Tank, on Sex, Love & Pain, is like Luther Vandross only slightly lewder: He'll be the first to admit, as he does on the three-part opening track "Coldest," that he's "somewhat of a hustler out here on the street... occasional strip clubs and shots of Hennessy." That doesn't stop him from laying his heart on the line, though. Repeatedly. Midtempo grooves like "I'm Coming Home," a hopeful reunion song, and "Heartbreaker," a limber-voiced lament that outlines a crumbled relationship, show Tank's tender side and take the romantically inclined places more real-seeming than Luther's songs. Throughout the long lineup of love-gone-wrong tracks, the brawny guy with the tattooed back doesn't forget his playful side, either. Before Timbaland sidles up and gets closing track "I Love Them Girls" all trademark-sizzly, Tank does some titillating of his own via the sexed-up steamer "My Body." --Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:
SOLID.......2007-07-25
I don't know many brothas that can sing with as much emotion and range as Tank. Hands down, other than Joe and Eric Benet, Tank is what the game needs more of. Like I've heard one person say already - this my generation is into the catchy young hip-hop layered beat with these simple hooks. I'm cool with it, but people don't sing anymore. I mean - there is no distinction between most young artist, and few of them have longevity in the game. Tank shows versatility, range, and style by jumping the cd off like I haven't heard since 112 at their prime. I mean, the opening track shows you some crazy vocals. No offense to the otha brothas - but I have yet to pop in a Chris Brown, Lloyd, Marques Houston, Omarion, or WHOEVER's CD and been wowed by the vocals talent and depth. I've heard many people do their songs better than it was recorded... and Tank doesn't even give you a chance - many people try and fail horribly.. LOL!
My personal favorites are: "Coldest","My Body" "Please Don't Go", "Heartbreaker", and "When"
There is one part that upsets me about this - I was mad that Blackground didn't take the time to separate the Intro - which is BEASTLY. I mean Tank opens up w/fire reminiscent of when people did interludes. He also reaches some ungodly note when he segways into "Heartbreaker" (which also should've had a interlude to it). The unfortunate thing about it was Joe had a banging CD and Musiq did as well... not to mention Trey Songz and Mario are also highly anticipated projects. So this year for male R&B singer - he has competition. I think that if Tank worked with some other producers and really diversified his CD and made it one of those albums that you can't skip a song, he would be in there! He gets 3 stars alone off of his talent! And another star because of some beast "interludes" and infectuous melodies of some of his songs. It's a solid CD - I haven't taken it out of the disc changer since I got it... It's worth tha money!

Album Description
"Everything Is Illuminated" is the directorial debut of actor Liev Schrieber and an adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's best-selling novel. A blend of high comedy and great tragedy, the film tells the story of a young American man, played by Elijah Wood (The Lord of The Rings trilogy), who journeys to the Ukraine to find the woman whom he believes saved his grandfather from the Nazis all those years ago.The soundtrack features two new songs from high energy New York City based gypsy punks Gogol Bordello, including one track not on their current cd. (Note: Gogol Bordello's lead singer plays a role in "Everything Is Illuminated"). Also included are gypsy folk songs from Russia and the Ukraine by Leningrad, Arkadie Severmie, Csokolom and Tin Hat Trio. And finally, Paul Cantelon's ethnic score ties together this nicely cohesive soundtrack.

