Loaded with lyrics about nightmares, pain, isolation and broken relationships, One X, the sophomore effort from Three Days Grace should be a downright bummer of a ride. Instead, the listener manages to find uplift lurking beneath the weighty lyrics as the quartet churns out a series of anthemic, crunch-chord songs. The band moves from arena-ready light metal with "It's All Over" to the sex groove of "Animal I Have Become," before plunging the listener into full-on chaotic heaviness during the anti-alienation anthem "Riot" and easing us into the atmospheric future hit "Get Out Alive." Throughout, TDG remains true to its core alt-metal sound. Sorry Lyrics.......2007-07-06

The band is excellent. They are good musicians and play tightly together. The problem is the lyrics are awful. This is nothing less than nightmares set to music. If you have these same thoughts running through your head, seek some professional psychiatric help. Absolutely not recommended for young listeners. Parents you are warned. No wonder the record industry is on the ropes.

My Favorite CD
Three Days Grace is not only for one group of people. A lot of people I know and people I don't know love Three Days Grace.Rockers, punk, and the girls scream for them. I went to their concert when they came to buffalo and they were sweet. I never heard a band that sounded just as good live as they are on the CD.Here are some of there songs: Are You Ready, Pain, Never Too late, Just Like You, I Hate Everything About You, and tons more.
When I first listened to the CD I never stopped.In my opinion this CD is amazing and I can't wait until they make another one.I play the drums and when I heard the drummer I was BLOWN away.
I recommend this CD to everyone who is willing to listen to something new.You will be impressed,Even my mom loves them.

I like the CD One X by Three Days Grace. This CD has 12 songs on it. These songs are about 3 minutes long. Three Days Grace is a Canadian band. I like the songs Riot, One X and all the other song on the CD. There is some swearing in three of the songs. My opinion of this CD would be a 10 out of 10. I love this CD so much that I downloaded it on my I pod. I would recommend this CD to kids that are older than 12 because of the swearing. I would also recommend this CD to people that like rock music

I recently went to a Nickelback concert and Three Days Grace was opening for them. I fell in love with the band hearing their music at the concert and felt that Nickelback should opening for Three Days Grace, not the other way around!

Still as good as when they were young.......2007-07-07

I got to see them June 15th 2007 at the Saratoga Winery. They were a blast!!! You thought it was yesterday. They still got it, they still sound as good. They took "Momma Told Me Not To Come" and turned it into a Rap for fun, and the way they did it, you would have thought it had alwasy been sung that way.

I found myself remembering the words to most of the songs, that I thought I had forgotten. You don't forget, the words are just tucked away. They had a couple of new band members but the rest were the good ol' guys we remember. If you don't get to see them, this CD will be the next best thing. You will really enjoy listening to the songs on this CD.

After buying this, go check out "ToTo". They were the opening Band for Three Dog Night!!!

It's hard to hear The Walk from end to end without wishing the brothers Hanson could go back in time and undo the career-stunting megahit that was "MmmBop." If it wasn't for that 1997 song, catchy and guilty-pleasurable as it was, the boys would be well on their way to winning over the kind of committed audience a disc as focused and fine-tuned as this one deserves. There's nothing particularly high-minded here (excepting the single "Great Divide," a downloadable track whose sales will benefit an African orphanage), but each song radiates a level of pop-rock accomplishment that surpasses most anything you'll hear on top 40 radio. Hanson, in fact, has more in common with acts like Fountain of Wayne and Amos Lee these days than anybody you'll see strutting across a TV screen in skin-tight pants. Highlights on a disc without a single dud include "Georgia," contemplatively sung by Taylor, and "Running Man," an addictive Squeeze-meets-Beatles rock ditty co-written by Zac. In its 15-year history, Hanson has won the right to talk the talk about the hardships and satisfactions of maturing musically; The Walk backs that talk up beautifully. --Tammy La Gorce

GOT A HOLD ON ME is the strongest song on the album. I like everything about that song. Any person in the world will like this song. Not just Hanson fans.

you all know deep down mmmbop is secret guilty pleasure but as mentioned they were mere children when they made that album. The Hanson boys have grown up and so has their sound.The walk was soley produce by the boys under their own label. So know guys in suits telling them what sells and what doesn't. They're musicians and they know how to write their own music
and play it the way they like to hear with their musicians ear and I think you'll agree if you give it a listen that these boys know whats good.My husband personal favorite is "I've been down". I love that one
and Tearing it down. Who am I kidding I love the whole album and I'm
sure if you buy it you'll love it too. I'd like to mention I'm in my mid-30's and love rock n roll. I'm not a teeny bopper into boy bands and these guys are not "a boy band" they are rockers.

