Both singles are of a good choice.

Romantic Warriors!! Unusual work of Modern Talking........2002-04-19

This is truly a great album! I would give this album 4 out of 5 as I will that Dieter made a foolish decision by putting only one song a single! 'Don't Worry' and 'Romantic warrior' should have been singles of this album and 'Jet Airliner' doesn't compare to those two tracks! I don't know why he did this but 'Jet Airliner' is a good track but I feel it shouldn't have been a single. Modern Talking explores Rock with Disco and many tracks are also like Rock. 'Don't Worry' as a heavy metal guitar right at the end which is super and I feel in this song they have the highest pitched voice in their career. 4 out of 5 brings music to my ears!!!

A considerable change of style.......2001-02-27

Now this album, released in early 1987, is moderately O.K. The track 'Jet Airliner' shows a considerable change of Modern Talking's style. It isn't as good as the other featured singles of Modern Talking's 1980's era, but I would never call it bad. This track is more 'trance' oriented with a touch of 'Euro - disco'. The track 'Charlene' is also made of a similar style and it is good too. The best track of this album is 'Don't Worry'. The worst is 'Blinded By Your Love'. If you're very fond of 'rock' music, then the track 'You And Me' should be your choice for the best track. Also, the track 'Like A Hero', is without any percussions ! It is still the best ballad of this album. This just shows that Modern Talking is an evergreen band.

Album Description

Originally co-produced with Bill Nelson (& released in 1983), this record continues Numan's ambient-funk experimentations & has aged surprisingly well. The six bonus tracks include the single version of 'Sister Surprise', a previously unreleased full length version of 'Warriors', 'Poetry & Power', 'My Car Slides' (1), 'My Car Slides' (2), & 'Nameless & Forgotten'. a monster of an album , not a weak opus on it, the b-sides on it are excellent,my car slides 1&2 is gigantic.rhythm of the evening

"Age shows no kindness" but it does here........2003-06-02

First, I think the new cover looks sharp. For those fans who cannot handle change, don't worry. On the back side of the CD booklet is the original cover. All one has to do is turn it around. The booklet has a 5-page article, lyrics to all the tracks (save for "Nameless and Forgotten") including the B-sides, and photos of the 12" singles. The inside back of the case has photo disc for the "Warriors" single with the fighter jet. Like the other Beggars Banquet reissues, it has a photo of Numan on the spine of the case that looks so cool when stored away.

Musically, Warriors shows the direction Numan's music was to take on his Numa label. It was his most dance-oriented album to date with the female backing vocals and plenty of saxophone. I admit it is one of my least favorite Numan albums, although several songs are very pleasant ("The Iceman Comes", "Love Is Like Clock Law") and the title track is one of my favorite Numan tunes. Two versions of "Warriors" is offered on this release. As for the bonus tracks, they are not as good as the ones on Telekon, Dance, I Assassin, Berserker, etc. "My Car Slides Part 1" is a very nice slow number, though. For a killer version of "Poetry and Power", check out Gravity Kill's cover on the Gary Numan tribute CD Random. "Nameless and Forgotten" was an abandoned track which, lyrically, has elements that will find themselves on "Sister Surprise" and (the last part) on "This Is New Love" off Berserker. It is 5 minutes long and has an excellent bass beat with a lot of saxophone. To me, it is far better than just a filler track. If you already have Warriors but not this remastered issue, I recommend getting this one as it looks and sounds the best!

One of Gary's most underrated.......2003-02-27

Gary clashed mightily with co-producer Bill Nelson while making this record, but the result closed out Numan's Beggar's years on a high.

Warriors has aged extremely well, sounding far less dated than the Berserker, The Fury and Strange Charm albums that followed. The sound here is rich, textured and strangely organic. The addition of the unfinished "Nameless and Forgotten" (nice tacked-on name, Gary and Steve) is a great bonus for those who haven't already bought the album in its earlier CD double-album-set incarnation.

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with the other reviewer here who misses the high end on this remaster. I don't think I've heard the album sound this good before. My only quibble is more a question: Why re-design the cover? Sure, he looks a little silly on that tiny hill, but hey, it's a document of history. Nobody really thinks Gary's selling any albums based on his bleach-blond Mad Max look here, right?

