Very, very good album.......2005-02-08

I have been into downtempo for quite awhile now, and this album is definitely towards the top of my list. Tracks such as "Lalo Caught Me Dancin'" and "The End" are a great mix of jazzy instrumentation and a bit of electronic beats. Overall a great album, but with only 9 tracks, each one would have to be truly stellar for me to give it the full 5 stars.

If you dig this type of music, try some of these, you won't be disapointed: St. Germain's "Tourist" (still the album by which I compare any new downtempo disc I hear), Nightmares on Wax "Carboot Soul", Bonobo "Dial M for Monkey", Cinematic Orchestra, J. Boogie's "Dubtronic Science" (a bit more hip hop than these others), and Projections "Between Here & Now".

Well, it's easy to review a CD like this one...it's a FIVE STARS. No way to find something wrong, each song it's perfect.
Also the different female voices (Ladybird and Nicole Graham)are the best for this kind of music. For sure it's a jazz CD also if it's with a lot of influence, but i am not agree with the amzon suggestions that who is going to buy this album also buy : Gabin..(???), Groove Armada (???), Thievery Corporation (???), artists that i like but artists that are on other kind of music!
On the 9 songs i love very much : Novel Sound (a mystic prayer), Indigo Blues (smoking, drinking and never thinking..)and I cry (for dance and dance with smart music).
Yes, it's a FIVE STARS!

Better than you may think.......2002-12-27

I own several electro jazz and chill-out jazz compilations and for my taste no other can touch the sheer enjoyment I get every time I listen to this Llorca CD. While other complilations (like St. Germain - I own 3) are good, the songs on this particular album are more memorable and have achieved more of a "classic" status with me. What makes this album stand out is its smooth 'funk' feel and vocals. When I close my eyes I can truly see myself back in a Paris nightclub at 1am. Listen, close your eyes and see where it takes you...

My brother bought me New Comer for my birthday last year - and I've loved this cd ever since then. St Germain "Tourist" fans will also love this cd - I can't recommend it highly enough, and am starting to hear this disk everywhere - clubs, stores, bars. Llorca is coming to Victoria on June 21st - and I'll be there to see him! Cool grooves - mixing jazz, funk and electronica. Its already a classic, and I've turned on a few of my friends onto this talent already - and they're glad I did!

Michael Egbert has a mellifluous voice which complements the classics of Duke Ellington, Sting and Billy Joel. I especially love his recreation of "Summer, Highland Falls." Other than the original, there has never been a better sound to that song.

Michael Egbert is a new artist in that this is his first CD, but before putting out the CD he was very into music and studied it. His voice is smooth, the music good, and the whole CD on the whole leaves you feeling really relaxed and feeling good. This is one CD to buy. I might be slightly biased becuase he is my cousin, but this really is a good CD.

A CLASSIC OF THE GENRE..........2007-02-14

... every track's a winner, but this recording's obvious "climax" is "My Precious Thing"... the whole album plays like a seduction soundtrack that follows a path leading from the martini lounge to the early morning dawn... where you eventually awaken to find yourself at some sweet thing's downtown apartment, sinking into a soft feather bed surrounded by teddy bears, scented candles and walls adorned with art house posters, total estrogen overload... if only it wasn't for the 9-5 grind, you know this after-party could play out all day long.

It's rare to hear great grooves blended well with vocals, which is a wonderful combination in my opinion. If you're into just listening to intense mixed beats then this is not your album. It is jazzy, and catchy, and isn't tiring to listen to like many "electronica" groups.

i liked it ANY HOW..........2002-08-19

i really liked 2 tracks on this album, but thought the rest was a bit same ol', same ol'.

the standout track for me was ANY HOW. nice little 6 minute chilled housey track that reminds me of a nice relaxing sunday afternoon. i also used to like THE END, but have heard about 20 million remixes of it on the FCOMM label, and think that it should finally be put to rest.

Top notch CD.......2002-01-09

I initially came across Llorca through the Hed Kandi label "Chill" compilation series but this is not just chilling music it is music to really warm you up. I was unsure about buying this CD initially based on just the one track that I had heard "The End" but having listened to it I can honestly recommend this to the most discerning listener. Jazzy and groovy. The Jazzy label might put some people off but don't let it as that is just part of the theme to the music. It is sensual and entices the listener to really get down.

Go out and buy and I promise you won't be dissapointed.

Llorca's Novel Sound.......2001-08-16

After you listen first track on CD "The Novel Sound" you'll understand that Llorca has his own independent style, after you listen to "Indigo Blues" you'll say : "that's right Llorca has it". Then comes "I Cry" with Mandel Turner - priceless track,in my opinion best on this CD. There is also record called "My Precious Thing" Ft. Lady Bird, beautiful, beautiful song. Llorca has recorded incredible album - MUST HAVE CD.
