Jimmy Buffet has become better known for his roles as a bestselling author and seafaring adventurer than as a songsmith, which is why this 15-song live collection could not have arrived at a better time. Recorded in Nantucket, it revives all the charming, affable elements that launched a legion of Parrotheads, a Hawaiian-shirt-wearing following that's come to rival Deadheads for fanaticism. The songs are lush, humorous, and frequently reference the props we've come to expect from Buffett--bikini-clad women, rum drinks, and low-slung hammocks. While not exactly the world's best vocalist, the one-time college cheerleader uses a deft, antic hand to create witty scenarios and sling light-handed barbs aimed at everything from mall culture to his own foibles. The results are curiously captivating. Besides, who can really resist another round of "Margaritaville"? --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars Great Buffett Live.......2007-06-01

A great sample of Buffett live, more laid back than Feeding Frenzy, but worth your money even if you have earlier live albums

5 out of 5 stars Even for casual Buffett fans, his is a CD you must own.......2007-04-06

I bought Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (the title comes from the fact that Buffett performs most of his concerts on those days) shortly after it came out, and it still remains one of my all time favorite CDs after many years. In fact my household owns four copies of this CD, one per person. The live versions of many songs will make you a fan of some of Buffett's less notable studio cuts - Fruitcakes, One Particular Harbor, Coconut Telegraph and Brown Eyed Girl are much more energetic and fun than the studio versions. Margaritaville is definitely the best of the live versions that have been recorded.

5 out of 5 stars Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays.......2007-01-11

Even if Jimmy Buffett is not one of your favoritue atists in music, you will enjoy this CD. My husband and I are big fans of his, even my daughter who mainly listens to hard rock and rap enjoys it when we play this CD. My husband owns everyone of Jimmy Buffet's CD's and this is our favorite. We actually had to buy this CD because our original CD got cracked at a party we took it to. ENJOY!

As always Amazon sent it quickly and safely.

5 out of 5 stars Still Love Buffett, But Key West Blows This Away.......2006-07-25

I'm a tried and true Parrothead for more years than I'd like to count and I've owned this CD since it was available. But I was listening to it tonight along with "Live At Fenway" and I have to admit that with Jimmy keeping repeating himself like he has been for almost a decade now that I took it off. What was once so fresh and original now is starting to sound so mailed-in and tired and old, and like Stevie Nicks wrote "I'm getting older too" and really don't need to be reminded of it all the time. I gave myself a break and put Bubba's fishing bud Bill Jabanoski's "The Key West Party CD" and then "Key West, Florida ...Island Of Dreams" on instead. What a difference. Jabanoski is more raw than Jimmy but he kicks your [...] into gear to have fun, get crazy, get angry, and get back to kicking yourself into having the best time you can. Guess it was just finally time for someone for Jimmy to pass the throne onto, But he picked really well.

5 out of 5 stars Parrotheads Unite.......2005-02-25

This album is great for the car or for anywhere. It is a collection of several different shows but it still flows great. This CD has a good balance of some of Jimmy's latest and some of his greatest hits. Some of my favorites include Cheeseburger in Paradise, Come Monday, and of course the classic Margaritaville with the lost verse. I personally like this album better then some of the best of albums that have come out. I would highly recommend it to parrotheads and non-parrotheads alike.

5 out of 5 stars Dexter Freebish ROCKS!.......2007-07-26

AWESOME CD!!!! I absolutely love Dexter Freebish's music, it's deep, carries a great beat, and gets you movin. I'm not sure if it's their record label, or their promoting of the band, but these guys should be #1 on the music charts.

5 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Debut Offering.......2006-05-06

Singer Kyle (he doesn't use a last name), bassist Chris Lowe, and keyboardist Scott Romig leveraged the opportunities that came their way after winning the 1999 John Lennon Songwriting Award into a very, very good debut release on Capitol Records. The winning song, called "Leaving Town" is a pop gem that received massive airplay on every radio station within a day's drive of their home state of Texas. Unfortunately Dex was another one of those bands with huge potential and marketability that fell victim to Capitol Records' "restructuring" in the early 2000's, thus killing the album just as it was gathering forward momentum. Rather than enjoying international fame and fortune the band was relegated to just another act set aside by the bozos at Capitol.

Despite all that, this is a fabulous pop album. After the infectious hook of "Leaving Town" the band comes back with a couple more hook-laden offerings in "My Madonna" and "Higher", before launching into the simmering "What Do You See" that proves that this pop band can rock as well as the best of them. The rest of the album continues in much the same way, intelligent pop songs becoming interspersed with melodic ballads, and even a lament that sounds like a broken soul crying for help. This is a band that should have been huge, and now find themselves without a record deal or much of a future.

