4 out of 5 stars Best of Gazebo compilation, nice work BMG........2006-12-28

I own Gazebo's 1983 debut album "I Like Chopin" on original CD released by the Italian label Baby Records (long out-of-print and worth major, major $$$$$)! In my opinion, this is the best Gazebo compilation released by BMG International because it contains mostly "untouched" original tracks - and of course all the songs from Gazebo's second album titled "Telephone Mama". Don't worry, you won't get the usual annoying updated techno-house style versions either because this compilation retains all of its classic 80's Italo Disco beats. Also included are some nice original b-side instrumentals as karaoke sing alongs. This is truly a sought after album and soon to be a collectible as prices are rising quickly, get it while you can.

P.S.
His real name is Paul Mazzolini, [full blooded] Italian but born in Beirut (02-18-1960) because his father was a diplomat.

4 out of 5 stars good for the casual listener, but uncomplete.......2000-07-25

This collection have all the 8 tracks from Gazebo's self-titled 1983 album + 6 from the 8 tracks of his 2nd album "Telephone Mama" from 1984. Well, actually, this is not so bad because you have on one single disk most of the great stuff he has done anyway but In my opinion, they should have put all the tracks from the 2nd album instead of two instrumental versions. I mainly think about the track "Solitaire" which is not included here and still very melodic with great analog synth.

If you can afford it, you should buy the "I like Chopin" CD + the "Collection" compilation .

3 out of 5 stars poppy. early 80's synthesizer beat. fun stuff!.......1999-09-11

Gazebo got big during the early 80's due to his hit single "I like Chopin". He's a half Italian song writer(singer, musician) and Gazebo is his real name! His music is pop with a strong electric (synthesizer beat, etc)sound. Most people have heard some elevator version of "I like Chopin", but they probably never bothered to findout who actually wrote it! Listen to the song. It is very beautiful! The rest of the songs on this album such as Lunatic, Telephone Mama, Masterpiece, Love in your eyes, For Anita, has a very Gazebo-original sound. Interesting lyrics as well. I was a big fan when i was a kid. If you like really poppy stuff, here's one for ya.

5 out of 5 stars Simply superb dance music !.......2007-03-18

Superb! That's the only word I find to qualify this excellent compilation. Once you buy it, stop listening to it becomes impossible. The day it arrived I listened to it three times in a row. I've known only "I like Chopin" from the 80's, I think no other music from Gazebo has been played on radio in Brazil during all these years. I simply got astonished because all the other musics from this cd are quite so good as "I like Chopin". And I finally could get a original version of this classic song, both single edit and the LP version. I only had the remix version from the 90's. I really loved "Wrap the rock", "Gimmick", "For Anita" and "Telephone Mama". Although the price of 29 dollars plus shipping and the 60% tax I paid to my country's customs it was completely worthy awhile. Thanks for Amazon and Gazebo for this really enjoyable cd !

5 out of 5 stars A very good collection.......2006-03-30

This collection features the original first two albums by Gazebo, "Gazebo" and "Telephone Mama" which are hard to find in cd! It miss only one song "Strategy" which has been replaced by the original radio version of "I Like Chopin". The best tracks in my opinion are: "I Like Chopin", "Telephone Mama", "Masterpiece" and "First". People who'll buy this compilation will understand what a great and original lyricist Gazebo is! Ok the music is italo-disco but that's what italian producers wanted in Italy for artists who sung in english at that time. Gazebo speak good english as he grew up all around europe and went in english school! He also released other 4 studio albums, then became producer for east-european artists.
By the way there are voices he'll be back! If only singer-songwriter like Gazebo had the freedom to express themselves we could hear good music!
