This is a collection of remixes for the hit single "Only This Moment" By Röyksopp from the underrated album "The Understanding" (GET IT!). Obviously if you didn't like that track, then you wouldn't like this.

I enjoyed the track greatly so it's no surprise that I checked out Amazon and Discogs to see if there were any CD-SINGLE's available for such a wonderful track. It led me to this CD and I have to say, I am glad that I found it. Out of the six tracks, I particularly enjoyed "Röyksopps Forsiktige Massasje", and "Chab Remix". These two are my favorite remixes out of all of them. "Röyksopps Hissige" is good as well, focusing more on the music rather than the vocals. You'll also enjoy "Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix" if you are into techno, it's much faster paced than the original. The only mix that I didn't enjoy was "Headman Remix" with its constant "OK OK" vocals and minimal instruments.

It's well worth it to pick up a copy seeing how it's pretty cheap on Amazon and eBay. I think this is a pretty solid CD-SINGLE and aside from the last track, I would unquestionably recommend it. If you are a fan of Röyksopp, the original track, good House and Electro music in general, you should get it now. 4 stars!

The first single from the new album by Röyksopp is nice but, had I known, I would have bought the album instead. Two of the three songs are from the album and the remix is not great.

The songs are:

1. Only This Moment - 3:42 - good song with vocals by Röyksopp, but no longer by Erlend Oye (Poor Leno, Remind Me). It still has some of the sounds typical of Röyksopp, but with a more pop orientation. In addition to the vocals of Röyksopp, they are beautiful female vocals by Kate Havnevik (sounding like Sheryl Deane in Thrillseekers' Synaesthesia). There is not a lot of music between the lyrics, so that you really feel the song is a radio edit.

2. Only This Moment (Röyksopp Hissige) - 6:17 - a heavy bubbling bassline was added, the variation in notes is good but at some point it is vividly repetitive and sounds like an experimental electronic song of the early 80s. The vocals start after 3:30; the female vocals have been withdrawn.

3. Sombre Detune - 4:52 - great song, but already on the album. The main bassline could easily have been on a Front 242 album in the period of "Geography", the music itself evokes Kraftwerk. The song is pretty dark and spacey.

The cd case is a jewel case.

Given its limited content compared to the album, this cd-single looks more like a promo release. Hence only three stars. A domestic release is scheduled by Astralwerks in August, hopefully it will include more songs.

A real good selection.......2006-04-27

Even if I don't own this CD (stuff I have on 33 rpm), I had to approve the other critics here. To know Barbara Cook is to participate to the Great Broadway Era with one of its essential star performer.
Cook was made for the stage and, following next, her live shows are quite impressive. Her voice can be tiny at times, but who doesn't get older?
Just listen to Glitter and be Gay: a Bernstein masterpiece, but a Cook personal creation. (Only Sumi Jo made it as good on her Carnegie Hall show).
All B'way fan should know Barbara Cook...

good overview of her broadway career.......2005-02-06

Before Barbara Cook became a cabaret performer, she was a fantastic Broadway star. This out of print cd focuses on the songs from her revivals and original productions with the omission of The Glass Harp. It goes chronologically from the beginning of her career with the shows Candide, Plain and Fancy, and Flahooley. (Sadly they were flops.) Then it reaches The Music Man where she finally became a star. Her Till There was You is marvelous. The last three songs are from her 1975 At Carnegie Hall album. I wish that this was replaced with numbers from her shows. It doesn't quite fit in with the phase. I guess this cd wanted to be an outlook on her career in general. Barbara Cook had a clear warm soprano. If only her 1958 album Songs of Perfect Propriety could be released.

A Broadway legend appreciated.......1999-07-02

Just to hear her voice intentionally break with emotion on "Dear Friend" will affect you deeply. This is a fine document of a great career and a stunning voice. You will treasure it.

You have sent an e-mail inviting me to give my opinion on this
item.I am sorry I cannot go over 2 stars as unfortunately there
is a defect on last track of the record, precisely on the song
"The last Rose of Summer".Anyhow I intend to buy other Deanna
Durbin's records as I enjoy very much her voice, but unfortunately the wallet is empty now.

Last Rose of Summer - flat and lifeless.......2004-09-16

This is a good CD only because of Deanna Durbin, but it is not a good CD for the following:

- It's stated right on the back of the jewel case that the source material used was "original 78 rpm records."
- The music is so compressed that there is no-longer any dynamic range left. I imagine the producers did this to eliminate any surface noise from the source material. But sense the source material was records you need to expect some surface noise, and to try and eliminate all of the surface noise is not good. Because the music becomes so compressed it starts to sound flat with no dynamic range at all. I understand these recordings are mono and not stereo, but there should be some amount of dynamic range to the sound. These recordings sound flat and lifeless.

Therefore, I do not recommend that you buy this CD look else where.

It's a nice Cd, but beware--it's twentieth century style orchestral settings of Christian hymns--no one signs on it in Finnish. Nice background music, but it wouldn't have to be called "Finnish hymns," since most of them are actually German or English.

A lot of crunchy-guitar rock bands will find a hook that works and keep it going and going, and after a while, every song on the CD sounds the same. Liquid Carousel avoids falling into that trap.

While the sound is consistently melodic and high-energy, with gorgeous harmonies, dreamy minor chords, and a powerful lead vocalist, each song also has its own character. We get the intelligent lyrics and musical headbanging of "Heading For the Stars." We get a funky, suggestive, slithery 70s groove undulating beneath "The Meaning Of." We get long, sweeping chords that create a majestic approach in "Concept of the Year." These guys are always thinking. They take their songwriting as seriously as their presentation.

They also seem to keep up their chops. This is tight, skilled musicianship. The music gets so wild and frenzied at times, it's hard to believe only four guys are creating this musical tornado without spinning out of control with it. I waited for fuzzy transitions, off-key warbling, missed beats, any sign of jumping the tracks. But this is solidly produced and performed rock music. It's raw and hungry rock that doesn't forget the melody. Fans of Pearl Jam will swoon.

My only suggestion is that I'd like to see the lyrics. They're not in the liner notes or on the web site. I got the feeling I was missing a message here and there. But that's a small criticism that can be easily fixed with their next offering. In the meantime, other rock musicians can use this CD as a lesson in how not to forget that musical discipline is just as important in hard rock as it is in classical and jazz music. Liquid Carousel can take lots of indie rock bands back to school.