5 out of 5 stars "Leaving Town" is worth more than the price of the CD........2004-10-11

"Leaving Town" is a perfect song. It has great production, great musicianship, and a perfect melody and chord progression. Buy the CD for this song, and the rest of the album should support your love for Dexter Freebish.

However, if you can get "Leaving Town" through a LEGAL music service, such as RHAPSODY at www.rhapsody.com (where you can listen to music for free with a $10/month subscriptions and burn cds at 79 cents per song)... there you can buy the single. No matter what, get ahold of the single "Leaving Town" and support music like it by buying it. That's the only way we can truly help the industry choose great music.

"Higher" and "Tomorrow" are awesome/perfect songs by Dexter Freebish. Take it from a musician/producer and radio industry pro. Buy this!

5 out of 5 stars The best album I've heard in a long time!.......2003-06-21

WOW! That sums up this disc. I heard Dexter Freebish for the first time when a friend of mine forced her headphones on my ears and told me I had to listen to this band. I listened to "Leavin' Town" and I knew right away that these guys were good. She let me borrow her CD three months ago, and I haven't given it back since. Every song on this disc is great (although the last one is somewhat slow). I can't really pick a favorite, but I would say that "Leavin' Town" and "Wonderland" truely show both the instrumental and singing talent of Dexter Freebish. Like I said, every song on this album is great, and anyone who wants to get their money's worth out of a CD should buy this. I cannot wait until DF comes out with their next album, because I will definitely be buying it!

5 out of 5 stars Blowin' Up.......2003-03-24

Why aren't these guys blowing up a little more? This is, to me, one of the best albums of my generation. It is, in many ways, equivalent to The Counting Crow's style. The writing is simply brilliant, and the music comes out sounding good enough to be pop, yet rock and artistic enough to please any real music fan. On top of all this they are great live. I saw them on New Year's a couple of years ago. It was outdoors, 35 degrees, and raining. As soon as they came on people went nuts, and much more so than for 3 Doors Down, Eve 6, or lesser-known Nickelback (the other bands there). Truly a generational feeling and style. Buy this album and help support true music.

5 out of 5 stars brilliant 80s synthpop that was all but ignored.......2007-07-08

Upon purchasing this compilation of Rational Youth tracks from the early 80s to 1985, I immediately went and bought their entire catalog--much of which I had to settle for on vinyl because it hasn't been released on CD. Rational Youth absolutely mastered the new wave synth dance pop genre, and should have been a hit machine like Depeche Mode, OMD, and New Order, but instead, went relatively unnoticed. The male vocals, the melodies, the synths and drum machines are the epitome of that 80s sound, reminding me of everyone from Gary Numan to Spoons and Men Without Hats. This compilation includes several alterate mixes as well as some rare 12" versions of a few of their songs, making it a collector's dream. Don't pass this up while it is still in print.

HANK JONES have always been a “most likely to make you feel good” type of band for the hardcore scene. Their passionsets them apart from other hardcore bands, and their new LP Saturdays Of Thunder exhibits this perfectly. HANK JONES communicate their emotions and convictions through their music. Saturdays Of Thunder has all the energy and aggression that parallels their live show, and it expands theirsound into something truly unique. You can still hear the echoes of bands like MINOR THREAT and YOUTH OF TODAY, but the new album introduces more melody and structure. Saturdays Of Thunder is the fulfillment of the potential of HANK JONES. If you mix the energy and antics of ANDREW WK and the fast paced music of MINOR THREAT, you’re left with HANK JONES. Sick of the negative attitude in the hardcore music scene, HANK JONES make their attempt to bring back the excitement and energy that the scene is currently lacking.

        Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A Lot To Come From This Band.......2005-07-23

        Review by Tyler Wagnon:

Hank Jones really ought to turn a few heads with this one. They aren't technical, they aren't brutal, but they f##kin' rock out with their c0cks out.

Saturdays of Thunder is 13 tracks of old school punk and poppy hardcore laced with a good old rock and roll edge. Picture a foundation of The Bronx's rocked out punk sound with a lot of old school influences from the likes of The Clash, Black Flag, and Youth of Today.

The songs are nice and simple, but their energy will knock you flat if you aren't prepared. As for the recording, it's a bit thin and dry, but it is probably intentional because it sounds really nice for the type of music Hank Jones lays down.

Hank Jones does what any modern hardcore band should. They take their influences and blend them into a sound that is both reminiscent of the old days, but also can appeal to a modern fan base. This is a good start for a young band, and in the future they might do something really special.
