"The genesis for this compilation was the lack of success I had in buying one for my own enjoyment. There simply weren't many trip-hop compilations out there, and several of them wound up leaning much more towards slowed-down techno or washed-out easy listening. As a listener, I wanted something that had the languid, laid-back vibe of Portishead or Massive Attack, something that offered moments of stark beauty alternating with warm rapture. Rather than involving the bigger bands that the mainstream had already embraced, I spent a lot of time looking for material from bands around the world that hadn't blown up yet. This disc has cuts from bands in Japan, Russia, the UK, and the US. I probably listened to 300-400 tracks before selecting these 14 to appear on the disc and I'm very pleased with the results. I was on vacation in Vegas and while having dinner at Drai's, this disc started playing about halfway through dinner, which was a big thrill for me. I hope people enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together."

Not what I'd call trip-hop........2004-08-28

The music featured on this album is not what I'd call trip-hop; it's much more similar to mid-90's gothic or even "adult contemporary" music. Think Sarah McLachlan-type stuff. I agree with an earlier reviewer that none of the songs on the album really stand out. "Noir" is a disappointingly mediocre and monotonous album.

Amazon suggested that I purchase "She: A Female Trip Hop Experience" along with this item, which I did. That album was much closer to what I expect from an album billed as "female trip-hop". I recommend purchasing that ablum instead, if you're interested in actual trip-hop instead of featureless easy listening.

If you are looking for a jazzy, smooth, mellow, not so trip hoppy album, then this is the album for you. Most of the songs on here sound the same, the voices aren't any thing too outstanding, and the music is nice, but not catchy. If you liked the first five songs on the album She: A Trip Hop Experience, then you will be disapointed with this album. There are no such gems on this one, no one song that really jumps out with that beautiful original greatness. This is okay for a nice ride in to car, relaxing, and just okay. Honestly myself, I wish I hadn't wasted my money though. But for others, it may be okay. But nothing when compared to the former, Massive Attack, or Hoovephonic. You won't miss anything good if you don't buy this album.

The mix I was searching for but never knew existed. Bada bing, bada boom, here it is. Perfect. Awesome. Every song can be listened to. The entire album is smooth, trippy, lusty, seductive, sexual, relaxing, and did I mention smooth and lusty? Perfect night and bedroom music. Blows every single "chill" mix out of the water. Perfection.
