A New Reality

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Frankie Knuckles "A New Reality" transpired as a reflection of his touring, and the transformation he felt post 9/11. The observations around the globe, peoples need to party & enjoy life, their need to escape, and also connect with other. Knuckles has taken that global information and created a mixture of house and soulful R&B. Knuckles brings back his team Engineer Dave Sussman along with arranger Danny Madden, programmers and Keyboard players Eric Kupper, Alex Schantez, and Peter "Ski" Schwartz for strings. Nicki Richards, known by superstars from Janet Jackson to Sting as the girl to get on backing vocals is featured on tracks such as "Matter of Time", "Journey", "I’ve Had Enough", "The Bumpkin Song (Gimme Gimme)". To take you further on this Journey thorough time you will find "Hit the Flo", co written and engineered by Satoshi Tomiie, which features CeCe Rogers on vocals.

The first single "Bac N da Day" is the first time Knuckles and Jamie Principle have collaborated in almost 20 years and is mixed by the Cleptomaniacs, Brian Tappert and John Julius Knight. To round out this package, Knuckles has discovered yet another new talent in Japan piano player/ writer Daisuke, who wrote and performed the track "Emotional Energy". The album is full of surprises and will appeal to lovers of Dance and Electronic as well as R&B!

5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

By the time Gang Starr's rapper Guru created the "experimental fusion of hip-hop and jazz" he called Jazzmatazz back in 1993, the idea of blending the two African-American styles had been fairly well explored. But as the first wholly self-conscious genremixing, Jazzmatazz Volume I was at least a decent novelty record. In the two Years that followed, however, jazz rap--from Digable Planets to Buckshot Lefonque to the Roots--grew into a dominant strain of alternative hip-hop.

The good news is that 1995's Jazzmatazz II acknowledges the changing times. Guru ups the ante by collecting artists from R&B (Chaka Khan, Mica Paris) and reggae (Ini Kamoze, Patra) in addition to jazz (Ramsey Lewis, Donald Byrd, Freddie Hubbard) and rap (Kool Keith, Big Shug). The concept broadens to bring together makers of all black music. At best, the songs reflect this more robust brew: "Watch What You Say," for instance, blends Khan's dynamic blue improvisational singing and Branford Marsalis's subdued saxophone phrases with Guru's rap and DJ Premier's unorthodox track of video game sound effects.

The bad news, though, is that Volume II fails in precisely the same places Volume I did. First, Guru still raps with fine tone but little gift for either rhythm or rhyme. In a monotone he self- righteously calls himself "The Lifesaver" but offers only vague solutions like "deal with reality and try to keep focus" to innercity turmoil. Second, except for Khan's vocals and perhaps Lewis' piano solo on "Respect the Architect," the style meshes never get a chance to rise out of the same tried hip-hop form. --Roni Sarig

4 out of 5 stars Rap + Jazz x 2= Jazmatazz Volume 2 (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4 stars).......2006-12-23

I don't know what the editorial reviewer was listening to. Guru's second series of Jazzmatazz was great to listen to. I heard the first one earlier this year and felt to cop the second volume. Guru wanted to create the same thing he did back in 1993, with a blend of hip hop and jazz. On the first album, it was only twelve tracks deep. Here on the second, it's a total of twenty tracks. Also there are more featured artists on this one than it was on the first.

A lot of these tracks you can easily catch a vibe to. "Lifesaver" is a easy listening track with the singing of Baybe in the background. Or with the reggae mix "Medicine" featuring Ini Kimoze, True Masters, and Donald Byrd. Hip hop plays a mix in this album also, like on the good song "Respect The Architect" with Bahamadia. Or "Young Ladies", a tracks cut out for young ladies, that features Big Shug, Kool Keith, and Patra. True, Guru has that monotone voice, but that never stopped him in Gang Starr, and it sure doesn't stop him here, he can still cut a flow. And on most tracks, his vocals blend in with the music, so it doesn't make a big deal. A lot of these songs have a positive message, like on "Count Your Blessings", Guru sees what he really had during his hard times.

