Album Description

The Vintage Chill series comes full circle with the release of Volume 4 - Winter. Winter arrives signaling the end of the growing season and with it a time for celebration and reflection. Vintage Chill Winter covers both of these moods like a blanket of snow - the music is both relaxing and bubbly with the variety of rhythms and tempos that typify the Vintage Chill sound. This is the perfect year-end CD for quiet listening or as background while entertaining.

Track Highlights:

Jody Watley, one of the true dance divas of the 80's, covers Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up" - a gutsy move which Jody pulls off with an enchanting soulful vocal interpretation and a really sexy jazz/house groove backing her up.

While Ella needs no introduction, her timeless classic is remixed by Germany's own De-Phazz. De-Phazz brilliantly deconstructs "Wait Till You See Him" into a smoky, downtempo soundscape that retains the sweetness of Ella's vocals.

Hailing from Holland, Adani & Wolf have long been musical compatriots of Praful, a multi-talented saxophonist who is currently making waves at Smooth Jazz radio with his debut album. On "Where Will I Be (Sem Seu Amor)" Praful croons deliciously in Portuguese while laying down his smooth sax stylings to perfection.

Micatone, one of Germany's up-and-coming Nu Jazz artists, first appeared on the Vintage Chill Autumn collection and here they serve up a low-key and emotional track featuring the lovely vocals of Lisa Bassenge.

One of the most asked-about artists from our Elemental Chill series, Max Melvin delivers the appropriately titled "Slowburn", a soaring, string-laden chillout epic backed by congas and understated percussion that takes you on a romantic, lush, cinematic flight. Beginning with a feeling of the coming of dawn, Slowburn builds to an emotional and moving sonic trailride - guaranteed to become a chillout classic.

5 out of 5 stars driving with the windows down to nowhere...and back.......2007-04-18

This is a great CD to put in while you're driving on a 2 lane street with trees on either side of you, windows rolled down, cruising about 55 mph (not too much that the wind bothers you, and you can relax and enjoy the music) - just press play (skip track 3) and start the CD over again and forget where you destination is...great CD :)

3 out of 5 stars What happened to the WinterChill series ?.......2005-07-16

I don't know what happened to this series. They started off one way and ended up another. This cd is nice don't get me wrong but there is very little diversity ! All these songs are accoustic with bare drums or just plain boring. What happened to the Winterchill 2 sound? When the series began they use to show a diverse blend of electronic's and hiphop/TripHop sounding tracks. Now everything souunds like it almost come off the same album or band. The 1st 5 songs on this Cd are beautiful ! Especially the "Slovo" song ! But after that it all starts to run together and sound like one long theme song. I think "Breathe" close to the end of disc one picks up a bit ! But disc 2 I heard barely anything that caught my attention. "Sway & Beautiful" are very catchy and strong songs. But anyway overall compared to the 1st 2 Winterchill efforts the last couple have shown no diversity. I think this will be my last purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Winter Chill.......2005-04-05

I'm a big fan of the WINTER CHILL series from Hed Kandi. It has yet to disapoint me. The songs on here are very acoustic, with hints of trip hop and electronica dripped in throughout. It would be hard for me to find a song I dislike on here, they are all wonderful. It's a nice CD to pop in at the end of a long day, to just relax, and get lost in the beautiful music and great melodies. The vocals from the various artists makes it an interesting, soothing listen. Some favorites include Therese "Why", Lamb "Hearts and Flowers", Headway "Remind Me To Miss You", Bliss "Breathe", Goldfrapp "Forever", Slovo "Killing Me", I am Kloot "The Same Deep Water as Me", Mooi "Sway" and Elbow "Ribcage" to name just a few. Not a dud in the whole collection.

4 out of 5 stars Chilly.......2005-01-02

I really enjoy this latest entry in the Winter Chill series from Hed Kandi. Very nice chill album, very lowkey. It is heavy on the female vocals, but I find them to be very ethereal and calming, and for me it's a nice experience when I pop in the CD. Hed Kandi is good because they choose different artists and songs that aren't on other compilations, and they've chosen some excellent ones for this disc.

Highlights on disc one include Slovo's "Killing Me" which is probably my favorite. Mooi "Sway", Kaskade "Let You Go", Goldfrapp's "Forever" and Hubtone feat Zoe Johnston's "Red Balloon" are all highlights on the first disc. Disc two highlights include Headway's "Remind Me To Miss You", Lamb's "Hearts and Flowers", Therese's "Why", Kate Rogers' "This Collective" and Husky Rescue's "New Light of Tomorrow".

