Trust It [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The prospect of a full length album from any DJ/producer whose singles have wreaked havoc on dance floors the world over always brings a fear that they won't be able to deliver a full hour designed to be listened to in its entirety. Junior Jack's album debut Trust It is more a collection of good dance records than the fluffy mess of electronic music that often results from the pressure to show a supposedly more creative side.

Ignoring the contrived intro and skits, if you like the big funky house of "Thrill Me" or "E Samba," the majority of this album will delight. Tunes like "Da Hype" and "Stupid Disco" are proper upfront anthems and the progressive "Do It" is like a rougher, funkier version of Thomas Bangalter's "Scratch." On occasion the jazz and Latin vibes are used a little too much, as with the meandering house that is "Alone"; it's not a bad track but it sounds a little dated compared to the rest of the album. The same applies to "Hola," which cynically sounds like it was made especially for an Ibizan terrace. A potential radio crossover hit is the summer-friendly "Luv 2 U," which mixes the serotonin-soaked disco of Roger Sanchez with a Marlena Shaw vocal sample.

Trust It is a good album of funky house with most tracks sounding good in a club but as a DJ wouldn't play all 14 songs back to back, it's unlikely that many listeners will either. --David Trueman

5 out of 5 stars Sluts are a must!.......2004-09-06

This band is a breath of fresh air admist all the "britney's" and "christina's" of the world (no offense)! The CD is absobloodlylutely marveulous. The music is completely original, the lyrics are quirky, and I hope the Sluts of Trust are here to stay. I COMPLETELY recommend this!

5 out of 5 stars Much, Much More..........2004-08-31

I have a problem, not something of any real consequence, mind, but an annoyance none the less. I find myself telling eveyone I meet about the Sluts of Trust, yet when one of my dearest friends asks to borrow my copy, I start growling and revert to my primitive defences, as if I were protecting my last living child, instead of a used CD. Oh and if they want to burn it, it's not pretty. Primatively, think of the meaning of 'burning' (pause). Yeah. Not to mention the fact that you would not be rendering the the proper dues to the artist. (you think I'm obbsessive of the CD? Look a little deeper.) So formally unbenouced,(as of two minutes ago) I proffess my love of the glorious Sluts of Trust, publicly. (a group of high school Sophomores aren't as public as it may seem) Needless to say I probably need another copy so I wont feel deprived while enlightening new sluts, as we all are, most are only in the deepest ignorance imaginable, while I'm drumming my two fore fingers to the various beats of 'Greatest Gift'. It's a vicious cycle.

5 out of 5 stars You wanted the best...........2004-07-19

Sluts of Trust are the best new band right now. They are totally original. Their songs like "Piece o You" and "Leave You Wanting More" are the best. They are full of hard rock riffs and memorable lyrics. They are confrontation and in your face. They are amazing live. It's a record to get. We are all sluts of trust.

5 out of 5 stars Best group out of Glasgow in years.......2004-05-27

I'm afraid I could hardly write a review to do the band justice. No matter what rock you like, you're more than likely to be hooked on to the Sluts, or at least intrigued by them. John's riffs are amazing; Anthony's beats are jaw dropping. Their raw tunes bring you back to your primitive roots and the combination of guitar, drums, and vocals are mind blowing. It's hard to believe that only two guys are making all of that noise. Sometimes the vocals are flawed, but it only adds to their unique quatlity that makes the Sluts such a gem.

Seeing them perform is like being in the presence of a guitar god accompanied by Jesus on the drums. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do. There is just no comparison for them. The Sluts of Trust is an uncommon duo, but that is what makes them wonderful. Get their first album while you can; these guys are going places.

5 out of 5 stars Alan Haynes is the most impressive guitarist I've heard live.......2003-11-20

Why doesn't Amazon have Alan Hayne's "Live at the Big Easy" album? I want to hear him by himself! I was in Austin for a conference, and accidentally wandered into Joe's Generic Bar on 6th Street, and was totally blown away by Alan Haynes! Apparently, he's better known in Europe than in his home country (the U.S.), and that's a real shame for us. I can't ever remember being so impressed, and I would have been just as impressed if he had been playing Carnegie Hall, and I had paid $50 for tickets.

5 out of 5 stars Not Much Better Than This.......2002-09-12

Jim Suhler is good but Alan Haynes is great!... Check out the Red Guitar he has, it was Stevie Ray's on the Albert King Record- IN Sessions. Alan has been playing since he was 8 years old and is tremendous. Buy this CD and go check him out at Joe's Generic Bar on 6th Street in Austin (every tuesday night!). He will rock your world!!

This boxed set is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a Purcell freak, this hits every button I have. The cast of characters include the inequitable Robert King, New College Choir, Bowman, and a host of other venerable persons. Likewise the attention to period performance of these works makes it an essential addition to the library of any serious anglophile/Musicologist etc. Now if only the Britten Realizations of all Purcell's songs could be recorded alongside the originals! You will Love this set!

4 out of 5 stars excellent sidestream house music.......2005-11-18

Don't expect junior jack to pump up the typical house album, but this collection is as danceable as any other. There seems to be a latino touch to the music. The build-ups in the tracks are awesome, and the basslines are as groovy as they can get.

4 out of 5 stars Full of hits.......2005-10-06

A great album from start to finish. Includes 4 dance hits: Thrill Me, E Samba, Da Hype (Original and with Robert Smith's Vocals) and Stupidisco. Junior Jack has put together many styles including House, Latin and Progressive. Anyway this album will definitely delight any lover of dance and house music. I sure do!

