Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A good collection of dance tunes..........2007-03-01

I wanted to write something here for this CD since I'd been keeen to hear it for ages based on the other review here. Based on the other description I was hoping for something jaw droppingly beautiful that you don't find too often and I'd be raving to all my friends about and that's not quite what it is. I also love the other Rasa catalogue music I've heard including Samsara, so I was also hoping for something great based on that.

First, it's unmixed, one song fades out and the next starts... I think it takes the work of a genius to pull out a blasting mix where every track merges into the next taking you on a new and exciting journey that unfolds to your delight and you can't wait to go back again. Something Claude Challe does amazingly well on mixes as diverse as Emanuelle and Flying Carpet and also most of his other catalogue. This disc here has more of a 'club' flavour in terms of its selection, although as I say, it's not mixed, it's a collection of songs. They're upbeat, groovy and at times a little funky, a little disco and definately many are club (eg. Bel Amour... which I remember from my clubbing days).

Like club dance CDs I think some of the tracks 'date' and are not as relevant some years in the future, like now. Which is generally unlike some of the mix CDs Challe has created, the mix stands on its own in the future as a piece of work and journey. It's a nice collection of tunes, just not jaw droppingly beautiful. (I put together two list manias I think are 6 out of 5 to save people some time and a lot of money in finding what I think are exceptional CDs - click my reviewer name).

If you're looking for something different that's an awesome dance journey, try Barrio Latino Paris (and then all the other Barrio Latinos). Another hidden gem of a CD with an oriental flavour that will leave you in a state of shock wishing everything you heard could be that good is called Cafe Arabesque (the import one with the higher list and resale price... the reason is it's so good!)

All in all a good Rasa Exotica II is a goood CD, just not in the category of exceptional (like Claude Challes')... 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is an Instant Dance Party..........2003-09-18

Everytime I listen to this CD I am practically entranced into a state of pure bliss, dancing and reflecting along a journey of the world's most soulful house grooves led by Donna D'Cruz, the producer of the Rasa Exotica II compilation. As the follow up to Rasa Exotica I (loved that one too! check www.rasamusic.com for more info!), Rasa Exotica II is everything I hoped it would be and more. With its fresh club vibes, it sounds like the Buddha Bar colliding with Hotel Costes in a Parisan Souk -- crazy I know, but its GREAT! These tunes are guaranteed to burn up the dance floor, the common room/den, the basement, or wherever! Yes, even in front of the mirror when you're home alone (I'm speaking from experience here -- I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). Although it almost sounds cliche, from start to finish, this compilation is a complete party wrapped up into a CD. Even though its very hard to do this, I must say my favorite track is "Sous Le Soleil" by the Major Boys -- it immediately takes me to the beach with a cold Margarita in hand.
Thank you Donna, I love this CD.
