different but not like I would like.......2006-03-22

the cd is very arabic, but its to many techno with the arabic instruments. its a cd more to dance to listen quiet. i guess that its not bad, but the cd itsn't the perfect music to listen when i want rest or creat an ambient exotic, its so jumping.

This is exactly the type of world music cd I have been searching for. It is by far my favorite cd in my collection and has been since the moment I put it in. Track 2 is the only exception in that it could definately be left out. Must have, you will not regret it.

It seems to me that the techno "community" is bipolar. Either they're really nice people with morals, or they're totally immoral and into strippers, getting drunk, doing drugs and screwing around. I've always loved the sound of pure energy that goes with techno music, but not the cultural garbage that goes with a lot of it. For me, this CD is perfect, since I'm also interested in Islam as a religion as well as morality and family values. But why be boring about it? At the same time, I'm really mad at Bush for his opinion that he has a right to invade other nations and conquer them on a whim (buying stuff that pertains to Islam will create a culture that will be less accepting of our brutality toward the Islamic world). I like the "Music of Islam" series by David Parsons (Celestial Harmonies), although this music was much more serious and formal. "Desert Grooves" isn't nasty or overly formal. It's just the right combination.

Forget the electronica aspect, you can get that in a million places. This CD lives up to its name and gives you a nice groove.

It's not a bad CD. On the contrary I think it has many beautiful songs, also only instrumental ones which are also full of strange sounds, very exotic of course, and finally it has some boring songs. I have to confess I expected to find more electronical sounds. When I first listen to it at home, I get a little dissapointed because it has not the power of typical electronic music, but on the other hand it has very beautiful songs. I will criticize the note inside the box: it doesn't mix that much the middle eastern rythms with electronic sounds but... it's not what I expected, but I like it !! If you like lounge, buy it!!
