4 out of 5 stars Let it grow on you........2005-05-07

This is definately not a dark DnB album. Those who are fans of that kind wouldn't really like this at first. I myself like dark DnB. Listen to this cd a good 3 or 4 times and you'll see theres a lot of thought put into it. This is a CD that will strongly grow on you, it did with me.

4 out of 5 stars nothing new, but so what, roni size is awesome.......2005-04-22

I agree with the detractors who say that this album is nothing new. I appreciate size's innovation and experimentation, I consider him to be the most important producer in dnb because he doesn't seem to get tied down by the semantics and nonsense that mire most purists in homogeneity and boredom. I would've loved another strange, experimental album following In the Mode, but i like roni size's music just as much as his innovation, and a solid 70 minutes of straight up top-quality DnB is nothing to complain about. Size is among the best producers of drum and bass regardless of how far from the norm he chooses to stray.

The cd is basically a dj set composed of all original tracks, and true to the nature of any dj set, besides a few standouts the tracks are mostly indistinct from one another. You have to listen to it as if it were a dj set, which is where it departs from traditional roni size territory. New Forms, like Goldie's Timeless, was primarily -not- a dancefloor record, and while In the Mode was more danceable it was presented in a pop album format. Touching Down however, sounds like it could've been recorded right off of a club PA system in Bristol. It's just straight beats, pure unadulterated drum and bass.

if you have musical ADD or are the sort of person that can't stand hearing something that was popular 6 months ago because its "so outdated" then skip this outdated and repetitive album and go buy Return to V since its out now. but if you actually enjoy dnb, then here is 70 minutes of some of the best dnb around

2 out of 5 stars Dont believe the hype.......2004-06-09

This album is nothing like Roni's last album: the beats and breaks here are completely repetitive. Listen to one song and you've basically listened to the whole album. No guest vocals either, nothing experimental or new. Just a plain album. A real let-down after his last album. The album had potential, but didn't fulfill my expectations. Get Aphrodite's last album instead. Much better.

5 out of 5 stars Drum n' Bass Isn't Dead.......2004-05-04

So where has drum n' bass gone? LTJ Bukem hasn't changed a whole lot. Goldie and Grooverider are the masters but nothing really new from them. Roni Size keeps chugging along. This album is a masterpiece. Darker and heavier than New Forms. I was on a search for fresh drum n' bass and my search has ended. Get this album and lets help keep drum n' bass alive. Goldie and Grooverider, lets hear some new stuff. It's not too late for the masters to take back their throne. For now, Roni is sitting there. Also check out the remix album to New Forms called Replica. It's a Japanese import, and well worth it.

1 out of 5 stars absolutely avoid this album.......2003-07-05

this is one of the worst album i've ever bought it's too heavy for my tastes, i prefere something like "new forms" or even "in the mode" but surely not this one.... i think the first two where very sperimental records and (above all the first record) where good cds but this one is cheap teeny music i think it will be a 15ers choice...when the kids will grow they'll tear apart this album for something better i hope!!!! (i gave it 1 star cuz you can't give 0 stars!!!)

4 out of 5 stars A great buy!!!.......2004-03-02

I thought dj rap's touching bass was a good album. I enjoyed the breaks cd a lot and didn't need a second listen to appreciate it. I do admit i had to listen to the drum and bass cd more to appreciate it but in the end i enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend this cd to anyone who is into new tunes and has cash to spend. Keep it up charissa!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars breaks CD rules, drum & bass CD is okay.......2003-11-16

I agree with the other reviews: the breaks CD is really awesome; I like it better than DJ Icey's latest, actually... More dark than funky.

The drum & bass CD is just okay. Tends towards hard.

3 out of 5 stars Studio Set Needs More Variety..........2003-09-22

DJ Rap's TOUCHING BASS was pretty good the first time I listened to it. I put the volume in the red, and the hi's-mid's-lo's at the usual d'n'b levels - LOW AND HARD. Needless to say, this double serving of DJ Rap's mixing hit me the way her sets usually do when I see her live. The 2nd cd of mostly breakbeats was a nice bonus as well - BREAKDANCE-A-LICIOUS!
HOWEVER, as I listened to it over & again, I noticed a slight lack of flavor with the 1st cd. D'n'B is DJ Rap's format definitely, but for a DJ set that's STUDIO and not live, she didn't bother exploring the vast variety of current artists' tracks that are out now - both old and new. It seemed she stuck to tracks that banged hard MERELY FOR THE NOTION OF SOUNDING HARDCORE( I.E. the accidental heros/Sonic&Silver trk's 4&5 clashing styles against the older skool Danny C & DJ Rap tracks ). The 1st cd lacked a bit of cohesion, thus the vibe I felt was energetic, but without soul - merely wasn't feeling the direction of the mix. I've heard her come better with the vibe. I suppose if you're into the more signature "industrial bassline" type mixes, this one's for you. I personally think that style is washed-up - years ago.
BOTTOM LINE - the 2nd cd is Breaks and is comparable to any DJ ICEY / BABY ANNE cd, BUT THE 1ST CD IS A MORE OR LESS BLAND DISPLAY OF THE D'N'B DJ'ing SHE IS RENOWNED FOR.

