4 out of 5 stars Another UNKLE classic.......2006-05-12

If you like creative beats and eclectic breaks - this is for you.

4 out of 5 stars the cool unkle with the goods.......2004-06-24

very varied mix from unkle in a 3 cd set- the cd entitled shin is the best-closer to the slower fiction style. the other two are good but sometimes seem to be trying to match current dj mix trends. unkle are best in a slower pyschedelic hiphop style in my opinion and some of this is close to traditional techno and house. Still its a diverse mix that most electronic fans will enjoy and the true standouts are all the remixes of the original unkle tracks like lonely soul-rabbit in your headlights-nursery rhyme-etc. worth it for the shin disc alone. of note-*** Two copies i bought had to be returned because of skipping-brand new out of package- i think the cd presser didnt catch the error as the new release boxset all seem to skip in places- especially during the g1 disc(red hot chili peppers- breakin the girl). ironically the best discthat i like is perfect- both g1 and taj cds skip in places so keep your receipts.

5 out of 5 stars The best thing you will hear in a while........2004-03-30

I often read bumped up reviews here in amazon, 5 stars here, 5 stars there. Many I would disagree with, despite being good albums, they are maybe just a 4 star good, 4.5 even. Do Androids dream of electo beats is not a 4 star album though. Unkle bring your listening to a new level. This album reminded me why I started listening to breaks in the first place: for intricate montages of sound bringing different styles and beats together in a way which flows, providing an enlightening experience, both chilling and uplifting. For a beautiful merger of Unkle's previous sounds, some shadow cuts and tunes you didn't know you liked until now, Unklesounds is the sound of the future. enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars essential for you UNKLE fanboys/girls..........2004-01-09

UNKLE was dj shadow and james lavalle.
originally released overseas in the U.K. as a limited run of about 300 copies for the mo wax label (not the mass realeased bootleg of what you see here-the original doesn't have a bar code on it's outer slipcase), it finally hits here. 3 CDs you wonder? what kind of UNKLE magic could they house? well, it's not a tightly packaged album in the vein of the groundbreaking psyence fiction, as it is one continuous loop of great beats and samples; some very familiar, and some you may not have heard. diverse as clips of the "bladerunner" theme (vangelis) to the stones' sympathy for the devil and the closing of the set with fleetwood mac's the chain...this is experimental and pure turntable escapism...not a set of remixes or revisits necessarily, but more of the expressive collage of sound that shadow has put out in his past solo efforts, but still more of the familiarity to the genre with lavalle. for all UNKLE-heads out there, this is one to pick up. (part two of the set is "big brother is watching you.")

    Album Description

"Do Androids" is the new CD of this survivor from the almost extinct Japanese progressive scene. Teru's Symphonia, just like their other CDs (also available on our catalogue), is led by the ex-Novela guitarist and offers a sumptuous progressive rock, elaborated and sophisticated to the limits, with impressive and emphatic keyboards complex arrangements, precious themes, refined melodies which alternate lyrical and adorned crescendos and soft sequences. Its style is reminiscent of Outer Limits, Pale Acute Moon, Mr Sirius.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent vocals and well crafted songs.......2001-05-23

Terutsugu has fronted a nice blend of orchestral and rock music with "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Camel?" All of the songs are well written and find a balance between keyboards and guitar. The real star of the album, in my opinion, is the amazing vocals of singer Megumi Tokuhisa. Wow! This girl has an incredible voice. She has quite a range of both pitch and expression. I can only liken her to Kate Bush in her ability to sing in a variety of styles, but she can also belt out a metal tune with more power than Kate could ever muster. I'll buy the other Teru's Symphonia CDs just to hear more of this talented woman. If you realize that the Japanese language doesn't lend itself well to western-style music you can REALLY appreciate her skill. Teretsugu is to be commended for writing songs that showcase both of their talents. Overall, the CD is very accessable. In parts it is straight-ahead rock, but there are enough time changes and orchestral flourishes to satisfy the adventurous. For you Kate Bush fans, I'll put "From Softly Night - Till Blessing Morning" (Track 5) right there with my favorite Kate (The Dreaming). It is both spooky and playful. WOW!

    4 out of 5 stars Interesting Offering!.......2001-03-14

This CD has very interesting textures and arrangements. The production seems to be on the cheaper side. The songs are quite nice and they are some pretty good tunes on this album. The lead vocals can be a bit grating though. Overall a good album, though I liked "The Gate" better.
