Architechnology

With its full-length debut, the four man crew known as Rubberoom emerges from the depths of the Chicago hip-hop underground. Be forewarned: Architechnology is not filled with lilting, pop-style rap; rather, this is a challenging record brimming with a stygian beat attitude and cryptic lyrical exposure. MCs Lumba and Meta-Mo deliver steady, propulsively assured rhymes tinged with bits of postapocalyptic fervor over ominous beats concocted by the production team of Fanum and the Isle of Weight (a.k.a. the Opus). Tracks like "Smoke," "Lockjaw," "The Shining," and "Style Wars" not only contain lyrics painting pictures of mutant uprisings, telekinetic destruction, and survival of the fittest but also unleash a shifting sonic miasma of throbbing undulation, alternating between stark, minimalist beats and intricate, progressive compositions. Other tracks, such as "Acid," are awash in a shifting sheet of neo-orchestral madness, while "Sector Rush (Re-Built)" presents fluid lyrical exposure augmented by a shuffling snare-driven beat and wavering keyboard ambiance. If hip-hop noir is your thing, then Architechnology delivers the darkness with verve and finesse. --Spencer Abbott

4 out of 5 stars Atmospheric hip-hop.......2006-03-14

I was a bit leery upon inital purchase. I wasn't a but fan of The Opus' proudction, but this release definitely shut me up. The lyrics are abrasive, and the beat are moddy and futuristis without being too overbearing. And at such a great price, no one can complain!

5 out of 5 stars one the greatest slept on albums in hiphop!!!!!!.......2005-04-15

5 out of 5 stars Before Their Time...Before Time Itself.......2004-02-25

Can you really comprehend sonic waves above human hearing? No, but that's exactly how I felt when I popped in the Rubberoom CD. From the intro to the outro I was engulphed in the futuristic combos of Meta-Mo and Lumba a.k.a. Axe and Torch as they ripped, pillaged, and burned through the acoustic range of human hearing and comprehension. The Opus provide a musical bed of flawless digital orchestration. The intensity of the lyrics and music combined could cause a listener to snap his own neck due to the headbobbing provoking anthems. This is more than hip hop...its Architechnolgy (well crafted classics from the future). Thank them for the foresight.

5 out of 5 stars Keep it classic so it lasts like acid............................2004-01-24

The sounds of Lumba & Meta-Mo, backed by The Opus( Isle Of weight, Fannum and DJ Stizo) bring a breath of fresh air to the Hip Hop community, the album is filled with heavy, abstract, yet somewhat gothic beats delivered with the most intense an energetic lyricism, first I heard "style Wars" on campus radio I didn't know who these cats were, then I heard "The Shining" it only took 2 tracks to convince me to courier this masterpiece to SA. Lumba's delivery in it's self without the lyrics would be intimidating as it oozes with confidence, Meta take's me way back in the days when I first heard Saafir's deep voice (uniqueness) although nowhere similar, both MC's deliveries are on point and comapatible, By just listening to the album you get an adrenalin rush!!!! All tracks are nowhere near disappointing, cause every single one is definitely different, they achieve this by enlisting an entourage of over 10 reputable DJ's ( PNS of the Molemen, Boy Wonder, Massacre, Presyce and Jesse De La Pena) to mention but a few, almost every single track has it's own DJ. I listened from start to finish without even hesitating to forward. Standout tracks for me though are Smoke, Lock Jaw, Bleach, The Shining, ACID, Style Wars, Sector Rush and Architechnology. Damn!!! the guest MC's are all in accordance, but Path and S.P.O (Who was part of the group) are supreme. A definite masterpiece...A job welll one Gentlemen......cop this while still available......Carelessly Cavorting

These cats bring thoughtful lyrics over some wacky- not wack- beats. They're unique but they pound. I play it all the way through.
