Excellent collection.......2007-04-27

This is another CD recommended by my friend Regina. It is music with a good beat. Not too loud, not too mellow. It makes good listening music, while you are working or working out. I have it playing on my Windows Media Player while I work at my PC.

I walked into a little shop in San Francisco to hear the most incredible sound...after asking the shopgirl what it was she said ocean drive...I could not tear myself away and had to stay and pretend to shop until the whole album had finished! and let me tell you, the first thing i did next was go stright to the music shop
This is one of those unique albums that you spend hours trying to find, but never do. The sounds and songs on this album are so varying and unique but all blend together to create perfection. The playfuly seductive sounds from the various artists are the right fit for so many occasions. Put on your headphones and walk in the sunshine, turn it up during sunset and pour a glass of wine...whatever your mood, whoever you are with, this album will NOT disapoint ... (unless you really like crap music I suppose)

captures a bygone era.......2001-06-18

As a youngster in the back of my Mom and Dad's 1969 Vista Cruise Station Wagon, I remember listening to these tunes all the way from our Winston-Salem, NC home to our rented cottage at Myrtle Beach, SC. It was the mid-seventies, and my Dad was still playing the music that provided the score for his college days - an era that had officially expired a little more than a decade before.

What I have come to learn is that this assortment of R&B tracks is a seminal example of the "Beach Music" tunes that spawned the dance "The Shag" that ruled the NC and SC coasts for the better part of the 1950s and 1960s.

Sailing down Ocean Drive.......2007-05-21

'Ocean Drive' is my favorite of the Lighthouse Collection. I bought this album after having first listened to 'Whatever Gets You Through The Day.' Being a debut album, I expected it to sound unfinished, boy was I wrong. I was surprised though that not many of my friends had heard of these guys, because they're great! Pick it up and enjoy.

One Genre By Itself.......2007-03-21

Lighthouse Family is an English two man band made up of vocalist Tunde Baiyewu and keyboardist Paul Tucker. Ocean Drive is their debut album.

I remember vividly Tunde Baiyewu's voice stopping me literally in my tracks. I remember when Ocean Drive was the number one song on the radio. I remember nights lying in bed at University and listening to the Lighthouse Family and feeling happy and sad and the same time without either emotion topping the other. I remember finding out Tunde is originally Nigerian. I remember my posters of him as my crush. I remember desperately wanting to live on Ocean Drive.

Before Lighthouse Family, I wasn't into the easy listening genre. I didnt quite get what that genre meant. After Lighthouse Family, I understood. It is easy music, soothing, gentle, uplifting and quiet without being boring. And even after I understood the meaning of the genre, no other singer, band or music fits in that category in my mind except Lighthouse Family. For me, they define the genre.

Tunde's voice is a mix of clouds and melted chocolate; airy, heavy, luxurious and hypnotic at the same time.

Some songs are stonger than the others. 'Ocean Drive' is a classic. Paul's beginning strains to that song will stop me anywhere, many years later.
'Lifted' is like a gospel choir song but it is so great, fun to dance to and the lyrics are inspiring.
'Loving Every Minute' is great to sing along to and to lightly bob your shoulders to.
'The Way You Are' is a gentle tune with positive lyrics.
'Keep Remembering' is a blues-y oldie kind of song you will fall in love with.
and 'What Could Be Better' is another fun, earthy, slow but wonderful song.

The rest of the songs are good. Tunde's voice can probably redeem anything.

Something incredible happening.......2005-08-04

This debut album by the Lighthouse Family is one of those compilations that will slowly grow on you. I was actually introduced to this group through their second album, but this album shows where the quality originated.

Unique and beautiful are words that come to mind when describing songs like 'Lifted' and 'Ocean Drive'. The overall album is set out to near perfection.

Recommended to anyone interested in plain good music.

Favorite .......2005-05-22

I expect to be listening to this album / artists in 25 years time. Although the music/words sometimes run 'deep' it is light hearted, uplifting and has tunes you will sing all through the day. A family favorite. One wants to sway to to many songs and others put your dancing shoes on and yet it is amazingly the type of album you can just sit at sunset and relax to. Even our elementary age kids love it and we played it all through a family vacation in Mexico, playing it non-stop for 10 days. I created a heritage DVD memory collection for my dad's 70th and each 'branch' of the family tree chose a favorite to incorporate. We chose 'Lifted' and 'Heavenly'!

I bought this cd... [and] played the track Ocean Drive for me with the purpose of elevating my mood. All I can say is that I am thrilled I made the purchase. It is the perfect CD to relax to or to go for a long drive to. You will NOT be sorry when adding this cd to your collection!!!!!!

Slightly dissappointed.......2001-08-24

The music was definitely some of James Last's usual finest with selections I had wanted for some time; namely "Orange Blossom Special", "Hip Hop Polka", "Morgens um sieben" and a most beautiful and romantic "Titanic". What I was dissappointed in was the recording quality itself. I didn't think it compared to his "Happy Birthday" or his "Concerts" CD's. Since it is his newest recording, I had thought it would. And I would have liked it better if the selections hadn't been tied together with what seemed to be phoney applause. I liked the audience response in his live concerts but it didn't do anything for this TV-Special.

Mad About The Park in a good way.......2005-04-06

I have had the Lenny B. remix for gee...well a long time, the remix is smooth, and has a nice elegant beach wind blowing feel with a great disco and uptempo rhythm, the remix is about 6 min in length, but you will crave more. I do not however have the other mixes on this maxi single so I can't give my honest opinion, but the craving has now stopped, with the soon to be released "More Than This via Lenny Bert. again" This song takes you down another Ave. with the same Lenny B. feeling, if you do not know of Lenny Bertoldo, then you are missing out on some fantastic remixes he has released. I strongly suggest this remix CD, and look for the next release, I hope that The USA will be given the opportunity to have a domestic release issued. This is a talent to keep an eye on, she is beautiful, talanted, and has a voice that is just the same.

A day on "Ocean Drive".......2001-04-25

From time to time, I listen to JazzFM and this time they played cuts from their new CD "Ocean Drive." I immediately felt myself driving along the California coast through Pebble Beach. I felt the wind blowing through my hair and the sun on my skin. That's what a good jazz CD can do; take you to another place. This is a compilation disc that includes all the best songs from CDs that may only have one good hit. How many times have you brought a CD only to be disappointed by it's content. You won't have to worry with this one. This is a great CD and any one who loves smooth jazz will love this CD. Give it a test drive. Enjoy!