As for things I didn't like. Theres a lot of Jazzaludes and skits that wern't really necessary. Also there were quite a few tracks I didn't have a taste for. Also there are some tracks that Guru has a hard staying on beat, like the song "Looking Through The Darkness". I like that track though, so I'll name that my honorable mention track.

This is a good album. If you heard the first "Jazzmatazz" and haven't heard this one, give it a try. I heard the third one wasn't good at all though. Or if you're just curious or want to hear more of Guru, you might enjoy this here. Back in '95, Guru proved that he can carry himself with or without Primo. Speaking of Primo, he would produce the track "Watch What You Say" so he had a part in this project also.

4 out of 5 stars The second, and second-best, of the series.......2004-03-18

This was Guru's second Jazzmatazz project. I purchased this one back in the day solely on having loved the first one.

Jazzmatazz II is solid; not spectacular like the first one. It still has some jazz feel to it but not as much. It's more hip hop but it's still very chill and laidback.

I like the Jamiroquai song; funny to think that they were no-names back then before blowing up a few years later.

Very soulful, mellow, good late-nite listening.

5 out of 5 stars Simply.......Awesome.......2002-12-18

The best of the 3 jazzmatazzes. It is not nearly as jazz influenced as the 1st but absolutely the most complete of the 3. i love guru and Gangstarr. he is lyrically on point and every song is great. its deep and arranged well. This is one of my top 10 and top 5 hip hop albums in my mind. it takes a few listens to understand the complexity and integrity of this album. Completely original and very trippy when you get down to it. be patient and it will grow on you.

5 out of 5 stars The Fusion Continues.......2001-01-25

This album continues the fusion of jazz and hip-hop that GURU pushed in his previous release of Jazzmatazz. He stays away and ventures out from the conventional representation of hip-hop in the form of beat samples and often misguided beats. This is one of the most bold musical moves in hip-hop since Kool Herc did dj parties in the Bronx

Product Description

This program contains six guided meditations.

You hold the world together with your attention... When you shift your attention, the world collapses.

Since birth, you've been trained to see, hear and feel your world in alignment with the masses. While this may sometimes serve you, it also limits your power and ability. Whether you are aware of it or not, you expend a tremendous amount of energy to hold your current world model together. There are an unlimited number of other worlds and universes waiting to be accessed and explored. Cultivate this adventure by stepping into the "second attention."

Think about it: What are you missing? Is the world you call "real" truly all there is? You are not a physical being but a spiritual being--an infinite field of energy and possibility. All great traditions teach that you are created in the image and likeness of the Creative Source and that you have unique godlike capabilities.

With Collapse the World, you will not only learn what it is to amplify the power that lies beyond your physical self, you will experience:

* The 4 metaphysical elements that reside in you and your universe, as well as the mystical and supreme 5th element...

* How to access and initiate the etheric body...

* The 7 energy centers of the body and how to accelerate their power...

* How to step into your Divine Self and allow infinite energy to flow through you...

* How to use your Higher Council for guidance and direction...

* How to imprint your energy field to create and attract all you choose...

3 out of 5 stars It was ok if you've never heard a guided meditation cd before.......2007-06-24

This is the second course of JAR's I have bought.

The guidance at times is a bit vague and the benefit of doing whichever of the cds you choose for 30 days isnt really explained in practical terms. The word "invite" has to go! James has the concepts but needs to improve on the delivery. Playing with the etheric body is fun but whats it going to achieve?

After listening to Paul Scheele's guided meditations for so long I now think I've been spoilt.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Combination of Practices and Powerful Presence.......2007-04-04

When I assess whether to buy programs such as this, the questions I ask include the following. Can this offer an experience that is unique? Does the presenter has the power to provide a powerful presence that I can draw from during the exercises? Well, after reading the authors "Practical Spirituality" I gladly ordered, expecting that the answer to the preceeding questions are yes and yes. I was not dissapointed. Like his book, these CDs offer a powerful presence that a user can attune with, enjoy, and benefit from. There is no question about the fact that this author has the power to help practitioners have major advancements in their training. In addition, he says a few concise and useful pieces of information before the exercises. And, the exercises are very powerful and have the potential to have a substantial impact on people. Excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!.......2007-03-30

In wholehearted agreement with Jon Everist's comments! Bought several guided meditation programs and found them cheesy, hokey, with distracting music and unappealing voices. As guided meditations go, CTW is the most powerful I've experienced. Deepak's review suggests using Holosync which is a wonderful program too. I am a daily Holosync user for 2 years now, and use Collapse the World in addition. Perhaps there are better, less expensive programs (I look forward to finding them) but this is where the path has led me now and I am most appreciative to have found these tools.

