If it wasn't for the revolutionary artwork, it would be easy to suspect that the Chemical Brothers were parodying their roles as electronic musicians with that album title. After all, people have accused the genre of sounding redundant for years. But while contemporaries like the Prodigy and Fatboy Slim fall by the wayside, on their fifth studio album Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons sound positively reinvigorated, as the dreamy textures of 2002's Come With Us give way to a set of sharper, more focused songs, from the politically charged "Left Right" to the wide-screen "Close Your Eyes." It's epic stuff, particularly when A Tribe Called Quest rapper Q-Tip magically appears to give lead-off track "Galvanize" a vintage hip-hop kick. Musicians.......2007-05-18

I've been a Chemical Brothers fan ever since I heard "The Sunshine Underground" from a friend of mine. Really, that was the only song of theirs I owned and had every listened to until I got curious about the Budweiser Select commercial. After a quick google search, I was floored that the artists who wrote the song on the commercial that I was groovin' to were the Chemical Brothers, which led me to check out the CD and make the purchase as soon as possible. Note: the sample song previews on Amazon do not do the songs justice, the tracks on the CD soar above and beyond what any clip could provide. The Chemical Brothers' effort on this CD pays off with true works of art. They have such thick, lush layers of percussion creating something new to listen to almost every time you listen to a song while still relating everything to the pulsing bass which defines their music. The pieces on this CD are extremely busy in a very good way, and I have kept this CD within easy reach since I bought it half a year ago. These are genre-bending artists, and this CD is a wonderful purchase.

The urgent political message from Anwar Superstar on Left Right is the cornerstone to this ambitious project from The Chemical Brothers.

Galvanize is a classic merging of pop sensibilities with an infectious, signature rhythm. Boxer is pure 1970s funk, but the sonic overload of Come Inside & The Big Jump - the layers of sounds merge into a clubland tour-de-force - demonstrates how an ambitious electronic vision can be accomplished in the studio.

Believe & Hold Tight London pack solid grooves, while Surface To Air would arguably be the top choice on a CD not packed with so many solid cuts.

But it's Left Right that propels Push The Button. If you have any concern at all with the perverse drama of the world stage, the song will make you sit down & think. And that means The Chemical Brothers ultimately did push the right button.

rather disappointing.......2007-01-03

I am rather disappointed by this album. I bought it, since I am a huge fan of "push the button" and its remixes and expected that the rest of the album was following the style.

I've listened to all their albums a million times, and this album has to be their best. Unlike most bands that lose their edge over time, this album is like throwing pine needles on the camp fire, because it is hot!

Excellent Chemical Brothers Album!.......2006-10-10

This was worth the wait. Their follow-up to the slammin' Come With Us, has that same Chemical Brothers' sound, without being formulaic or stale.
I've been a fan for years and am always pleased with their offerings.
I've turned some of my younger professors on to the Chems as music to code to. Launch your developer, pop in the CD, or launch iTunes and code on.
This has almost replaced Surrender as my favorite Chemical Brothers' album.

No finish line in sight........2001-08-22

I first heard about Henry Mancini while he was doing the Peter Gunn series with Blake Edwards. That music was so lively, that I began paying attention to this Mancini person. It wasn't long before my record cabinet began to swell with his music. My wife asked if there was anyone else out there recording. I said, probably, but who cares? Then, in 1965, The Great Race was released. Of course I purchased the album, and played it literally to death. That was thirty-six years ago, and I still play that record, or the tape I made of it. Now, it's available on CD. That's a no-brainer. I attended several concerts that Henry gave from 1966 to 1981. I was never disappointed. I met him and talked with him several times. He was a most gracious, and patient man. He is sorely missed on the cinema and popular music scenes. His music will live for many eons, and The Great Race will always be in my heart and head.

Did Henry Mancini ever write a bad soundtrack? This one shows his incredible range, from the romantic (and Oscar nominated) "Sweetheart Tree", to the livelier "He Shouldn'ta Hadn'ta Oughtn'ta Swang on Me" and "Pie-in-the-Face Polka." In between, there's a royal waltz, Professor Fate's ominous theme "Push the Button, Max" and a title piece that manages to work in every All-American tune from "America the Beautiful" to "Dixie."

All in all, great music for a fun movie.

One of Mancini's best film scores.......2000-04-27

This is one of the all-time favorites among Mancini's fans: when it was reviewed at the HM site "Henry Mancini Forum", it won the best comments. It is filled with music for slapstick scenes, marches, a waltz, a lullaby, a beautiful love theme (with lyrics by Johnny Mercer) and Dorothy Provine's (who plays saloon singer Lily Olay) funny interpretation of "He Shouldn't-a, Hadn't-a, Oughtn't-a Swang On Me". A great score for probably the most expensive (and longest) road movie ever made.

