Addicted to Music

Editorial Reviews

With all the sap and cheese he can muster, ATB, aka Andre Tanneberger, pumps up the pop-dance theatrics and flies his trance flag high on the self-produced collection Addicted To Music. Along with contemporaries like Chicane and BT, his ability to write a catchy tune is obvious here, as well as on past records like Two Worlds and Dedicated (not to mention the still-potent 1999 single "9 PM"). Tracks like the would-be single "In Love with the DJ" and "Long Way Home" shimmer like a sunny lake, and will undoubtedly become ideal remix fodder. But he misses the cold drama of the genre by a mile, opting too often for molehills and ditches rather than peaks and valleys. When it comes to ATB’s squeaky-clean sound, a little dirt would go a long way. --Matthew Cooke

2 out of 5 stars Slow but pleasing.......2006-12-31

I'm more used to a more rhythmic tempo from ATB. This wasn't what I had in mind when I was buying the cd. All tracks are rather slow and melancholy. Not rapid up beat melodies and songs at all. It's good to relax with I guess. If you like a slow, more mesmerizing kind of tunes then this is for you. Otherwise don't bother.

5 out of 5 stars kick back and relax.......2006-11-09

In creating Addicted to Music, ATB defiantely had a chillout session in mind. The CD is a fantastic medley of melody and harmony. What separates this CD from others in the category is this one never gets monotonous for a moment. I love the tracks and the lyrical themes they express. Again, they are primarily love related and at times emotional. This is not the cd for you if you are looking for something to listen to and bounce along in your car or your living room however.

5 out of 5 stars Very Unique.......2006-09-17

A lot of people on here seem to think this album is too slow, too clean sounding, etc. What they're missing out on is something completely different from a typical album of the genre, or really any album sold today in general.

I listened to "No Silence" before I got this album, and let me tell you, they ARE two completely different animals. I like to describe "Addicted to Music" as a sophisticated, thought-provoking, soothing album.

The more up-tempo vocal tracks include 1, 2, and 4. Each has their own unique sound--the first one is a bit darker than the others, the second one is light, bright, and great to drive to, and the fourth one is a reflective piece in the lyrics and to a degree you can feel it in the music as well.

Tracks 3, 5, 7, 8, and 10 are all a bit slower than the aforementioned tracks. Each has a different feel to it, yet they all sound right when listened to at the same time. ATB is able to keep his unique style throughout while providing diversity.

Tracks 6, 9, 11, 12, and 13 are all instrumental, or at least partially instrumental. These are what really makes this album worth picking up. In particular, the ninth track, "Sunset Girl", and the twelfth, "Trilogy". The pieces both feature a lot of piano melody and have their share of builds and climaxes while repeating the same general theme--in the old German style (listen to Beethoven's 5th symphony, it's the same way). "Sunset Girl" manages to paint a picture in the mind and gives a chilling, somewhat uplifting, almost macabre sound at times--definitely my favorite track to date! "Trilogy" also manages to capture emotion well--I'd want the song played at my wedding.

Finally, there's a hidden track. Keep the last one running after it's played. The song is called "Ruby". Another song like the second group I mentioned, but again with a different feel--to me, it has an academia feel to it, rather scholarly, as if it's something really smart people would listen to.

This isn't an album for everyone. The people who only listen to rock and rap won't appreciate this at all. But if you have a good brain, a heart, and that special knack for appreciating this sort of music, I highly suggest you buy this!

3 out of 5 stars not one of ATB's best.......2006-03-28

this cd was very down tempo it has a very soothing sound to it making it great to relax to. it has a few up beat traks on it such as In Love with the Dj. I Dont Wana Stop and Long Way Home. ATB's music in this album begins to have a much fuller and natural sound to it. while not his best work it is still a great album and i highly recomend it if you enjoy ambient music.

3 out of 5 stars Would be better with different vocals.......2006-02-21

I really like this cd. My favorites are tracks # 6,11,12,13 - incredible instrumentals. (Especially track 12 - trilogy!!)

However, the majority of the tracks here contain vocals, which I am very indifferent to. This woman's voice is just too worn-down and weary for these songs. It's warm, definitely, but that's not enough.
I imagine someone with an energetic, pure, much more emotional voice performing these tracks and... I picture myself just floating. Alas...

When it comes to music, everything counts, but someone overlooked this simple fact.

    5 out of 5 stars Third Heaven.......2006-08-16

I love the words to this song and would like to have it played at my funeral. However, I would like to be able to remove the beginning of the song (in the emergency room) and start with the part where he was dying. I would also very much like to be able to remove or at least lower the instrumentals because they drown out the words. If anyone knows how I can accomplish this, please let me know.

5 out of 5 stars This is such a awesome album.......2006-04-10

I remember being much younger and totally being in love with this album when it released. Now I'm 28 years old and I'm still loving Carman. Singing straight from the scripture. Thank God He placed this love for music in our Italian brother. If you've never really listened to Carman before you might have trouble getting into this album. This album is pretty old school in the sound department. But if your a long time fan, as I am, this album will rock for ages and ages to come......

