The way all music should sound.......2005-01-28

What a supurb album. Warp are without a doubt the most important label in the business. I have to be honest, I was expecting this to be perhaps a little self-indulgent and difficult to listen to, but it is not. The album is drenched in emotive beuty with cool as beats. This is the way all music should sound. Standout track: coming into something better (a difficult choice in an album with no fillers and loads of great tracks). Almost so good it is frustrating.

More accessable than "One Word Extinguisher".......2003-09-08

When I first purchased Prefuse's first offering on the Warp label (which turned out to be a very pleasant surprise, as I was anticipating a sound more Warp-ish, that is before they began to dabble in hip-hoppery), I was floored by that amazing concoction of heavily-processed hip-hop samples and analogue synths. I found this sort of sound the perfect marriage between the grooves of hip-hop and the complexity of IDM (or whatever you feel like calling it). I was extraordinarily happy when I found out that Prefuse was releasing a follow up album. I was even more happy when I found out that he was coming through Atlanta on his CD release tour. Though the show was the best I had ever been too, and though I actually listened to many of the tracks before they were released, I found that I was somewhat dissapointed. I was expecting another "Vocal Studies," or, in other words, an offering where the clicking and processing of samples deferred to the driving hip-hop groove. Though this, in my opinion, was reversed in "One Word," "Extinguished" appears to carry on the more focused direction that was found in "Vocal Studies." In this album, which proclaims itself to be "Alternate Takes and Beats from One Word Extinguisher," the songs progress in a gloriously rump-shaking manner. There are absolutely amazing tracks which, fortunately for us, capture the direction of "Vocal Studies," the mania of "One Word," and the analogue playfulness of both. And the album, or EP rather, is just plain fun to listen to throughout. Again, I find this EP to be much more accessable than "One Word," and I will almost certainly be listening to "Extinguished" much more than I will "One Word." Prefuse 73, please keep up the good work.

this album is a little different, it reminds me of 92 vs 02. its pretty much just instrumental. But prefuse is insane, he has some of the most creative beats put together. This album is done beautifully, that is why i say check it out. very intelligent cd, i dig prefuse 73.

Finland has turned out a remarkable number of great composers in the past 100 years, and this collection is a terrific introduction to several of them. From Rautavaara's Concerto for Birds and Orchestra through Nordgren's glowing and homespun "Fiddler's Favorite Tune" to Sibelius's stormy "Storm" and Merikanto's lushly Romantic Lento, this CD enchants consistently. Nature is omnipresent in Finnish music, and that's about the only stereotype one can find here, although all of these composers were obviously well-schooled in the music that preceded them--one can catch a bit of Debussy here, a hint of the Russian romantics there. In any case, this is ravishing and highly recommended. --Robert Levine

When I heard through Warp records that Prefuse 73 had an outtakes record coming out I became so excited I could hardly contain myself. I felt like a little kid again; all fresh and WOW! Prefuse 73 embodies the progression of musical expressions so delighted and high on this excitement and love for beats. "Extingushed" is like all Scotty's choicest cuts and re-cuts from "One Word." A fully integrated flow beat tape all mixed like it's one fat zone ta be in thir-tee. Folks who dig anything from jazzy beats to indie rock to beat hedz to hip hop invigorations will fall deep into this fat zone. And all you Prefuse heds out there who dig his steady grooves like "afternoon love in" and "choking you" and stuff in the sweet likeadagroove mellow holmes love. "Extinguished" is a must for you. Check it out. This is FRESH! Ok I have to mention a few standout songs, first of which is "pase rock's freestyle" which begins with the only raps on the record. Man, he flows in soft vocal samples with a Moog frenzied synth bass-like line that trippifies the signature Prefuse 73MPC fatty love beat that freakifies your booty moving highness. Track 24, "drum machine, cello, headwrap" is a gorgeous mix that's so sexy and just right outta the heart; it'll get you so high you'll forget where you are. Ayiit, So check this out everybody! Peace.

The second release from Evick may only be 5 tracks but they are all hits. thier anthem "this anit the life" simply rocks and will have you singing along in no time. the other big hit off the album is "Elvis", they do a great job in expressing thier emotion and love of music. yo can't go wroung with this one.
