Customer Reviews:
quite a discovery!.......2006-06-23
I adored Get Off at the time of release, no matter if it's as irritating as it is infectiously enjoyable, but knew nothing else by them other than their forgotten classic Party Boys, a sultry, mesmerizing, throbbingly sexy track with an unusually slow beat and leanings towards New Wave (this track is presented here in its extended, though not fully extended mix). Party Boys is still far superior to anything else Foxy ever did, but the rest of this compilation turned out to be a real suprise. A few forgettably fluffy tracks notwithstanding, there are are serious treats here: Get off your Aahh and Dance was a minor hit and stands up well today - an instrumental with meandering flutes, manic violins and frenetic bongos, it pleasantly recalls the cheesiness and cheerfulness of the disco years. Other tracks hint at a versatility one wouldn't have expected from this bunch - Mademoiselle is a down-tempo and super catchy blend of soul and funk; even Tena's Song's nod to 1920's sounds works well. The most energetic and likeable track though, aside from Get Off and it's lesser follow-up Hot Number, is Head Hunter (here in its 12inch version), a slapping, funky, driving track that recalls Get Off without being derivative (like Hot Number) and goes one better even by not being so aggressive and retaining interest throughout. This particular compilation is highly recommended, and even the liner notes are well written, embellished by sexy/kitschy photos.