The soundtrack is as wacky as the Blake Edwards movie........1999-11-16

I have the LP a very rare find. I am happy that it is finally in cd form. It is Mancini at his silly best. The only problem I have with this album is the Pie Fight Polka is not as long as the pie fight in the movie. That and the song The Lover Tree is just too sickening. Overall, it kicks. If you liked the movie you'll want this sountrack.

Some of the grooviest music you never heard.......2005-08-27

Money Mark's first album is an introduction of a talented member of a band (Beastie Boys) doing his "own thing." I can't really describe it as being one genre. Mark did many things on this album, it's half instrumental, and half pop and blues songs. I like the whole album, but I skip through the songs depending on the mood I'm in. It's a gem in my collection of over 300 cd's. If you're just totally into Beastie Boys, you'll probably not like this album, but if you have an open mind for blues, old school groove, and instumentals, you might find this is an album worth adding to your collection.

A Great Little Pop Record.......2003-06-28

First off, I just have to say that "All the People" is a TOTAL [copy] the song "Soulsville" by Issac Hayes. But that's not exactly a bad thing. Overall, the album is an excellent collection of pop ditties and instrumentals. I bought this CD knowing a little bit about his work with the Beastie Boys, but Money Mark is an even better solo artist, making each song sound fresh and interesting. A lot of critics note the artist's variety in instrumentaton and genres, but his work is never incoherent or overbearing to the listener. I play this album on lazy afternoons and night drives, sometimes back-to-back. I don't think I'll get tired of this album anytime soon.

A nice change of pace........2006-10-16

After many full length listens,sometimes you want to switch it up with the occasional ep. This one proves to be a solid collaborative piece.

"360" Degrees was the popular single put together by push button objects. It featured known commodities Mr Lif,Del,along with Dj Craze to help out with the production. This is more of a mini compliation,rather than a typical ep. It contains the original,five remixes and two instrumentals. The list of artist/producers who did the remixing is more impressive than the original track. A rare collective such as this is worth your interest alone,and there something for everyone. It's definitly interesting to see how each artist applies their own style to the track. My favorite has to be the version by Prefuse,who steals the show with his unique blend. If you liked how his sound worked in "Blacklist" with MF Doom you should feel this.(the prefuse track is exclusive to this cd,I highly recommend this for heads looking to find all of his work on wax) I also loved Dj Spinna's lush and smooth interpretation of the song. The rest are done very well,but just a notch under the other two in my opinion,but of course that varies from each listener. I was not turned off by any of the versions,even Elp's polarizing abstract harshness. The instrumental,along with the b-side "Breaker's Delight" which appeared on the twelve inch also make for good listening.

This project won't be as appealing to fans who just like lyrics. I believe beat heads who like different styles can find a greater appreciation in it. However,it can't be rated more than 3 stars for this same reason. It's a remix cd with the same lyrics,which makes it just a really good novelty,instead of anything more. I wouldn't go so far to call this a "must have" for a fan of any of these artists,except maybe prefuse. But it is a solid treat for your collection,especially if you can cop it up at a decent price.

Mr. Lif + DEL = HEAT.......2005-04-27

If you know whats good for you, you'll surley check this out. Nothing beats Mr. Lif's crazy delivery:

Warning: Too catchy!!.......2005-12-23

I admit that when I first heard the song I was disappointed, it just sounded bland. Then after hearing it more and more, it just stuck in my head, and I started to love it. It became the girls biggest hit by reaching #1 in the UK and staying there for 3 weeks. It's also a huge European smash, and spent many weeks at #1 in the Eurochart Top 100 Singles.

This is a great song with a great video. I didn't like the Sugarbabes when they first came out, but they have grown on me and I have liked most of their songs for a while now, but this one is definitely a favourite.

Take three lovely girls, dressed in three hot outfits; add a lift, three cute guys, and a funky song with great dancing, poppy lyrics and a whole heap of fun.

It's a great song, nothing mind shattering about it, you can dance to it, sing along with it or just simply enjoy the beat which is really catchy.

The Sugarbabes have come a long way, let's hope they can keep it up.

I saw the video for "Push the Button" on a recent trip to Italy....I'm not sure MTV will play it here in the states....
but "Push the Button" is a great, catchy pop song. I purchased the enhanced CD for the video...it's half the fun!!!
Hopefully enough of us will buy this CD so that Sugarbabe Mutya Buena can buy some long pants for the upcoming winter months.
You have to see the video to catch that one. Well worth the $12.99 American.

An excellent exploration of Arlen.......1999-07-20

Julie Wilson offers another masterclass performance of songs by Harold Arlen with his numerous lyricists. Arlen's name is not as well known as some of his contemporaries, but his talents as a songwriter were magnificent. Julie Wilson and William Roy mine the Arlen songbook to produce an album of sterling quality, delivering delightful duets on such gems as 'Push De Button' and 'Lydia The Tattooed Lady'. Wilson offers brilliant readings of ballads and rhythm songs, capturing the mood and flavour of each song perfectly. Her sensuous take on 'Last Night When We Were Young' is particularly compelling. Roy's piano embellishments are, as ever, full of wit, sensitivity and formidable musicianship. A stunning offering.