All the songs are wonderful and the perfect soundtrack for a nice quiet evening at home.

5 out of 5 stars A deliciously seductive downtempo compilation.......2004-08-26

I'm not really all that familiar with the Hed Kandi series except for their previous chillout album and now "Hed Kandi: Winter Chill 06.03". I am more of a Buddha Bar fan when it comes to this type of music. I decided to get the new chillout cd in the label's Winter Chill series because I liked what I heard on a previous Winter Chill cd. I'm glad I got it. I found "Winter Chill 06.03" pure ecstasy. I persoanlly enjoy the angelic female vocals that I hear on a lot of chillout music. What I really appreciate about Hed Kandi's chillout series is that the song selections are far from predictable like on a lot of chillout compilations you see in record stores. It is hard for me to pick a favorite of the two discs because the music on both cds are exquisite and a completely joy to listen to. On disc 1, I particularly enjoyed the sensuous sounds of Slovo's "Killing Me" and Hubtone/Zoe Johnston's "Red Balloon". Zoe has a beautiful voice that is ideal for this type of music. Glad to hear her beautiful voice again. On disc 2, I loved the folksy/trip hop sound of Kate Rogers' "This Collective" and the haunting melodies and husky female vocals on Husky Rescue's "New Light of Tomorrow". All of the songs on both cds are excellent. They are the perfect soundtrack to a romantic dinner or the ideal music to chill too after a long day at the office.

3 out of 5 stars A Winter Chill of some discontent.......2004-02-14

Unfortunately Amazon does not let you rate with half stars for the true rating of this CD for me is 2 1/2 STARS. In the liner notes to the previous Winter Chill [2002], Mark Doyle the compiler and self-proclaimed "Hed of Kandi" said that CD was heavy on the female vocals. In this installment he failed to mention that it is overwhelmingly female vocals. The problem is that the female singers all have the same limited vocal range and sing in hushed breathless tones accompanied by minimal and bland instrumentation. I don't know if this is the current state of chill music or just poor choices by Mark Doyle. If you don't watch your CD player, you will not know when one track ends and another begins for most of the first CD. One exception is the always interesting GOLDFRAPP who contribute "Forever". Towards the end of the first CD, the music changes, gets more interesting and signals the superior second CD. Songs by Adani & Wolf "Onto the Light" and Pepe Deluxe "Lying Peacefully" are examples.
At the risk of being labelled a chauvinist, the second CD is better and the saving grace of this collection, because it features more male vocalists and the songs are more distinguishable. Highlights are "The Same Deep Water as Me" by I AM KLOOT, "For All Times" by ABRAHAM, and "Falling" by Nitin Sawhney.
When I wrote a review of the 2002 installment of Winter Chill, I wrote that Winter CHill 2 was the collection to buy. It has the dark, intersting chill sound that was the trademark sound of this series. The current collection has more of a dark sound than last year's offering but it fails to satisfy. In the end, I put Winter Chill 2 back on my CD player.

Truly magical music. Smooth music and Hed Kandi is the best in music today. Buy this one now and enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Love it -- but you have to like this kind of music..........2004-04-29

I really love this cd and I think the negative reviews are because it is very heavy on the ethereal, female vocals and maybe the reviewers aren't nuts about that. But if you like that kind of music, then this cd is great. I only gave it 4 stars because I don't necessarily think it's "the darker side of chill" as the liner notes suggest -- its still chill or lounge music, but very downtempo and more airy and light then "dark".

Some faves: "Whisper", "Magpie", "Missing", "Beautiful Crazy" and "Sunday (the day before my birthday). The cd is worth it just for these amazing songs.

3 out of 5 stars A Few Good Moments, but Lacking Variety........2003-12-08

It's a strange irony that this entry of the Hed Kandi "Winter Chill" series is billed as a trip through "the darker side of chill." A number of the artists that appear on this unmixed 2-disc compilation actually make up mainstream downtempo fare: Moby, Thievery Corporation, Underworld, etc. Despite that, this disc is a pleasing, if unchallenging, mix of warm grooves that doesn't break any new ground but overall serves as a nice companion for those frosty nights indoors. Solid tracks include the mellow "Another Try" by Nova June, the pretty "Missing" by Eric Kupper with Roy Camembert, and the bluesy "Beautiful Crazy" by Space Raiders. Other interesting cuts include Underworld's "Sola Sistim" as well as a not-half-bad cover of R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know it" by Julee Cruise. But I have to echo the sentiments of previous reviewers and say that "Winter Chill" slightly suffers due to a lack of variety. Too many female vocals and not much diversity in terms of tempo and flavor. It's a hair inferior to previous "Winter Chill" compilations, but it's still worth a casual listen.