3 out of 5 stars It's okay............2007-02-18

"collapse the world" requires your participation in the sense of focusing and visualizing. You have to be able to create a sense of expanding your body, opening your chakras and visualizing people who help you in your life, etc.
Simply, for me it is difficult because I have a hard time in focusing and imaginations. It comes to a point that I have to create the same or different ways of imaginating a particular part of the cd or else it feels old and boring to do again and I tend to lose interest.
There is a much better and easy way of meditating if you have to spend so much money on a program. I would suggest Holosync Meditation [you can purchase "Awakening Prologue" from Amazon.] In this meditation you only have to listen to the cd with headphones and the technology works on its own. You can think as much as you want and you don't really have to make up or do anything. This has worked for me and all of my friends in a very fantastic way.
"Collapse the world" may work for a lot of people but personally, I have stopped using it..

5 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2007-01-20

I dissagree with the person that rated this with 2 stars. This is several hours of incredibly potent guided meditations. This is not full of pointless music and useless visualization, it is really focused on altering your reality and putting you into the frame of mind where you can attract ANYTHING you want. If you have seen "The Secret", and understand the Law of Attraction, these meditations will give you amazing power to attract everything you need...it's worth every penny.

God truly endowed Pedro with a very special and rare gift. This CD is a mix of modern music mixed with traditional ethnic music played on traditional instruments with the new instruments as well. What an excellant blend of cultures you hear on this CD. You can sense each emotion that Pedro had when composing and performing these pieces. Each song is complex and a true joy to listen too. I loved the CD jacket. I was amazed at the wealth of information included.....just that was worth the price of the CD alone! Don't miss out!!!

      Album Description

dufus has been compared favorably and often to both Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band and to Frank Zappa, but also to Mr. Bungle & Ween, for whom they recently opened, and even to Modest Mouse side-project Ugly Casanova. And like these previous bands, within the music is a severe tension in constant jeopardy of hurtling out of control: aggressive & nurturing, chaotic & structured, solitary & social, and, of course, anti & folk—dufus is all these things. I once heard Suicide described as "dumb-genius" and while I felt the comment unfair it came close to describing the visceral content of Suicide. The same goes here. It is genius, yet there is something so pure about this album, something so subconscious that one gets the feeling it has arrived directly from the womb of some large and intricate beast.

      5 out of 5 stars Earfshattering.......2006-04-10

This album changed my life. Literally. "Donnah Mattr" convinced me to quit my 9-5 office job, pack up my things, and leave NYC to pursue my art somewhere out in the hills. I've never looked back...

All Music Guide said this album has the potential to change a young listener's life. I'm living proof it has.

      4 out of 5 stars thank goodness..........2004-12-20

      yes. thank you.
i'm so glad people still take the time to make original music. the market is so saturated with the same old thing it's hard to find "real" music out there. the business people, who are very good at what they do, are always going to take their money and be safe. why would they gamble on some lanky guy with a strange voice that dresses in yarn?
if you've found this record you're one of the lucky ones. keep listening until you find all pop radio for what it is: just another un-clever, unwanted commercial.
      hooray for dufus!

