The comparitive 'Silence' Mixes/Remixes.......2006-12-02
It was the song 'Silence' sung so beautifully and eloquently by talented Sarah McLachlan that first introduced me to this wonderfully crafted song that is rich in haunting beat and has the power to take you away to another realm. 'Silence' is indeed a song that will be around in some form or another for a long time to come. This EP has 6 of the most well-known and popular remixes and mixes by various artists. Many of these remixes have graced other Delerium albums, others are on Sarah McLachlans own CD's.
Tracks 4&5&6 are on Delerium's Odyssey Remixes CD. Probably my most favourite remix is track 3, 'Airscape Remix Edit' that was the backbone of 'Mr & Mrs Smith' Movie. It is a short remix but a danceable and move provoking 3 minute interlude. Tracks 1&2 are relatively new and previously unreleased mixes that are uncovered gems of the highest order. 'Filterheadz Remix' is a 7 minute odyssey that has some great trance beats with a happy gait to it. 'Above & Beyond: 21st Century Edit' is the first track and another highly imaginative and compelling listen.
These remixes all came out early 2004 and were packaged together due to fan responce and requests. All in all, this EP is a must for any Delerium fan looking to add to his or her collection. Well worth the purchase.

classic........2005-03-16
another one of the few classics. this song, although it has been played maybe one too many times, is always going to be amazing. most of these mixes are old, but good nonetheless. and for the price you're paying -- it's well worth it. you'll be listening to this track more than you'd ever imagine. and for good reason.
5 stars.. because 4 just wasn't enough.
Definately no Silence here!.......2005-01-25
Delerium's 'Silence' is known to be one of the biggest tunes in the history of electronic music, if not THE biggest! Much thanks to Tiesto's breathtaking remix, which has been played over and over again in clubs all around the world. Remixing such a masterpiece isn't an easy task, but Above & Beyond has certainly managed to bring this classic tune up to date with their catchy uplifting remix. The Filterheadz and Michael Woods remixers are great too in their very own special ways, but I kinda miss the Airscape remix that was featured on the older release of 'Silence'. I would gladly replace it with the Fade remix.
Overall this CD is definately worth buying if you don't already own it. But I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5, because the Airscape remix isn't there.
"Fade" into silence..........2004-12-16
Silence, the amazing masterpiece from Delerium and Sarah McLachlan, is one of the top tracks with mixes that define trance today.
Yes, yet another single. But this single has some new mixes that put a new spin on the classic.
You will notice that there are actually only TWO new mixes (originally Scumfrog and Gabriel & Dresden were signed on to make mixes. G&D had cancelled, don't know what happened to Scumfrog. There were even talks about a Paul van Dyk mix.)
The other 3 mixes are just ones that most listeners are familiar with. Especially Tiesto's mix, who hasn't heard that one?? Fade's and Michael Wood's are both great too, in respect to the type of mix they created.
Tiesto's mix can be found almost everywhere, in it's original version, mixed... etc. Both Silence singles that came out before the 2004 edition have the Tiesto mix, as well as Sarah McLachlan's "Remixed" album, and Club Ibiza. It can also be found on Delerium's "Odyssey: The Remix Collection" which is a compilation of re-mixed Delerium tracks. On this remix album for Delerium, you can also find Fade's Sanctuary Mix (not the edit like on this single) and Michael Wood's mix. You can also find both versions of Fade's Sanctuary Mix on the blue Silence single with Tiesto's mix and Airscape's mix (a mix they should have definitely put on this album as well).
Above & Beyond's mix is amazing, any fan of Above & Beyond will definitely love this one as well as any fan of the "Silence" track. It's refreshing to hear a brand-new mix that blows you away. Above & Beyond layered trance beats with a new piano melody. Their arrangement of the vocals is interesting too. There's a part of the verse that they split up into three parts, which sounds real nice. You can find the original mix on Delerium's "Best Of Delerium" album also. ("Best of Delerium" features their biggest hits and singles since their 1994 release of "Semantic Spaces".)
