Great Collection; Beautiful Piano.......2005-09-09

BEGINNINGS by Fernando Ortega is a 2 cd set featuring selections of some of the "early" recordings of this great pianist primarily drawn from four albums: Meditations of the Heart, Meditations of the Heart Encore, Hymns and Meditations, and Night of Your Return. While many of these cds are available for purchase online, it is nearly impossible to find them in your typical Christian music store.

Of the thirty-four songs on the album, seventeen are instrumental.

Songs from Meditations of the Heart include: Sacrifice of Praise, Living Water, Morning Star, Family, I Love To Praise Your Name, and As For Us. (Six of the ten songs on the album)

Songs from Meditations of the Heart Encore include: I Remember Well, It's Your Love, Tossed On The Wind, Teach Me Thy Way, and Creation Sings. (Five of the eleven songs on the album).

Hymns and Meditations: Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Near The Cross, Softly and Tenderly, Nothing But The Blood, and I Need Thee Every Hour/Just As I Am/ Come Ye Sinners Medley, What Wondrous Love Is This, Con Que Pagaremos, Brethren We Have Met To Worship, Sacred Head Now Wounded, and Nearer My God To Thee. (Which appears to be the entire album of Hymns and Meditations)

It also seems to include all the songs on Night Of Your Return as well. (My Song Is Love Unknown, Praise To The Lord, The Almighty, Night Of Your Return, Mi Abuelito, Chimayo, Jesus, Lover of My Soul, Here Is Love, Road Song, Stricken, Smitten and Afflicted, This is My Father's World, and Green Pastures.)

With two complete albums and two partial albums, BEGINNINGS is well worth the price and is a great addition for any Fernando Ortega fan's collection.

This piano music is wonderful. His style simple but beautiful.

Solid 3rd release.......2006-09-09

This is a solid release from SonicFlood. Jeff Deyo isn't with the band any longer but it's still great music with great lyrics. If you liked SonicFlood's earlier releases you'll like this one as well.

Not the original band? So what? It's still good.......2003-08-28

Here's the opinion of a middle-aged Christian rocker: this line-up of SonicFlood is good. "Resonate" is uplifting and accessible worship music. It's not "groundbreaking" as some considered Sonicflood's earlier works, but that's not the goal of worship music; leading people to enter into relationship with God is the goal. This album succeeds.
Sonicflood is maturing from it's formative days and that's great to hear. This takes nothing away from earlier albums - it's just part of life.

Check out their latest album "Cry Holy" - it's even better than Resonate.

Miserable follow up to first two albums.......2003-08-13

Having really enjoyed Sonicflood and Sonicpraise, I bought this without hearing it. What a horrible mistake. This CD is amateurish nasty electronica, and falls miserably short of the first two CDs. If you can listen to the opening track without cringing, good luck to you. There was apparently much turnover in the band lineup after the first two CDs, and this CD is apparently a casualty of that. This is maybe the only CD I'd happily use as a coaster. I was wary about Cry Holy, the new (2003) CD, but it is a return to something approaching the form of the first two.

Not the usual Sonic Flood.......2003-07-22

I have Sonic Flood and Sonic Praise, just bought Sonic Flood "Cry Holy" all of them are great. Resonate is a different type of music and its not the usual Sonic Flood material. The cd is horrible.

A Wild Ride !.......2003-08-01

A deceptively austere cover and a cryptic title make good camouflage for Victor Calderone's latest. This is a dance album with subversive intent. It wants to take us back...back to our jungle roots. That of course is the intent of most DJs today. But what makes Calderone's album so radical is the degree to which it succeeds. "What Awae Wanna," by DJ Pippi presents I.K.I., gives the set an African launch with it's tribal pidgin vocal. The closing cut, Underworld's "Two Month's Off," ends the mix with its own brand of tribal urban exuberance. From start to finish, the album covers a perfect arch of dark tribal build. If one word could characterize this disc, it would be VIRILE. This is the quality that resonates thru Calderone's backbeats, his bass and drums, and all of his effects. Jungles are virile places, and the human jungle is all about drums and rhythms and chants. Though National Geographic never told us so, jungles are also brimming with sexual energy. Calderone's jungle is both African and New World, as the Latin-inflected rhythms of several numbers testify. When you enter Calderone's world you leave European sensibilities far behind. This is one of those rarities: a perfect continous mix. It is not an album from which one would tear away bleeding chunks with a "burning" knife. Not that it lacks highlights, such as the mindbending "Alessa," performed here in its original garb by De Loren & Colors, and in remix by Iberican Tribal Mix. Most especially, Calderone's own productions: "Drive," "Deep Dark Jungle," and "Resonate" all testify to the erotically mesmerizing effects that percussion and rhythm can have on the human mind.

