Customer Reviews:
If you weren't there you'll never know.......2006-11-06
I grew up in Stockton in the late 50's when the "Notes" were our band of record in the Central Valley. Hearing this album brought back so many great memories of following the Merced Blue Notes to Tracy, Lodi, Manteca, Oakdale, and best of all the Stockton Ballroom. You can hear glimpses of how they sounded live and if you listen closely how great the musicians were. If you are a fan of late 50's, early 60's blues/rock buy this album. Listen to "Whole lot of nothin" and picture a thousand or more kids on a dance floor having the time of their lives. It's just too bad no one recorded them live.
Great Collection.......2004-11-19
This CD represents the best works of the Merced Blue Notes. It is a slice of history that truly represents the music of the "American Graffiti" era. This band performed in the same area of California and during the same time period as depicted in the movie American Graffiti. From the ruff-edged, driving "Whole Lotta Nothing", to the polished, commercial "Bad, Bad Whiskey", this is the sound of the early 60's that central California danced to on Saturday nights. Highly recommended, not as great commercial work, but as a true picture of the time.
