind. And like these other great dames - she plays rocks like it should be, unafraid if the force scares some folks away.

Combs voice resonates and drives the mood of each song with tight and polished mixing to steer her along. These two songwriters (Combs & Godwin) click and there ain't no mistaking - they feel and experience what they write about. The songs range from bouncy - almost popping with exhuberance ("Perfectly"...one of my favorite lines: "it's the way you breathe in confidence"), to solitary explorations of finding a place of acceptance("Horns and Halos" and "Treehouse"), to the type of bluesy, hill-billy rock that make me want to start a bar room brawl or at least a serious boot stomping hoe-down ("Last One Standing" and "On My Way To Witchita"). The addition of the Moog to "The Last Go Around" makes me want to crush a couple of Heather's ribs, in a loving embrace, for even knowing what the Moog is and the texture it adds. The CD is worth the price of admission. And you know by the last song, that this woman, and her band, have taken you on a genuine ride. Find a little piece of yourself dancing, hiding or crying in this CD. Or better yet, catch them live. You won't be disappointed- just be sure to wear a seatblet and lay off the sauce.

5 out of 5 stars Heather Kicks (...)!.......2001-12-14

I saw Heather in concern last summer and immediately bought a copy of To The Good Times. It's been in my CD player more than any other CD this past year - it's happy and funky and gets me dancing every time. I love her mixture of rock and blues with a little country thrown in. She's one of the best female artists of this decade and I know she's going straight to the top! I highly recommend this CD and can't wait for the next one!

          5 out of 5 stars Definitely awesome!.......2001-11-11

          Tired of the standard pop-mush?

Then listen to Heather rock! This CD is so smooth and powerful!! I see her live every time she's in Reno. This CD is full of heart and great, wonderful musicianship. The last song (The Mess That We've Made) is such an awesome soulful ballad that I almost cry almost very time I hear it! It's beautifully blue!!

Heather is a great fresh, breath of air in the rock world.

          This girl's got soul!!!

5 out of 5 stars Simply the Best.......2006-06-10

To me this is Kylie's best CD out of the lot. While I love every CD she has ever produced this would be the one I couldn't live without. Songs like "Nothing To Lose" & "I'm Over Dreaming Over You", although never making it to the charts, are superb examples of Kylie unique 80's sound and showcase her talent. Every track is very catchy as well so if you dont have this CD in your collection and you are a n 80's or Kylie fan then I would suggest purchasing it now!!! I am glad to see it has been re-released as it had been discontinued before Kylie's rise to fame again.

5 out of 5 stars Second album maintains style of debut.......2005-04-28

In 1980's Britain, the most successful pop record producers were the team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Many of their singers faded from popularity as quickly as they emerged, leaving a legacy of doubtful importance. A few did rise above the rest but the star that shone the brightest was Kylie.

This album was produced entirely by Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who wrote all the songs except for Tears on my pillow (the Little Anthony fifties classic). This cover helped to convince me that Kylie should be taken seriously - it is brilliant. I've heard several versions including Reba McEntire's. Kylie should be proud of her cover, which went all the way to number one in Britain, even though I slightly prefer Reba's. Hand on your heart (number one), Wouldn't change a thing (number two) and Never too late (number four) were the other UK hits from this album.

While many will continue to dismiss Kylie (especially these early albums), she is much better than many of the singers she is sometimes compared to, and has proved it by lasting longer than any of her critics thought possible.

Note that this CD is also available via the boxed set - Kylie Minogue x3. It's only three individual CD's wrapped in a cardboard slipcase but it's much cheaper than buying the three separately.

          5 out of 5 stars Kylie's second album .......2005-03-25

This was Kylie's second album, the follow-up from her 1988 album, 'Kylie,' her debut. I couldn't really say which I like more, as they are both excellent albums. Pop music doesn't get much better than Kylie's older hits!

This is another of Kylie's older offerings, still young and still had credibility! The 'hits' continued and the album's material were all safe to be single releases! This album doesn't include the hit with Jason Donavon, Especially For You, like the Amazon tracklisting says.

The first 3 songs from yet another just-fun pop music 10-track album with excellent songs and upbeat tunes were singles. You should find your parents singing along...again! Hand On Your Heart, Wouldn't Change A Thing and Never Too Late were all top 5 hits and had great video's to back them up. (Please note the videos are not on the CD!)

Hand On Your Heart debuted in the Charts at #2, however the following week moved up 1 place to #1! Wouldn't Change A Thing was another #2 hit from Kylie and Never Too Late debuted at #17 (!) the first week on the UK Charts, due to the delay of the 12" release of the single. However, like all us pop fans loved Kylie, the following week it moved up an amazing 13 places to #4! THANK YOU!

The fourth track, Nothing To Lose is all about having your partner all to yourself! It's another great pop track as is the next song from the album. It's short and a ballad: Tell Tale Signs. Nevertheless, it's an excellent song and I love the outro! Kylie sounds beautiful! My Secret Heart is another short but amazing track. It's about loving someone but they are far away or apart so she is left alone with her Secret Heart! Genius! The seventh track is my favourite album track on the album. I'm Over Dreaming (Over You) is such as fun pop song! Need I say more?!

The next 2 tracks are more mature than other songs from the album. Tears On My Pillow was a song from one of Kylie's sound tracks and it went straight to #1 on the Charts! Heaven And Earth is a great song but probably the weakest on the album for me. Enjoy Yourself is the last track and the title track of the album. It's a really great track all about partying and picking up your dreams before it's too late! Well done!

This album, again, like her first went to #1 on the UK Charts and spent 33 weeks on the Top 100 UK Albums Chart!

4 out of 5 stars Never Too Late to Like This Album!.......2004-12-30

Kylie's second album is like "Kylie"...a very happy album..and pure pop music!!! The songs "Hand on Your Heart", "Wouldn't Change a Thing", "Nothing to Lose", "Never Too Late" and the ballad "Tears on My Pillow" are very good and most of them were in top 5 in UK. Four singles, four hits...if only "Nothing to Lose" would have been released too...it's such a good song. Kylie sings beautifully...and is also very beautiful. This album is still quite basic pop and Kylie started her great style in "Impossible Princess".
Stars: Tears on My Pillow, Hand on Your Heart, Never Too Late, Wouldn't Change a Thing

3 out of 5 stars Kylie, you made the wrong turn to Albuquerque.......2004-08-20

This 1989 album is a great Kylie Album.. but it isnt like the first one full of many different styles. S/A/W definetely rushed itinto the streets, it isnt bad, but, it could have been much better. it is infectious, but it also gets boring really quickly..
          the hits-
Hand on your heart- an infectious dance breakup song that gives the boyfriend a middle finger!
Wouldnt change a thing- A relationship that went bad, and so does this song after a couple of listens
Never too late- a great song, but it does become a little late after a while..
Tears on my pillow- A lazy ballad, makes you think of the movie Grease
Nothing to lose- Kylie meets Grace Jones in this ultra-slick pop hit
Enjoy Yourself- Kylie & Grace part 2, in this powerfully enchanting dance hit
I'm over dreaming- This pop song is good, but gets old real fast

This album is a great one, but only for 1. Kylie Fans, and 2. 80's SAW fans all of it sounds extremely dated except for one song... Hand on your heart.
          You go KYLIE!!!