3 out of 5 stars House catching the freestyle flu.......2004-11-15

Junior Jack's been around for a bit now, crashing the UK regularly with tunes from this CD like "E Samba" and the wriggly hit "Stupidisco." This is house music for now, and what that means is light Latin percussion ("E Samba"), sexy horns and looped vocals ("Luv 2 U"), and that jingle-jangle that fills the floors ("Thrill Me"). JJ's a bit under the weather though, as where the CD lags is on tracks that sound like they've been co-produced by Latin freestyle purveyors, which if you're a New York guido, you'll probably love.

This CD is right in the middle of the road, not pushing any envelopes, and doing a good job of selecting the right beeps and whistles and vocal samples. It's good pre-party stuff. Shout to the goth crowd: there's a strangely good mix of "Da Hype" featuring vocals from Robert Smith from the Cure.

Honestly though, the best dance music this year (2004) came from rock artists (Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, The Futureheads, Interpol), so if you need a house music fix and you can't wait for the next Basement Jaxx, Junior Jack can fill in the gap.

4 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of Junior Jack's best.......2004-07-20

I've always been wary of the sink-or-swim world of The Artist Album. Oftentimes, I'll hear a great song by an artist in a club or on the radio, rush out to buy the album, only to find that the vast majority of the other tracks don't come close to matching the quality of the single. With Junior Jack already having several great tracks loaded in the chamber, and most of which are all featured within the first 20 minutes of the disc, I decided to take the dive.

Trust It wastes no time in getting down to business, and after a short intro, you're right in the middle of the album's title track, Trust It. The next two songs build upon the first, leading into this arc's crescendo, Stupidisco, one of the album's best and most energetic tracks.

From here, things swing into a more Latin groove, leading off with The Roots, and transitioning into my favorite song of this batch, Alone, which is simply fantastic... smooth, clean, and dreamy. Hola didn't leave much of an impression on me (although I do like the sax), and E Samba reminded me of Trust It, with the addition of a samba flair, so once again, passable.

The next song, Luv 2 U, is by far my favorite song on this disc, and I turned it up once the vocals kicked in. Dripping with euphoric, sexual energy, it reminds you of the fun and loveliness that comes with being with the one that sweeps you off your feet, whether it's on the dancefloor or in the bedroom. Positive, upbeat, and represents the kind of house music I enjoy the most.

Moving into more tech-house territory, Thrill Me is a song that's been used in many other mixes, and will no doubt remind you of mixes from the likes of DJ Dan or Carl Cox. I really didn't care for the next song Depression, which as the title suggests, is a dirty, dark song that doesn't sound right on this disc.

Do It takes you right back into Glaude/Cox territory, and is a solid track that can no doubt move a crowd. Must Be The Darkness also took me by surprise, seeming completely out of place here. Guess it shows Junior Jack's versatility, but it didn't really do much for me.

The final track, the vocal version of Da Hype, is a great way to end the CD. Featuring Robert Smith from The Cure (one of my favorite bands of the 80's), I'm still trying to get used to the idea of Robert Smith's voice being paired with music like this and the trance-heavy sound of Blank & Jones with the remake of The Cure's A Forest. Still, it works, and for those who grew up with Smith in the days of Boys Don't Cry, Just Like Heaven, Inbetween Days, etc., hearing him again is a treat in itself.

In closing, I think Junior Jack's Trust It hits the target more often than it misses, and is worth taking a listen to if you enjoy high-energy club anthems and the various tiers of music that define the house sound.

5 out of 5 stars The Album Of The Year????.......2004-07-20

It may just look that way. Finally, the most anticipated dance album makes it's debut states side after enjoying much success in Europe. Trust It contains dance anthems that have already made Junior Jack a force to be reckon with. E Sambe, Stupid Disco (...), and of course Da Hype. Finally an album that may bring house music to the mainstream and just may in fact enjoy chart success in America. This album works on so many levels. It actually makes you want to go out and become a DJ just so you can share this album with as many people as you can because it's just that good. I had to give this album 5 out 5 because it is a flawless album and if you disagree then so be it. I can only say so much about this album and how great it is. You'll just have to buy it yourself and hear what I'm talking about.

      5 out of 5 stars Compilation release.......2005-11-24

This release is a remastering of the two previous releases: Sweet Power of Song and On Wings of Song. Both original CDs are still available if you hunt for them. The original releases do have the texts included in the booklets (lamented by a previous reviewer of this compilation release). The lack of text is not a problem for me. I just listen to these incredible singers. I don't need to read what they are singing.

If you even slightly enjoy listening to the soprano voice, you will love these two luscious singers. Soprano duets are among my favorite classical music selections. Lott's clear, strong voice rings with authority and joy. Murray provides perfect harmony and occasional counterpoint.

I prefer the first disk (Sweet Power of Song) because it is more balanced and seems to represent the sopranos' favorite selections. However, disk 2 (On Wings of Song) has Rossini's delightful Cat Duet which is worth the price of both CDs as performed by this amazing duo.

Whether you buy this compilation set or the individual releases, I promise that you will love them and keep them near your player all the time.

4 out of 5 stars Text Translations Please!.......2002-01-11

Musically, I give this double CD set 5 stars. I love the warm soprano of Felicity Lott and the beautiful mezzo of Ann Murray. They always are a pleasure to listen to, each on their own, and together, they make music that is, more than simply beautiful and technically impeccable, but truly a joy to listen to. It adds so much to musical enjoyment to understand what the lyrics are, however, so rather than buying this double CD set, for which the text translations have been stingily omitted by the label, I would recommend buying each of them separately. I bought this CD set not realizing that one of the two CDS is one that I had bought previously, and been enjoying for many years. It is entitled "On Wings of Song" and the texts and the translations are all included. I highly recommend buying it. I don't know under what title the other CD might have been released. If you are so fluent in foreign languages that the lack of translation does not bother you, then I would highly recommend this CD.
