Vocalist Suzanne Perry and guitarist Ryan Lum seem like just plain folks--you know, that cute couple from next door who invite you over every once in a while for a tofu stir-fry and sulfite-free wine. Ever, the band's third disc, telegraphs that kind of unassuming charm. It's a languid, atmospheric, but unfussy affair, built around Perry's airy, pretty voice and Lum's echoing electric and calming acoustic guitars. The dreamy, contemplative music is not unlike some of the Cocteau Twins' quieter moments. (Indeed, the strongest track here, "Delta," could have been plucked directly from the Twins' Blue Bell Knoll.) In many ways a transitional album, Ever sees LSD taking small steps away from the spare acousticness of 1992's Idylls and 1994's Ardor and tinkering with denser mixing and light electronic percussion--presaging the confident drum & bass they would employ on 1998's Flux. --Steve Landau

You want relaxing classical music that'll soothe your soul but won't lull you into sleep? Here's a double CD for you. The Most Relaxing Classical Album in the World ... Ever! does its best to cover both well-worn classical favorites (Bach's "Air on the G String," Pachelbel's "Cannon," Debussy's "Clair de Lune") and some eclectic left-field choices (an excerpt from Górecki's Symphony No. 3, Jocelyn Pook's "Blow the Wind," and Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. The performances of most of these excerpts are top-notch--artists include Sir Neville Marriner, James Galway, Jacqueline du Pré and the Philadelphia Orchestra--and there's enough variety here for everyone. --Edward GarabedianCustomer Reviews:

That said, i totally adore this set because i have learned to take it on its own terms. These discs weren't meant for expert classical listeners, so a review from that sort of mindset is useless. This set was meant for pure, easy listening, and for a basic starters kit for classical newbies. Most of all, it was just meant to do what the title says, to relax the average human being. classical expert or not.
Yes, some of these pieces have been altered or shortened, like Mozart's Flute and Harp Concerto Andantino, but they have been edited for a good enough reason: the full versions would have been too long to flow with the rest of the album. And also, the full versions contain so much development that they don't become easy listening anymore. The shortened versions work in the context of the album. Most essentially, the shortened versions on the discs still convey the main flavor the composers were going for. The melodies and themes remain unchanged.
To sum up, it is true that when i want to actually listen deeply to classical music, this album would never be a choice. I would want to hear the complete works like the composers intended. But at certain times when i simply don't mind about that stuff, when i just need to loosen up and free my mind of stress with some nice melodies, this set does the job well enough.
Last but not least: being a purist and a classical buff, i am very particular about performance quality. I was very glad to find that EMI did not get lazy about this. All the artists are world-class, and all the performances are at least exceptional. Some performances are even quite excellent, like the Clair De Lune, which is one of the best i've heard. (Credit to Dame Lympany, the pianist.)
So once again, recommended for its stated purpose, to relax. I am a purist, a classical buff, and i still enjoy this disc. That says something.

As fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy know, each film exists in two versions: the theatrical one and the extended one that appeared on DVD. This luxurious box set--which also comes with a detailed essay on the movie's musical themes--features the full extended score, so many cues not on the CDs of the individual movies are included. Granted, the majority of listeners will be perfectly happy with the shorter versions of the scores--it's a safe bet that most people can live without hearing, say, Ian McKellen's 35-second-long ditty "The Road Goes Ever On" at the beginning of "Bag End," or Viggo Mortensen's performance of his own composition, "The Song of Lúthien," within the track "The Nazgûl." But if you're a completist and/or a devotee of Howard Shore's pounding tympani and overwhelming choral compositions (featured particularly prominently on disc 3, a large chunk of which is devoted to a battle scene), then this set is a dream come true. Audiophiles should note that the fourth disc, a DVD, offers the score in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Fire up those speakers so the whole shire can hear. --Elisabeth VincentelliAlbum Description
An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar and Grammy winning score compsted by Howard Shore also includes Enya's Oscar nominated "May It Be." For fans of any of The Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings is an essential experience.Customer Reviews:

My only complaint is the somewhat flimsy cardboard box that houses the contents of this musical treasure. Mine came damaged, and considering the price, I expected better packaging. This is a minor quabble on my part and NO, I havent returned it due to the fact that the music itself Is what I truly treasure, It just would have been nicer to have recieved it undamaged.

