Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Old disco?.......2007-03-08

Popular songs, kind of disco. It could be nice for some funny parties...

5 out of 5 stars So good, even STR8 people can get into AOL's campy fun!!.......2006-12-13

Like myself, LOL!!! This is just a stupendous hits collection, which will make you react "What the...???" and "What the hell!!!" simultaneously, and just get into the fun. As one reviewer in the "Music Hound Guide To Rock" book said, this is a "variety show of dance pop with shaved legs and a hairy chest", and that description couldn't be more apt. I've noticed this ABBA-like band of Swedes get noticed for their irreverent campiness, more than their music, which is kind of unfortunate, as it's typical Scandinavian pop genius...sorta like the problem Jellyfish had in getting taken seriously...putting a clown nose on the Mona Lisa, if you will. Like, why CAN'T you be genius pop and have outrageous fun at the same time???

Anyhoo, this swell AOL collection is a good place to start, and/or all you need, depending on your taste. I've noticed there is a newer 2001/2002 2CD collection out called "The Complete Docu-Soap", as AOL reunited after 5 years...I know Alexander formed a dancepop group called Vacuum, and he produced a trio of genius Ethiopian teenage girls called MIDI, MAXI & EFTI (check out their 1992 debut (only??) album on Columbia, it's overlooked genius), plus in 2005/2006, Alexander was the keyboardist/producer in a NEW dancepop trio called BODIES WITHOUT ORGANS, with a great album on Capitol/EMI...I gotta keep up with Mr. Bard.

Every song is great here...faves are "Crucified" (of course), "Israelism" (I am Jewish, so this song is hilarious...Jean-Pierre is over-the-top funny), "La Plage De Saint Tropez" (similar melody as this song by Greek diva Anna Vissi, but awesome all-around, both songs), "King Midas" (as good as the Hollies song "King Midas In Reverse"), all 18 really...

As for the vidclips, I will look them up on YouTube...they posted the BWO vidclip, why not AOL??? It'll be grand to get a DVD collection though. I wonder if Jean-Pierre released any solo records, and if AOL is an ongoing thing, with BWO in action and all...

Fun stuff, and ahead-of-it's time classic campy pop that's actually getting it's due!!! Excellent.

5 out of 5 stars great camp entertainment.......2005-07-19

I have been into the army of lovers for a long time and find them an amazing group, they music is excellent and they videos go to the extremes, which is great in the way they express themselves with they songs and videos
I do love the video crucified and la plague de st tropez it is so over the top and very camp
Im just sorry that they videos are not available to buy, ive tried loaded them from the web site but the quality is very distorted
I hope oneday we fans will be able to enjoys the complete video collection on dvd

1 out of 5 stars One of the best albums from people with no talent.......2004-10-29

This album is trash -- and I love it. The sexual ambiguity, gaudy Liberace-esque costumes, the downright awful vocals -- what is there not to like?

My favorite songs are the ones in which Alexander does not sing -- his voice absolutely sucks. Not even the wonders of the music studio can save him. La Camilla and Jean Pierre, however, gotta love em'.

5 out of 5 stars A FABULOUS COLLECTION OF HITS.......2002-09-07

One of life's true pleasures comes in this "Les Greatest Hits" album. Starting at warp speed with "Give My Life" you're wisked to "Venus and Mars" in the blink of an eye. "Ride the Bullet" is great, and of course "Crucified" can be relied upon to keep the tempo racing. "Everytime You Lie" and "Israelism" are unique, and following form, "Sexual Revolution" breaks down all barriers. "I Am" is pure fun. The whole album soars to the stars, and you can with it. No Army of Lovers fan should be without this CD in their collection.
