5 out of 5 stars Ich LEIBE es!!.......2006-04-16

I first heard this album a few months ago, & I'm still hooked. I still feel like I haven't gotten enough of it. I've heard many random And One songs, & have heard some albums online or heard sound samples. But so far, none of them grabbed me quite like this one did. I heard it online first, & luckily, found one copy at Tower Records... but I doubt it's very abundant in most American cd stores. This is addicting from anfang to ende... it's a solid album, I don't have to skip around at all. I also love their use of female vocals to enhances different parts of the songs. I agree with another reviewer... some of it is very reminiscent of "Panzermensch", which I love. It's more of a blend of synthpop & EBM, & not just synthpop. I don't miss them singing in English at all either... personally, I prefer their lyrics in German... it definitely suits them, esp. on this darker album. Added bonus, the liner notes have lyrics! Here's a song synopsis:

1. Kein Anfang - nice moody intro... you're not sure what this album's gonna be about just yet
2. Schwarz - if this doesn't get you dancing, I dunno what will!! I LOVE this one, mein Leibling. It seems to set the tone for the rest of the album. If you've heard some of their past material, it's different.. it's definitely darker than some of the poppier songs I've heard. It also has more Middle Eastern hints, like you heard on "Second Voice"
3. Krieger - DM influences here & there, esp. in the choruses; I just HAD to learn the lyrics to sing along to the choruses
4. Sternradio - picks up the pace & the feel; definitely to get your toes tapping; & more singable choruses
5. Speicherbar - the most DModey song on here, I think... more synthy, not as dancey as the prior 2; one of my favorites, & you can't resist singing along to the choruses either
6. Fehlschlag - more Middle Eastern influence; not as dancey, but still catchy; seems to be more focusdd on the lyrics, which I don't always remember what they mean for obvious reasons
7. Fur Immer - this was one of my favorites at first... beats hit harder, which is what I really like about it
8. Einstieg - instrumental filler that gets you ready for the next track...
9. Strafbomber - definitely the most aggressive track, & with the lyrical content, it's obvious why
10. Fernsehapparat - seems kinda strange on 1st listen, but still catchy; different singer, although it's not quite sung
11. Tote Tulpen - this song is soooo creepy & cool! I like it a lot, one of my favorites... you have to hear it for yourself & look at the lyrics
12. Kein Ende - seems to be more of an extended ending of the previous song; ends on a sour note

Overall, this is so addicting & good. I'm surprised my cd isn't all scratched up yet. I can't wait to hear more from them!!

4 out of 5 stars And One at their finest!.......2005-12-06

Aggressor is probably And One's most aggressive album to date, most EBM influenced and while present, least pop-oriented of their 10 studio albums since 1990. To boot, there's not a sappy ballad on the album (which is a first).

Aggressor is And One's first 100% deutsche album, apparently because Steve Naghavi refuses to sing in the language of the "Aggressor" (apparently George W. Bush). Even though I live in the U.S., I raise my hand and must declare I'm Swiss!!...

Favorite tracks include:
- Krieger
- Speicherbar
- Fur Immer
- Eistieg (to be listened with Strafbomber)
- Strafbomber (hard hitting ebm!)

Albeit - if you like good synth music or crave great ebm, then this is a must have!

5 out of 5 stars can't stop listening to it! addictive!.......2005-03-09

AND ONE is my favorite band!
I have listened to this CD so much, I now know the words to all of the songs, and they are in German.
I do not even speak German, however I have learned some German from this CD.
It is an addictive cd with it's catchy keyboards and head bobbing beats. I have often been embarassed by on lookers, watching me jam out to it in my car! I listen to it often while driving and jam to it while on the Interstate,
it is then that I imagine myself zooming down the Autobahn, singing along very loudly. I have all of And One's Cds, this one is my favorite!

4 out of 5 stars New (but classic) electro.......2005-02-15

I picked this one up on a whim, having been one of the many to be blown away by "Panzermensch" in the clubs. Although that track is not on this album, I figured it must be the same music....
Well. Not really.
What first struck me about And One is their derivative Depeche Mode-ish stylings -- except in German. Apparently this is a return to the stylings of their previous albums (pre-Virgin Superstar, the album Panzermensch is on)
Going between EBM and electro comes smoothly.
So in a nutshell:
1. Kein Anfang - A pretty generic beginning, reminding me a bit of NINny with the sounds they have chosen. It's only an intro, though, so it gets better!

2.  Schwarz - The first DM style synth bits sit over a nice 4x4 beat for the verses, only to pick up and go into one of the nicest choruses I've heard in electro in a long time, complete with choral backings... nice!