Where is the warning label for Copy Control Disc?.......2005-03-24

How would I rate this album? I can't tell because I can't listen to it.

Copy Control technology -- look it up on the net -- they can not even technically call this a Compact Disc as it does not adhere to the format standards. I think Amazon.ca should be required to notify people that the album they are selling features this technology and will not play on your computer (without adding their software), nor can you get it onto your ipod.

Letters to EMI have gone unanswered so this is how I will show my displeasure -- I will not buy another EMI Canada disc so long as they use this technology. I'd rather eat the import premiums than give them another penny. Coldplay, Ben Harper, Chemical Bros

Consistently good........2005-03-03

I thought this was great. If you listen to this album and think to yourself that dance music is dead, then maybe you shouldn't have bought this to add to your music collection which I'm sure consists of every Much Dance compilation ever made. Britney Spears ain't got s#!T on this! But seriously, if you've liked all the other albums that the Chem. Bros. have put out, you should like this as well. It's not revolutionary, but I'd take more of the same provided it's good over an experimental album full of crap *cough* newest prodigy album *cough*.

Pushing Buttons, not boundaries.......2005-03-02

Being a relatively small fan of techno, but owning 2 previous CD's of the Chem's "DYOH" and "come with Us", this CD has probably the least amount of good songs comparitively speaking.

Two very good tracks,"the boxer" a great dance beat, with the best vocal performance on the the disc, and "Hold Tight London" although you have to get thru the mediocre beginning and ending.

There a number of good songs here. "galvanize","believe","come inside" being the strongest of the rest. But nothing else really stands for being new and exciting.

The Chem's have two rap songs on the record which is something a bit new, but it isn't a rap CD. This is still a good dance CD, keeping that in mind, its still a techno CD. The bros. produce another solid 2/3's of a CD, which in my opinion is good, but how about a record that strays away a lot more from dance music, or beats. Something that could be considered an album of the year.
The last three tracks are too forgetable for me to rate this a very good CD.

Poor Effort........2005-02-09

I picked up the CD for 1 reason and that was the opening track "Galvanize". Great track with Q-Tip and Morroccan samples added to the Chemicals trademark thumps. Then I listened to the rest of the album and was dissapointed by all the songs. Nothing new and no substance to any of the remaining songs. This has finally made me realise that DANCE MUSIC IS DEAD.

Their best since Dig Your Own Hole.......2005-01-29

The album starts with Galvanize, one of the best tunes the duo has come up with to date and waits a couple of songs to hit you with Believe, destined to be a huge dance club anthem come this summer. There is a little bit of filler on the disc, but not much. It may not equal Dig Your Own Hole, but it is far superior to Come With Us and a fair bit better than Surrender. It's great that the Bros. are still around, they are seriously needed in the dance clubs right now.

Ghetto Blaster, the second LP from Edgar Farinas, a.k.a. Push Button Objects, is hard to isolate from the current situation of independent hip-hop as a whole, given the record's supporting cast. Mr. Lif, Vast Aire, the Anticon collective, Del the Funkee Homosapien, Aesop Rock -- these emcees are key figures in indie rap's swiftly-solidifying hierarchy, and their ubiquitous presence on various compilations and collaborations has, at worst, brought the scene back to a state of pre-Cold Vein predictability. On Ghetto Blaster, the guest vocalists hit each track without breaking career stride: dope, creative rhymes, but nothing you haven't heard from this group before. But to dismiss the record on these grounds would be to mistake text for context, an unfair slight to Farinas, who brings serious skills to the boards throughout.

Push Button Objects makes beats for producers and for emcees, and compromises nothing on either side. "Hustlin'," Ghetto Blaster's opening track, flows from robotic chaos to Shadow-y sampling and atmospherics, a testament to the eclectic sound that runs throughout the album. The next two tracks, and especially the spare "Fly," bring the kind of beats that I imagine emcees hear in their dreams, beats that couldn't possibly stand without a crew getting together for a cipher session. PBO also knows how to match production to his featured vocalists, best exhibited on the Anticon cut "3 Doctors" and "Shut Down," which pits Aesop Rock against a beautiful guitar track.

For the most part, the instrumental tracks succeed as stand-alone productions, ranging from the haunting "Sleep" to the old-school electro of "Breaker's Delight." Ghetto Blaster ends with "Washington Ave.," which chops the urban congestion of "Hustlin'" into a serene head-nodder that perfectly sums up Push Button Object's sonic balance. The record, in the context of the hip-hop underground's present moment, isn't anything revolutionary, just hip-hop at its essence -- rhymes and hot beats.