5 out of 5 stars touching bass.......2003-08-05

I bought this album on a whim, but it was one of the best purchases i ever made. this is a definate buy for everyone!

2 out of 5 stars This comes from the Queen of D&B?.......2003-08-05

Pesonally what I've heard here didn't do much for me at all, probably because I'm not really into this side of d&b. Propa Classics and Brave New World had much more solid tracks IMO and even those cd's I look at and wish she could have layed down something more artistic (or put in the representing remix with propa at least). Of course her mixing is great as always but what I'd really love to see her do is some more hard hitting techstep and all that. I don't know how many of you know who she is but she's been arround since the beginning of d&b itself practicly and in my mind holds equal to Grooverider, Goldie, Fabio, and all of them just for that and the fact that her live sets were tough as hell back in the day. Personally I know she can do a lot better than this selection wise and I'd love to see her throw down a mix with enough steel & concrete to challenge the likes of Dj 3D, Dieselboy, and Dara! I know she can do it and I'm sure there's a lot of d&bheads who'd buy it up in two seconds flat.

5 out of 5 stars A disc of haunting lyricism and energy.......1999-04-11

This disc brings together fascinating chamber music by one of the most wonderful composers of our time. Weir's music truly is full of wonder, and also the great gift of an immediately memorable sound-world - and from the smallest number of instruments.I have heard - and performed - hundreds of pieces of new music and, though there have been equals, none have been more compelling to me on first hearing (nor more satisfying to perform) than Distance and Enchantment and the other works on this disc.

4 out of 5 stars Great instrumental album with acoustic guitars.......2006-04-05

Might Could is an instrumental guitar group that combines the forces of three acoustic guitars and subtle bass work and writes songs characterized by high degrees of instrumental ability and rhythmic complexity. There are no vocals, no keyboards, no drums here. It's just acoustic guitars played by Andy Tillotson, Tim McCaskey and Aaron Geller. Luis Nasser from Sonus Umbra, another great progressive rock band from Maryland, appears on the CD as a guest and supplies bass assistance lending the album a somewhat Sonus Umbra air. His bass is extremely heavy, even when mixed low on the songs, often forcing me to draw comparisons between All Intertwined and Sonus Umbra's last album Spiritual Vertigo. Also the packaging of both albums is somewhat similar, the dark and bleak cover arts seem to complement each other.

Might Could's brand of acoustic songs are slightly reminiscent of early King Crimson stuff without any electric guitars and drumming. The three axeman in the band put forward tight, interlocking guitar parts with fast unplugged riffs, experimenting with various songwriting ideas. There is much diversity on this CD, ranging from the classically inspired pieces "The Miscommunication Suite", a multi-passaged number that embodies several movements and recurring melody themes. It feels like this song was recorded with a giant orchestra behind the band (except that the orchestra isn't playing but just enjoying these amazing musicians's work); it's got a very classical atmosphere throughout. The guitar 'chorus' of the song is amazing, as is the sweeping/tapping runout in the end. "Standoff" must be the most diverse cut - it features intense guitar playing that delves into dark landscapes, unafraid to borrow a slight blues edge in the solo department. The bass is amazing too - there is a memorable solo on "Lapse" right before the break where one of the acoustic guitars begins to play the same melody over and over again, while another one comes up with a sweet counterpoint melody to it.

More diversity is displayed on "Instability" which has traces of jazz elements that interwine with Nasser's expressive bass and the dark progressive rock number "Puijilittatuq". The apex of the album is "Not Every Songs Finds A Name", a song spanning eight minutes, and exemplifying Might Could's cohesive, well planned out songwriting attitude the best. The recording of the guitars is fabulous, as is the mix. Might Could is a very promising band with much more to offer in the coming years. Be sure to check All Intertwined out if you enjoy instrumental acoustic songs with plenty of progressive elements.
