Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Very UnBALANCEd.......2007-07-13

This is the first commericial compilation I've listened to by Desyn Masiello. Two discs of upbeat house music with a highly evident predominance for funky and retro-disco tracks.

My first opinion of the album, initially fluctuated quite a bit. Its overall sound was very similar to an album I've listened to years before. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, so I dug into my CD collection and there it was. "Metro Area" by Metro Area released in 2002. A track or two from that album could occasionally be heard mixed into a set on some random UK dancefloor during 2002/2003.

I admit that I liked Metro Area's unique and fresh sound for a short while, but it quickly got tiresome after listening to their album a few times. That unique and fresh-sounding track that caught my ear when initally heard as part of a mixed set was all too similiar to the 11 other tracks on the album.

That is pretty much how I feel about Balance 008 by Desyn Masiello. With the exception of some of the more tacky vocal tracks, the majority of the other featured tracks are OK, but each would do much better as part of a more eclectic set. When each disc is listened to entirely (and especially one after the other) the tracks become a tad too familiar and similar to each of the previous ones. That element of anticipation normally felt during track transitions of really good commercial mixed compilations (or live sets) is completely absent for me when I listen to this album.

"Flowers" by Babak Shayan is my highlight on disc 1 and the incredibly out-of-place (but highly appreciated!) "Halcyon+On+On" by Orbital for disc 2.

Disc 1 gets 3.5/5 stars and Disc 2, 3/5 stars.

3 out of 5 stars Don't buy into the hype. It is that good but there is better.......2006-10-03

This Cd is really good. No seriously, it is probably one of the most interesting mixes for 2005. There is only one problem. James Holden. His balance installment makes masiello's look like something my kid sister would do;It is that good. But whether you like it or not you have to give Masiello plenty of Kudos for coming up with a mixing stlye and track selection that is truly original, searingly danceable and energetic. Too bad it simply isn't genius. But no matter, we have Holden and Sasha for that.

5 out of 5 stars Ace.......2006-08-09

It is as if Balance were an assignment, where desyn Masiello aced it. This cd is fabolous and basically completes my solid trance collection. There is a mix or balance of everything on this cd and it makes the whole cd collection good. These discs are phenomenal.

4 out of 5 stars Damn Good.......2006-08-03

I knew it from track 1 on the first disc. This is a hot set. I started grooving in my desk chair to the music Desyn has on here. This is a very, very solid and groovy set of beats that has a little something for everybody on it. Only set I know of that comes close from 2005 is GU:28: Nick Warren in Shanghai. To be enjoyed, surely.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Stuff!.......2006-05-24

This is a nice deep house production. If you like this, check out the first full length CD for producer Quentin Allen as Karu. There are other 12" releases on Silver Network, Dadhouse, Winding Road, Mimosa & Smooth Agent. This CD is a very consistant production with a good blend of jazz, hip-hop, techno, neo-soul, and deep house all together. The beats are very crisp and sound good in the car, the house or the club. Some songs tastefully use vocal snippets to add flavor. There is even a track featuring Warren Harris aka Hanna (Shadow Records, Silver Network, Flat & Round, Freerange). If you want good quality deep house, this CD is for you.
