The artist behind Facing Future, the top-selling Hawaiian album of all time, the late Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole was possessed of a voice so sweet, so tender, and so lovely that it continues to deeply stir those who hear it long after he died. Lovingly assembled and notated by producer Jon de Mello, Alone in IZ World is comprised of both alternate versions of Kamakawio'ole's best-loved songs as well as tracks never before heard by the public. The latter category includes versions of "Hanohano No Na Cowboy," the playfully incomplete opening on "Mona Lisa," and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," on which IZ takes a rare turn at harmonizing with himself. In light of his premature passing, devastatingly beautiful alternate cuts of "Starting All Over Again" and "In This Life" are especially poignant. And "Over the Rainbow"--IZ's renditions were heard in Meet Joe Black and Finding Forrester--may never again sound so pure. --Paige La GroneAlbum Description

The best album yet........2007-07-28
Decent - Some songs superior and strong, others forgettable.......2007-07-18
Perhaps I'm being too critical, and that song to me is a 15 on a 10 scale and should not hold a bias for me when judging the rest of the songs on this album. The problem is that some of the songs don't have much of a connection with me, instrumentally or lyrically. At times I enjoy the edgy guitar riffs but for the most part I felt like a lot of these songs just float by instead of reaching out and grabbing me like "Saturdays" did. The song "Well enough Alone" is memorable as its razor sharp opening leads into some emotional singing, and again I am excited in hoping there are more on the album like it.
Then I started giving it time to grow on me, and it did. The song "Humanoid" has some great changeups with regards to varying riffs and also a song that seemed to stick with me at its very first listen. The song "Paint the Seconds" is stoic at times and although the riffs on this particular song seem to be too familiar in connection with other songs on the album, the chorus has a great crescendo to it that makes it different enough to add to the overall driving power it has. The song "I get it" is also very likable and puts the songwriting and vocals a bit more in the forefront, including an infectious beat found throughout.
Chevelle has managed to stay visible on the front lines of new rock bands that have emerged in this decade among the remnants of a "rock" industry that is always trying to find a new identity, but all too often having its poster child fall off a cliff as the assembly line pushes forward, not heeding that the bridge is out ahead. There is still enough talent within these guys to blaze new trails and I look forward to their next release, while continuing to enjoy albums in their past discography.
Nothing short of awesome!.......2007-07-16
As anyone should have expected the new Chevelle cd is perfect. Yeah, they lost a member (brother). But the member (brother-in-law) is such a perfect fit that I doubt anybody even notices. As long as Chevelle keeps pumping out the great cd's that they have been, I foresee another great band. Go ahead & purchase this cd, you will not be let down.
"Take a ride in the new Chevelle!" (possibly the dumbest review title possible).......2007-07-13
Confident yet not lazy in their niche in today's rock scene, Chevelle has a satisfying 3rd major label LP with Vena Sera. You think Pete Loeffler has run out of fingers to point? You think wrong. He, brother Sam, and brother-in-law Dean have yet to run out of ways to manipulate their signature booming, detuned sound to condemn the masses and sell rock records that stand head and shoulders above their contemporaries in their intensity and quality songwriting.
Unlike parts of TTOT, this record proves easily listenable from beginning to end. The middle offers the most intense and creative songs. "Straight Jacket Fashion" manages to switch with fluidity between a punk beat and their oft-reliable and smooth ¾ groove, the place the song comes in for its landing. "The Fad" and "Humanoid" are the darkest cuts on the album, the latter employing an old-school rhythm and turning it into a blistering hook reminiscent of a quicker "Family System". Second single "I Get It" deserves a mention as well for its prominent acoustic guitar (believe it or not) in the verses and its seething, sarcastic tone throughout.
Don't think you're going to gain any new insights into the meaning of the songs nor who the arrows are aimed at - just like the past records, Pete's lyrics are inscrutable. Even so, you have to admit that he manages to create some of the catchiest choruses in radio rock, even if you have little idea who he's pissed at. It's actually rather nice, especially in Chevelle's genre, to have some mystery in the meanings of the songs. (And isn't that the point of art anyway, to interpret it for yourself?)
Critics have always come down on Chevelle either for Tool/Helmet imitation or just for lack of deviation from the nu-metal masses. While Vena Sera is not likely to silence the critics, those who do "get it" should be very pleased...Chevelle at least is not trying to break into the Top 40 like other rock bands going through identity crises.

