The mixture of traditional Arabic instruments and modern electro sounds mix perfectly. Arabic music speaks volumes and this CD won't disappoint. The modern vibe isn't over the top, neither is the traditional; one piggy-backs the other. A great disc well worth adding to your collection.

A Perfect Blend!.......2007-03-23

Never had I heard a more perfectly put together combination of arabic music with trance. Other compilations "pump up" the electronic part of the music so that the arabic sound is barely audible...not this one!! Here the arab sounds come first and trance is just a companion...
Really enjoyable.

gorgeous.......2003-01-30

For a lover of north african music and of electronic music, this disc is practically perfect. The mixes compliment the songs perfectly. The techno parts aren't too techno to lose the arabic feel, and the tunes without a lot of electronic sound are gorgeous in their own right. My favorite tracks are 2, 3, 13 and 14. While all of the songs on this CD are beautiful, the middle tracks are a bit less distinctive. All in all, this is one of my favorite modern arabic music discs EVER.

A rhythmic mix of passion and commercialism.......2002-12-15

Unlike the previous reviewer, I have lived in the Middle East, North Africa for over ten years and can vouch that a lot of this music is original - although filtered through the 'white man's' idea of world beat /trip/ambient/trance jingly poo...

A couple of tracks really stand out and make the album worth the money: Such as track #13: Sketches of Egypt by Zohar. This guy sings with such feeling that it gives me goosebumps. And one of the best bits of music I have EVER heard. Then track #6:Trance Dance. Just a sweet and smooth love ballad.

I dropped one star due to the excessive techno numbers - unecessary and distracting from the arabesque mystical music that surrounds them.

Check this out, together with the original Arabica. Music that can reach parts of the world not many other 'beers' can reach!

North African Sounds - Excellent!.......2006-03-18

This cd is my first exposure to the Arabica 1, 2 and 3 volumes. I have yet to hear the first 2, but they are already on order!
I enjoy every track on this disc - it seems to have a very ethnic feel including original beats and flavors - engaging techno is splashed thru out several tracks, but the arabic flavor is not lost by any means! My favorites are "Half the Hard Way"; "Your Song" and "Ja Vida" - excellent tracks - Believe it or not, "Half the hard way" seems to almost captivate an arabic / reggae flavor of sorts... uniquely enjoyable - but all tracks seem to have a signature flavor - Highly Recommended!