The Walk was the first independently released album under 3CG that was entirely influence by Isaac, Taylor and Zac, solely. If people could see through MMMBop and understand the normal process of 'growing up' then they'd truly have a grade A album in The Walk.

After plundering the Yardbirds' legacy and Willie Dixon (among others) for their blues-riff-heavy first two albums, Jimmy Page and company surprised many listeners with the strong acoustic/folk sensibility displayed on III. Page aficionados shouldn't have been caught off guard; the guitarist had toyed with similar sensibilities and modalities during his brief tenure with the Yardbirds (most notably "White Summer" from the Little Games album). Ever the creative thieves, Zep kick off the album by nicking the riff from "Bali Ha'i" no less, with Robert Plant wailing it to punctuate the thundering FM warhorse "Immigrant Song." Even other electric rockers like "Celebration Day" and "Out on the Tiles" have an inventive, offbeat musicality to them that suggest the band was already wary of stereotyping. But it's the decidedly mellower acoustic groove of the album's latter half that's the news here, from the graceful beauty of "That's the Way" and "Tangerine" to the raw, folksy charm of "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp," "Hats Off (to Roy Harper)," and the traditional "Gallows Pole." --Jerry McCulley

****1/2 Stars. THE underrated Led Zep album.......2007-05-20

Led Zeppelin III (1970) Led Zeppelin's third studio album.

After two albums in 1969 that had helped developed the blues-rock/hard-rock sound, as well as create several FM radio staples, Led Zeppelin went in a different direction with their third record. "III" is one of their more overlooked works, due mostly to its folk sound. Besides the storming opener "Immigrant Song", the other tracks are relatively unknown to casual listeners. My thoughts? Their loss; this album has been unmarkedly though subtly influential on modern music.

"III" seems to have been made by the band in the spirit as though they were afraid of being labeled specifically as a blues band. Page is mostly on the acoustic guitar here, with Plant showing that he could actually sing - something not really heard on the first two albums. But the highlights here, putting aside the obvious "Immigrant Song", are the folk-ish "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp", the meandering "Friends", and the shifting "Out on the Tiles".

As I've said in reviews of other Led Zeppelin CDs, the sound quality is amazing. While most other CDs seem to lack the warmth distortion of the original vinyls, these remasters were overseen by Mr. Page himself. Don't worry about being disappointed in that department, all you have to worry about is how you're going to enjoy it.

Cooled off........2007-05-08

After a pair of great blues/rock albums, Led Zeppelin decided for their third record that it was time for a change of pace. Largely leaving behind the blues roots they embraced so heavily, this one recesses the blues tinge and replaces it with a more overt folk sound-- this was certainly present on earlier albums, but here it's the main voice.

Of course, this isn't immediately obvious, the record does open with a fierce, screamed, churning "Immigrant Song", a two and a half minute slice of heavy metal, but it settles down pretty quickly, and indeed the record's best material is quite tame and dominated by some fine ballads (almost slulggish "Since I've Been Loving You", acoustic "Tangerine", the absolutely fantastic guitar and mandolin number "That's the Way"). The exception to this amongst the real greats on the record is traditional "Gallows Pole"-- soaked in acoustic guitars and mandolins, it picks up a lilt and energy and didn't receive nearly as much attention as it should have until the mid-90s Page/Plant reunion.

Still, unlike their first two records, some pieces on here just don't do it for me-- "Friends" is a bit too disjoint for its own good and "Out on the Tiles" is suspiciously filler-like. It's strengths certainly overtake its weaknesses, but in the Led Zeppelin catalog, "III" is substantially weaker than the records around it.

