Editorial Reviews

From URB Magazine
Dieselboy is deeply invested in the sci-fi future, and he stakes his claim in the drum & bass game with cyborg sex anthems that rarely dip below 170 BPM. But while Damien Higgins is always looking ahead, he's careful not to leave fans behind. On Project Human, a mix that kicks off his new Human imprint, Philly's favorite combines a track listing that will make trainspotters cream from sharp mixing and an epic trance-inflected drum & bass sound that will drive ravers wild.

Project Human's first mission is to introduce the world to Dieselboy as producer. He premieres five tracks during the mix, including two undulating trance behemoths crafted with Joshua Ryan and two remixes as one-fifth of trance-meets-d&b collective Weapon. Fans are also treated to one absolutely firing adaptation of hip-hop group Styles of Beyond's "Subculture," where Higgins and fellow Philly native Kaos give jump-up jungle bootlegs a run for their money with rough two-stepping beats and excellent use of rap vocals. Diesel the producer is not all that different than Diesel the DJ; cold, hard, fast and furious.

The disc's second purpose is to present the newest tracks possible, and it includes numerous specially commissioned remixes from scene stalwarts like Usual Suspects, Loxy, Fierce and Ryme Tyme. The tunes are uniform quality, but with so many producers from the harder-and-faster side of things remixing each other here, parts of the mix feel like a contest to see which producer can stay hard the longest.

5 out of 5 stars I'm a believer!.......2005-10-25

...give me a second to catch my breath. For someone who isn't huge on drum and bass, this CD absolutely blew my mind! I feel like Damian Higgins has not only introduced me to this genre, but at the same time took me to another planet. Right off the bat with the "movie-guy" voice introducing this CD as if it were a movie, I was immediatly taken to a world not much different than that in Terminator 2. Now about the music. DnB, like I said is new to me, I am still skeptical on buying more, but just for sheer enjoyment, this was memorable. Beats were thrown around like DJ Dieselboy had something to get off his chest. Backbeats were intense, but not nearly as intense as his almost scientific way of laying down perfect rhythm on top of perfect rhythm. The highlight of the album is undoubtedly track #9 "Harder and Faster", which was geniously placed halfway through, seemed to tell me, "this CD is serious, no BS, get ready for the rest of it, you'll need prepartion." Go buy this album, disappointment isn't a question. Note: Hold on to your seats and don't forget to breathe, you'll return to reality in about an hour.

5 out of 5 stars Has an album ever made you forget to breathe?.......2005-03-29

I have listened to this album again and again. One thing still makes me laugh; by the fourth track i am holding my breathe for fear i might disturb the music. This album is a sex-starved cyborg's wet dream. Thumping bass and faster beats, trippier sounds and massive builds, this album is a big mechanical orgasm on compact disc. From the opening movie preview that lays down the massive story, the planetary assault, to the final "intense" moment this cd is a genius work of progressive jungle, it is the only great concept album to come out of drum and bass. It is flawless. Turn on the cd player in your car and drive somewhere. you will break the speed limit.

5 out of 5 stars dieselboypowered speaker blowing project.......2004-08-13

This is the best drum n bass CD i currently own. This beats all of his other cd's, even the dungeonmasters guide. no words describe the feeling you get when you combine the max sound setting on your stereo and this cd together...this is dieselboys best deep-drummin big-bassin style project for the human ear. Buy this and experience nothing less than the best drum n bass...

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as the past but quality.......2004-03-25

honestly i think this album is awsome but dieselboy has completely lost his roots.

but its good

5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2004-03-08

I brought this CD not knowning what I was in for. The cover just attracted me for some reason, and I had to have it. When I listened to it, I was soooo amazed. I have never heard anything like it before. I'd say it pretty much blew me away! It's full of energy and excitement! It'll surely get you pumping and jumping!