From the start of his intermittent side career as a jazz pianist, esteemed conductor and composer Andre Previn has shown more feeling for the form than most classical artists who cross over. Going beyond a recreational involvement in improvised music, he has deepened his playing since skimming stylistic surfaces on his bestselling My Fair Lady album of nearly 50 years ago. Now 78, he gives us what may be his most satisfying jazz recording in Alone: Ballads for Solo Piano. The solo format allows him to reflect his debt to piano masters including Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, and Bud Powell in ways his work with trios and combos hasn't, while showing off his super-refined lyrical touch with its sophisticated sense of color. With its scampering stride touches, "What is This Thing Called Love" is the most upbeat of ballads, while "I Can't Get Started" is given a more gentle awakening. With the exception of "Darkest Before the Dawn," an obscure tune Previn wrote with Johnny Mercer for the British musical The Good Companions, the album touches familiar bases: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Rogers & Hart, Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, Hoagy Carmichael. But invested with personal meaning, this is no typical standards survey. It lives up to the challenge of making your hear these songs in a new light. --Lloyd SachsCustomer Reviews:

Album Description
All sharp hooks and hefty beats, We Are Not Alone starts off with the Middle Eastern melody of the roaring lead single "So Cold," a riff-heavy track that showcases the fretwork of guitarist Aaron Fink, an expressive guitarist with a flair for both color and crunch. Employing a palette of quirky pedal effects, distorted textures and throttled power chords, he amplifies the emotion in each song, be it the confrontational rage in "Believe" or the sweeping emotional plea of "Break My Fall." "Aaron really stepped up on this record," says vocalist/guitarist Ben Burnely. "He's not so much a riff guy as someone who creates atmosphere. His talents really shine through here." The perfectly paced album is anchored by the propelling rhythms of drums and bass as well as being driven by Burnley, who brings each melody to life with a voice that's both graceful ("Rain") and Godzillian ("Away"). He soars over the mile-high chorus of "Follow," delivering the insistent hook with unbridled passion and grit. "Touring helped develop my singing ability and allowed me to try new things on this record," he says. "It gave me a sense of confidence that was really liberating." The band credit producer David Bendeth for the album's adventurous spirit, saying that he encouraged them to reach higher by digging deeper. "David has a great ear and helped pull better performances out of us," says Fink. "He also added a lot of flavor to the record. Unlike the first album, which was all bass, drums and guitar, this record is filled with all sorts of tasty ear candy. It's definitely headphones-worthy."Customer Reviews:

In the wake of 2005's Modern Day Drifter, Dierks Bentley has maintained fierce career momentum, earning awards, packing concerts, and joining the Grand Ole Opry in the space of just over a year. As before, he continues to flawlessly integrate straight-ahead, unforced vocals into a riproaring sound, underpinned this time by the solid, appealing mainstream acoustic bluegrass of touring partners the Grascals. The opening track, "Every Mile a Memory," defines the album's direction, buttressed by the witty "That Don't Make It Easy Loving Me." He projects clarity and desperation on "Trying to Stop Your Leaving," enhanced by an understated, yet appropriately tense arrangement. "Band of Brothers" celebrates the quintessential travails of musicians playing the low end of the honky-tonk circuit, while his all-inclusive, courageous views on "The Heaven I'm Headed To" may not please hardcore red-staters. The perpetual debate pitting country modernists against traditionalists often reaches the same levels of intensity as in current politics. Long Trip Alone demonstrates the smartest solution: quality modern country of the moment that simultaneously honors its past. --Rich KienzleCustomer Reviews:

The great irony of John Barry's Academy Award-winning score for Out of Africa (which also took the Oscar as Best Picture) is that it almost never was; director Sydney Pollack had originally envisioned the film with native African music, going as far as laying the indigenous score down as he was editing. But the weight of John Barry's arguments--not to mention his considerable track record and composing gifts--held sway, and the composer delivered on his intent: a lush, romantic masterpiece for the ages. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

I was puzzled to learn that some time between my buying the LP record and the issuing of this CD, the track "The Music of Goodbye (love theme from Out of Africa)" was omitted. It's not that this song, sung by Melissa Manchester, is a must-have; it's more that it's sneaky to leave off tracks when you reissue a soundtrack in another format.

