Pittsburgh Tribune Review, March 3 2005
Her album seeks to cross a threshold that current pop music only toys with.

get it, now!.......2006-01-14
"Ambient" in the fullest sense of the word, this album is sensual, dark, romantic and sneaks right under your skin. It's beautifully crafted, and straight-up delicious as a bite of an apple from a forbidden tree. In nostalgaic moments, this album reminds me of (much better produced) early Curve or Slowdive. Vale's voice is expressive and teasing, reminiscent of Jennifer Charles (if you're reading this you probably know her work fromm Elysian Fields). I like to listen to it late at night - but I think it would be perfect for seduction, dancing around, background to writing an ex a scathing email, relaxation, or other things not appropriate to mention here. It's a promising debut, fresh and authentic and a definite buy if like me you are nosing around for musical nourishment in a culture of predigested pop. Just be warned you'll be waiting for the next one with great hopes! I can't wait to see how the artists behind this album will develop. Definitely one to get, don't let all the sex press fool you. These guys know what they are doing!

Buoyed in my expectations for this cd by the earlier reviews I'd read at this site, I bought it with little hesitation. In doing so, I threw out my money. This collection of works is well-intentioned, but dismally executed. It's immediately destined for the 99-cent bin. Why? Only for these reasons: First, the processed sex sounds, while initially of some interest, undergo little real variation on the album, and are so disguised as to beg the question of why to use them. Second, the melodies are nonexistent or banal, and the programming is boring. There's no real singing to speak of- Vale, the lead singer, tends to simply speak the lyrics in the mode of a fashionista speaking on a cell phone as she walks down Park Avenue. Finally, the lyrics themselves are sophomoric. Without the gimmick of a recorded work made from processed sex sounds (which in theory, and occasionally on the album, is a good idea), this cd would not sell more than a handful of copies. My advice- until a better execution of this concept is available, do it yourself, with a partner, watch a porn video, or record your own. It shouldn't be hard (except where it should be).

Experimental.
Sex.
Pop.
All the right elements for this album to be just what you were thinking of. Get "The Sex Album" at least every twenty minutes or so!
Porn? No........2005-06-07
The Sex Album is listenable yet challenging, serious but frolicking, and of course, always horny. It manages to visit several different moods without falling too far into self indulgence and it never beats you over the head. Fans of electronica will find a refreshing new perspective on a genre that has seemed somewhat anemic of late, though you can be a fan of any type of music and enjoy The Sex Album immensely.
Jam on it........2005-06-05
You can dance to it. you can drive to it. you can put it low in the room and let people just feel it. It ain't all trippin techno junk. It's tight and sexy. REally sexy. But it's party too. IT doesn't sound like sex - there ain't no grunting or panting or nothing - but there is something about it that sounds like sex. I don't get it. But I like it. Like get out the black label, lock the doors and put on the sex album.