Numan, Numan.......2003-02-26

'Sister Surprise' 'Poetry and Power' and 'Warriors' show Gary entering a new phase of his career (jazzy fusion), this is his last essential album.

deaf remastering.......2003-02-15

What a disappointment for the reissue of one of Numans' best disks'. I am not sure who was responsible for the re-mastering but they seem to have lost the high end (10k+). this disk sounds like an old cassette, I had to go back and EQ it myself to get the highs back. I wonder how this mistake could get past all of the ears for approval. I would give the disk 5* but the mastering takes it down to 3*

His music was original, while taking bits and pieces from traditional tunes. He really does not get the credit he deserves! I never imagined he meant for some of his songs to be played the way he played them.

Staggering Virtuosity!.......1998-12-20

Percy Grainger was a man of spectacular gifts. He was one of the most original composer/arrangers in the early part of this century. He was also a spectacular pianist in an age of spectacular pianists. This amazing CD documents Grainger's formidible gifts. It cannot be over-praised. Both the music and the performances are well worthy of any piano lover's attention. Don't miss this one!

Dull Lincolnshire.......2007-01-31

As a fan of Simon Rattle, I am sorry to say that this recording of Lincolnshire Posy is excruciatingly boring and dull. He doesnt follow the specific directions as stated in the score and the tempi at times is akin to a funeral procession. The musicians and their conductor sound as if they arent sure what to do without the strings present. It is not often that you find a recording of a professional symphony orchestra playing music written for band, but in this case, buy this recording only as a curiosity and nothing more.

Wayward Genius.......2005-08-06

What to make of Percy G. and his music? Actually, the man--piano virtuoso, maker of innovative musical instruments, ethnomusicologist, racist, anti-Semite, alleged sado-masochist--is more interesting to many people than is the music. And the music has just as much of a split personality as the man. The fascinating ballet "The Warriors" is surely more wildly Stravinskian in its use of polyrhythms and emphasis on the percussion section than any other music coming out of England when it was written (1916). Listen to the first movement of "In a Nutshell" from the same year, and you think that this must be the most perfect evocation of the sound of a gamelan orchestra by a Western composer: a fascinating bit of musical orientalism in the vein of Debussy, anticipating the Britten of "Prince of the Pagodas" by four decades or so. But stay tuned for the next movement, and you're in an Edwardian music hall. And we never do get back to the amazing mood of that forward-looking first movement.

There is the visionary "Train Music" (1901) written when Grainger was only 18. Then again, there is Grainger's greatest hit, the orchestral arrangement of his much earlier piano arrangement of "Country Gardens," a lollipop of a work he came to despise.

Probably the most successful music on this disc is "Lincolnshire Posy," a classic suite for military band given its premiere, of all places, in Milwaukee. It's a fine work in the tradition of Gustav Holst's wonderful band suites. But somehow, the regularity of this work doesn't hint at the wayward genius that Grainger evinces in the other large works on this CD.

Rattle and his band take Grainger very seriously, which you need to do in order to produce convincing results. And Grainger would be easy to patronize, but Rattle doesn't do that. Instead, he concentrates on capturing the extraordinary sense of orchestral color Grainger had. He's supported by the bright, wide-ranging sound that always seems to emerge from Birmingham's Symphony Hall. A fascinating disc that, I see, is no longer available from EMI. We can only hope they'll reissue it soon on their budget label.

For Peter Dawson Fans.......2001-08-16

This is an interesting CD, but is not for somebody buying their first Dawson record. The selections do not include many of his "greatest hits"; most of the songs are a little further down the rung, so to speak, though very well sung. Two of his best songs, "Sergeant Major on Parade" and "Floral Dance" are represented here by his first recording of them, not the later, more popular versions of those songs. It is interesting to compare them with their counterparts, though. If one has become a Dawson devotee, then this album is worth buying. Dawson is an acquired taste for an American, though. If you are not familar with Dawson's work, try another Dawson record first, and if you like it, you might get pleasure out of this collection.