      4 out of 5 stars Dufus - '1:3:1' (Roir).......2004-10-17

Does Roir seem to release some fun music or what?It might be tough to describe Dufus's music.'1:3:1' features fourteen quite 'entertaining' tracks.I guess one MIGHT call '1:3:1' out-of-control,friendly,humorous,foward and a bit challenging. The best cuts are "Jahflooey",the witty "More Girl Cops",the acoustic, yet quirky "Deepr N Lov","Making Go Crazy/Real" and "Fire".Wanted to mention that there are also a couple of tunes here that are just down right strange,"Little Bitta Reggae" and "Wooden Ghost Stuff".Dufus is music for misfits and outcasts of the world today.Sounds sort of like maybe Frank Zappa(R.I.P.) with a couple of members of Gong backing him up.Should appeal to fans of Mothers Of Invention,Captain Beefheart and Ween.

5 out of 5 stars who does this thing?.......2004-02-02

I can not believe how deeply this album rocked me. It
was like all the questions in my life had come to a
breaking point, the dam busted, and dufus was the
flood which ensued. There are some people in this
world who are normal, some who are good, some who are
exceptional, and some who go beyond any expectation
you could ever have. Those are the people who get called
angels or saints or prophets of peace. These
people, whoever they are, they dont know the difference
between dream and reality, they have no idea what they
      are doing. it is amazing!

      Album Description

Frankie Knuckles "A New Reality" transpired as a reflection of his touring, and the transformation he felt post 9/11. The observations around the globe, peoples need to party & enjoy life, their need to escape, and also connect with other. Knuckles has taken that global information and created a mixture of house and soulful R&B. Knuckles brings back his team Engineer Dave Sussman along with arranger Danny Madden, programmers and Keyboard players Eric Kupper, Alex Schantez, and Peter "Ski" Schwartz for strings. Nicki Richards, known by superstars from Janet Jackson to Sting as the girl to get on backing vocals is featured on tracks such as "Matter of Time", "Journey", "I've Had Enough", "The Bumpkin Song (Gimme Gimme)".

1 out of 5 stars Love Frankie for decades, but this is really the worst..........2007-03-21

What happened, Frankie? When you produced this CD, did you forget the hooks, the vocals, the arrangements, the polish, the deep soul? This sounds nothing like the deep house Frankie I know and love - I kept skipping to the next and next and next track, until finally at the end arrives "I'VE HAD ENOUGH" - which is the lone OK vocal house track on here, but...wait for it...this is a lame remake of Frankie's OWN earlier mid-90s version of the same song originally sung by gospel diva DENETRIA CHAMP - now THAT was a stunning vocal house anthem. But this "new reality" is fake.

      5 out of 5 stars New Reality.......2006-08-28

Can we get a little church up in here!!!!!!!!! You want good dance music buy this album. 3 tracks that are a must are Journey- recommended for those whose nerves are being worked, Matter of Time- for those who are tired of being lonely and I've had Enough- for those who are just tired of the lies and cheating in general. Can I get a Amen Somebody!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars another 'must have' from Frankie!.......2004-05-26

simply put, your collection is incomplete until you add this CD. It is IMHO his best to date! the beat and the mood varies but is solid throughout. the music and vocals are hot. let's dance!

5 out of 5 stars A new classic from the Godfather of House.......2004-05-04

There's lots of dance music out there but nothing as well crafted as what this guy does. This is not a typical DJ mix, the album is varied in mood and styles. A must for your classic House collection. It was worth the wait Frankie!

It's an attractive sound that Canadians Bob D'Eith (piano, keyboards) and Paul Schmidt (classical guitar) have cobbled together as Mythos, supplementing their largely pastel instrumentation with stylish, subdued grooves and airy female vocalese. The result is an uncomplicated yet appealing brand of pop instrumental music that lies somewhere east of trip-hop and west of crossover classical, and at its best occasionally brings to mind the quieter instrumental passages once heard from 10cc, OMD, or Simple Minds. Mythos's sound (similar to Enigma, with less obtrusive vocal elements) is more New Age than pop-rock, and during a track such as "Vision I" the first image your mind's eye might conjure up is a mirror ball. Yet the overall vibe D'Eith and Schmidt create is a worthwhile variation on the New Age theme--mostly instrumentals (plus a concluding vocal track) that are energized yet still relaxing--compositions with a pulse, a heart, and just a hint of mystery. --Terry Wood

5 out of 5 stars Mythos has done it again!.......2005-07-30

Fabulous job on this album. I have their last one entitled "Mythos", and thoroughly enjoyed that one as well. I would recommend both to lovers of new-age music. As with their previous release, there is not one track on this album that I don't like. Just put it in and press play. Like their previous release, you will be in for a moving captivating otherwordly mysterious and touching journey into sound and emotion. Do yourself a favor and buy this and "Mythos-Mythos". A real treat.