1 out of 5 stars A blight on Christian music.......2006-03-18

If it were possible to give it zero stars, I would. Between the insipid lyrics, the blatant ripping off of other bands and songs and the goofy theology, I can't believe anyone could listen to this for anything other than comedy.

    5 out of 5 stars I Cry Everytime.......2005-11-16

This is one of my all time favorite cds of ALL TIMES. I can't go a single day with out listening to it. It seems that every time I do the songs sound even better than the last time I heard it. I highly recommend it to everyone! I always give away Carman Cds for christmas... and this one is always my favorite gift to give to those I love.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Album .......2005-09-09

This is a superb album. Carman's Best! I just can't stop playing this in my car! Absolutely brilliant!

5 out of 5 stars Grizzard's "Addicted to Love: Live".......2000-03-16

After listening to this CD, I fondly recall many of Grizzard's stories from his books. His story telling, that he distinctly inherited from his father, truly set the tone for this collection.

As a long time fan, Lewis Grizzard's "Addicted to Love: Live" will delight the first time time listener.

If you are into clean comedy, this CD is for you.

    4 out of 5 stars A very necessary purchase........2002-11-20

The best mixes of this track were not available on CD until this release so I'm glad that other people have bought it and included the track details (why no track listing, Amazon.com?).

    Anyway, here's my review...

1: Original. Clever and interesting - not straight drum & bass. Seems to appeal to a lot of unexpected (and unsuspecting??) people!

2/3: Differentgear. Forget the edit - all the cool stuff is missing and it just sounds like standard, turgid house. For the full length remix, not only are we given a cool, building intro but also, for the last couple of minutes, we are pulled into a supremely low-bass groove that frankly could last a good while longer. Surprisingly interesting mix for Differentgear!

4: Robbie Rivera Vocal. Despite the bass line, it just feels high pitched, irritating and inconsequential. Maybe this is good "for the moment" club music but, similarly to his "Hard & Sexy" mix for Kylie, I don't like it!

5: Robbie Rivera Tribal Sessions Dub. Ooooooooooooh yes! Give me a tribal dub with vocals and you'll always get me hooked, but this is truely fantastic. The keyboards don't make sense on the first pass but when the heavily pre-echoed vocals get in on the main break it all just pulls together...

    6. Creamer K. Not sure how to explain this but I think that this is the best cut on the CD. I'm fairly certain that, with the exception of dubs, the dropping of all but the smallest of vocal snippets ("Rhythm turning over me") is unique for these guys when it comes to their mixes. Creamer K trainspotters will know that they never do the same thing twice so the best way to describe its appeal is its "weight" and "density". Similarly to Sinead O'Connor's "Troy" and Kosheen's "Hide U", this is a heavy tribal track with denser percussion than Moony's "Dove" or Iio's "Rapture". It's incredibly sparse and is really fantastic headphone (progressive) house. Seriously recommended to those who liked the aforementioned Creamer K remixes.

5 out of 5 stars Robbie Rivera's Mix is the best!.......2002-10-24

This song was a huge success for this Australian act a few years ago and in the Uk last year and came to the US earlier this year in the Import form by Different Gear and that only went as high as #37 for 2 weeks . Now comes the US release with all new mixes for the fragmented US club scene. First off the original song is all drum and bass and distorted vocals to now all house mixes. The Different Gear Mix(8:36) is what most radio mix shows are playing and it is quite excellent as a straightforward house mix . But it is the Robbie Rivera Vocal Mix(7:19) that is just tremendous. When I first heard this mix it made me stop and totally listen to it. From the retro keyboards to the techno riffs to the edits that was placed in this mix it is the best mix for this song. The vocals suit this mix like the original---rough and hard. This is the mix that took it to number one on the dance charts. The Robbie Rivera's Tribal Session Dub(7:28) has most of the vocals and excellent. The John Creamer & Stephane K mix(9:51) is a dub with little vocals and not my favorite at all. Buy for the tremendous Robbie Rivera's Vocal Mix you will not be disappointed.

This is a great song from Puretone, chock full of break-beats, hard basslines, and a pinch of trance synths, sound like a great song, right... sort of. The musical aspect of it is real great, however I found the voice to get annoying VERY fast. I do suppose the punk vocals go well with the song... but maybe if they were done better, I would've scored this one higher, but everything can't be perfect.

Our Deephouse Dons from Milan Are Back with a CD, that is High Quality as Usual. The Tracklisting Looks Like the Who-is-who of Real House-music, Next to Old School Veterans Like Kerri Chandler, Rick Wade and Gene Hunt, the New School is Represented as Well. Alex Delano Should Be Known by Insiders. Dennis Ferrer Cannot Be Called Newschool, Because He Already Got a Star on the Deephouse Sky. Artists Like Vernell De Long and Schmoov Show What Comes from their Hearts and of Course Harley Und Muscle Prove Again with their Track "Together" that They Are Excellent Producers. The Second Part of Addicted to House is as Strong as the First and Shows Once Again, that House is a Global Thing, that Can't Be Stopped! Amen.
