A rising star amidst the Paul Oakenfold school of techno-trance out of London, Dave Ralph's sequel to Oakenfold's 1998 Tranceport mix takes a selection of the familiar and obscure, then shakes, stirs, and pours a serious groove cocktail. The first CD of the double set takes a more familiar path, charting a course through Sasha, Jam & Spoon, and Luke Slater and keying on a distinctly darker dance-floor vibe. Ralph stretches out these tracks, inserting short bursts of atmosphere and tension-building moments of ambience before breaking out the drum loops. The second CD is more direct while making use of a wider and wilder palette, throwing house-flavored beats around like streaks of finger paint in a classroom full of kindergartners. Make no mistake, however, about Ralph's intent. While creating an irresistibly danceable template, the relentless patterns and hypnotic rhythms of both CDs work to create, as the best trance does, a deeper vibe that only reveals itself with time and/or high-quality headphones. The breaks that Ralph engineers are always ideal lulls, allowing the listener's feet to not so much rest as levitate. These little fragments, as found in the second CD's "Toca Me" (by Fragma) or the first CD's Jam & Spoon track, "Stella," give pause and texture to an awfully impressive mix. Definitely a welcome record for those with an affinity for tireless dance-floor drama. --Matthew Cooke

My Reason.......2005-05-27

This CD was the reason I started listening to electronica and even today it is still one of the best out there. I bought this on a whim back in high school, basically b/c it was on sale and the store was going out of business. I had heard electronica or 'techno' music before but never really thought much of it. That all changed once I heard this CD and I knew I could never hear electronica the same way again. This CD is everything a good CD should be, beautiful and epic, moving and hard-hitting (and each of these comes in there appropriate place). The mixing is spot-on except for a few tracks but the tracks themselves are all amazing. The first disc starts off with Rabbitweed and in my opinion peaks with Arms of Orion (though it never falls frrom this peak, it just stays [like your head] dreamily in the clouds]. I lost the second disc so I have forgotten much of what it sounds like but I can remember alternating the discs and not being able to find a favorite. A must for any fan of the genre.

One to grow on.......2005-05-10

Great follow up to Oakie's Tranceport by European dj,Dave Ralph.This cd takes awhile but it eventually will grow on you.This is very dark/progressive trance that's not for beginners.Cd 1 is kinda lame,sounding more like house than trance in my opinion,so I choose to avoid it.I must give 5 stars to the 2nd one,because it's what I call "otherworldly trance"If your really a dance/trance fan and I mean,really ...go get this one.

good but not great........2004-05-05

this is the second installment of the famed transport series that was started by the infamous Paul Oakenfold. As sequels go, some are good and some aren't. There will NEVER be another tranceport like Oakey's, however, this is a good mix. I wasn't sure, since it was so old and I've heard most of the songs well, whether to give it 3 or 4 stars. As a follow up it is good. The format is extended to two discs and Oakenfold's influence is a big part of this compilation. This disc significantly differs from his later offerings (e.g. naturalized). Dave Ralph has moved into the world of minimalist trance that started with Digweed's Los Angeles release, which imho is still the best. As for this selection, if you like the older trance and a good dose of euphoria, then I would get it. If you want the latest music look elsewhere as you may feel this selection is dated with played out tunes. I give it 4 stars because I like uplifting music and having recently listened to renaissance one with Sasha and Digweed I feel that though this comp. does not approach the greatness of that set, it does give me a better feel for how the music was mixed and hence the 4 stars. please rock the vote and happy listening :)

A welcome addition to the Dave Ralph saga.......2004-03-08

Though not quite as deep and eerie as the smash "Resident Alien" disc,this two disc set is true to Dave Ralph's sleek and subtle style. Again, the tracks are often excessively long, but this is (in my opinion) necessary to achieve Dave's sort of twisted dream-world vision. Unlike "Resident Alien," there are a few memorable trance tunes that stick out in the mix due to more traditionally prominent melodies and vocal pieces. Sparkling and haunting, crystal clear sounds with a hard-hitting drive to keep it moving along. More dark and minimalist compared to "Naturalized," but slightly more melodic and mainstream than "Resident Alien." Another winner from this man of somewhat unusual taste.

great cd to escape from your own head. definately cant help but to close your eyes and move to this one.