5 out of 5 stars Upon further review.......2003-12-04

After amassing a couple of hundred chill compilations and associated genre type cd's from all over the globe, I've listed to almost every version of chill out songs out there, but this one keeps coming to front of my juke-box. I have to admit I do skip a song or two depending on my mood, but that's not often. Of all the preceding Winter Chill compilations, 6.2 is hands down the best. I highly recommend anyone trying out this Hed Kandi series to buy this one first. I like to crank the volume as loud as possible especially on disc two, but you decide for yourself. Just passing on the good word. This ranks second only to Paris Lounge Volume 1 as an all time favorite for me and my friends. Chill!

5 out of 5 stars Sensual and Beautiful.......2003-08-18

I have to disagree with the other reviews!!! I thought this to be a great selection of mellow music!!! It is great for a romantic evening!!! What is wrong with a lot of chic vocals? I found that to be refreshing!!!I am a huge fan for both Polaroid and Bonnie Bailey!!! Which are both featured on this CD. The John lee Hooker track was brillant!!! This CD takes you on a journey!!! It has a great lounge vibe, making it perfect for parties!!!! Paul Oakenfold also has a fantastic song on CD 2!!! I feel the other reviews are a bit harsh for such a great compilation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very relaxing and cool.......2006-08-01

This is definitely chilled music, very relaxing and catchy tunes, it almost makes me think it's quiet and cool like a winter night. Very nicely done as usual for HK!!

5 out of 5 stars Yeah, this is a good one.......2006-03-18

Sweet forlorn female vocals with fresh lyrics in wondrous arrangements...."Blame it on the Moon" and all that surrounds it keeps me coming back for more. A rare case where the CD 2 might be the better one. Everyone asks me to play this one again.

5 out of 5 stars A solid compilation.......2005-11-09

VERY different from other Hed Kandi type albums - winter chill provides an eclectic mix of downbeat but involved songs. Some are very new (Sugababes 'stronger'), while others have been around for nearly a decade (Mazzy Star 'flowers in December') - but all strong tracks that together make a great soundtrack for what (I think) would be a fabulous movie. Best surprise track for fans of "Six Feet Under" is on disc 1 Sia, "Breathe Me" this was the song played in the very end of the last episode - it's a cryer.

Other highlights, Goldfrap, Lamb, Frou Frou, Eventide, and Snow Patrol - chances are if you love one of those artists, you'll like, or love, the others too.

Not so great - the instrumentals (disc 1; tracks 8, 9 - which are... well boring).

I reccomend this album to those who loved the Garden State soundtrack - but I would go so far as to say this is better... yes better.

5 out of 5 stars Great mix of chill music.......2005-09-20

I really like the cd. It had songs that I'd never heard of and made me really take a look at some artist I otherwise would've never even heard of. Great way to find up and comers.

5 out of 5 stars Another great entry in the winter chill series.......2005-05-23

The latest WINTER CHILL compilation is great. 32 tracks spread out over two discs. Some nice easy listening. Disc one is filled with great songs like "Stronger" by Sugababes, Sia's "Breathe Me", Mantra feat Linda Oliveri "Lullaby", Goldfrapp "Black Cherry", Eventide feat Robina's "And I...", Frou Frou's "Hear Me Out", FC/Kahuna's "Hayling" and more. Disc two has great songs like Mazzy Star's "Flowers In December", Lamb "Wonder", Late Night Alumni "Meant To Be", Natalie Imbruglia "Cold Air", Alpinestars "Burning Up" and more.

