Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Satisfying, intriguing music with staying power.......2007-06-10

This is a series of pieces that develop slowly and organically, combining electronics with natural-sounding, well recorded acoustic piano in a live recording. Yes, a little audience noise in the first few seconds, but the setting is quiet after that. The combination of acoustic and electronic instruments is handled wonderfully, their respective colors and textures complementing each other perfectly. If you have ever enjoyed, say, slow instrumentals by David Sylvian (Gone to Earth), or Brian Eno, or Harold Budd, you'd probably like this. It's been one of my most satisfying purchases in the last year (or two).

4 out of 5 stars A good combination.......2005-11-03

I understand A.Stribling's review, from his point of view, but I do disagree. If one were looking specifically for recording of Budd's lovely atmospheric piano work, then there are other titles one should look at.

But I find, in this case, that Budd's lilting piano melodies and treatments, combined with Bernocchi's light but funky rhythms, work well to combat what can sometimes be boring in both artist's work...in the context of a 50 + minute sitting, I mean. I don't mean to imply that either are boring as a rule, just that it's rather nice to hear them in a context in which they can play a bit of 'tag team'.

I would recommend many of Budd's recordings, to be sure, including this one, which functions as both meditative and suitable for more focused listening as well.

2 out of 5 stars Chopin meets some guy with a Casio.......2005-07-21

What we have here is basically a live recording of a series of piano works with intrusive treatments meant to accompany a video installation. Unlike his collaborations with Eno (whose treatments compliment Budd's piano), Bernocchi's polyrhythms, filters, and echo treatments get in the way of the music. Not having seen the video, I can't judge wether the imagery works with the collaboration. The sound mix also isn't up to par, as there is a lot of ambient noise from the audience in the first track. But judged on the merits of the performance, I can only recommend this to Budd fanatics. It's like watching a great movie with someone banging pans and dishes in the kitchen to the sound of a beatbox.

5 out of 5 stars eraldo at his peak best scense charged live, not for older budd fan's .......2005-07-17

This album is absolutelly amazing. eraldo brings to the table years of electronic genious & harold budd steps to the table with also many years of ambient electronic experience & piano that non can compare to. it hard to classify this album due to all the elements that are involved but for eraldo if you are familliar with his previous work than theirs no real shock but for budd fans if you stick real closs to who he works with on side stuff like a few years ago on the album solaris live with graham haynes on trumpet, jah wobble, bass bill laswell bass, & jaki liebazet on drums, & harold playing wicked synth & light piano & the album Glyph with hector zazou which dosent say much for budd fans because everyone i know but 1 hates that album, but verry similar due to the darker tones loose piano playing and dense beats, but hector throws in more of a smokey coffee house vibe thought really cool eraldo is much more dark and dub orinted & industrial although slow. on the first song that only features harrold it is a taste of things to come when hearing his verry lamented light piano that asscents in the most beautifle way, then like the second some has eraldo bringing in some verry ambient rythmic elements then fully blowing the doors open & revealing dark dub bass & excellently programmed percussion & drum sound then adding electronic key sounds that harrold also adds when his is not playing the piano. manny worldly sounds to like tablas in the 2nd song & horns. some of the ambiense comes of sounding jon hassell ish but deffinetelly breaths its own air. & song 6 starting out with a beat that i thought only stephon betke of pole could creat then exploding that in something that he would work on with laswell. deffinetelly lots of dub elements and pitch shifting psychodelic space navigations. so im not sure if fans of harrold's older more sothing work will appriciate it or love the change because it is so beautifle & raw. in conclusion the only thing that i was dissapointed with was that in charged live eraldo plays amazing electric guitar that is not featured here but the piano makes up for a bit. fans of of course laswell, but jon hassell's 4th world, eno's album drawn from life lightelly similar. nils petter molvaer, & currious thristy mindz
Eraldo Bernocchi:
well i havent heard of any of his older work suck as afa, bfy, interceptor, or sigillum s. primarelly due to no copies on amazon & ebay, & are italian imports.
but i have heard, ashes: ashland, electronic industrial with dub elements. i have yet to recieve my copy of ashes: corpus but will report when arives, with bill laswell ob bass & raz singer from almamegretta. simm: welcome, industrial electronic dub with him doing everything. almamegretta's albums lingo, also with bill laswell & temple of sound guest staring, indubb with same guests, & 4/4 with just temple of sound. the equations of eternity album, self titled and veve, with bill laswell & mick harris, awesome industrial and even more dub than the rest of eraldo's early work due to bill's amazing dub bass that can fit in electronic music like nothing better & mick is the drummer of napalm death, and scorn. he worked yet again with mr. laswell on somma: hooked ray light which is traditional munky chants acompanied with their furious drums & horns, all songs but last are traditinal them only adding slight ambient undertones to the chants but last song has laswell playing dub bass and light newelly added percussion. he & mick harris released 2 records 1 called overload lady which features uptempo industrial beats & dub effects, & total station pretty much the obosite with downtempo beats & dub effectz. he worked with japeneese avant guard trumpeteer toshinori kondo and bill laswell on his label innerythmic label called charge, more jazzy upbeat electronics with laswell also playing more jazzy than dub influinced, then in 2003 came out with chargel live with same crew but adding hamid drake on drums, aiyb dieng: percussion, & dj disk on you know what,& gwana musicians of morocco on last song & i would to say this is 1 of the best from eraldo & last release he has had scense this 1 & also live, eraldo plays guitar and electronic's on this 1 & flys with color & texture plenty of dub electronic going on. then in 2003 worked with former baraka label head & now baboon records head professor shehab's new project samsara sound system which in my opinion is the best eastern dub album ever aside from 2005's azzddine on barbaretty label with laswell playing bass on several trackz. blending alan kushan's exquisit santoor a dulcimer like instrument with fumios dub bass and tons of electronic eastern hop madness, eraldo just mixes several of the best trackz.
also if you really loved this album nils petter molvaer's last album called streamer is also live and has much similar structure but nils has a live drummer, guitarist, dj & keyboardest along with pree recorded samples & loopz.
i also feal that the reviewer that reviewed above is horribly mistaken with this one & obviouselly approached this album with predetermined conceptions & obviouselly dosent know anything about eraldo bernocchi scense this is nothing new for him, so their again i have to worn those hard core budd fans this is primarelly eraldo's game with budd playing verry light piano accents & strong synth which can be missconstrued as eraldo's. eraldo fan's please will understand.