Led Free.......2007-04-06

Third time around, and they get it right again. From the squeak of Bonham's kickdrum (the requisite blues "Since I've Been Loving You") to Page's only performance on banjo (the gotcha-anyway "Gallows Pole") there ain't a duff track here. It's a quantum leap sideways from the heaviness of LZ II, and the landing is perfect. Criminy, "Celebration Day" is brilliant enough even with (actually, I think, because of) the botched intro - - when Jones's bass and Bonham's drums finally clamber in, the track takes off and carries the album with it; Page's guitar work on this track is awesome. And Led Zeppelin had flirted with acoustic music before, but the full-blown folk rock on III proves their eclecticism once and for all - - "That's The Way" is simply beautiful in its melancholy. It's a wildly diverse album, and as such shows that Led Zeppelin was at this point bursting with ideas. Anyone remember Lucifer's Friend? They copped Plant's Viking wail from the high-octane, octave-riffed "Immigrant Song" for the first song on their own debut. So what, you say? Exactly.

zepplin's most acoustic set of songs........2007-04-03

this, zepplin's most acoustically orriented album, while not one of their overrall masterpieces, still has plenty of great material on it: more than enough to make it a must-have for lovers of rock and roll. the acoustic songs "friends," and "that's the way," are simply great. not to be missed. "celebration day" is the best rocker on the album; another song that you shouldn't miss out on. "since i've been loving you," is a masterpiece, one of led zepplin's best songs: a blues melody that is absolutely gorgeous. all and all, another wonderful album from led zepplin that is definitely a fine addition to any household.

Readied in the early '90s (but not released until the summer of 2007) this multi-tracked document of a strong twenty-song, two-hour set by the Dead from February 1971 in Port Chester, NY brims with subtle pleasures and myriad rave-ups. The sound is immaculate throughout, thanks to the group's adoption of radical technology for the time. The band was at a creative peak at the start of '71; both Workingman's Dead and American Beauty had been released the previous year. There are a few points where the group seems a tad lead-footed, but this is understandable as second drummer Mickey Hart had left the previous day for a several year hiatus after it was discovered that his father had ripped off the group while acting as their manager. Overall, the band 's clearly moving towards a more mean and stripped-down sound. And the rocking numbers like "Bertha"--debuted at this gig, along with a handful of other numbers--do benefit from this. To top it all off, the songs sung by Ron "Pigpen" McKernan here are among the strongest the blues interpretations ever recorded. There are a lot of Dead shows out there, and some have historic value, while others just sound great in terms of the performance and fidelity. This show has the full trifecta; it's not to be missed by even the casual 'head. --Mike McGonigal

About Time They Got It Out.......2007-07-26

A very good recording & show. Now, if they can just do the night before too. In case you don't know, this is the 1st show after Mickey Hart chose to take his couple of year break & the night before is the last show he did. The band plays JUST PLAIN GREAT considering the abrupt change they had to deal with. Really nice first set & great second set.

After many years of delay, "Three From The Vault" was finally released. Nice digipak design, nice booklet, nice front cover with emblematic "steal your face" logo. As always, outstanding sound quality (sometimes I wonder: did The Dead have the best sound engineers of those times???).
Now, regarding what brings us here, the music, this is an obviously transitional Dead. This recording is, most of all, of historical interest, due to the fact that it was the very first concert after the departure of Mickey Hart and that many songs were premiered that night. Of course, these historical facts affect the group sound. First of all, Bill Kreutzmann had no trouble AT ALL with supporting the band alone. In fact, he started playing better than ever. Regarding the new songs, well, they are played generally in a rush, the lyrics are not always remembered (although it also happens with songs which were not new) and the band interaction does not flow freely as always. They generally sound instable, a little bit akward, but that is absolutely normal, of course. Anyone who has ever written a song knows it takes time to find the suitable vibe for each tune.
When playing the "old ones" ("That's It For The Other One", "Smokestack Lightnin'", "China Cut Sunflower"), the Dead do it with the usual absolute authority.
So, even though it does not seem to be a mind-blowing recording (an many other Dead releases), it is still extremely interesting to hear the band in the process of changing, learning and taking new risks. Far from anchoring in audience favorites, chances are taken and the future is set off. But, as we know, the Dead were always looking for something new, and once these songs were properly learnt, they were already writing new ones with new challenges. Just an test to perceive of the ever-evolving nature of the band: compare the version of "Playing In The Band" of this release with the one in "The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack".
Once again, a delightful and interesting record.

Not quite five stars...but..........2007-07-22

Well this isn't a super performance from the Dead, but it has it's moments. It's incredible quality sound, and Bob Weir's playing in high in the mix, which I appreciate in the 71-74 years.Deadheads will enjoy his lead work while Jerry plays rhythm.

Smokestack Lightnin and Easy Wind are great, and this from a guy who usually skips those long Pig raps.