5 out of 5 stars so easy on the ears.......2004-12-22

this compilation is sooo smooth - I was not sure if there was an album that could beat Serve Chilled Vol. 3 - or even come close, but this is just as good - out of all 25 albums I own, this one, Serve Chilled Vol. 3 and Electro Chill are my fav. Very smooth :)

The only song I really don't like is "breather" by Afterlife. It seems offbeat, offkey - if you ever get to hear "Breather 2000" - Afterlife (Arithunda Mix) you're sure to like that one better, you can find it on the CD "Jazzanova" the Remixes (1997-2000)

Great CD all in all - nice work again, Hed. I'm gonna see about getting every compliation you have ever put out - that is my goal, maybe you could help, heh? :)

4 out of 5 stars Winter Has Begun!.......2003-02-09

Folks, it's time to grab the thermals and dust off that space heater that's been hibernating in your basement all summer long. On Hed Kandi's debut Winter Chill compilation, we get over two dozen unmixed songs specifically chosen for the months of winter. I prefer Hed Kandi's collections because they don't copy other labels' formulas and include the same artists time after time. Unlike most downtempo collections I've heard, this one has a decidedly more soulful slant, as evidenced on Disc 2 with cuts like the respectable cover of "People Make the World Go Round" by Carl Craig, A Man Called Adam's groovilicious 8-minute excursion "Wouldn't She," and the jazzy "The Sensual Woman" by the Herbaliser. Disc 1 is a little less soulful but just as effective, featuring notables such as Aim's arctic "Cold Water Music," the funky "We Be the Crew" by Wiseguys, "Survival" by Nightmares on Wax, and the seductive "Moonbeat" by LTJ Experience. While I still think Volume 2 is the best of the Winter Chill series (so far), I dig this one enough for me to recommend.

5 out of 5 stars You need to buy this CD!!! It is Excellent!!!.......2000-09-01

I picked this CD up when I was in Italy and haven't stop listening to it yet. The first CD is smooth Jazz with a very eccentric beat. The second CD is very laid back with lyric vocals and an eclectic mix of cool fun music. I would recommend this CD for parties or lounging with freinds. Everyone has been begging to borrow this CD for parties, but I just can't stop listening to it yet.

4 out of 5 stars looking for peace of mind.......2000-05-26

Hi all, as you must guess the hunt for new sounds got me here, the name hedkandi a brit import, that got into my hands from a friend who cross the pound a few weeks ago. The veredict, well... I hate to be the one that tells things in this case, I love the first cd do not get me wrong, it is just too jazzy for me (listen to cd 2 to hear my point), my fav song has to be Santessa which really does the trick this time, I honestly would head first to the Real Ibiza, or the same Serve chilled by hedkandi first, that is assuming your concept of after night is kind of the one I have, the invest in this cd is well done but I still keep wandering for less jazzy noises and some nice house/d & b/ambient with smooth and intriguing voices strong vocals, not be missed the aim track and the herbaliser, happy trip.

5 out of 5 stars Ultimate Chillout CD.......2000-02-29

It is 5am, all is winding down or up depending on who you are with. Regardless of your late night/early morning activity of choice this CD sets the greatest chill out mood I have ever experienced. Super smooth big beats are intertwined over incredibly diverse rythmes. The vocals on all of these tracks are 100% smooth, from beatiful female icelandic melodies to eclectic trendy blues lyrics there are few tracks to be missed on either CD. To cook up the proper recipe I suggest the following; 1) a good bottle of wine, 2) a beatiful women (or what ever you prefer), 3) a soft couch, 4) no inhibitions.

4 out of 5 stars Chill out.......2005-04-25

The second volume of WINTER CHILL is a treat. The first disc has some great tracks from Sarah McLachlan and Delerium, Afterlife, Goldfrapp, Bent, Dusted, Chicane, Thivery Corporation and more. However, I found disc two to be the better of the two. It features great tracks like "Sunrain" by LTJ Bukem, "Move You Run" by Smith and Mighty, and "I Don't Want to Know" by Muki. Great chillout album!

5 out of 5 stars Great lounging music.......2004-11-28

Who are these people who complain about this volume? It's every bit as good as volume 3! It's definitely heavy on female vocals, but I think there's so much more variety here than in, say, a Norah Jones album that I can't complain about the girl-heavy tracks. There's just enough variety between the songs to keep you interested, but not enough to lose the chill-out vibe. I like to have this one on while I'm studying.

5 out of 5 stars Both CDs are equally wonderful.......2003-08-19

I have been listening to CD#1 for 2 years, loving every moment. This weekend, I finally bothered to listen to CD#2 (you have to understand, most 2-CD sets have one CD that's worth it and the other is just filler.....or so I thought!) I am now having trouble deciding which CD is better, but they are both amazing. Beautiful beautiful beautiful music. Sensitive, innovative, melodic, seductive. Some (good) rap, some acapella, good arrangements, dreamy lyrics. If you like HedKandi, this is one of their very best.