3.  Krieger - This IS Depeche Mode out of the gate! Think "Some Great Reward" era. A nice build up, complete with big piano/metal hits that reminded me absolutely of "Black Celebration"

4.  Sternradio - Probably my favorite track on the album. After a very 80s bass-line intro, the vocals come in, followed by some necessary electro-noises. Slowly the music builds up around the bass and vocals, culminating in a cool chorus that, to the best of my German, talks about winners, losers, singing in stereo and choirs. I don't know. Its in German, it sounds cool, and lyrics are overrated anyway! I only wish the "chipmunk" voice was not used in one part. It really makes it sound cheesy.

5.  Spicherbar - Classic EBM start, in the vein of Nitzer Ebb, except that there's singing, not chanting, happening here. Despite the start, the music weaves into a pop-song structure very quickly. It's one of the slower, nicer tracks on the album. More laid-back and easy, despite the re-emerging 16th note EBM-bass.

6.  Fehlschlag - Starting with a carnival-type sound, this track also builds into a verse replete with classic EBM sound-effects. The chorus, though, left something to be desired. The build-up bridge was cool, but once the vocals kicked in, it felt a bit generic compared to the interesting build-up.

7.  Fur Immer - This track gets closer to a more recognizable EBM styling, with less homage-de-DM. The lyrics are even sung in a more deep, growling style that is reminiscent less of crooning 80s synth-pop, and more of early German industrial acts.

8.  Einstieg - A musical interlude that serves as a break to lead us into...

9.  Strafbomber - Front 242 meets Front Line Assembly? This is industrial/EBM to a tee, and is the closest to Panzermensch we've seen so far. Only it does not have the same catchy hook. This one, I think, is here to appease the rivet-heads. Very hard, very dark, and very bouncy. Unfortunately not as memorable as the first half of the album.

10.  Fernsehapparat - hey. Someone else is singing. I really don't know enough about these guys to know who is who, but this guy's voice is higher and less, well, teutonic! This is continuing the EBM/industrial end of the spectrum, and almost reminded me of RevCo minus the super-hard Al J. guitars. Simple, straight ahead and formula, to be honest.

11.  Tote Tulpen - And we go right to the source, now, with a DAF inspired, super-basic, noisy electro-bleep track. Everything sounds metallic, and the music has been stripped down to basic beats and boings.

12.  Kein Ende - The outro. Almost like a horn band at the end of a long night. Just some random bits being played very slowly. A melancholy release.

5 out of 5 stars imagine Slayer being fronted by Shagrath.......2005-08-18

Nocturnal Breed sounds like Slayer's vocal duties were taken over by Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir. unlike Dimmu, Nocturnal Breed isn't very keyboard happy. however, Dimmu Borgir is still good. thrash fans, rejoice!

5 out of 5 stars Retro-Proto-Black Metal.......2004-08-03

For any fans of the Old Old School (Venom, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Sodom) this is a must hear. I'd highly recommend it to any fans of Usurper, as they have a similar take on Black Metal. It still has a lot of Rock n Roll elements (drinking songs...), the vocals aren't shrieked like most Norwegian bands, but this is a heavy listen none the less.

5 out of 5 stars NOCTURNAL BREED-Agressor.......1999-06-22

This cd is excellent!not only does it offer raw black metal it also offers the insperation of motorhead and many other older bands. If you like powerful agressive music you will like this cd!one of my personal favorites is the song tittled "alcoholic rites" and the covers of the classic "Death" song "evil dead".This is a must have!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars SPLENDEROUS HEAVY METAL.......1998-10-17

THIS ALBUM GIVES YOU A QUICK FLASHBACK TO THE GOOD OLD 80'S. A STUNNING ENERGY IS PUT IN TO THIS BAND , AND THIS YOU CAN TRULY HEAR . RAGING GUITAR RIFFS BLENDED WITH THE RAWEST VOCALS HEARD IN A LONG TIME. IT ALSO INCLUDES A COVER OF "DEATHS" EVIL DEAD , DONE IN A NECK BREAKING SPEED. THIS ALBUM IS SIMPLY A MUST FOR ANNY HEAVY METAL FAN OUT THERE. A CULT RELEASE, WORTH THE ATTENTION AND MONEY.

5 out of 5 stars album of the year.......2005-10-08

Velvet Cacoon play their own unique brand of black metal influenced music. The music is usually fast and hypnotic backed by drums that move like a racing heartbeat. When it isn't going fast, the music slows down to a sigh and ventures into clear channel bliss like the speed of fog(it can get slow which is good). The production sounds like it was recorded in a giant tank of water. It has a really clean, aquatic sound. I haven't heard a band that really sounds like this, though I think Filosefum era Burzum is somewhat similar in style they are two different bands. I strongly suggest you pick this up if you are into black metal like Burzum or Drudkh and even if you aren't.
