4 out of 5 stars As good as her debut album........2006-11-26

"Into The Skyline", Cathy Dennis' follow-up to her multi-platinum "Move To This" is every bit as good as her debut. The dance beats are infectious, the hooks are catchy, and the songwriting and instrumentation are first-rate.

More a victim of changing musical trends than anything else, this album (which didn't do well sales-wise) is criminally underrated. If you are at all a fan of the house-infused music on "Move To This", I can almost guarantee you'll like this CD.

On a side note, I've always felt bad for artists like Cathy Dennis, who - through absolutely no fault of their own - suddenly find themselves out of favor with the music-buying public because of its fickle taste. And, while some artists like the Bee Gees and Duran Duran are able to return to prominence later, others like Ms. Dennis can no longer make a living at their chosen craft and must turn to other avenues. While Cathy has had phenomenal success writing songs for Kylie Minogue and the like, it must rankle that she, a talented dance artist in her own right, must remain behind the scenes and in the control booth - instead of on stage as many of us (and perhaps the lady herself) would prefer.

4 out of 5 stars An underrated, immaculate dance-pop album..........2006-03-11

I purchased this CD almost ten years ago (I was 14) and to this day it stands as one of my favorite dance-pop albums. Though this sophomore effort by one of the UK's highest paid women (as another reviewer mentioned, her songwriting credits for Pop/American Idol, Britney, Kylie, and others have earned her some major $$$ in royalties)was poorly recieved upon it's release in 1992, it should be considered ahead of it's time as it mirrors the dance pop that exploded globally in the late 90's and early 2000's. The songs on this set (largely co-produced by remix/dance extraordinaire Shep Pettibone) are immensely infectious and range from housy, gospel-tinged pop to luscious, AC balladry; they offer a little something for everyone. Uptempo numbers like first single "You Lied To Me" and the bouncy "Irresistable" are just that, and the ballads on here showcase Cathy's gorgeous vocals and remarkable songwriting chops. The standout track for me is the stunning, Carpenters-esque gem "Moments of Love". With it's sweeping strings, touching & tender melody, and Ms. Dennis' delicate yet soulful vocal delivery, this tune is a classic in my book.
Unfortunately, after the disc failed to make a significant impact on the charts (to my knowledge, "You Lied To Me" and "Irresistable" barely missed the top 40 in the US and "Moments of Love" was a minor hit on AC radio), Dennis drifted into pop obscurity thereafter, with the exception of the crtically-acclaimed yet commerically-panned 'Am I The Kinda Girl?.
For the true pop enthusiast, this CD is a must.

4 out of 5 stars This CD Rocks!.......2006-03-07

"You Have Another Lover" is a serious dance track, to which you can not stop tapping your feet at about 80bpm. If you like to dance, and I mean serious, wild, crazy bump and grind dance then you will love this CD.

4 out of 5 stars Amazingly underated album.......2005-11-05

Cathy Dennis' sophomore album was more a victim of changing trends in music than lack of quality. Following up her mega-successful debut "move to this", Cathy teamed up with dance producer Shep Pettibone (who was simultaneously producing Madonna's also poorly recieved Erotica album) to create an album that blended early 90s dance rhythms with a mellow, adult contemporary sound.

First single "You lied to me" was high dance floor drama with its chugging rhythms and soaring keyboards. An accussatory Cathy tells her lover the game is up and she has caught him cheating. It was a minor top 40 hit in the US. Subsequent singles didnt crack the top forty in the US but did well in in her native UK and Japan.

Overall the album is a great piece of work. Standout tracks are the summery sound of "Irresistible", the bouncy europop of "Why?" and the gorgeous ballad "moments of love".

Other tracks are also fairly standard but enjoyable dance-pop which could have easily been on her first album. "Change will come" and "We've got to fight" certainly sound like holdovers from those sessions.

This album features Cathy on songwriting credits for nearly all tracks showing her desire to grow as an artist.

The album didnt do well and cathy queickly went behind the scenes to write for other artists. But this album is an awesome addition to anyone's collection who appreciates fine pop songs and a a lovely voice. RECOMMENDED!

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully Done.......2005-08-12

Growing up in the 90s, this cd brings back great memories, being a teenager, and just enjoying life, I liked "Why" but my favorite track off of this cd is "Moments of Love", it is such a beautiful song, and she sings with it with such feeling, and it always got me. I realize that things change and she is doing work for other artists, but in her time she shined, and ones like me never forgot.

Album Description

It has been said that Philip Glass is the `Godfather of Trance' and evidence of that is found in the remixes that a number of young producers/musicians began sending to Orange Mountain Music as early as 2002. These unsolicitated mixes became the genesis for Glasscuts, Philip Glass Remixed (release date Sept 2005). This CD presents a very diverse program without any one dominant style. The artists are Androoval from Uruguay, Robert Bell from Australia, Brian Bender from the US, Hector Castillo from Venezuela, Taylor Dupree from the US, Sebastian Escofet from Argentina, impLOG, from the US, Woody McBride DJ ESP from the US, Marcos Romero from Uruguay, Kate Simko from the US, Dietrich Schoenemann from the US, Luciano Supervielle from Uruguay and Dave Wesley from the US.

We invite you to immerse yourself in Glasscuts, Philip Glass Remixed with open ears to experience a Glass that is reminiscent of the past, but with an adventurous contemporary twist.

1 out of 5 stars This is just awful - I was suckered by the excellence Reich Remixed.......2006-07-23

I just assumed that this would be as equally wonderful, and that Glass' music would be even more translatable into the "trance" genre, or whatever the kids are calling it nowadays.

Sadly, it seems that this was done by junior high kids with a computer and Acid Foundry or whatever that cheap software is.

No creativity, and, oddly enough, not even any real sense of Glass' music still being in the "remix".

I am a huge fan of Glass; I am not a fan of this kind of music, but since I am also a fan of Reich and since, to my total surprise, I am quite enthralled by the Reich Remixed CD, I figured I really needed to give this CD a shot.

What a waste. This is totally amateur, but without the occasional genius that some amateur can manage. Strictly, totally, and banal amateur yuckiness.

1 out of 5 stars a huge letdown..........2005-12-21

Yeah, it's fun and easy to beat up on remix albums since there are so many mediocre and terrible ones out there... but, wait: here's a great idea... let's give the pioneering, repetitive, trance-like minimalist music of Philip Glass the remix treatment... after all, Reich: Remixed was fabulous... surely the same kind of creativity can be unleashed in this project... But alas, something went terribly wrong here... these are mostly unbearably monotonous, grating, overlong, amateurish productions by remixers who don't seem to even GET (or enjoy?) Glass' music. A real missed opportunity and a huge letdown... ick...

1 out of 5 stars The Ever Recyclable Glass .......2005-11-20

This is just another insipid release from the Orange Mountain label, which keeps putting out anything with the Philip Glass
name on it - even if it is flagrant garbage. Several releases have been issued which about 90% have the same old songs, just performed by different people. In fact, Philip Glass has become more banal and bovine in the last few years because he knows anything with his name on it will sell to the trendy modernistic music crowd. Overall, I believe it is time to stop
recycling Glass.

1 out of 5 stars Pop music with only a hint of Philip Glass.......2005-10-28

This music should be categorized under the "popular music" category, not "classical". All the pieces have an incessant drum beat typical of popular music. This is unlike any other Philip Glass CD that I have and I have about a dozen of them. Where can I get rid of this?

3 out of 5 stars Sound Effects.......2005-09-24

When this album was announced, I was quite looking forward to it; before hearing anything, I compared it to the wonderful work done on "Reich Remixed" which takes some daring approaches to Reich's music and does an excellent job (with a few exceptions) of being new and exciting. Unfortunately, Glass Remixed isn't as daring or as good.

Much of the music is overshadowed with Glass's music and themes. It's as if someone was playing the original music in the background and sound effects were added to it. Throughout listening to Remixed, these sound effects got in the way of the music and I ended up digging out the original pieces and listening to them. However, there are some excellent pieces of interpretation contained within: Etude #2, the Tirol Concerto, and the Saxophone Concerto stand out (especially the Saxophone Concerto since I don't care for the original piece).

The other mark against this effort is all the work had to come from the Orange Mountain Music catalog due to ownership complications. This is not to say there aren't outstanding pieces in the catalog, but this restriction limits most of Glass's seminal works from being considered.

As a huge Glass fan, I was mildly disappointed, but I applaud the effort and the concept behind it.

5 out of 5 stars Infectious indie rock!.......2003-02-27

Wow the boys from Oklahoma have done it! A polished gem of a CD. Deep, rich melodies and honest heartfelt lyrics. Uniquely refreshing. No pretense, just rock. This album is really fantastic, and does a good job at capturing their amazing live show. If you havent had a chance to catch them live, then I suggest you make a point to do so. They are doing what they love, and are making their way around the country doing the rock thing the old fashioned way. Cant wait for a full length!