5 out of 5 stars Feel the "Chill" of Hed Kandi........2003-02-04

As of this writing, our region has been suffering some exceptionally cold weather. In these times, you feel like staying indoors, curling under a wool blanket while sipping away at a cup of herbal tea. But what's still missing from this picture? Hed Kandi's excellent second volume of their Winter Chill series. Here are two discs of edgy songs featuring plenty of ethereal female vocals, with genres ranging from dark electropop to sprinkles of soulful jazz. In my mind, Mark Doyle (who compiled these CDs) is among the standard-bearers of downtempo comps, and he creates formulas that labels Ministry of Sound and Ultra would later emulate. What's to like? Afterlife's "Makes Me Feel," familiar cuts "Porcelain" by Moby and "Lebanese Blonde" by Thievery Corporation, as well as "Silence" by Delerium all make Disc 1 worth the trip. But Disc 2 covers more ground, with cuts like the soulfully suave "Sunrain" by LTJ Bukem, the reggae touches of the seductive "Move You Run" by Smith and Mighty, and the acoustic guitar-flavored "I Don't Want to Know" by Muki. These tracks do a great job of creating a mellowed out atmosphere, and they bring up images of a frigid January afternoon. Hed Kandi steers away from the predictable and released one of the best downtempo comps I own. A smart purchase for those who'd rather stay in.

2 out of 5 stars Not bad but could have been so much more.......2002-01-23

Anytime you buy a techno (or any of the techno progeny like house, ambient, trance etc.) you are taking a chance. Why? First, because it doesn't take much to make dance music sound weak. Second, because you probably own half the tracks (in a slightly different mix) on other albums. I own about 10 chill out albums of various quality and I have to, honestly, say that Winter Chill 2 is the weakest. Its flow is sludgy (is that sludgy sound the "winter" in winter chill?) and experimental but experimental in a garage noise kind of way.

(their version of "Swollen" sucks, its littered with ambient crap that sounds reminds me of what a 13 year old does when he gets his hand on his first synthesizer. Sometimes people think that any experimentation is good. No. fyi: You probably own a version of "Swollen" it's the one with a woman crooning "The quietest shade of brown...")

Anyway, to make a long story short: I like the idea of Winter Chill, but WC2 is inferior to most of the other chill/trance albums I own.

4 out of 5 stars Chill out with Winter Chill.......2004-12-25

Being a fan of the other compilations from Hed Kandi, I decided to give Winter Chill a try, and I'm glad I did. Hed Kandi compilations usually contain songs that are otherwise unavailable on other cds, and this is no exception. With the amount of chill cd's out there, it's nice to see a label distinguish themselves by including lesser known artists, instead of taking the easy way and putting songs that were previously available on other cds.

This is a nice CD to just put on as background music, to just relax, or maybe at a party to set the mood, whatever you want. I find a lot of the tracks are hypnotic. Some favorites include a cover of Prince's "Sometimes It Snows In April" by Amar, Afterlife's "Deeper - Into Places", Fac 15 feat. Cathi Ogden on "Rainy Days and Mondays", Depeche Mode's "When The Body Speaks", Goldfrapp's "Lovely Head" and more. Overall a nice chill CD.

1 out of 5 stars Maybe it's just me but this CD was a horrible waste of money.......2004-12-10

Well, I have many, many CDs and few from Hed Kandi. Most are good, some not but none have burned me more than this compilation of crap. I spent $30 and I wish I could return it. I amazed by the reviews for this, I actually went by them to decide to purchase it. In my opinion, these people don't know good Chill when they hear or they are completely tone deaf.
Don't, don't waste your money on this unless you like to listen to B-side style music.

5 out of 5 stars Deep. Dark. Cold........2004-07-25

Hed Kandi is a label that prides itself in providing excellent chill/house/dance msuic by artists that are less popular or perhaps even unknown. Now, this might frighten you at first. I mean, if these artists and songs are unpopular or have never been heard of, surely they aren't very good right? WRONG.

Chill out cds are everywhere nowadays, but most of them aren't very good, or have trackfulls of songs that you already have on a past Chill CD. Not Hed Kandi. The tracks on this cd are mostly unknown (or at least to me, and I consider myself pretty up-to-date with music) except for the opening songs of Faithless and Depeche Mode, but what's great is, the unknown artists are what steal the show! On CD2 Rainy Days And Mondays by Fac 15 is absolutely amazing. The vocals are sensational, the beats are hypnotic. Blow It All Away by Sia is catchy, has heavenly synths and singing.