3 out of 5 stars Mythos: The Crossroads of New Age.......2005-06-16

Mythos is unlike Era, Enigma, Enya, Lesiem or Delerium but stands on its own as a meeting place of a mixture of sounds that blend well in the background of whatever you are doing at the time you listen to this CD. I found this CD quite entertaining yet I didn't particularly find this CD distinguishing. This is Mythos' second offering and it isn't half bad and nor is it a CD you can write home about.
Pop, jazz, ethereal female vocalists and rather obscure trance themes are brought together and blended to create a passable listening experience. The two best songs of this album for me were 'Vision 1' and 'Requiem' - these two show that Mythos with time shows promise and that the music of Mythos is undertaking a major evolution that may take some years and releases to be revealed but I have a feeling we won't be disappointed.

2 out of 5 stars Wish it retained the eerieness.......2004-11-07

I originally bought this cd for track 2 "Kaleidoscope". The song was a brilliant mix of piano, guitar, drumbeat and airy female voice. The dissonant sound of it is eerie and enchanting, and helps your mind to soar.

However, the rest of the cd I only found mediocre. Never again throughout the remaining tracks was that certain dissonant sound to be captured again. Whether it was a fast track like "Requiem" or a slow one like "Solstice", I never felt as if the music was going anywhere - it just kind of goes on and on but never satisfies.

Perhaps it is my own fault for expecting the cd to be dark and mysterious based on one track. Instead of ethereal I found it to be generic.

        4 out of 5 stars A worthy sucessor, but a little disappointing.......2003-07-22

Let's get this out of the way first: I love Mythos. The debut CD was filled with enchanting, wordless, timeless melodies from start to finish; every track is 5-star in my book. From the haunting opening of Brazil to the last second of the last track, MYTHOS was an album that utterly captivated my senses.

Reality of a Dreamer is not that album. It is good, there is no doubt, and compared to the commercial music most people hear all day, it is an effortless work of art. However, it falls short of its predecessor. Gone are the haunting, memorable vocals (no words, just beautiful humming) of November, gone is the dark and mystical sound of Sunless Sea, gone is the beautiful solo guitar of La Cathedral...

Reality of a Dreamer is a worthy investment for the Mythos fan, however, its tracks are quite consistently of 4-star and not 5-star quality. Some are even rated 3 in my iTunes player, shocking coming from a huge fan of the duo (Venice is really THAT bad)... but overall, it's still a great disc. The sound is a little tired-sounding, the euphoric perfection of the first is not quite up to par in the second, and the melodies are a bit recycled... but it is still Mythos, and that means it is still good.

Favorite tracks include Alchemy (admittedly, it took me a while), Redemption, Requiem, the two Vision tracks (although I am upset by their use of two very old and very overused samples), and Fantasy. However, all too often I feel a bit anxious to skip past the overused "lalala" style singing, only used sparingly in the first track and seemingly overapplied on this album...

You know what's wrong with Reality of a Dreamer? It's too happy, too meaningless, too insipid almost. It's a great piece of work, but compared with the drama and power of MYTHOS, it comes off being almost bubblegum-y in comparison.

Listen to all the tracks, and decide if this is really what you want to hear. If you've never heard Mythos, buy their first CD, MYTHOS, first. If you have, I'm sure you'll enjoy parts or even all of this CD, but it would be hard to say that this is better than their first.

        4 out of 5 stars A bit of a departure...........2002-12-27

With the addition of some really wonderful vocals, this CD was a pleasant surprise. I would recommend it to any Mythos fan. This is a CD I like to listen to frequently, it really doesn't get old too quickly.