I've always enjoyed 1971 "bar band" dead with its one drummer, and country and blues sound, as well as some of it's best material fresh, and it's young Jerry Garcia voice. If you liked "Ladies and Gentlemen", you're sure to like this one. The performances aren't as legendary, not quite as many awesome tunes, but it sounds better and it's a rockin good time.

I know why this took 15 years to release........2007-07-22

There seems to be a little "mystery" about why this release took so long. Phil Lesh didn't like it and nixed it for release back in early 1993. Copies had already been made up and David Gans was even playing it on his show. Basically, what happened was, at the time, Phil didn't want to use any shows that had gone into already released albums and Dan Healy only wanted to use multi track tape so this show (from a run)which was recorded for Grateful Dead(aka Skull & Roses) but not used, was pulled out. This was the second night. The first night found the debut of 6 songs(Bertha, Greatest Story, Johnny B Goode, Wharf Rat, Loser and Playing In The Band) and was the last show for Mickey Hart(Ned Lagin also played Keyboards at that show). This was the first show with just Billy again since September 1967. This show also found 2 new songs(Bird Song and Deal) being pulled out as well as repeats of some of the new stuff from the night before. When it was brought out in Dupree's Diamond News that songs like Bird Song made it's first appearence here, Phil said "Yeah, but the problem was, it sounds like the first". Later in the year, the band asked Dick to start picking 2 track tapes for release and Healy was fired early the next year. As for the performance itself, I like it. The Truckin' blows away the so so version on Ladies And Gentleman. The Pig Pen songs are strong. Many(including Phil) have said that spring tour of 1971 might have been Pig's strongest period. Dark Hollow is always welcome and a nice That's It For The Other One. Yeah, I like it but then I liked it back in 1993 too!!!

Big on highs and understandable lows .......2007-07-13

Probably deserves 3 and a half stars but that isn't an option.
I won't try and turn anyone off this release because the "good" stuff is hot! I personally prefer full shows and am ready to accept that not everything works on every show but that doesn't justify an automatic 5 stars for every release based on the "good" stuff.
Is it one of the better GD live releases?? Not entirely - read on. The sound may be crisp and clear but some of the performances are a hard listen - PITB shocked me in this embryonic and sloppy version however, it's understandable that new songs have to be road-tested.
Yes, i know that they played a heap of new, still undeveloped songs that would turn into monsters in years to come - It's amazing that some of those very tracks like PITB, GSET and Deal ended up as grand as they did because listening to these versions you'd have thought they'd be dumped for eternity by the end of the month. Thanks to GD for NOT doing that.
There are heaps of positives to be drawn from this release - i don't beleive i've heard a better Smokestack, Hurts Me Too or Easy Wind. Cumberland Blues is always a "fun" track even if lines are forgotten. Did the band have an energy drink (or maybe something different??) before playing Bertha - sounds like it - gets you moving. Continuing on with that energy is China/Rider - a stand-out sounding more confident with age (and will get better after '71). Other One is my favourite GD song (along with UJB & EOTW) and hardly ever disappoints - this version is no exception. Wharf Rat rides on the crest of raw emotion, flows, and ultimately drags you in. Truckin' and Loser also deserve worthy mentions.
A single cd version for the average listener would be 5 stars and i've made a compilation of the highlights just right for the car (apologies for leaving out johnny b. goode which is one of the best i've heard but it didn't fit on the cd-r). This is it:

Like they never left.......2007-07-18

It is hard to believe that Smitten came out so long ago (where did those years go). I was worried that this new effort would not be true and an Adult Contemporary version of the BT I knew of the 90s. Happily I was wrong. Three Easy Pieces is a very strong effort that ranks up there with their best. Gone is the uneveness of Smitten. Every song gets under your skin. They also are doing a good job of using Chris's strong and different vocals. He sings lead on four songs, and unlike most groups where another band member gets a few "token" songs to sing, his are just as great and provide a nice contrast. Buy it, You will likey.

Circa 1993 - Newbury Street, Boston... late afternoon showers followed by sunshine... listening to homemade comps of Buffalo Tom, Dino Jr. ... some of the best memories.

There is comfort in Buffalo Tom. Something there is about the chemistry between these three guys that makes the world feel half way right. Three Easy Pieces calls to mind all the amazing music made during their "popular years" back in the earlier to mid 90's; however, there's no hint of "formula". I don't think they set out to create "Let Me Come Over II". The songs on 3EP have that same melody, that same pop sensability, everything we love about Buffalo Tom. "Where are all those golden years?" - right here in 3EP.

I've been a huge fan of Buffalo Tom since the Let Me Come Over days, and over the years I've eagerly anticipated the arrival of each new release. With such a long gap since the last album, the band had drifted off my radar until recently when I did a random search for them and found that some fresh material was about to hit the street. Having listened to Three Easy Pieces now in its entirety, I have mixed feelings. Overall it is not an outstanding album, but the quality of the good songs and the pristine production more than makes up for the overall weakness of the opus. The opener "Bad Phone Call" immediately strikes you as being something new for the Tom - a lazy, country-tinged rocker that could almost be a love duet if it hadn't been sung by two heterosexual males. "Bottom of the Rain" is more familiar and would have fit right in on Big Red Letter Day, the bands crowning achievement of almost 15 years back. "You'll Never Catch Him" sounds more like Let Me Come Over era material, and is also excellent. However, the band's finest moment is "Lost Downtown," a song that could perhaps be their best ever. Bill Janovich sings as if he is a love-smitten teenager instead of a 40+ something. The gentle, melodic rhythm is complemented perfectly by the bouncing baseline and Janovich's impassioned vocals. It's a subtle piece that demonstrates just how amazing a songwriter Janovich is when he's on top of his game. The rest of the album is, unfortunately, fairly forgettable, and Tom Colburn's contributions are weaker than usual. There is no "Late at Night" "The Bible" or "Twenty Points" here, sadly. All said, this is a "must buy" for Buffalo Tom fans, and others would be recommended to download the above mentioned songs from itunes, lest they be disappointed by the album as a whole. Despite my mixed review, I will be praying to the rock gods that Buffalo Tom deliver at least one more album before they call it quits for good.

Return of the Tom.......2007-07-16

Okay, so it's time to have a tempered review put up here. There will be no gushing, nor will there be no bemoaning hate. It's simply this; it's been a long pause since Smitten and it shows. I rather take issue with the Amazon review that this album is reminicent of past records... it does only in the respect that it "is" a Buffalo Tom record. When I initially put this album on, I'd steeled myself for a let down, as earlier return efforts this year had underwhelmed me. The good news... this is a decent Buffalo Tom record. The bad news... it's not outstanding and I don't hear anything on it that has "breakout" accessibility. Furthermore, a certain spark is somewhat dulled on here... a blunting of spirit, I guess from the passage of time, maybe. Smitten, their last effort, if a little overproduced, still had a sharper pop, spirit to it, even in sad songs. If you have liked Buffalo Tom all through their career, definitely get this. If you have not, start with an earlier Buffalo Tom release, just about any of them. Finally, my favorites and skips change over time, some songs grow on me, and some, I grow out of. My fave on this album, so far, is Pendleton, and I feel, personally, that the album's weakest tracks are ironically the first two. Cheers.~

Strong return for BT.......2007-07-13

This is a band that has had strong effort after strong effort in its long musical career. It is quite mind boggling why this band never "made it" (pros and cons of "making it" not to be debated).

Three Easy Pieces is everything a Buffalo Tom album should be, if you are a fan of thier poppier and mellower albums. Bill Janovitz and Chris Colbourn's vocals and lyrics are as catchy as ever. Lost Downtown and Throw are classic BT work that you'll find yourself singing to yourself or outloud.

Long time fans should enjoy this one as much as I did and newer listeners should give it a whirl....it's worth hearing the complete work rather than a download of just a few tracks.

Dispite what anyone else says, if god ever tried to talk to humanity it was through Wolfgang because his music is absolute perfection.It is the most beautiful music i've ever heard in my life( and this is coming from a 21 year old metal-head ).If one has second thoughts about buying this collection dispell them right now because this is probably the first item i've bought in a long time that i have not regreted.

Buy this as an encyclopedia of Mozart, then add other recordings..........2007-06-22

Brilliant Classics Complete Mozart edition, released for the 250th anniversary year of Mozart's birth (he was born in 1756), has much to recommend it. It contains almost all the works of Mozart, and has many fine performances: the piano sonatas by Klara Wurtz, Piano Concertos by Derek Han, Paul Freeman/Philharmonia, The Magic Flute, conducted by Charles Mackerras (licensed from Telarc), String Quartets by the Franz Schubert Quartet (Licensed from Nimbus) each stand out. The Symphonies, by the Amsterdam Mozart Academy/ Jaap ter Linden, are "So-so": I don't like the small period ensemble, but Symphonies 20, 40 (both versions: one with clarinets and the other without), 23, 24, and 34 are pretty good. Symphonies 1:I, 25 and 41 are sub-par: scrappy playing and weak violins make for a pretty rough experience. I would supplement this with the complete Mozart Symphonies by Karl Bohm/Berlin Philharmonic (DG), among the best recordings of these works, and the best complete set of Mozart's Symphonies, completed in 1968.

The Requiem, conducted by Nicol Matt (2001 recording) has had better performances, and for this I would recommend Bohm/Vienna Philharmonic (DG) and Colin Davis/London Symphony (Philips), which use a larger choir and orchestra, and have more drama where it is needed. The other choral works conducted by Nicol Matt are better, especially "Exsultate Jubilate" motet, the short Masses, and "Ave Verum".

Also worthy of mention are the "Posthorn" and "Haffner" Serenades, by Colin Davis/Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, licensed from Novalis for this release.

This is a great overview, and Brilliant Classics are to be commended for making it available at a low price, to get Mozart's music out to the mass public. It's a great buy, but I would get the Bohm Symphonies, and also Piano Concertos by either Ashkenazy/Philharmonia (Decca), Perahia/English Chamber Orchestra (Sony) or Anda/Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg (DG) for supplements. Also, Karl Bohm's recordings of the operas: The Magic Flute, the Marriage of Figaro, Idomeneo, and La Clemenza di Tito (all DG) are required listening, too. Recommended, but not as the only recording of Mozart's works.

As others have reviewed the product and highlighted that there are a few poor pieces... But who cares when there is 170 discs.. if you had have 10 cds that are poor quality and had a 160 disc set of good cd's and you paid $90 for the set.. would you be happy? I would think so... So don't get frustrated and just buy the set.. Enjoy the music for the price.. I am not going to go into details like others did but just buy the set!

Incredible Bargain.......2007-06-10

This offer is an incredible bargain at just over 50 cents a CD. The price jumps around often - you can sometimes get it for $4 or $5 less. but still at 50 cents. Mine arrived in excellent shape - it's hard for them to do otherwise. The way they are packaged they are either in good shape or some major disaster has happened destroying a whole bunch. Those I have played sound great. It will probably take a life time to play them all. Meanwhile we can just revel in our riches and feel all warm and fuzzy.
I also own the Bach set and am wildly happy with that as well.

A Must Have for all Parents of Little Children !!!.......2006-11-25

I bought this when my first baby was...well, a baby. That was 8 years ago. Now I am on my 4th copy of this cd (Mozart For Mothers to Be) and my 3rd child. Nothing works better. I'm on here to buy my 4th copy becasue I've worn them out over the years and have to keep replaceing them. My 8 and 3 year old still use it, and now the new baby, also. Make it part of your nightly bed time routine and you'll have good little sleepers in no time. I swear by it. It is very soothing, calming and not distracting so it won't drive you bonkers if you can hear it a little from the next room.

A truely great gift for new parents, or if you have a sleepless little one at home. Turn on the cd, turn down the lights and let it sooth them to sleep.

Inspire the baby-within.......2005-12-13

Beyond sheer musical appreciation and enjoyment, Mozart's music in general is ideal for gently stimulating the "creative centers" as well as instilling a sense well-being. While there is much academic disagreement about the extent or reality of the so-called "Mozart Effect," it doesn't take a genius to observe how Mozart's music puts most people (and probably babies-to-be) in a happy mood ready to take on the day's challenges. There is a simplicity - yet elegance and musical brilliance - in his music that is also well-suited for the youngest of children.

The selections on this CD are all excellent and represent a nice range of Mozart's compostions, emphasising those that are ideal for creating a pleasant backdrop for leisure, dining and social occasions ("divertimentos"). The recordings are from the creme of musicians famous for their Mozart. Few works are as elegant and soaring as the Serenade #10 for winds - an astonishingly beautiful tune made famous from the early scenes of the movie, "Amadeus." Mozart supreme gifts of music are even seen in such humble "background music" as these pieces. And such continuity of warm, leisurely tones as these over 70 minutes is ideal for inspiring the baby to-be if that is why you are considering this CD. Better to expose a baby to the gentile, lyrical music of Mozart than to the dissonant, loud and disturbing tones of some classical music written well after Mozart.

As the reviewer below rightfully notes, compilation CD's of various unrelated works like this one is not quite how classical music is best meant to be heard. But in a way it is better for many to start with such collections like this - especially for those who just want the more quiet selections that are unintrusive. In that respect, this collection can be satisfying for most anyone (not just moms or babies). I have a huge classical music collection, but still really enjoy listening to one full CD of similar-temperament music like this one that flows easily and smoothly that doesn't demand my attention but only seeks to delight. And, in the end, that was the simple and primary goal of many of Mozart's compositions - to be purely enjoyed and delighted.

I recently went to a Nickelback concert and Three Days Grace was opening for them. I fell in love with the band hearing their music at the concert and felt that Nickelback should opening for Three Days Grace, not the other way around!

Canada is famous for producing mainly three things: Nickelback, insanely cheap prescriptions, and Three Days Grace. This quartet of Canadian rockers really know how to keep you listening... til about track 4. Then, the rest of the CD is just filler. Here are my favorite tracks, in order:

1) Home: In my opinion, the best Three Days Grace song ever. I really identify with some of the lyrics: "I'll be coming home just to be alone... no matter how hard I try, you're never satisfied... I can hardly wait til you get off my case!!" Relatively easy to learn on guitar, too.

2) Just Like You: Second-best TDG song ever. Also, the only song I can do halfway good on drums.

3) Burn: Average, but still good.

4) (I Hate) Everything About You: Way too overplayed, but still a good song; I really like the video.

Other than tracks 1-4, you really don't need to get this debut CD. It's good, yeah, but it can be better.

3DG's Eponymous Debut........2007-05-16

During the summer of 2003, Canadian group Three Days Grace put out their first full-length effort, garnering them widespread attention and propelling them into mainstream success. 3DG play a brand of post-grunge modern rock, and they've certainly become a favorite modern contemporary of mine in that vein. This album seethes with emotive energy, adhering to themes of bitter losses, to maintaining individuality, and tug-o-war relationships. While the songwriting may not be considerably groundbreaking, it weaves with the melodic choruses to make for some distinct and memorable tracks. While the singles are strong in their own right, noted favorites here are the up-tempo and forceful "Scared," the false re-assurance of "Let You Down," the hollow resilience of "Drown," and the shot of redemption found in "Wake Up." "Take Me Under" is also hauntingly catchy, starting off slowly, with the "Take me all the way" verse that embedded itself into my mind for some time, before bursting into the chorus. And "Overrated" can be deciphered depending on the listener's point of view.

When it comes to modern rock, you really can't go wrong here. Three Days Grace have made a name for themselves since their debut, and I'm sure they'll be conducting a strong following for years to come.

This album is an excellent debut disk for Three Days Grace. Their hits come early in the album and the undiscovered songs is a jewel that people that only download their music will never find. However some of the music could be helped out if it was more complex. If you liked this CD then I would buy Three Day's Grace's sophmore album One-X Which they bring in a second guitar player, and expand on their strengths.

Depending on who's counting, there are anywhere from 100 to n-frigging-thousand subgenres of rock music a band can slide into for easy categorization. And depending on where you drop the laser on Fair to Midland's debut album, Fables From a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times is True, at least half of those subgenres are being reinvented at once. But to call this Dallas quintet merely eclectic is to sell them way short. No, Fair to Midland are masters of fusing those subgenres into something that's cohesive, intensely focused, and in a bold new category all its own.

Recorded with art-rock super-producer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, Peter Gabriel), Fables From a Mayfly finds Fair to Midland stretching out even further into the aggression and atmospherics at their core while taking their inherent gift for melody to new levels. Tracks such as "Kyla Cries Cologne," "April Fools and Eggmen," and the gripping first single, "Dance of the Manatee", showcase Fair to Midland's flair for combining progged-out virtuosity with lead-heavy riffs, dynamic tidal waves, and frontman Darroh Sudderth's operatic vocals. Even when the volume lets up--as in the softer, spacier folds of "The Wife, The Kids, and the White Picket Fence" and "Say When"--Fair to Midland create sonic tidal waves big enough to level arenas.

With Fables From a Mayfly, Fair to Midland have truly delivered, capturing the kinetic energy of their live show while harnessing the array of influences that make them impossible to pigeonhole. "For the most part, our musical tastes are completely different," says Sudderth, who rounds out the band with guitarist Cliff Campbell, drummer Brett Stowers, bassist Jon Dicken, and keyboardist/electronics manipulator Matt Langley. "We've just gotten better at listening to each other over the years. All of our songs are just us trying to find a happy medium between what everyone in the band listens to--and I think that actually being able to do that is what makes us so different from a lot of other `rock' bands today."

What's holding them back?.......2007-07-27

I stumbled unto Fair to Midland's Fables from a Mayfly, and I have to say that I was really stunned when I engaged in my first listen. Sonically tight, and with an amazing vocalist, FTM proves to be a standout band among the hoards of bands that emerge almost daily. IN a strange twist of contradiction though, their music doesn't really do ANYTHING different than any other band out at the moment, or those that came out last year or the year before that.

Signed to Serjical Strike (Serj from System of a Down's record label), FTM show the world, through Fables from a Mayfly, that they can stand their ground and produce some musically tight material the soars with an epic feel.

However, throughout the whole album, I got the feeling that the band is holding back. Sure, each song is wonderfully crafted both sonically and musically. But it seems as if the band could do....better. None of the 12 tracks stray from the usual and predicatble cookie cutter rock structure. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it left me wondering what they could REALLY do if they were not confined by the lines and managed to color far outside the pre-designed picture.

It seems as if they created each song to cater to a radio-friendly audience. That reeks of a band that desires to be in the lime light a la'MTV.
Though make no mistake, each song is amazing and well done.
There are crunching, head nodding riffs, wonderful clean strummed passages, beautiful piano parts and some of the best singing of 2007. Seriously, the vocalist has PIPES! He can hit high notes like they were nothing. His lyrics are not too shabby either - posed a seemingly metaphorical and meant to convey a message.

But, Fables from a Mayfly sounds suspiciously like the years of released music that preceeded it. If that doesn't bother you, then you are in for a wonderful, soaring treat.
One thing that bothered me,the drumming left much to be desired, as it never really strays from the path - which can be good, and bad.

Overall, the music seems to be caught between the whole NU-Metal/Modern Rock world and the Alternative Rock world, blending these styles together to form a well created album.
While its nothing you haven't really heard before, FTM do the known really, really really well!

Another Tomorrow Fills Up My Front Window.......2007-07-21

Every so often a band comes along that just completely blows your mind. Fair to Midland is one of those bands. Every song on Fables From a Mayfly is simply amazing. The lyrics are no less than pure poetry. The combination of lead vocalist Darroh Sudderth's throaty growling and amazing singing, along with the talents of each of the other band members (Cliff, John, Matt, and Brett) form what I can only describe as a work of art. The band revisit some of the songs from they're second album, inter.funda.stifle, and while they are the same, they are also different. Each of them sounds more refined and filled-out. "Dance of the Manatee," which is probably they're most well-known track, has been transformed into a pulverizing, yet strangely brilliant tune. The biggest surprise (and my favorite track) comes from the bands first album, The Carbon Copy Silver Lining. "A Wolf Descends Upon the Spanish Sahara" is fan-freakin-tastic. Every time I hear this song it sends chills up my spine. My recommendation: BUY THIS ALBUM. You won't regret it.

Fair to Midland's Dance of the Manatee ...........2007-07-19

Fair to Midland - Dance of the Manatee is a excellently crafted song. Singer Darroh Sudderth's voice is very powerful through out the song. His singing style is very unique and very catchy to anyones ear.
The whole album proves to be a wonderious treat to try. The lyrics and the music provides endless minutes of listening pleasure and the artwork on the album is strangly beautiful and reminds me of old circus style drawings and pictures.

I heard these guys on the radio not long before the album came out and I immediately loved it. I listen to a variety of rock, classic rock, metal, prog etc. and found it to be refreshing. It's one of those cds where you can listen to it all the whole way through. I highly recommend it.

repetitive.......2007-07-14

I saw them live when they opened for As I Lay Dying at the Chameleon in Lancaster. Everyone in the pit stopped moshing and held up the thumbs down singn so they could see it. All the vocals sound the same, and when he does his hardcore voice i can't help but laugh at his miserable attempts. Every chorus, verse, breakdown, and stupid keyboard thing sounds the same. Dance of the Manatee is their only good song, and even that song is pretty weak. They're awful live, and the producer of the album must have done so much tuning to their recordings to even get them to the unimpressive point they are at now. Don't buy this album.
