5 out of 5 stars Great Intro CD.......2007-02-16

I've became familiar with Clara Hill via Jazzanova, my favorite nujazz/brokenbeat group. Both Jazzanova and Clara Hill are based in Germany. This is good music you will never hear on mainstream American radio. It's positive and I dig the vibes. I look forward to more from Jazzanova and Clara Hill

4 out of 5 stars A little bird told me..........2005-06-09

I was on a road trip with some friends when I heard this playing in the car. My friend said, "I cant believe you havent heard of her!" Well, I hadnt, but I'm glad I did. The beats on this album are addictive, and Clara's voice is soothing and stimulating at the same time. I love the entire cd, but some of my faves (that get the most play on the iPod)are:

That Easy
Silent Distance
Here
I'm There
Morning Star

This is a great cd to listen to on a road trip (which I'm always on). I have also dug into her cuts with Jazzanova (who I love). This cd isnt so much a lounge cd as say Aya, but its a fantastic solo debut. Hard to categorize, but I wouldnt want to.

POSTSCRIPT: I meant to give it five stars but wasnt paying attention. This is a five star cd.

5 out of 5 stars Delicious to the ears!.......2005-03-22

Glad she stepped out onto the stage and put her own project out. I was familiar with her through her work with Jazznova...but I didn't think, she'd make a project this superior. Just put it on and let the CD play...and I guarantee people will ask you who it is playing in the background. Never fails!

Excellent flow on this CD. You want some company to chill out or take a nice long ride to no where with, play this. If you want to take a leisurely bath and light some candles, but don't really want to put on something that will make you nod off..well this CD is hip enough to keep you awake, yet chilled enough to relax you.

5 out of 5 stars This Cd came from nowhere!!!!!.......2004-07-13

Wow!!!! If you are into nu-jazz, nu-soul, broken beat, what have you, this cd has it. Ms. Hill creates atmosphere, and boy is there alot of atmosphere here. If your likes consist of The Rurals, Micatone, Beady Belle, or anything Sonar Kollektiv then this will be your cup of tea. Glad to see other people from Chicago into Clara.

5 out of 5 stars easily my album of the year.......2004-07-07

Behind every great band should stand a great woman. It stands to reason then, that behind these six cats who make up the broken-beat-nujazz masters Jazzanova there would be six great women. However, in the case of Clara Hill it only takes one woman stepping to the forefront to even up the creative power between the sexes. Her name shouldn't be new to any fan of Jazzanova. She appeared on Jazzanova's "In Between" album as the vocalist on "No Use". Now she steps out from behind the scene with executive producers Jazzanova, for her full-length debut, "Restless Times". This CD is on constant rotation in my CD collection. Electronic and Nujazz headz, run and grab this one quickly.

Though he'll probably be remembered best for his short stint with the Replacements, Slim Dunlap is one of the last great bar warriors, a true American guitar slinger. His second solo outing mixes one part Tom Waits, two parts country jangle, and three hits of the blues with a lot of secondhand smoke. From the album's roots-rock opener, "Not Yet / Ain't No Fair (In a Rock 'n' Roll Love Affair)," to its beautiful Replacements influenced title track, it continually dodges the predictable. The album turns country when it should turn blues. It turns blues when it should turn rock, and just when you think that it's all going to fall apart, Slim dips into his guitar case for something unpredictable and absolutely indescribable. Sadly, the album's lyrics generally run from weak to predictable, but it still remains one of the few discs that can bring the bar into your living room. --Bill Snyder

4 out of 5 stars why do I keep listening to this CD.......2001-05-05

He can't sing very well( I can sing along and feel like Bing Crosby's cousin).....The quality of the music is fine but nothing memorable.....it never seems to leave my play rotation.....I guess it must be a pretty good cd

4 out of 5 stars Great disc; nobody is cooler than slim.......1999-01-16

Times Like This oscillates from quirky to great, with mostly the latter. Ignore the sound bytes, the best songs are the sleepers. I'll say one thing; this man has soul, and his music fabulously shows it. A definite buy if you're an ex mats buff, or just want a great twist on pop/folk/blues in an atmosphere you wont' find elsewhere. Buy it.