Filterheadz mix could've have gone somewhere, but they didn't do anything to make you like it. It builds up to nothing really, though it did has some cool beats and synths. It's nothing similar in quality to their mix of Roc Project's [featuring Tina Arena] single, "Never".
Basically, if you don't have any of the mixes of Silence at all somehow, definitely get this single. It's harder to get the first copies of the Silence singles when it came out in 1997. (Though Amazon seems to have gotten a stock of those.) But the only single on here if you've heard the other mixes is Above & Beyond's mix.
I gave it three stars because of Above & Beyond's single was the only good and new thing on there, they just stuck old mixes to make it a single worth buying.
But as a Delerium and Sarah McLachlan fan, trance-lover and CD maniac, I'm not complaining. (Too much.)
Oh no, not again..........2004-12-01
I love Delerium's music (it's some of the best around) and these remixes are probably really very good but I, along with many other fans I'm sure, are deathly sick of hearing this song released over and over again. We've already established the fact that this song sounds great as a dance mix so when will it ever be enough? I understand this song was a big hit for them, thanks in part to mega-star Sarah McLachlan lending her gorgeous vocals to the lyrics, but lets move on already...
I'm eagerly anticipating their next record of all new material (reportedly set for release next Fall, 2005) but please no more "Silence" remixes.

Four strong remixes.......2005-05-01
Everyone's favorite Depeche Mode song has been released on three new singles since its remix showed up on DM's latest release, the Remixes 81-04. And it appears that this is the best of the three CDs since all four of these remixes are not available anywhere else (that I know of).
Track one is the Richard X extended remix. ETS has of course been remixed many times, and this take is built on a midtempo beat with a little less thump than the album version found on Violator. The choral samples and synth-strings are mostly absent. Dave Gahan's voice receives a subtle echo treatment here to good effect. The last minute and a half or so is a nice wind-down, forgoing the drum loop in favor of a warm, fading conclusion. Overall a pretty good version of a great song.
Track two is another variation on ETS: the Ewan Pearson extended remix. This one employs most of the expected elements of the song, but includes some twinkling synth flourishes which fit in nicely with the rest of the song. Like the previous remix, this one ends gradually rather than with a bang.
Track three is a scarcely recognizeable rendition of World in My Eyes: the Cicada Mix. Not much tips off the remix's origins besides Dave Gahan's vocals, which remain intact. The Cicada Mix is basically a club-thumper with a simple beat and a warm, ensconcing feel. Not the best remix of WIME available (that would be either the Mode to Joy mix or the Holy World mix), but still a nice variation on the song.
The last track is also the biggest surprise: the BRAT Mix of Mercy in You, an album track from Songs of Faith and Devotion. I've always enjoyed this song and wondered why it was never released as a single. This remix strips the original beat in favor of an a capella intro, followed by a menacing trip-hop grind. Of the four remixes on this CD, this one comes closest to equaling its respective original in terms of overall quality. For any true Depeche Mode fan, this CD is worth purchasing just for this very slick reinterpretation of Mercy in You.
You don't have to be a DM completist to enjoy this CD. All four tracks are worth having, though track 4 is probably the best.
Better than getting the Special Edition CD.......2004-12-11
The Ewan Pearson Remix of "Enjoy The Silence" and Cicada's remix of "World In My Eyes" are very much worth the price of the import. You can get it domestic (and why Amazon isn't selling the cheaper domestic release is beyond me) and you will be pleased. These mixes get DM fans on the floor fast.