Amiina not only sound like Arvo Pärt in a music box, they actually play a music box. It's among the thrift-store instruments the Icelandic quartet employs, which include wine glasses, bowed saws, antique synthesizers, and--yes, even the violins, viola, and cello that they originally started with. We've been hearing Amiina for a few years now, adding strings and additional quirkiness to the last few albums by fellow Icelanders Sigur Rós. While Sigur Rós work in epic electric dimensions, Amiina work in the delicate spaces of fragile sounds and folk refrains. On Kurr, their first full-length album, they manage to be quaint and exotic, like a modern vision set in a dusty portrait from the past. Amiina's mixture of classicism and humor owes a debt to the Penguin Café Orchestra. But while the late Simon Jeffe's outfit had the air of erudite wit and debonair grace, Amiina are cuter, musically and visually. Like kids in the attic, they exude a more innocent, yet exploratory charm. Whether plucking pastoral electric guitar lines and singing a schoolyard chant on "Rugla," bowing saws and tapping glockenspiels on "Seoul," or actually playing their classical strings, Amiina enchant like a peek inside an elven gathering under the roots of Yggdrasil. --John DilibertoAlbum Description
Most music lovers first heard of Amiina due to their association with another Icelandic band called Sigur Ros. The girls started working with Sigur Ros in the mid 90's, resulting in their first shows with the band in 1999. The rest, of course, is history, as Amiina became the string players for all of Sigur Ros' subsequent tours and records.Like the sound of cooing, aspects of Amiina's music flicker quietly and float softly, content and beautiful. Kurr is full of dazzling moments of that caliber, a wholly original work that is delicate, intricate and dream-like. Their music is genuinely so special, ineffably charming and infused with a sense of cosmic magic. It's certainly wielded that power on us.

María Huld Markan - violin
Hildur Ársælsdóttir - violin
Edda Rún Ólafsdóttir - viola
Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir - cello
They are best known for their work as Sigur Rós' string quartet on the album known as ( ), as well as Takk... and re-arranged the string work on Ágætis Byrjun so that Sigur Rós could tour it.
Kurr is an eclectic work of great beauty where the simplest sounds become a real basis for making music. The melodies are incredibly simple, both elcetronic ad percussive but they make up a distinct sound somewhat like the music of Rae Howell's Australian group Sunwrae. The overall effect is hypnotic as well as being part of a new minimalism coming out of Northern Europe and Iceland. This is their second release but the first in this minimalist style. Well recommended

My favorite tracks include the first single '30/30-150', The catchy and head bang worthy 'Your God' & of course the World-Wide hit 'Through Glass' featuring deep meaningful lyrics that anyone can find easy to sing-a-long with and relate to. But of all the album one song sticks out most at least in my case the ballad 'Zzyzx Rd.' the vocals by Corey are mezmerizing and the song structure is beyond the rest of this album with an almost 'Oldies' feel. I applaud them for being brave enough to write such meaningful songs and move aside from there Metal roots a bit.
Stone Sour has set the example of what it means to be a Rock`n`Roll group in todays age and has been opening doors between Rock & Metal since the release of there debut album. In my humble opinion Stone Sour are easily one of (if not the) best Hard Rock groups in the scene today. Thank You.