Used To The POP vibe and got a ROCK treat!.......2007-07-19
"Hiding Behind The Face" is a country-esque ballad. All of those 'look in the mirror' and "see" yourself type tracks, if you are looking for that, then this is it! Basically, to see yourself for what you are, not just whats on the surface. "Calling Out Your Name" finds our starlet, thinking about that special love, whether he is in her life or not is irrelevant, because there is a part of him that she still holds in her heart. "Mind Candy" goes back to that country vibe. This cut here, is for all you dreamers out there, thinking about that person you are in love with and he/she doesn't even know it.
"Anyone But Me" is a great ballad, about being true to yourself, no matter what people think, especially the media, she gets many opinions, to change her and she reject them all and she now knows to just be the best 'you', you can be! "Streets Of Gold" is old school rock, I mean, Desperado from the Eagles was awesome right, well think of a contemporary version of that and this would be it, Tiffany did an awesome job with this one! Very dark, very prolific. "This Love" sort of goes back to that poetic rock vibe think The Doors, Jim Carroll, that sort of thing, maybe she has some skeletons in her closet with this one, LOL, but don't we all.
"Winter's Over" sees a relationship ending, but there is more nostalgia and heartache in this piece. It is brilliantly written and some would call it a tear jerker, don't believe me, turn out the lights, close your eyes, and listen to the words. "I Will Not Breakdown" finds her going down that road to self preservation. So many trials, so many mountains to climb, it is easy to lose your way, just keep looking ahead and the past will push you along. Amen to that sister!
All in all this is a good CD, I mean, all pop icons mature and all of them have a story to tell and I feel that this one is Tiffany's story, have a listen, you wont be sorry.

Tiffany Comes Back and Really Lays Out A Musical Collection!.......2007-06-28
These are my favorite songs:
Winter's Over
Just Me
Feels Like Love
Streets Of Gold
Hiding Behind The Face is a pretty good song, as well as Calling Out Your Name. Mind Candy is a fun song to hear Tiffany sing. And, of course, I Will Not Breakdown from her CD Color Of Silence (2000) is good to hear once again.
My least favorites are:
Be Alright
This Love
Anyone But Me
Overall, this CD is amazing! I have always loved Tiffany's music. This is yet another impressive and well-written CD and I hope that Tiffany continues writing songs and selling records in the future.
Hold An Old Friends Hand.......2007-06-25
Her leadoff single is "Feels Like Love" which is a pretty simplistic melody but with Tiffany's voice she breathes such life into the song. You will be humming and singing it in no time.
Every song just falls into place on this set offering a different glimpse into Tiffany's life right now. Each song offers something different and the lyrics are raw and the hooks are very melodic and radio friendly at the same time. For such an underrated artist Tiffany just keeps coming out with CD after CD and pleases her fans everywhere. `Just Me' is no exception to that rule - it's a very personal CD with a lot of emotion in every song.
Check these out:
"Just Me"
"Hiding Behind the Face"
"Mind Candy" - more of a rock edge to it. A really great song.
"Winter's Over" - genius
A great CD from start to finish. I highly recommend it!!
A terrific pop/rock CD! Tiffany keeps getting better and better!.......2007-06-11
The album's single "Feels Like Love" is a rather misleading track. It's kind of light and fluffy, more along the lines of what people who are familiar with Tiffany's '80s albums would expect. But the album gets more complex from there. Sure, there are love songs. But there are also songs filled with self-examination -- and there's even a highly moving song about homelessness.
The song "Just Me" is nothing short of an anthem. I hum along to it, and I feel better about myself. It's just very uplifting. Most of these songs are. I am also a huge fan of the songs "Hiding Behind The Face" and "Calling Out Your name" -- great rock and roll. But all the songs here are gems. Not a stinker in the bunch. And to the reviewer who did not like "Anyone But Me", are you serious? That is a kickass track!! And it has a powerful message!
All in all, this is a thoroughly satisfying musical experience. I expected it to be good, but I was not prepared for how delicious a collection this is. I recommend this, even to people who are not familiar with Tiffany's other recent work. Oh, and buy "Color of Silence" if you don't have it. That is Tiffany's best album. But this one is a close second!

But let me back up a bit. I knew I would love this OST more than the first one when I slipped it into the CD player in my car and Cyberbird almost ruptured my eardrums. Unbeknownst to me, the volume was up too high and I didn't turn it down until a cop looked at me funny. I think he liked what he heard but was afraid to admit it.
There are seventeen tracks. Each one is different. From techno to electronica to jazz to pop to funk to a lovely ballad titled I Do. There's a little bit of everything, which is just the way I like my music. If you own Vol. 1 you should add this one to your collection.
