Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars De Wunderbar.......2006-01-19

I was as surprised as the next person to find out this is a German ensemble, combining jazz and house music into an infectious set of rhythms, where Pat Appleton lends her far-ranging voice to the carefully orchestrated music, that draws on everything from late 50's jazz to James Bond. She can make herself sound like Billie Holiday on Cut the Jazz to Anita O'Day on Something Special. A great alternative to the usual House music, combining a much fuller range of music into the ultimate "Lounge" experience.

4 out of 5 stars Almost the perfect answer..........2005-11-18

De-Phazz's musical gems pop up in various compilations and are so distinctive and infectious that the inevitable question is "Where do I find more of this?" Problem is that, as their individual albums show, these guys are out on the erratic edge, mixing up latin, electronica/dance and jazz/hip-hop into something that's at best addictively super-cool and at worst completely over the top. But the good news is that this "Best of..." collection includes most of what you're probably looking for including the wonderfully funky "Hero Dead & Gone", "Godsdog" & "Heartfixer", the bizarrely brilliant Latin pastiches "The Mambo Craze" & "Something Special" and the quite stunning "Jazz Music", plus a great deal more. And the bad news? It's missing two of their very best tracks - "Jim the Jinn" (found on their "Death by Chocolate" CD) and "Riddim Wize" (from their "Plastic Love Memory" compilation of lost tracks & alternative takes) - which if you like what's here you'll also want. Almost the perfect answer... but unfortunately life ain't that easy.

5 out of 5 stars DE PHAZZ BEAUTIFULLY LOUD AND BOUNCING.......2005-11-04

The sound of De Phazz is unique. The German based outfit combines the bouncing sounds and vocal stylistics of jazz, with the electro beats and twings of the modern groove and house scenes. The unique sound of De Phazz is mainly due to this perfect marriage of these two smooth genres.

By employing the sounds of classic percussion and jazz instruments such as the trumpet and sax, De Phazz successfully create smooth electro-groove music with an unmissable swinging jazz theme. If your a fan of contemporary jazz, and dig the beats of groove, dub and house genres, De Phazz is a unique sound that you must check out.

This CD is a collection of the best De Phazz tracks from their first three albums. You get a CD packed with great De Phazz beats but it's hard to limit yourself to just this one CD. I was dissapointed not to see Havana Moon included as I'm a huge Latin jazz fan.

The bottom line is that this is a "Best Of" album and it delivers perfectly. I suggest that new comers to De Phazz begin with this collection and progress from there. This is a great album for any occasion, with both bouncy and relaxed beats.

The best of De Phazz gets five stars for it's unique and addictive electric-jazz sound. Death by Chocolate and Godsdog are highly recommended as follow-up purchases.

If you own the following CDs, you will adore the DE PHAZZ sound..

+Cafe De Flore V.1 & V.2

+Hotel Costes V.1-V.8

+Cafe Del Mar V.1-V.12

+Pink Martini "Sympathique" & "Hang On Little Tomato"

And any Latin jazz, French jazz and Electro-Groove Artists.

4 out of 5 stars One of these things is JUST like the other!.......2004-03-05

If you like the retro-vocal melancholy, jazzy, insular-yet-panoramic, lush, smoky-lounge, orchestral, strange, ecstatic, DJ-scratchy, sublime, sampled and genre-bending compostions of Art of Noise, The Matthew Herbert Big Band, Enzso, Funki Porcini, Yello, Caleb's Cosmosis, Hugh Marsh, Future Sound of London, United Future Organization or Bowery Electric, then you will love this.

It gets 4/5 because honestly, you'll get more cafeteria-style gratification out of buying their individual CDs.

'NUFF SAID.