This 3rd volume is probably the Darkest of the Winter Chill series (V2 was pretty dark, but I didn't like it very much) it's hard to explain the Darkness but, I guess most of the songs just sound a little more moody? or deeper, more bassy, more Alto than Soprano. Whereas 06 03 and 06 02 were more happy, and chipper (They are also the best in the series IMO)

If I was forced to rank the Winter Chill series in order of greatest to least, it would be:

1. (best) 06.03
2. 06.02
3. Volume 3
4. Volume 1
5. Volume 2

So, it's not the Greatest.. I think there's a higher number of awesome songs in the 06's but, there are songs on these CDs that are so good, it's really worth it just for them. Plus, since the artists are kinda 'rare' you can ooh and aah your friends with something other than your worn out Pure Moods and Enya CDs

3 out of 5 stars Good Mix of "Just shoot me" Songs..........2004-06-14

Hedkandi's a solid label that prides itself on releasing full length, unmixed cuts with artists that they bring in for their own label. I'm a big time fan of that, as it lets you put together your own compilations of the best tunes from their cds into whatever playlist you want for your MP3 or mini player, or burned cds. The label goes through all sorts of genres, from deep house to soul, chillout to disco. But the chillout grooves are more my speed. I picked this up a few years ago, and have started listening to it again.

The Winter Chill series is solid and very downtempo and this one is no exception. There are some good cuts here. It starts out perfect, setting the mood... and this is where I have a small problem. It starts with Faithless' "Evergreen", and then the spacy, whistle of Goldfrapp's "Lovely Head" followed up by a cut from Royksopp's wildly successful album a few years ago. Beth Hirsch's calming acoustic song is perfect for imaginging the quietness of a snowfall. And although she's a bit... different, Ursula Rucker knows how to put together a cool vibe and beat with her songs, preaching of independent sisterhood. Jaffa's "Sneakin'" is great - check out that old school Jazz influence! CD 2 doesn't slow down much (how could it - you already have the ambition and motivation of a sloth stuck in molasses.). Depeche Mode, Chris Coco, The Dining Rooms, Afterlife, Kosheen and Mr Hermano have some solid tracks there too.

All in all, solid two discs of ultra chilled out grooves. The downside? Well, you can definitely see how some people might put this in as a sort of "shoot me" depressant after breaking up with someone. And... well... some of the vocals are so syrupy and warbly, they turned my stomach (see "Sometimes it Snows in April", Si*Se, etc...). My real gripe - why oh WHY did they quit with the Serve Chilled series? Of course they don't want product cannibalism, but I liked those better. The Third one was one of my favorite compilations. It went from upbeat to downtempo, and had some fantastic and not so overplayed cuts from that time period (Atjazz, Raccoon, Los Ladrones, S-Tone Inc., etc) If you like this, then by all means check out the other Winter Chill cds. Or... there is a cd titled "She: A Female Trip-Hop Experience". But guys be warned; if you see this on top of the stereo at any time, get away as fast as you can. Run... don't look back. Don't ask questions. Just run.

4 out of 5 stars This compilation truly lives up to the term "chill out".......2003-01-03

This is my very first Hed Kandi release that I recently acquired. I liked what I saw when I saw this album on Amazon.com. I liked the diversity and the lack of the same ol'songs and artists that I typically see on other chill out compilations. The first disc was good. I think I am going to need the music to sink into my head before making a final call on. Still it is definitely better than volume 2 of "Ultra Chilled". The standout tracks on that cd was the songs by Faithless, Royksopp, Si*Se, Goldfrapp, and De Phazz. Disc 2 is excellent. I really loved Depeche Mode's "When the Body Speaks", Fac 15 (feat. Cathi Ogden)'s cover of The Carpenters' "Rainy Days and Mondays" and Amar's "Sometimes It Snows in April". I thought both discs really represented chill out music in its finest form. The tracks are really solid and different. Sometimes it costs more for quality music and this cd is no exception to that statement. I definitely need to pick up the first two compilations in Hed Kandi's series of chill out music.

3 out of 5 stars Pleasant Corporate Trip Hop.......2007-03-30

Probably more of 2.5 Stars but no 1/2's here at Amazon. This disc is a little trip hop trance but it's not very interesting as stand alone tracks - if you're doing a corporate event at a bar and you want some music that sounds vaguely hip to average people but yet not too "real" trip hop that might get people to dance or to be distracted, this is a fine CD. For background listening, it's pleasant - for dancing, it's just bland.
