A CD You Can Enjoy Often.......2007-06-21

I had searched & waited for a Chingon CD since the Kill Bill movies showcased Chingon. I was not disappointed.

To draw a more critical eye... I would have enjoyed more songs like the terrific, UPTEMPO, opener, Se Me Paro.

Overall, the tone of the CD is rather soft & mellow. The amazing guitar(s) working together, however, create a very rich sound. This is definately not a dull CD, and lends itself to multiple playbacks. I've played it alot in the couple weeks I've owned this CD, and I have not habituated to it yet.

Heh, I have no understanding of Spanish, but Malaguena Salerosa is beautiful & perhaps the best song on the CD, Siente Mi Amor is close behind.

Does the CD have filler??? Yeah, but some might enjoy the two duds. The english lyrics of Bajo Sexto (track 7) and last song, intrumental Cuka Rocka (track 11).... Neither belong or seem to fit on this CD. Bajo Sexto is a fine song, but they should have kept it all Spanish. Cuka Rocka is clearly just filler and just does not work as a follow up act to impressive track 10 (Siente Mi Amor)

Someone fluent in Spanish would be a better reviewer... My lack of Spanish gives the vocals, for me, a more abstract expression. Maybe that is why I can listen to the CD so much.

As far as personal bias... I really enjoy great guitar work found in blues and rock from artists as diverse as David Gogo's electric & acoustic work to Satriani, Petrucci, Dave Martone, or working bands like Joe Bonamassa or Albert Cummings.

Morricone is an exceptional artist, a treasure, a genius; but the recordings on this cd are NOT his best. By any standard other than that set by him they'd be very good but if your expectations are that you'll be experiencing something on a par with a soundtrack from THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY you're in for a real disappointment.

Although I was not familiar with the films that these tracks come from, Morricone can do no wrong. Most tracks are in the same style as GBU, Fistful of Dynamite and My Name is Nobody. If you really like any of the soundtracks I just mentioned, you will not be disappointed!! Morricone rules!!

The last time I saw this band live was at Bruno's in San Francisco in Fall 1998. The fire-engine red wraparound leather booths and dimly lit, labyrinthine rooms offered a perfect atmosphere for the best lounge core group I've ever heard. "Comb in Blue Water" transmits this feeling, an intimacy not often found on modern studio recordings. Each musician delivers honey-thick fluidity and rich dynamics. The drums throb with deep, roomy themes and melodic transitions on tracks like "Double Naught Spy Car" and "The Mooche". Throughout the album the lap steel lays in a jazz-informed country slidin' twang. The band pays tribute to jazz pianist Thelonius Monk on "In Walked Bud/ Out Walked Bud", an exploration of Monk's original "In Walked Bud". The CD is a gem and a best kept secret everywhere but S.F. and L.A. I feel lucky to have found this music (or did it find me first?). It's infectious from the first listen.

Just a Great Time!.......2004-09-10

If you don't have this album yet, you have to get it! It's worth the price of the cd just to get that "Olive Oil" song. My gosh, these guys are nuts! I love the "oopa, oopa oopas" in the background as you hear this gorgeous Italian tenor voice singing! And the DVD that goes with that song is just nuts! I love it and so does my little one! It's just so very funny but very educational too, true to Wiggles form. Someone needs to lock up that Pirate though. Golly, he's talented and extremely funny. If you don't have the DVD, you have to get it just to see him dressed up as Foodman. I'll tell you one thing, these guys teach wonderful things in hysterical ways that kids don't forget and this album is no different. It's well worth the money and time you spend with your kids watching the Wiggles. You'll be entertained as well and your kids won't be able to move from the screen. If you try to play the songs above, they're not listed correctly. They're all messed up almost completely but you get an idea of what it sounds like if you're not familiar with it. Grab this one, you won't be disappointed!

Heavy Mariachi.......2007-03-27

Chingon crosses heavy guitars and and overall grinding sound with spanish songs to create a genre bending type I call Heavy Mariachi. Any songs with Rodriquez's sister, Patricia Vonne, are top notch and Tito Larrivia adds the edge that he brings to his previous work. While Los Lobos strives for diversity, it's my hope that Chingon stays the course. To best describe this band, combine Los Lobos, the Sadies and Grunge and you'll have a good idea. I look forward to what they can do with some additional original compositions, but well selected and composed covers will be exciting nonetheless.

If you haven't heard the songs on this CD preformed by Chingon, you have no idea what you are missing!
When Lennon and McCartney talked about the influence Muddy Waters had on their music, almost no one knew who he was. That's, what this album is. This is a rare collection of music that will be the influence for many young artists. There is no dought in my mind, that in a few years you will hear someone talking about it's influence on their music.
This one's in my top 10 of all times, and I remember the time before Rock -n- Roll.

Too Awesome-Chingon rocks!!.......2006-03-01

I loved this is CD. I grew up with Mexican Ranchero and Mariachi music and oldies. This is perfect. The song from Kill Bill carries thru the rest of the songs on it. It is full of passion and fire. My little ones loved to dance to it. My 6 yr old was rocking out in the car![...] Give this to your DJ to mix in with your BBQ's and fiestas!

I am a downloader of mp3's, normally because I don't want to pay for the whole cd if only a couple of songs are good, I LOVE chingon, and the whole CD is good, bajo sexto, el rey de los chingones AWESOME, the only song I can say is not one of my favorites is cuka rocka, but that is because it is nearly purely instrumental, I ALL of the music on this cd, I LOVE all but cuka rocka... They turn mariachi music into a party.. I love it, and I am NOT a fan of mariachi type music or flamenco, I am more (if latin) into merengue, and salsa.. But this is sexy.