Here we have the ultimate artifact from the bestselling Wow series: Wow #1s: 31 of the Greatest Christian Music Hits Ever. This collection does have some great anthems, but they're the kind of tunes that anyone who's given even a cursory listen to Christian pop radio in the `90s or `00s has heard dozens of times by now. It's hard not to see this release as the result of a zeal on the part of the Wow organization to reduce contemporary Christian music to the sort of bite-sized, sales-driven, best of the best mentality that fuels so much of secular consumer culture. For the most part, the result is a blanched and overproduced mess: very little of the music remotely urban or exciting, almost all of it overly sentimental. Rather than a hearty meal, it's like eating a cake made entirely of frosting. Many if not most of the artists themselves are talented, of course, and if even one more listener can get turned on to the highly personal rock of Rich Mullins or the sublime, beyond-diva-level vocalizings of Nicole C. Mullen, that's never a bad thing. --Mike McGonigalCustomer Reviews:
New Christian?.......2007-03-17
EXCELLENT by BJ.......2007-03-16
We start off on Disc 1 with Steven Curtis Chapman, who's won so many awards and sold so many albums that I almost faint when I hear his accomplishments. This #1, "Dive", is an extremely catchy song. I can't remember the first time I heard it (maybe at a skating rink years back?), but I just know that I've known it for a long time. Excellent song.
Next we have Nichole Nordmeman, who I think is a little bit overrated. Of course she's decent on songs like "Brave" and such, but I have better female singers in my church praise team! "Holy" is definitely a worship song, talking about falling on your knees and singing "holy". Not the best, but good.
Up next comes one of my dad's favorites of all time, Mercyme's "I Can Only Imagine". This song will just make you want to shout because you're so happy! It's a constant reminder that one day we will be going to a better place with Jesus. Incredible vocals--WOW!
Track 4 features BackStreet Boy member Brian Littrell. I was certainly surprised when my sister told me one day that he was coming out with a Christian CD, because I didn't think he was a Christian! However, "In Christ Alone" (formerly done by Michael English... I THINK!) shows off Brian's voice talent--soothing to the soul. The words are amazing.
Next comes FFH's "One Of These Days". This song is pretty good--a catchy one, at least. I'm not that familiar with this group, but I think everybody will like this song.
"Big Enough" from Chris Rice is next, and unfortunately is one that is not my favorite at all. It's just seems boring to me, and his voice doesn't work for me. I've heard some of his songs before, and honestly, they're OK, but this one is dull and makes me wonder how it ever became a #1 hit.
Amy Grant is the next artist on this disc, with her song "Lead Me On". The beginning starts a little strange at first, but then transforms into a faster chorus. The tune is great, and I was very surprised when I found myself singing this one all day. Great job, Amy!
Next in the lineup is my sister's favorite male artist of all time--Mr. Michael W. Smith (sometimes referred to as "Smitty"). His song, "Place In This World", is one of my favorites for this disc. I enjoy his voice very much and thought this song was a definite highlight. Excellent work.
Point Of Grace's "Gather At The River" is next. This is probably the only song I've heard of this all-girl group, but after hearing this song, it seems they're pretty good. Their voices blend perfectly, an ingredient that helped make this song a good one.
"Redeemer" from vocal powerhouse Nicole C. Mullen is an incredible song! It talks about how Jesus has risen and how he lives today, and how he is with us every minute of every day--FANTASTIC WORK!
Next comes my FAVORITE ARTIST OF ALL TIME (YEA!) Everyone please give it up for... AVALON! This quartet is fantastic, and on this album they show off their biggest smash, "Testify To Love". I think this song was the most-played song of the 90s (I THINK!) Anyway, I still love it, and think everyone should give it a listen to.
Anyway, I think you get the picture: this WOW rocks!! All the other artists like Rachael Lampa, Mark Shultz, Jars Of Clay, Newsboys, DC Talk, and more are all incredible.
EXCELLENT WORK--HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

TRUE OPERA LOVERS CANNOT POSSIBLY LIKE THIS!.......2002-11-27
Come on! You can't like crook Pavarotti once you have heard Giuseppe Di Stefano!! You can't like ... connductor Riccardo Muti if you have listened to Arturo Toscanini!!
True opera lovers, especially lovers of Puccini, go for the Immortal, the Sublime, the Beautiful in opera: GO FOR GIUSEPPE DI STEFANO!
Go hear his performance of "E lucevan le stelle" as in EMI Callas/Di Stefano "Tosca" or "Che Gelida manina" always as in EMI Callas/Di Stefano "La Boéme" and you'll know what I mean.
Even if you Hate Complilations, Get This One.......2002-06-21

Just when you thought it was safe to limit your kids' record collection to the complete discographies of Dan Zanes and Ralph's World, the smart and instantly diggable Terrible Twos come along with a batch of tunes as irrepressible and insistent as a toddler at Toys 'R' Us. If You Ever See an Owl, the Kansas act's debut, is all it's been cracked up to be, which is this year's preschool indie smash: Opener "Ladybug" gets liftoff from bright guitars and a vocal by frontman Michael Pryor, formerly of the Get Up Kids, that doesn't land hard but avoids over-softness, too; "A Rake. A Broom. A Mop. A Shovel." benefits from They Might Be Giants-style brilliance in the songwriting department; and more heartfelt songs like "The Littlest Houdini," about Pryor's son, head in a likable emo direction that heretofore hasn't been explored in original kids' music. Rockin' households in which the real-life terrible twos are wreaking havoc, here's your reward. --Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:
