3 out of 5 stars Incomplete Soundtrack.......2007-07-01

I bought this soundtrack mainly for the song "The World Spins Madly On" by The Weepies. Don't get me wrong the other songs are classic, but I was still disappointed. Watching the movie I loved the vocal harmony between Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Piper Perabo, and Lauren Graham. I thought for sure they would have put the two songs, "I Met Him On Sunday" and "Its Alright", that the girls sang on this soundtrack. I think this soundtrack is incomplete without it.

5 out of 5 stars Better than the Movie!.......2007-05-30

This was a great soundtrack! I highly recommend it, but the movie lacks beyond the music!

4 out of 5 stars Is This CD Complete?.......2007-05-28

I was searching for the soundtrack to "Because I Said So," and was disappointed that Van Morrison's "Days Like This" was missing from the track list. It was a super opening song.

4 out of 5 stars Good Mother's Day Present.......2007-05-27

I own very few soundtracks and I seem to remember from much earlier that they don't always include all the songs you heard and loved in the movie. That said, this soundtrack still has some good songs. And one great one that I don't even remember from the movie!

Let's hear it for girl-positive soundtracks! This one treads ground familiar to fans of Freaky Friday, though it skews younger, going easier on the rock. Most of the tracks are new, which is refreshing, and the best of the bunch hop and bounce with absolutely infectious verve. In fact, the first five are pretty unimpeachable slices of energetic pop, with Liz Phair reminding everybody that she can craft some of the best choruses in town, Joanna delivering classic "whoo-hoo"s on "Pretty Much Amazing," and the Donnas and Katie Melua bringing it all home with covers of Kim Wilde's "Kids in America" and Robert Palmer's "Looking for Clues," respectively. Newcomers Price and Persephone's Bees play groovy 1960s songs, while J-Kwon and Cupid deliver light, party-happy hip-hop tracks. The sensitive, female-voiced side of things is represented by Corinne Bailey Rae's familiar "Like a Star" and Norwegian band Flunk's Björkish, acoustic-flavored cover of New Order's "Blue Monday," which is so mellow that it takes off the song's pained edge--although it wouldn't be entirely surprising if it turned into a surprise hit, as with Frente's cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

For better or worse, this soundtrack reflects not only the movie (with plenty of excerpts from the film's dialogue) but the tastes of director Kevin Smith--a connection laid out in his detailed liner notes, where Smith readily admits that he's "got a real disconnect when it comes to what's musically hip or in vogue. " The album is like a peep into the head of an aging New Jersey teenager, from King Diamond's "Welcome Home," an over-the-top metal song that must have inspired hours of air guitar, to Talking Heads' "(Nothing But) Flowers," to Soul Asylum's "Misery," to Samantha Fox's über-'80s "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)." Smith's regular composer, Jim Venable, contributes two serviceable instrumentals: the glammy stomper "Neckin' on the Swing" and the funky "Goin' Away Party." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

      Album Description

The wait is finally over, as Kevin Smith unleashes CLERKS II, the sequel to the film that started everything for the writer/director. The film, in theatres July 21st from The Weinstein Co., picks up 10 years after the original and reunites us with Dante and Randal and their semi-new life (or lack thereof). The film also features cult heroes Jay and Silent Bob and is sure to be a hit with fans of both the original film and the world of Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Dogma, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back).

The music on this soundtrack reflects the skewed vision of its creator and features a wide-ranging sound that goes from Talking Heads to Jackson Five, from Alanis to King Diamond - and all of it is CLASSIC!

CLERKS soundtrack has scanned over 150,000 copies! Movie opens wide everywhere July 21st! Snootchy-bootchies!!

Kevin is a true star in both the film and comics world and his legions of fans are sure to enjoy this shining example of his musical vision!

Hold on, `cause the rollercoaster ride's starting! It's CLERKS 2!

      5 out of 5 stars Awesome Soundtrack.......2007-03-19

I bought this album for 1 song, but then realized that the entrie album is good and the songs are classic.

      5 out of 5 stars It's like a movie - without pictures!!.......2006-09-19

OK, OK you Lords of the Ring fans - quit yer whining over there being no Smashing Pumpkins track on the soundtrack. First of all, let me go on the record by saying that using '1979' was the gayest part of the movie. I was alive then and the year as well as the song BLEW BIG TIME (except for Alien and Battlestar Galactica).

That being said, this is the kind of soundtrack that I like having in my collection - the selection of tunes is almost schizophrenic. I think I'll let it live next door to my "A Dirty Shame" soundtrack.

      Smashing Pumpkins can eat it.

4 out of 5 stars Would have been perfect without the night diamon songs!..........2006-09-03

My god I can't believe can listen to such songs,it has no end,the singer yell and the melody is inequal. And they put two songs of those m****rf*****s! and forgot the one by Smashing Pumkins (huge mistake by the way). However,it's a fun soundtrack and i hope the film will be better than the first one,not so good...

5 out of 5 stars Great but yeah it is missing 1979..so what.......2006-09-03

For those of you complaining, chances are you might already have that song laying around somewhere, they more than likely couldn't get the rights to the song for both the movie and the soundtrack. So shut up and enjoy what you have been given which is 97% of the soundtrack from the film, plus hilarious samples of dialogue from the movie. My complaint is that some of the dialogue (particularly in Semantics) is cut right before some of the funnier parts. Small complaint though. And why does the Q. Lazzarus song sound different than the one i have laying around somewhere? Oh well. Basically if you loved the movie, you'll love the soundtrack hands down. Track a copy down and enjoy folks.

3 out of 5 stars Seems to be lacking something........2006-08-25

First off, Clerks 2 was a great sequel. I thought for sure Kevin Smith was going to fumble the ball with this project, but the movie prevailed to be one of the most entertaining movies of the summer.

That being said, I was disappointed that Smashing Pumpkin's "1979" failed to make the final cut of the soundtrack. This song played during an important scene in the movie and I was extremely surprised that this track wasn't released on the soundtrack. There are still some good tracks on the soundtrack, including Talking Heads "Flowers" and Soul Asylum's "Misery" (Awesome!). King Diamond also has two tracks on the soundtrack that can be fun to listen to. Putting sound bites from the movie in between songs was a very nice touch.

Overall, the Clerks 2 soundtrack was lacking, specifically that one magic song. I would recommend this album to any diehard Kevin Smith fan, but only at the cheapest possible price, so shop around. When you get the soundtrack, download Smashing Pumpkin's "1979" and burn it on the cd, only then, will you have the complete soundtrack.

Rock bastardizations of classical music are as old as Kim Fowley's--and ELP's--Tchaikovsky tweaking "Nutrocker." But classical interpretations of rock music have generally been something of a high-wire act. While most pop fare has strong melodic foundations for the soloist to build from, Christopher O'Riley has challenged himself here with the catalog of Radiohead, one of modern rock's most acclaimed--and texturally complex--bands. O'Riley's insightful gifts for interpretation (which have previously enlightened everything from Stravinsky to P.D.Q. Bach) produce a hypnotic, emotionally compelling listening experience here; O'Riley is a huge Radiohead fan, and that love courses through everything from the dreamy, bittersweet title track through the brooding loveliness of "Let Down." Radiohead's stock in trade is dense, multi-layered music that leans heavily on electronic processing for its moody sonic atmospherics; O'Riley's evokes those complex textures with but a judicious use of the sustain peddles, a deft use of dissonance (as on "Knives Out"), and a rhythmically anxious left hand. Call them etudes for the post-modern age if you will, but O'Riley's performances here largely achieve what all great interpretations strive for: New insight and enlightenment. --Jerry McCulley

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Looking Forward, Looking Back.......2007-03-02

Ove the last decade or so, Radiohead has created some of the most complex and futuristic rock music out there, and I wondered if a solo pianist could really capture their essence on a single instrument. However, O'Riley does a marvelous job, and brilliantly conveys the melancholy, mysterious, and introspective qualities of Radiohead's music. His renditions of "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Let Down" are particularly powerful. What I really loved about this cd is while I could follow all of the songs he played, at times I felt like I was listening to an breathtaking piano sonata by Mozart or Beethoven, and even a Nocturne by Chopin. Overall, this is a faithful interpretation by an excellent musician who honors one of the greatest bands in recent times, while also paying hommage to his musical heritage. This cd is a must for even the casual Radiohead fan or anyone who enjoys the piano.

      4 out of 5 stars Music Lovers.......2007-02-17

i love almost all kinds of music. piano and radiohead really works for me, i liked the whole thing. if you can get into some piano, you can get into this cd. if you dig radiohead, get into it purely because someone took the time to put some awesome songs into yet another form for more audiences to get into. its beautiful. thats all there is to say.

5 out of 5 stars a transcription worthy of Franz Liszt.......2006-12-08

This is a beautiful recording. Try playing it for music loving frends who would never listen to a band like Radiohead. They won't believe it when you tell them the source of this richly textured heartbreakingly melodic tour de force. I'm in my late 50's and love Mahler, Sibelius, and Beethoven. I also love Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, John Fahey and Wilco. Good music can come along in any time and I'm glad that Christopher O'Riley loves Radiohead and transcribed it for solo piano; he's missed nothing in the process. If your not choked-up by the end of this CD, music must not be your thing.

      3 out of 5 stars Sleepytime music.......2006-03-27

Being the total Radiohead fanatic that I am, I decided to pick this up when it came out... perhaps a fresh take on their music would breath some life back into the songs I've been listening into the ground, I thought. So I took it up into the mountains with me and listened to it for a bit. My reaction to it now is similar to then: it's a dreamy if somewhat insubstantial collection of vaguely familiar tunes.

All of the playing on this disc is superb on the technical level... obviously O'riley is a top notch classical performer. The arrangements are a mixed bag, though. There are some amazing renditions on here - see the impressionistic 'Everything In Its Right Place' and the melancholy coffee house arrangement of 'Knives Out'. Some others are also quite listenable, including 'Subterranean Homesick Alien', 'Exit Music', 'Bulletproof', and 'Motion Picture Soundtrack'. However, the upbeat pop tunes have difficult translating to solo piano. the Pablo Honey tunes suffer the worst here, and feel slightly unnatural; perhaps like a classical pianist paying tribute to a favorite band, rather than the more personal adaptations that make the 'Knives Out' arrangement so effective.

Overall, a nice cd to put on in the background when you're reading or settling in to bed, but Radiohead fanatics beware - don't expect anything that lives up to the band's immense standards.

      5 out of 5 stars Nice sound.......2006-02-17

I didn't even know Radiohead songs...but now I've listened to the originals and can hear how O'Riley captures the songs on the piano. This is a great album.

These vibrant world melodies accompany the event that shocked the world and changed Mariane Pearl's life forever- the tragic death of her husband, South Asian Bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, Daniel Pearl, who was researching a story on shoe bomber Richard Reid and never returned.

Starring Academy Award Winner Angelina Jolie (Girl, Interrupted) and Dan Futterman, Oscar-nominated for his screenplay, Capote, A MIGHTY HEART, is directed by Michael Winterbottom (The Road to Guantanamo, Tristram Shandy) and produced by Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner for Plan B Entertainment (Year of the Dog, The Departed). A MIGHTY HEART: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE is the most gripping soundtrack of the year with tracks by world music's top artists.

        5 out of 5 stars Great Rockabilly!.......2003-03-16

Lee Rocker sounds great. Modern rockabilly but reminiscent of Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran with a punch. Great guitar playing by Brophy Dale really makes this cd outstanding, he is excellent. I highly recommend.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible way to end a carrer........2005-09-24

I totaly agree with the first review....that album realy sucks.
I try to hear it many times, but its simply impossible.
The Arrangements is so poor and out of date.
Try any other Graces' album except that.

1 out of 5 stars This album is horrible.......2005-09-17

I bought this album because I had never heard a Grace Jones album and so I decided to buy this one. Big mistake! All of the songs are so poor and Grace cannot sing for anything. She doesn't even sing hardly- it's mostly her just yelling and talking! The only half-way decent song is a bonus track called Dream. Other than that, this album sucks.

        4 out of 5 stars Killer Kiss.......2005-03-01

She left Island, joined the cast of Bond in '85, scored a Top 10 hit in 1986 with "I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect for You)." Bulletproof Heart is a mixed bag, it's overproduced and sometimes, it even comes off a little cheesy. The lead single is without doubt the number one dance hit: Love on Top of Love, which is a pretty funky tune. She carries the song (and herself) extremely well throughout that song. Much of the album seems hampered by the overproduction, and some of the material even seems unfinished. The plaintive "Paper Plan" is a fine example of this, with lines such as: "Marriage of the heart" makes it look rather campy and cheesy. The album does however have some shining moments such as the rhythmic "Seduction Surrender" which is an adapted version of the song she performed in Vamp, two years prior to this album. Another highlight is the extremely moody "On My Way" with lush soundscapes and stirring strings. As a whole, Bulletproof Heart is an accomplished piece of finely (but overproduced) pop art, even if it occasionally sinks into a little too much campiness, as it does on "Crack Attack" with the head-phrase being "Crack is wack." The 2004 re-release includes four bonus tracks: a Garage House mix of "Love on Top of Love," a Brazilian mix of the already stunning

        4 out of 5 stars Amado Mio.......2004-12-11

Grace Jones co-produced most of the tracks on this 1989 album. Bulletproof Heart contains an amalgam of her styles and although not a classic, it is a strong work that will please her fans. With its funky rhythm, Driving Satisfaction has just a hint of her classic Pull Up To The Bumper and lovely swirling percussive patterns.

Kicked Around is closer to vocal pop, whilst Love On Top Of Love has a bouncy beat and innovative vocal arrangement. Crack Attack is a polyrhythmic dance number and the title track has a jerky rhythm and some marvellous sax. There are also beautiful tuneful ballads like Paper Plan, Someone To Love and Amado Mio. Her voice really soars on Someone To Love, a rousing ballad with a wonderful melody and some romantic French lyrics.

Amado Mio is the album's torch song and a fine example of her mastery of the genre. It has lovely accordion, a Spanish flavor and some French infusions. These aforementioned two songs should have been big bits and are amongst the highlights of her career.

This CD re-issue of Bulletproof Heart includes four additional tracks, of which the garage-house remix of Love On Top Of Love and the Brazilian mix of Amado Mio are the best. Bulletproof Heart may not be Jones most innovative work but it remains a good album that has stood the test of time very well.

along with the jackass the movie soundtrack and the haggard soundtrack this is one of the best soundtracks i've ever heard, ever. every song on this soundtrack is cool plus there are clips from the movie on it. go and buy this today, after all, you wouldn't want to feel like a jackass for not buying it now would you?

5 out of 5 stars One of the funniest sountracks.......2006-11-20

I love this soundtrack! If you have seen the movie, then hearing the songs, you will remember what part of the movie it is from. There are little audio clips from the movie too. Only thing I'm dissapointed about is the theme song and the Wolfmother song from the trailers, aren't on here.
