Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
One of the lesser-known yet equally dynamic Reprazent masterminds, DJ Die hits the ground running with his collection, selecting cuts that smack down the beats (his own crisp and malevolent "Driver"), funk them up (Scorpio's "Samewayz"), and carry almost romantic melodies with the breakbeat (his own "Lost Days"). His continuous mix contains a larger selection of his own creations, fused into an imaginative and versatile set that never, ever lets up. The second-disc mixes are some of the greatest elements of the whole Full Cycle "Through the Eyes" collection, and it's tremendous to know that if you played the Roni Size, DJ Krust, and Die discs sequentially, you'd have one of the best drum & bass parties in your town, no question. Indispensable as part of the full spectrum of the Cycle. --Steffan Chirazi

5 out of 5 stars Very, very good..........2001-04-08

This is the third (last?) in a series of this release. The first two were two-disc sets mixed by Roni Size himself and the other by Krust. This last one, adds another one of the Reprazent crew...DJ Die.

It's a very tough call as to which one is the best. I think I prefer Krust's over the other two. However, having recently purchased Die's "two-cents" on the issue, I have to say that ranking is questionable.

Die hits this one hard. It is dark, underground and beautiful. The material is very similar to the other two releases. In fact, on each release, one cd is simple tracks, while the other cd is the "mixed" cd. However, while Roni Size's version is close to Krust's (both in style and in the actual material), DJ Die's actually presents material not found on either of the other two. Brilliant marketing from the little full-cycle label. Touche!

But, not to sound condescending or critical, the material is all pretty-much flawless. Very good d&b from the leaders of the school. Very worth having as the production values are impeccable by full-cycle.

You should enjoy this one if you are at all into the Reprazent sound.

4 out of 5 stars for pinnacle drum &bass get this.......2001-03-30

From someone who wasn't into repz' new lp. This is probably the best drum and bass album out now. It is very smooth, underground, and quality. Die's is the best contribution the the through the eyes series. But for someone who is not into drum and bass- You would have to hear it first. And you can listen to a ten minute exerpt from the album on full cycles web site, dj die in the mix

On this one of the three spanking double-disc sets from the Reprazent crew, Roni Size stretches his fingers with some engaging, spacey breakbeats and proper hardcore drum & bass that is sure to delight fans. The first disc showcases some of Roni's traveling favorites, and from the excellent warm-up/jump-up "On Point" to the ethereal-then-sinister hardcore of Suv's "Rip Curl," you can hear that Size favors a dramatic edge to his d & b. The continuous mix on disc two quite simply shows what one man, a night in the studio, some stimuli, and some great tunes will create: your own drum & bass set, with vocal patches but no rules. It's good enough to announce in your house with fliers. --Steffan Chirazi

2 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you were hoping to get more Reprazent.......2006-04-06

This is just the standard, repetitive, aggressive DnB you can hear anywhere. If you were hoping for the subtlety and rough groovyness of Reprazent, you won't get it here.

1 out of 5 stars Roni size followed the way down.......2004-07-28

??? what's this record about???? where is the old roni size?? honestly on this record i can save a couple of song in the first disc and a coulpe in the second (that are the same songs of the first disc mixed......). I've been positively surprised by the first record of roni size, it's about drum'n'bass made with stile, new forms is THE drum'n bass album... in the mode isn't great as new forms but is worth the listening... the others are simply one worst of the other.... this is an album featuring dj die, dj krust and roni size... it feels like music from an eighties videogame... full of boiuncy suonds and without any shade of style and taste... absolutely a record to avoid with touchin down

4 out of 5 stars It all depends on what you like..........2002-06-22

Granted, Roni Size is one of the best Drum N' Bass producers in the world, however, his style can become very abstract at times. "Through the Eyes" is a good example of this. In this double CD, Roni Size include some picks off of his Full Cycle label, and also provides a D&B mix. Personally, I really wasn't feeling the mix at first, but after a while, I see where he was coming from. If you're familiar with the difference between Trance and Deep Trance, House and Deep House, then you'll understand why I call this CD "Deep Drum N' Bass". If you're really into it, get this CD, and you won't be disappointed. "Kloakin Device", "Mine", and "Rip-Curl" are the illest tracks on here, however.

4 out of 5 stars Your not ready 4 this.......2001-10-24

4 anyone thinkin of gettin this album, i say get it.For hopscotch and freak show.u wont b dissapointed.da drop on freak show is live-youll get any man jumpin, trust me.i remember when i first herd these tracks at 1 of roni size's sets, the first thing i thought woz i gotta get these!and u should 2!

3 out of 5 stars maybe my expectations were set too high..........2000-10-27

From the start, Size sets the mood for this album-a sloppy (at least in his standards) wanna-be jump-up/tech-step album that falls way short of its potential. Mediocre breaks litter this seemingly half-hearted attempt to produce a more mechanized sound. Perhaps I was spoiled by the quality of New Forms, but a lot of these tracks are not even par. Hell, one track is flat out annoying. Granted, there are a few diamonds in there, but there's too much rough to compensate. Go buy New Forms-download this one-it's disposable.

DJ Krust has often professed not to have an overt thought process as he goes into a mix; he has said he doesn't enjoy thinking too much. He is, by self-definition, a creature of now. Which explains why this collection, and subsequent mix, is such a varied-yet-symmetrical piece of work. From the softer vocal strains of Mine's "Reel Time" straight into the self-produced black-hole darkness of his own "Freak Show," Krust creates edgy and attractive chaos while dropping in many classics along the way (his "Kloakin Device" remains one of the greatest slices of drum & bass in many a year). And what of that continuous-mix disc? Kick back, recreate, and let the wonderfully thoughtless Krust take you on an instinctual mix that underscores both his talent and his imagination. -Steffan Chirazi

4 out of 5 stars A treat from the Reprazent boys and their new label.......2000-08-23

History Lesson: Roni Size made a gigantic debut with his groundbreaking LP "New Forms", which he made along with a collective of equally artistic and bang-on artists, known together as Reprazent (which featured Krust, Die, Suv, and Onalee). Things have been quiet since that album in 1997, and if you don't count the solo Krust LP and Roni's side project Breakbeat Era, we all wondered where the gang was? Well, this comp answers that question. The groove collective known as Reprazent has formed a label named "Full Cycle" and is using "Through the Eyes" as a media kick off. It is 2 disks; disk one being some tasty tid-bits from the new stable's library, and disk two is a DJ session of many of said songs by Krust himself. The cover of this CD is black, which is important, because there is also a white cover cover (listed here in ... as same title, but as by the artist Roni Size), which has different songs on the 1st CD and has a DJ set by Roni Size on disk. ... for more info: both the CD and the site are dope. (PS - the new Roni Size/Reprazent joint is unleashed in October).

5 out of 5 stars Breakz Breakz Breakz all up in yo face!.......2000-08-18

I have the Roni Size and Die presented Cd's as well. But Krust's cd really reprazents the new Through the Eyes album. CD's very in tracks so you might not get 1 or 2 on the other. Krust is the like the Grooverider for the Bristol Crew. Those are my two favorite Drum'n'bass djs! You can find three versions: Die, Size, and Krust. And I'm pretty sure Suv has one too, but not completely sure Buy the Krust version!
