3 out of 5 stars Eh, it was alright...........2002-01-15

Okay the first time I heard RITM I was at this party in Dallas. I had never heard their stuff before and someone sticks this CD into the player. I was like Who is this?? I asked and was told who it was.
I didn't really care for this CD once I learned it was their remixes Vol 1. I feel that artist should do their own stuff instead of specializing in other's styles and work. At least do their own work first off, then do remixes after they've been out a while. Maybe the person at this party shouldn't have played a remix album by RITM and instead brought an album done by RITM. I've only heard a couple of songs that RITM has done on their own. They've become famous doing remixes, and that's all I hear about them now. "It's a RITM remix of BT's song or Oakenfold's song!" Blah blah.
I don't have a problem with remixes. Oakenfold, BT, Tiesto, Special DJ K, PVD, etc all of them had done their share of those. BUT these artists ACTUALLY HAVE THEIR OWN DANG ALBUMS TOO! They do their own work and try not to make money off other artist's work and style by mixing it up.
After this RITM CD was over with, I placed my C.M. "Vegas" cd into the player.
I just feel they should be doing their own stuff more often than not.

4 out of 5 stars Remixes worth getting.......2001-10-14

Though it's not an album this is nonetheless a much welcomed release from these highly rated electronic producers. A collection of remixes done by the Florida based electronic dance act Rabbit in the Moon of various artists work.

A good collection with highlights including the brilliant collaboration with Humate on 'East' and their stunning remix of Orbital's 'Are We Here?'.

Any fan of Rabbit in the Moon should have this along with dance music fans who want something a bit different.

3 out of 5 stars Tighten Up Vol. 1 (Remixes).......2006-12-21

I like "Hangin on a String" as it's the original version. The rest of the disc I rate as "passable." Three stars...

3 out of 5 stars Maybe I was expecting too much..........2006-02-21

This CD is just OK. Maybe I was expecting too much. The 'Slow Down' remix is cool. Nothing else really jumps out at you. It's like if this was playing in the background while you were shopping, you might not notice.

5 out of 5 stars The way R&B music should be.......2001-12-05

Despite my being of African descent, I have always had a huge problem with American R&B I find that too much of it just sounds the same, and really is boring. I just can't get down to it. I find British R&B much more enjoyable, and Loose Ends is one of the best groups of the genre. Jane Eugene was a real chanteuse and makes todays so called R&B "Divas" sound like yowling cats.

This is a remix of their hits and it is really well done and I find that I love to listen to it over and over, without getting bored. My favorite tracks are: Don't Be A Fool,OOH You Make Me Feel (a remix), Choose Me (a remix),Slow Down (a remix), Hangin On a String (orignal Remix).

This is a great CD, If only todays R&B artists would take a page from Loose Ends then I would have much more apprectiation for the genre.

    1 out of 5 stars Platinum re-worked.......2001-02-22

This Album is very interesting. For the die hard fans it has a few tracks but it re-works some tracks to bring new dimensions to some of the older tracks. Look out for Choose me and Gonna make you mine, they are real gems and guru's appearance on A little spice. "Give me a sunset evening in Central London, a convertible car, some open road and "A little spice"

Get this and quick. Probably the best introduction for the not so soul hearted.

    Carl,Steve,Jane - London Loves you

5 out of 5 stars The Magic Touch.......2000-06-21

U.K.'s finest, Loose Ends, is offered through this well compiled remix collection. This is fitting for those who are truly fans of an innovative act that help put British Soul of the 80s in a frenzy.

3 out of 5 stars Greatest Remixes, Vol. 1.......2007-03-19

A good overall collection from the C&C Music Factory. My disappointment was "Seduction - It takes two" remix. I'm having no luck in finding a version of the song that I actually like (except on the Seduction's album - where their version of "It takes two" is almost 45 seconds shorter that reported on the CD back-cover!). This collection rates three stars!

3 out of 5 stars It's what we danced to at the start of the 90's!.......2003-07-16

With "Two to Make It Right", "Clouds", "True Love", and "You Take My Breath Away" (featuring a surprisingly good lead from David Cole) as the standout tracks, the rest of this compilation is routine "retro disco" from the time period.

The pair is better represented on "Gonna Make You Sweat" and "The Ultimate C & C Music Factory".

5 out of 5 stars a must have for a old school mix collection.......1999-09-01

    Amazon.com

Subtlety does not exist in Fatboy Slim's world. The no-nonsense king of big beat has a job to do: get the party started right. The relentless musical hook is at the center of Greatest Remixes. Reggae and ska rhythms ("Magic Carpet Ride," "Get Up! Go Insane!"), R&B lines ("The World's Made Up of This and That," "What Is Kahuna?"), and acid-synth ("Roll the Dice") are all just grist for the groove mill. "Dubby Jointy" is the disc's wildest track. Backwards tape whooshes, a screaming guitar lick, and a crazed, creepy vocal part coalesce into an inspired version. The album's closer, a remix of "E.V.A." by Jean Jacques Perrey surprises. Fatboy knows enough not to mess too much with the 30-year-old song. The original--funky, loungy, and spacy--could have been recorded last week. --Fred Cisterna

3 out of 5 stars Yo check it out.......2001-04-06

Big beat brashness, funky disco and dopey sounds that test the capacity of your listening pleasure, even insane in the membrane people I suppose. This CD indicates a non-stop party must be going on in Fatboyslims magical mixing mind. "Mighty Dub Katz" is about as clever as it gets for a meshing of sound that is Cypress Hill meets the rude boyz. "Psychedeliasmith" is out there but fits nicely into the concrete jungle landscape, a heady blend of synths and loops. There are a few turkeys too. "Roll the Dice" does just that, I think it came up snake eyes.Sometimes repetition becomes just that, repetitive. On the flip side it works sometimes like on the standout "Deeds Plus Thoughts," nothing to think about here just enjoy the mad master mixer at work. There are plenty of non stop grooves but what fascinates is that one person can orchestrate and manipulate all the diverse and seemingly unrelated sounds into one coherent package. Not my favorite Fatboyslim CD but solid nonetheless. It is easy to see why he one of the most recognizeable mixers of all the gazillion out there. Recommended in small quanities unless you have a high tolerance for pain in the membrane.

4 out of 5 stars Average, but 3 tracks here are great.......2001-01-18

Most of this disc is mediocre. Fatboy Slim gives us a lot of mixes that are pretty good but not anything special, and when there's this many, we see the limitations in his style. However, three songs are simply incredible and really must be heard: Wildchild's "Renegade Master", Christopher Just's "I'm A Disco Dancer", and Underworld's "King of Snake". They all follow the Fatboy formula, but it seems like he does a much better job. These three are moments worthy of his best original productions. So this may not be a necessary purchase, but there are some great parts to it.

4 out of 5 stars Definately an "easy listen".......2000-05-09

As an avid Fatboy Slim fan, I can say that this CD isn't in the same style as his past couple CDs, but it's actually a little more laid back for an easy listen. It has some upbeat songs, and some smooth, almost instrumental songs. All in all, it makes a good driving CD or casual listening CD. I'm glad I bought it.

2 out of 5 stars If you like The Beastie Boys . . ........2000-05-09

OK, I am not a big Beastie Boys fan, and this album ("Greatest" Remixes) reminds me of their style - loud, brash, unmelodic, hardcore. I couldn't listen to two tracks in a row without popping out the CD. I would've given this CD only one star, but I realize that it might be suitable for some people who liked that "Insane in the Membrane" sound I thought we got rid of a few years ago. As a note, I do have and enjoy "The Norman Cook/Fatboy Collection" and "Live from the Big Beat Boutique." Both of those CDs have some variety. This one is just loud and brash all the way through.

2 out of 5 stars One of a long line of rehashes.......2000-05-01

I can't see anyone justify these as his greatest anything. His studio work clearly outshines most of the mixes here. There are no fewer than three Fatboy Slim collections released in the last year, including this one and Hip-O Records' "Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook Collection". Both strike me as minor-label attempts to make a quick buck on a big star. If you want a primer, get Better Living Through Technology. If you want a greatest-hits album, wait until he compiles one, rather than settling for this.

2 out of 5 stars Not for Telex Fans, but for Remix Fans.......2004-07-02

I am about as big a Telex fan as you will ever find anywhere. I have all of the original singles, maxi-singles and albums from the vinyl days of the late 70s and early 80s, and over time replaced the albums with the CD reissues. Being the Telex completist, I just had to have this remix album. Bad mistake.

"I Don't Like Music (Remix)" (12 tracks, 74 min.) take well known ("Moscow Discow", "Twist a St. Tropez") and not so well known ("I Don't Like Music" is the B side of a single) tracks and turn them over to various remixers. I'll be upfront about it: I am not into "house" or "techno" music, nor am I really into the "club" scene (underground or otherwise). Simply put, I have never heard of any of these remixers. I was quite disappointed with what I heard, because the songs sound absolutely nothing like the original Telex songs. It reminds me of some of the Depeche Mode remixes that I've heard, which also sound so far away from the original songs.

When Telex released maxi-singles, they contained "alternative" versions of the hit song. That meant generally a (much) longer version of the original song, perhaps with a new synthesizer solo or something like that. However on this remix album, mostly you wouldn't know these remixes are based on the originals if you didn't know better. I can't say whether these remixes make any sense or not, they just didn't appeal to me at all.

I guess I should have been more careful, but this album is certainly not geared towards the Telex fan as such, but rather to the fans of techno/house/remix music. Buyers beware...

3 out of 5 stars First volume of Detroit inspired remix revival.......2001-10-14

OK here we have some remixes from the cream of the worlds electronic producers (particularly Detroit) of a Belgian pop-disco band of the 70's and 80's. Now I know what you're thinking but let me allay your fears.

From Carl Craig's rework of 'Moskow Diskow' you know if you're into Detroit Techno, Chicago House or modern electronic dance in general, you won't be frightened of this album. In fact you'll probably love it!

Anthony Shakir's stunning remix of 'Raised by Snakes' is my personal fave, but elsewhere you will find great remixes by the likes of I:Cube, Ian O'Brien and Buckfunk 3000.

    5 out of 5 stars '80's originals get '90's facelift!.......1998-12-11

If you are currently into today's dance music, you certainly will appreciate the new interpretations of these old classics. Their biggest hit, "Moscow Diskow", is included here with two different, unique versions. Other notables are "Raised By Snakes","Twist A Saint Tropez" and "Eurovision". Being that I have known of these songs for years, makes it that much more enjoyable. If this not the case for you, it doesn't matter. Simply because you will find yourself dancing or moving in some form or fashion. In conclusion, of the numerous "re-mix albums" that have hit the market in the last 5 years, this is certainly an enjoyable one from beginning to end!

3 out of 5 stars Might be more fun in a club..........2006-03-30

It's good... but not great. I like St. Et remixes that one can toss on a compilation of one's own making or put in occasionally and have fun admiring the single artwork. And I like my remixes radical. :)

This single consists of the Eric Kupper radio, club and dub mix (both 8:17) the dj barringer club mix (7:59), lite mix and radio mix and the album version. The club mixes would certainly be fun to hear in a club (as if! in my small town) but are a little lifeless on headphones especially next to the original which has a lot of pure pop build and release. The remixes do have some tension and release but it's more Pet Shop Boys brand and not very Aphex Twin stylee.

You can sample and purchase this single on iTunes, btw.

And, being a designer, I have to say that the album art is pretty inferior for St. Et. It's got ALMOST a "kitsch" bad quality to it and I'd have gone with that if the designer had dropped some hint that it was tongue-in-cheek. But no... I think it's just a novice graphic designer. It's a shame too because the "Turnpike"-era illustrations are a lot of fun. Savoy Jazz, hire me!

So, let's hope that Vol. Two is more adventurous. Let's hope it is a version of Good Thing - the single that was SO very limited (by mistake) in the UK. Great show in San Fran, Feb. 2006!