Hot Tribal House Set.......2003-07-29

Victor Calderone's "Resonate" is a tribal house fans dream....hot, steamy, sexy and created with the sole purpose to make you dance !! The drums are hard, bold and really smack and pop....the hi-hats energize....the vocals are sultry, moody, and in a tribal toungue that really compliments the mood. From beginning to the end you won't quick dancing until your a sweaty pile on the floor !!! The best thing about this mix is the extended play on the songs....Victor is not so concerned about showing you every record he has in his magic stash, but instead chooses to carefully weave the tunes together letting you absorb each song fully (meaning the songs go for 5-7 minutes....which is more representative of a club set and not a cheesy DeVito play-the-song-of-the-minute mix). Victor is dishing out shots to the body like a prizefighter with high energy hits like "Impress Me"...can you say 'Uhhhh Huhhhh', "The Drive", "Deep Dark Jungle", the title track "Resonate" and my personal fav "Am I On Your Mind" will have you wringing out your clothes by the end of the set and wiggling that backside till it shakes right off !!

Tribal House taps into something primitive within all of us and Victor's "Resonate" is solid, seemless and sooooo sexy !! I'm NOT a big fan of "Wild Luv" but aside from that track....this cd is made custom made for dancing. It is also my new goto cd for the drive into/from work and it won't let you fall asleep on the ride home from the clubs either !!! Tribal fans will adore and those in touch with the club scene will appreciate its dance-ability !!! Worthy of my finest 5 lolly Rating !!

Not bad...but not fantastic either!.......2004-09-17

First off, what others have said about this being a very different sound than SonicPraise is absolutely true! That, in and of itself, isn't a BAD thing...it's just that if you're looking for more of what you got on SonicPraise, you'll be disappointed. If you're OK with something a little different, then read on!

Aside from being a different sound, the best I can say about this CD is that it's just OK. When I first put the CD in, the first word that came to mind was "campy"...it's a little more fluffy than previous outings. Since then, the CD's grown on me more, although it'll never occupy a space in my "Can't live without" section. While everything is executed pretty well, there's just nothing new or groundbreaking here, either musically or lyrically. I also felt like some songs had a needless overabundance of goofy sound effects. Basically, while SonicPraise had more of a "live" feel to it, this is very definitely a studio album with a much more polished sound.

All in all, it's an enjoyable CD to listen to, but it won't knock your socks off and you probably won't be compelled to listen to it over and over.

This is an pretty good cd. I've gotta admit, I was taken back at first by how different just the first song was that I almost didn't listen to the rest of the cd. After that, I almost didn't listen to it again. But this is just the kind of thing that has to grow on you, I guess. I've never really been one for ANY dance/techno music, especially with worship. But, again, it grows on you. As far as the worship aspect goes, if you're truly worshiping God, it shouldn't change your worship because you're singing out of the overflow of your heart's love, not out of your taste of music. Anyways, I would go for the cd, just be prepared for something really different from typical worship. God bless.

I don't get It? A good Christian CD comes along and some of you don't recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit. I admit it is sort of wierd that the band members are different but let's get beyond that and appreciate what they've done. They've poured their hearts out on this album and I personally think it ranks in the top 10 list of mine for sure! Cut these boys and girls some slack and worship to the music. I know a little bit about music ever since I picked up my first set of drum sticks back in grade school and I can tell you this band Rocks for the Lord!!! I'd give them a ten if the ratings went that high! All I can say is, It sure is nice to be able to listen to great tunes like this and worshiping the Lord when you're tooling down the ole freeway. Great Job!!!!

Okay, she's gorgeous...but what I love most about this CD is how much passion she sings with...every song! She has obviously been through some trials in her, life and it all comes out in the music! Sabrina can sing, and it comes from the gut! Good stuff! I was totally impressed with her range and the fact that she wrote most of the songs on the CD. She's kind of like a female Lenny Kravitz to me. I love all the cuts on the CD but my favorites are "If You Could" "Come As You Are" and "You're Hurting Me" (this tune is deep). It is surely one you want on the "A" list!

Soulful earthy music.......2005-08-28

I love this CD! I have always been a fan of Sabrina's during her modeling years. So I was very curious to hear how her music would sound. There are several hit songs on this CD. I listen to it every day on my drive to work. She has a very powerful voice like Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston.

Treat yourself to an hour of honest, heartfelt music..........2004-07-07

This is the MOST well written, performed and produced CD in my collection. It's clear from the very up beat beginning with the song "Sometimes", to the very moving "Out of Love" all the way through to the final selection when he briefly shares his outlook on life with us, that this artist has shared his heart and soul. "Friends" sums up what so few people see when it comes to relationships - take your time, enjoy the friendship aspect; smile, laugh and most importantly love. It is at present my favorite song on the CD.

If you like to be told exactly what to think, then this CD is not for you. Jeffrey Todd challenges you to think about the words he's chosen, to apply those thoughts to your life and make your own decisions as to what influence they will have. This is THE CD that you will play over and over and over.

I can only hope that there are more of these songs to come...
