Product Description
The Mitchell Brothers Debut LP was Written on the Back of the Streets Tour Bus During their 2005 Tour as Well as at the Beats Headquarters. The Mitchell Brothers Are Now Being Described in Some Quarters as the british Outkast. The Combination of their Witty Banter, on Point Narrative with Killer Chorus and Mike Skinners Winning Production Puts them in Pole Position for a Sure-fire Hit.
"She's Got It All Wrong" is essentially the 'It's Too Late/Dry Your Eyes' track, except it's more fleshed out. This particular track, as well some others like 'Excuse My Brother', When The 'Whistle Blows' and 'Someone Can't Look Us In The Eye' are almost as refreshing as Original Pirate Material was (a great feat considering that sound has been used by Mike ever since and plundered by various others.)
Routine Check and Harvey Nicks are both very much 'singles', but they certainly grow on you, especially the off-kilter verses of Sway and Mike (Kano is also pretty good). Much has been made of the concept that 'Routine' is the Brothers version of "F*ck Tha Police", but apart from general discussion of the constabulary it shares no similarity.
One thing: this is NOT grime/two-step etc. This is UK Hip-Hop, more like a cross between Roots Manuva and The Streets. As I said in the Routine Check review, the staccato delivery of the Mitchell's is off-putting at first, but it definitely grows on you and the Brothers could certainly carry a whole album without the help of the various guests. A lot of this album also proves how much Mike and his boys just love making music and have a great sense of humour. As an example I give major props for the comment at the start of Harvey Nicks that goes "Nobody liked Dry Your Eyes anyway...the only person who liked it was my mum".
By no means will this re-define your view of music, but it is certainly a highly promising debut. So, if you like Roots Manuva, The Streets and possibly Wiley, get this.