A wacky classic.......2007-07-18
Marvelous.......2007-06-13
1. Odessa Medley: 9/10 - Enjoyable, with fun instruments. It builds up into an intricate array of instruments and melodies, and really picks up at the end, tempting you to let it sweep you along into the movie's crazy world. A great overture to the movie.
2. Leningrad, Zvezda Rok-N-Rolla: 8/10 - Oh, the drama! Leningrad is a Russian band. All of their songs on this album are crazy and fun and fit the craziness of the movie to a T. The horns are wonderful.
3. Csokolom, Amari Szi Amari: 10/10 - Superbly catchy, with that quirky, old feel dominant in the film, this song is a laidback sort of fun. It's the only song on the album not in Ukrainian, Russian, or English: it's Hungarian. This doesn't matter, however, because it fits so perfectly with the feel of the movie.
4. Leningrad, Dikiy Muzhchina: 10/10 - I LOVE this song. It's one my favorites here. The title means "Wild Man" in Russian, and it is definitely a very wild and (dare I say it again?) fun song. The lyrics really are just plain fun to sing along to, even if you don't speak Russian. You can practically feel the energy. In fact, I just now started to sing to it again...
5. Prologue/Babushka: 9.5/10 - This is where a darker mood begins to edge in. It sinks into a waltz that is more bittersweet than tragic, and then slows down to make way for a sweeping, haunting tune. Lovely.
6. Little Jonathan/The Wall: 9/10 - Playful, but once more in a bittersweet sort of way. After awhile it switches gears, swooshing up with energy, befores changing back to that haunting feeling of "Babushka" that I like to think of as simply The Past.
7. Gogol Bordello, Bublitschki: 8/10 - Time for some fun again. This instrumental piece by an immensely talented band (actually, Eugene Hutz, who plays Alex, is the lead singer of Gogol Bordello) mixes an irresistible beat with a traditional Slavic sound.
8. The Con Artists, Peter Miser, Ya-takoy: 9/10 - This definitely brings one back to the silliness of Alex in the beginning of the film. With snippets of his unbelievably hilarious dialogue and an urban beat going in the background, you'll be sucked right in.
9. Leningrad, Malen'kiy Mal'chik: 9/10 - Great fun! Leningrad never fails to entertain with this lazy collection of horns and vocals.
10. Tin Hat Trio, Fear of the South: 8/10 - Here's a piece to relax to. It's lighthearted and fresh.
11.Paul Cantelon, River of Collections: 9/10 - With breathy strings, "River of Collections" urges you quietly but with instistence along the river of The Past.
12. Paul Cantelon, Tank Graveyard/Valse de Suzana/Dee-yed: 9.5/10 - Here is the tragedy I've been referring to. It's sad. Almost unbearably so. It sweeps you up in the conflict of the characters, teasing you with peaks at the truth before fading back into the darkness.
13. Paul Cantelon, Sunflowers: 10/10 - Ukrainian, I believe. Haunting, with strong vocals that cast a spell.
14. Paul Cantelon, War Is Love/eta-Ya: 9.5/10 - It begins with lazy simplicity, but toward the end bursts into a powerful and urgent message.
15. Paul Cantelon, Trachimbrod/Ressurection/Requiem: 10/10 - Simply beautiful. About halfway through, the urgency of the previous tracks finally builds up for the climax, whooshing over you bitterly, sadly, and with almost a sense of determination. Again, it's tragic. You don't hear the lightheartedness of previous tracks, but the slight nudging of a past that doesn't want to haunt: it just wants to resolve itself. To exist.
16. Paul Cantelon, Inside-Out: 10/10 - And it does resolve itself. Here is another bittersweet piece. But this time, it carries a touch of enlightenment (illumination?) with it.
17. Gogol Bordello, Start Wearing Purple: 10/10 - This was the absolutely most perfect song the movie could have ended with. It switches the film seamlessly back into that feel of silly hilarity, single-handedly managing to leave the audience uplifted - a sore necessity for such a partly bleak film!
Overall, one of my favorite soundtracks out there. Whether you've seen the (remarkable) movie or not, get this! It is gorgeous, beautiful, fantastic, powerful, uplifting, and itching to tell you something you've known all your life but just can't quite grasp. In short, a brilliant piece of work.

My boyfriend had his One Man CD in the player last night and it has some nice tracks also that got the Forces of Nature juices flowing. There are some songs on the Forces of Nature Cd that I really do like: Maybe I Deserve, She's A Freak, Slowly, Kill 4, UBounce and Grind...let's just say I like the ENTIRE CD! can't wait to get my vintage copy.
This Tank is Empty!.......2004-10-27
This instrumental arrangements on this CD are bad, the lyrics are simplistic and repetitive, the vocals aren't that great and the album as a whole is barely worth the two stars I gave it. This album sounds like a bad demo. "What What What" and "Throw Your Hands Up" are sorry excuses for party songs. He tries, but miserably fails, to make songs with a good meaning with "Lady on My Block" and "Let it Go". This is not to say he doesn't offer any decent songs on his debut album. "Maybe I Deserve", "Slowly" and "My Freak" are all good songs. After listening to them, you would think he would be able to deliver a good CD, but no. Maybe if Tank gets a decent fill up on Premium or Super, he can bring it better than he did with this disgraceful work he calls a debut. Keep Trying Son.

