Subliminal Sessions, Vol. 3

Once described as the gadfly of DJs, Morillo is a true clubworld chameleon, working under a slew of pseudonyms (Lil' Mo Ying Yang and RBM among them) while remixing everyone from Basement Jaxx to Enrique Iglesias(!). With all his personas in tow, as well as a reputation for sweating up dancefloors from Ibiza to Indiana, Morillo is just about worth this gargantuan three-disc house-trance marathon. Swift of hand and stuffed full of tricks, Morillo effortlessly provides a coat of funky warmth that lavishly covers the entire collection. But the secret ingredient, the one that lifts Subliminal Sessions Three above its immediate house-trance peers, is Morillo's indulgent, malevolent, leering hedonism. Indeed, when he drops Adam Beyer's sci-fi apocalypse "Remainings 3," then upshifts to the filthy, funk-laced "Glitterball" by FC Kahuna, it's obvious the man knows nasty fun. --Steffan Chirazi

3 out of 5 stars too bad.......2003-04-05

this is a let down from erick -- too commercial!!! if you like an quivalent of "top 40" in house/club music, then this cd is for you! my favorite out of three cds is #3 which is vocal and diva house. it's the only one that sounded fresh (and i am not a fan of vocal or diva house at all).

5 out of 5 stars Finally!.......2002-08-17

I've been a fan of house music for a long time and I've purchased mix's that have some good tracks, but haven't had much direction or energy. I'm excited to say that this one is worth the purchase. THis has a nice combination of those tracks you've heard and those that you haven't, but are happy you know have. Anyone who has purchased headers such as MOS or Euphoria and have been let down at times, buy this one. Erick never lets you down.

5 out of 5 stars Subliminal Sessions Three.......2002-08-07

What can I say? Typical Morillo, not for the johnny come-lately club head. Lots wont get it, but as a club head from the 80s, oh yeah, this one is smoking. As always Morillio Brings it on this one!!

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of the best mix cds i've heard.......2006-10-28

I love the song selections on this mix cd, I am a big Subliminal Records fan and this compilation hit home for me. I love the fact that unlike other mix cds, this one is geared more for the listener wanting lots of vocals and lots of great music to dance to.

1 out of 5 stars Another Subliminal Letdown.......2006-05-05

It is pretty safe to say at this point that Subliminal is pretty much tired out. The past few mixes have all been far below par and this one is no exception. The first CD is the better, and I actually could have gotten past the first tedious (Who Da Funk) song, The Night, and enjoyed most of the other selections. Then the final song, Jorge Jaramillo's own Ugly People Be Quiet, which is one of several later Subliminal tracks that feature a screaming female novelty vocal, this time hoarsly screaming out for 'Ugly People to Leave the Dancefloor!" among other things. Not only is the sentiment offensive (and not funny or even ironic) but having to hear it screamed out by what sounds like a meth addict that has been up for too many days makes it a hundred times worse. As far as I'm concerned it kills the mix, and shows just how misguided Subliminal has been of late. The second mix is just more of the same techy house that is nether danceable nor distincive - another Subliminal nail in the coffin that was once good House.