Richard X delivers.......2004-12-09
This cd single ROCKS!!! This cd is a must for all DM fan's and for any D.J.'s that enjoy good remixes. I have been a "modee" for 15 year's and have to say that the quality remixes this single deliveres blew me away. The first track is a mix of "silence" re interpretted by the renowned D.J. Richard X, who of course is also from the UK. His style of eighties electronica and a slow smooth beat allow the listner to enjoy the melody without going crazy over too much "noise". Richard keep's the original flavor of the song without disturbing it too much. The second track is also a remix of "Enjoy the Silence" re done by someone I am not familiar with, Ewan Pearson. This mix is much more danceable and as a D.J. would not hesitate to throw it down on a crowded dance floor. It also keep's the same toneage of the original with all the lyric's intact. The crowned jewel on this single to my suprise is not the title track but one of the two bonus track's on the album. It is the "cicada mix" of "World in my eyes". This track hits hard and deep with the dark, brooding vocal styling's of Dave Gahan beckoning the listiner to see the world in his eyes. A touch of guitar riffs within this revamping give it a tougher edge than the original. Flood did this mix and it is hella good. It makes you want to hit the dance floor once the first beat is dropped. However you do not hear Martin's back up vocal's at all and I know to some that might dissapoint. The final track of "Mercy in you" from "Songs of Faith and Devotion" appears as "The Brat mix" was slow and dark, but that is it. "Devotion" was not one of my favorite album's but fan's of it might like this mix. This single was an import from England and did not dissapoint with a touch of the engllish flair. Yes these are all remixes but they are damn good ones.
Spreading the news around the world, Love and Peace.

Enjoy It Again.......2004-12-24
It's sad that they couldn't just remix the whole Violator Album...but they DID choose to remix THE best song on it. As a DJ i'm pretty convinced that Enjoy The Silence is one of the top 5 songs ever written. And with all the latest music heading back towards that synth pop of yester year it's easy to see why the would re-release this. It's not only well done but keeps the original feeling of the song in it's place. Most remixes kill the original feel and leave something to be desired. DM got it right this time! Although i'm not a fan of the Timo Mass mix, the Ewen Pearson mixes and Richard X take are the ones to look out for.
The return of a classic club track........2004-11-20
LA industrial DJ and Record Label Owner DJ Bractune once said of "enjoy the silence" that it was the only song he could think of that could fill the dance floor in any club, in any part of the world. And I would tend to agree. This single contains some decent remixes of enjoy the silence. None are as great as the timeless remix by Francois Kevorkian that appeared on the original domestic single in 1990, but this single is definatly worth putting on at your next party. A good variety of styles. The electro-clash-y remix of something to do is better than any of the milk-toast remixes that appeared on the special edition Remix album that just came out. I defy you not to tap your foot to it.

annoy the silence.......2006-02-06
I have the 5 track CD Single which includes the Timo Maas Remix. The original 1990 remixes (Hands & Feet mix, Rikitiktik mix, etc) were exceptional. This 2004 rehash is just plain poor. In some cases a total stripping down and reworking of a song can work wonders for it and create a new audience for the artist as well some more cash for the record company but not in this case. The beauty of the song was the opening guitar hook which is almost absent here. Some things are better left untouched and that hook is one of them. This is still one of my favourite songs but I'd rather listen to the original mixes than these poor second cousins!
Buy this only if you want to complete your DM collection!
The songs are on the 81-04 remix cd.......2005-01-11
Unless you want to collect all the "enjoy the silence" singles, it's not worth it. I have about 80 or so cds of different Depeche Mode singles, tribute albums, and regular cds. So unless you're a die hard Depeche Mode fan. And want to collect every cd. It's not worth it since both songs are already on the remixes 81-04 cd.
Title track is great but..........2004-11-06
The remix on this single of "Enjoy the Silence" is absolutely brilliant. It's current, danceable, punchy, and coherent. It stands up well to the standard set by the original song. But the reason this single gets 4 stars and not five is the b-side, Goldfrapp's remix of "Halo". It starts off wonderfully and has immense potential, but the high-pitched chorus destroys the dark tone of the song and puts it more into the territory of lounge singing. As both of these songs are on disc 3 of the 3-disc edition of "Remixes 81-04", you may want to skip this unless you are a completist.