Compared to the brash pop of Damon Albarn's Gorillaz side project and 1999's overtly emotional 13, Think Tank is a soulful and subtle affairits tone possibly traceable to the departure of founding member Graham Coxon midway through its recording. There are classic Blur rock moments here, notably "Crazy Beat," which is cut from the same cloth as the classic "Song 2," and the painfully short but brilliant "We've Got a File On You," which sounds like agitprop punks Crass mixed up with a Moroccan snake charmer. But while Albarn still has an ear for a melody, without Coxon's guitars to subvert them, most of these songs sound like the work of a new band. "Caravan"'s sleepy rhythm plods at a camel's pace, while "Gene by Gene" employs cross rhythms to evoke desert images. Blur is now more about textures rather than standard rock rhythms. Some will find their evolution off-putting, but for fans who appreciate a band that refuses to sit still, Think Tank is a rewarding listen. --Caroline ButlerAlbum Description

Think Tank.......2007-06-17
Great Blur Album.......2007-06-09
I enjoy the album from start to finish.
The importance of Graham revealed in his absence.......2006-08-15
I started to like Blur less the more sophisticated and artistic they got. I didn't like Blur (self-titled album) much, with the direction of the songwriting..... and I really disliked 13......... but just the same, I oddly respect these albums, as they live and breathe, even if they are over-ambitious and/or less accessible. If Damon Albarn wants to "grow up" as a songwriter, he has that right........ even at the expense of "alienating" fans like myself. Whatever it was he was going for, he seemed to hit it right between the eyes.
And then came Think Tank. Instrumentally and stylistically, this was a natural progression from the increasingly more-serious last two albums. More computers are used. More instruments are experimented with. The songs are less direct, more searching. All the pieces are in place for a solid, if not as listenable, neo-Blur album. Which would be admirable, even if non-adaptable people like me do not like it as much.
That's Fine............. the only problem is: it's not solid, and not listenable.
And thus I came upon the revelation of what made Blur "Blur"............. Of course. It was the one palpable thing missing from Think Tank that everything else before it had had. The only thing that could explain going from good experimentation to aimless experimentation. The guitar. The guitar was gone. The abstract, vernacular lead guitar........ hard to describe but impossible to mistake. Ladies in gentlemen, what made Blur "Blur" was Graham Coxon, I reckon...
Without Coxon, Think Tank loses focus and musicality both. Albarn and the rhythm section are left making music that sounds like it were generated by "Garage Band" or a similar computer program. For most of the songs, there is no distinguishing one part from another. It literally sounds as though Albarn and the band could have played the hook once and just looped it the rest of the song. The samples are promising but the songs are basically Gorillaz clones: beat-driven, without melody or variation. Nothing to even make them worth listening to, unless the lyrics grab you............. and the lyrics are not bad, which makes the ineptitude of the music even more unfortunate.
Think Tank could have been a very good album. Some of the songs are catchy and border on good. "Out of Time" is very pretty. "Good Song" is a drone's lazy summer hymn. "Sweet Song" is a basic but convincing little ballad. "On My Way to the Club" is a possessed reflection on rock and roll trappings. Albarn shows that he has grown up into quite the sociopolitical visionary, actually. He lyrics have an abstract depth that make them worth studying. But the songs are still skeletons, barely even real songs -- even these borderline-good ones. And sadly, this drags the poetic prowess down with it.
Not much need be said about the songs I did not mention. Most drag on like jam sessions to nowhere, as Damon tries to be understated and thus nothing gets stated, since if not words, the music certainly isn't going to say it. When they finish one almost feels cheated for having listened to them expecting something to happen. There is one exception. "Battery in Your Leg." This is the one very good song on the album........ it is no coincidence that it also is the only song that features Graham Coxon. It is almost too ironic that Albarn apparently finished with this song as a message to Coxon that the two could reconcile. On a musical level, this song says even more: they need to reconcile.
Blur's career may depend on it. In essence, this song takes the same kind of songwriting from the rest of the album and gives it melody and direction. What actually makes the song, in fact, is Coxon's eerie descending chord progression after Albarn's sincere "You can be with me"... plummeting right into Alex James' base. The end result is pretty breathtaking... even for someone who likes recent Blur less than old Brit-pop Blur. When Albarn's imagination and Coxon's flare come together, good things still happen..........
But while Coxon's vibrant guitar-playing can stand alone, as his solo works prove, Albarn needs Coxon badly. Likely more than Coxon needs him. Albarn is a freewheeler without the musical aptitude to make his idea's work......... and Coxon is his structure. In accommodating Coxon, Albarn actually accommodates himself...... and what he is capable of. That didn't happen on Think Tank.

For his DreamWorks debut, spoken-word artiste Henry Rollins turns the funny-dude charm way up on 13 jocular monologues. Recorded live at 1997 and 1998 gigs in Chicago and Australia, Think Tank presents a far lighter side than Rollins previously has recorded. He shows another side here, one different from the counterculture icon--the guy with so much pain, he had to tattoo it all over his body and scream it out through rad punk tunes as the human throat for Black Flag and the Rollins Band--and, surprisingly, the lighter Rollins isn't Rollins Lite. The 30-something performer has found his ultimate calling as a caring but angry über-punk who's on your side in the fight against evil. Channeling his rage into prosaic humor, Rollins details the really big problems of life (homophobia, lyrics to Journey songs, racism, vegetarians) and small everyday bummers (the cast of Friends, idiots everywhere, fax machines) alongside detailed postcards from the rock-star life. --Mike McGonigalCustomer Reviews:

Mr. Efficiency.......2004-11-06
This album was my first real introduction to Rollins as a spoken word artist. I was looking up comedy albums and came across Think Tank; I recall thinking at the time, "What? ROLLINS does comedy?" So I took a shot and got it . . . and now I have a new hero. Henry takes you through the adventures of touring (he once accidentally knocked himself out while performing!), his contempt for television, his take on gay people (he gets a little intense in this part - he's totally supportive of them and he's got some great observations, but many people get uncomfortable listening to him talk about it), and - my personal favorite - his bit about El Nino made me laugh until my sides hurt.
He also gets a bit poignant when he talks about the other side of the business . . . a true story about one of his fans - a young man named Marius - who had a terminal illness. It sounds like it'd be depressing but you'll end up smiling and admiring the strength Marius showed in the face of death.
In a nutshell, Henry Rollins uses Think Tank to take you on the rollercoaster of rage, frustration, sorrow, and awe that is life - and he'll make you laugh the whole time. If you like to learn something while you laugh, this is for you.

great material but not much new.......2005-08-15
Moreover, the pop vocal songs from the movie OST/Ask DNA ("No Reply" and "Gotta Knock a Little Harder" and "Cosmic Dare," great songs all) don't quite mesh with the more jazzy selections from the show. It's a rather weird selection. So while the content of this album is terrific, Bebop fans with many of the aforementioned releases already in their clutches don't really need it.
A most excellent addition to the Bebop mythology.......2005-05-05
The CD is wonderful (like a Bebop fan would expect any less from Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts by now with their existing body of work) and provides a few changes of pace that might surprise and the softest vocals I've ever heard from Steve Conte. However, a real treasure is the booklet with the CD which chronicles the career of The Seatbelts with mock up album covers and one song noting that it was from a short film about a dog named Ein who meets up with a European lady...hmm...now that's something I'd like to see.
Point is, even though all of the tracks except for three are tracks you've heard before - it is an excellent compilation and some of the new ones might surprise you. I'm not a big gamer, but I know I have to try this game at least once when it comes out.
